Hello there's a lot of coins out there to mine, but having an old equipment isn't good to start mining mate. It's good that you have a free electricity to run a mining but also you need some equipment to fully mine without any problem. I suggest you search for a good specs regarding mining. If you're focus is on profit, then a good mining rig should be also your priority.

You can mine btc and eth for start up but there are a lots of new coin to watch out as well. By the way, that pc is okay for mining but you need to monitor its speed and workability. Mining is not cheap of profiting, I suggest you invest on a good mining rig if you want to maximize youre earning on this kind of business. Youre lucky to have a free electricity for running a mining rig. If I were you, I will buy a good one to use in mining since profiting here needed a good equipment that can carry on the neded to mine.

Free electricity is indeed good for mining, but the problem is with the computer. Surely, you can mine a lot of coins. You can even mine BTC and ETH. But, starting to mine with an old computer is really not a good idea. However, you should the necessary specification and set those up to start mining.

I think, it s no point mining something on such an old hardware. It took months or even an year, before you can buy six-pack of beer on this profit.
And may be old computer just will broke, because of 24/7 work.

If i have a free electricity, i would search on ebay good 6-8 cards (1060/1070) nvidia rig for the cheap price: many people sell mining hardware on a bargain now.

You can’t even play any recently released video games with that pc build, and you won’t be able to mind with a card that old as well. I’m not even sure what PCIe version your motherboard supports, and whether or not you’ll be able to even put in a newer card on that PC to start mining. Either way, you’ll need to make a new build to mine, as your current setup is much too weak to do anything related to mining atm.

Probably you can do your bit for science and earn a bit of crypto along the way as well.

You might want to take a look at Gridcoin (https://www.gridcoin.us/). You will get rewarded for your contributed work with Gridcoins, and there are also many PCs with your configuration contributing computing power for science (https://boincstats.com/en/stats/-1/host/breakdown/cpu/0/0/1500).

Of course, you currently will not get rich mining GRC, but who knows what will happen in the future? Especially when the GRC community remains steadfast even in the face of very low profits. Because science! :)

Either CPU power and GPU cant really perform any mining and im also sure that even a simple operation of this personal computer
would already a struggle. How much more on tending to make use it on mining?

For now op, you wont have any choice but to find some capital to purchase up some good GPU since you do have the advantage of free electricity the mining
top coins as of now will really be not a bad idea. ROI is somehow faster since you dont have any deduction on your expense to the energy been consumed.

Free electricity can be very benificial for mining purpose and you could make a great profit because of that. But you need to upgrade your equipments to start minning. Get yourself some good equipments.

He just wants to try mining in practice and get some experience with mining.

So let him see how it works. Then he'll decide if it's worth it and what's next.

You can install NiceHash - I recommend legacy version - and see if it will work on your graphics card (and by the way NiceHash can also mine on cpu).

If it fails, you can try to mine something on cryptonight algo - for example xmr. Try ccminer.

I've got free electricity as well, if you believe in crypto build a respectful rig with a bunch of 1060 or 1070 and profit.

This video card has a total of 32 cores for multi-threaded CUDA calculations, so it is almost useless for mining. Apparently, you have an old processor, on which you can practically run some miners to study the process, but it is unlikely that you will earn something on such an old computer.

If you are already saving on electricity bills, I wouldn’t be saving on equipment, which is a core in mining. Build your own, or buy a good  plug’n’mine and get a good result. Otherwise, it is not worse it. The equipment, especially the cards outdate very quickly and  you need a good cooling system for stable mining, which will keep you your stable hashrates. Good luck!

That is right. The GPU is too old for mining. But the CPU could be used for mining XMR.
