Title: Woman Arrested for $450,000 Crypto Heist
Post by: prashadraj205000 on November 08, 2018, 03:49:00 AM
A 23-year-old woman was arrested by the police over the theft of $450,000 in ripple, the cryptocurrency. This incident took place in New South Wales, Australia.

The victim reached out to the investigators saying that his account had been hacked the month before. He said that his account was inaccessible for a couple of days back in January.

When the man checked his account after re-gaining access, he found that his cryptocurrency account was also compromised, leaving almost zero balance in the account.

People are really going all out with this crypto theft thing. First I heard a Turkish gang managed to steal crypto from people with sim swapping stuff, than Thai brothers stole from some Finnish investor, now I see some women stole a lot of crypto.

These are not good news for crypto in general because it both shows how much in danger crpto can be if not properly stored and you can lose a lot of money if you are not careful which makes people invest into traditional stuff like stocks because they are protected better or worst it shows that a lot of thieves are aiming towards stealing crypto because they believe in their minds if you steal crypto its less of a crime than stealing fiat currencies.

In any of those cases we need to increase security approach towards crypto and we need cops to keep on protecting people with crypto.

Yes its happening and people need to be more aware or conscious of security,
personally and with their wallets. I wonder about the guys security level that
he was done out of $450,000?

Anyway for those asking if there are women involved in crypto,
this case answers the question!!!

Can you link the actual news article? Crypto theft seems to be a hot thing lately, I guess that the majority is from phishing. Before long the Nigerian email spammers might transition to targeting crypto when they realize it will be a much better prospect than telling people their long lost Nigerian prince cousin has died and left them $1bn but they must first pay $1000 to access it  ;D

It just shows how careless people are in general, hence hacks and scams will always be around unfortunately. This is probably one of the reasons why bitcoin hasn't reached mass adoption yet, as securing a 12-24 word seed would be too much for your everyday person. Some people can't even memorize their social media passwords. It seems like every few weeks I always read an incident on Reddit whereas a person lost like half a million dollars worth of crypto because the person left all his funds on his exchange account and his/her account got hacked. People are careless.

I'm not really sure how they caught the woman unless victim knows her. Perhaps he trusted her at some point and when she got his trust and confidence, the woman slowly snoop at the unsuspecting victims cell phone that's why she was able to swept the mans account.

Again, this is a lessons for everyone not to blindly trust because you don't know who you dealing with. But we're glad that justice has been served and hope that the old man can get his money back through restitution.

Theft in crypto isn't limited to any gender it's become obvious. Seems to me like the accused is known to the owner of that wallet or may be not. But ultimately, I'm glad she's been apprehended and will face the full wrath of the law. Security has be taken more seriously by crypto enthusiasts. You are responsible for your own safety and that of your assets.

There are a lot of tech savvy females out there. The market might be dominated by men, but this is gradually changing. Back to the story, there are more funds stolen in FIAT daily that dwarfs losses in crypto. Crypto is generally safer.

When it comes money there is no gender, sad to say that we all need that money but not on that way, that girl is so greedy stolen account with crypto just to have a money. Well, the problem is the holder you must know how to protect your fund inside your wallet, if possible happen need to double lock your account you must do it because even who they are but when it comes financial it surely grabs even in a shady way.

Comparing out stolen FIAT and Crypto we would really able to see the difference but we know that crypto isn't really fully adopted
that's why its understandable on having that way. Generally, users do really have the full responsibility on take care of our
assets by means of security we should take it seriously on all precautionary measures. One single mistake can really mess up all the situation.

I wonder how that account was stolen or hacked so that it can be prevented as well as the platform of the account. I can also think that the account maybe was compromised by a former lover as revenge or gold digging lol. Maybe I'll just google the direct link to know more of the detail.

So yeah he should just marry his computer and phones and more likely he's just an easy guy that when a woman and flirt him he'll easily gave his private keys. Ok, I'm just joking. ;D

While the question is, did the real owner had his $450k back to him? I bet that woman already transferred it in a hardware wallet and swallow it.

The issue is that many people like to brag about their Crypto profits and don't realize that they are going to be a target.

Reminds me of the story where I bought one of my first Bitcoins a few years back. This was before Coinbase, Gemini, Bitfinex, etc. Basically all you had was some ads on Craigslist or Kijiji to buy/sell crypto. Even Bitcoin ATMs werent popular back then.

Met some person at a very public place, he seemed like a nice individual. However he basically carried over $50,000 worth of Crypto on his laptop when he sent me the coins. He didn't even have a password set on his Bitcoin Core wallet.

I told him to becareful in the future because its alot of money and you might become a target. He said he is not worried since we are meeting in a public place. I told him, you still need to becareful because people can follow you home.

