The worst bear since 2018. currently the top two major altcoins XRP and eth are struggling out for the second place. Ethereum fell over to 170 usd while XRP has fallen to 0.4363. a cooling ICO market has also gone down the line as the amount raised via coin offerings plummeted to a $63.2 million in October. this is the lowest since March 2017 just before the token boom began, according to ICOData.io.
As the war for the second place continues,it is clear that XRP is taking the position. How long do we expect to see such position happening?

About on the fighting of top 2 spot on the entire market between XRP and ETH I'm not really excited nor interested at all.They can do whatever it takes but my sympathy would still go

It's not battle. I think Ethereum will on the second place. Ripple isn't good enough to take place near bitcoin. I think you will agree with me.

XRP has always been a short time. This time the 2nd level adventure knows much longer.

I think that way ETH was jumped from 2nd to 3rd place due to the ICO there are so many icos was under eth platform they get a big amount of eth for those icos and now they are selling the big amount of eth, it has happened before also but eth come back to the same place but this time we have to wait some more time to get eth again 2nd place.

Its really a tough choice to select, but I think ETH is still king. Xrp was a short time profit coin and the foundation says more about that. But on the long run xrp can prove me wrong. But I still  believe its ETH that will always win this battle cos of its function & concept.

I agree with you, Ethereum is the 2nd most used cryptocurrency after bitcoin.  XRP is usually just used for quick pump & dumps.  Also most crypto users won't support XRP because it is a centralized currency.  I own zero ripple myself but I do own BTC and ETH.  Thats not to say you won't make a profit from buying ripple but I think ethereum will perform better over the long term.

Although I hate fake cryptocurrencies, such as XRP. But Ethereum is not a competitor to XRP. You need to know that there is bank support behind XRP. He is a cryptocurrency developed by a bank. So Ethereum is not a competitor to XRP.

Hard to say who will stay on top but it looks like XRP is staying as the top coin for good. My opinion as always does not change, I think