No idea what happened to him. Basically stopped using P2P since then and just mined the coins.

My first thoughts exactly when I read that. A 56 year old man and a 23 year old woman, hmm... Sounds like someone was probably thinking too much with something other than their brain and paid the price. As bad as it sounds, I think both are at fault, the woman for taking advantage and the man (if is the case) for being so gullible.

That is freaking huge amount of money and no way im gonna forget how to access my wallet because of that. It is really impossible for a person to inaccess with that kind of wallet after having a lot of money stored in there unless you are such a wealthy person that $450,000 is just a spare coins for you but that is not the case. Each and every holder must be responsible in order to keep his asset intact.

Exactly, so obviously the man has been targeted by the criminals for quite some time and slowly building his case until the man let down his guard because the women already got his trust. And its really hard to catch these type of person/s, maybe she was just tempted or something because of the huge amount involved. Although its a happy ending, but the man has to endured it and has to go to trial in order to get it back, that is if the woman has still the bulk of the money but I doubt it.

The same scenario is repeated many times I suppose. This is not the first time I heard a rich guy fall for a (supposably) beautiful and attractive woman. Probably a rich woman can fall for an attractive guy too, just the classic sexual attraction thing. Still, $450k was a huge amount. If I had that money, I'd probably save it for myself and never tell anyone I have that.

Some people will do anything, and is still bad that we have people who only think to steal and steal others people money. Bad that society is like this, at this times. I hope in future things like this not happen anymore.  At least was the money recovered or they were already spent and was nothing recovered?

I guess that it's just human nature to think that you're the exception to the rule, people often are blinded and believe that it's true love in their case and that it's different to all of the other stories they've heard of elsewhere. But similarly I would do the same, age difference or not, any decent fortune I had would be kept secret until I could truly trust someone. Even then it would be on a need to know basis.

That's good news, thieves can be caught too, even though it's very difficult to catch hackers. We must be more careful in maintaining our account. Use a second password like Google Authenticator. This can be a lesson for bitcoiners.
I was actually surprised the person was caught and this simply shows this person is probably just learning and was not able to cover her tracks well which I know a lot of hackers are always fond of doing. Nonetheless, it is a good thing this lady was caught and hopefully will end up facing justice. Still, this does not change the fact that people need to always take security seriously, like their life depends on it actually. At this day and age, it is always absurd to see people still making use of abc123 as their password, and that makes me wonder, the world some people are still living in.

When the man checked his account after re-gaining access, he found that his cryptocurrency account was also compromised, leaving almost zero balance in the account.
At this stage, people really need to take security extremely seriously when it comes to cryptocurrency activities, knowing for a fact that there are so many people who are trying to reap where they never sowed and they are ready to wipe it all out. It is even a good thing that the culprit was found and arrested, and in this case, this must have been a learner. Sometimes for most hackers, you will really not even be able to get a chance at all to know who is behind the curtain, let alone get your money back or get the culprit arrested.

Kudos to the security agents who were able to affect the arrest after a quality investigation. Good luck to the victim at least the money will be recovered or part of it. During the investigations, the loophole on how the thief manages to get access to the account will be ascertained and blocked against future occurrence.

450,000$ was a big amount of money here in my country that is equivalent of 23, 850,000M in our currency. This is actually my first time to heard in the news where the police captured or traced where the hacker is, and take note the hacker was too young lady. I wish that all hackers in crypto currency will be trace and catch by the police also.

This is a very strange case, the guy was 56 years old and had not kept his coins in the wallet? when they say:

Jezz, what's with these people stealing cryptocurrency from the other? People should do keep safe their belonging specially the cryptocurrency because it's so special and it's just like your own money or a credit card. We should keep our own private keys and passwords to a secure places and also the news is a bit blurry, i think they missed something in that news.

This is really serious as the amount involved is really huge.  $450,000 is not a small money to an average person and thank God she was cut. Hacking has been happening before the advent of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology but the enemies of cryptocurrencies are going to just pick this and started to promote how insecure cryptocurrencies is.  I believe that those hackers are going to remain with us either we are using fiat or cryptcoin.

Not even our own money or credit card would really be safe or neither both ways when the time comes that a certain man would really be boastful to his possession.
This is why there are really instances of getting robbed because of such behavior. Even how much money we do have we do still need to be on low key not to make our money
safe but also to protect ourself from any possible harm.

I wouldn't think that this is uncommon, we have  a problem with people not keeping their coins and their private keys in the safest place and reading the story I think the man and the woman might have had an intimate relationship and he probably gave her the access to the account thinking that he could trust her. This just goes to show how much we should guard our coins
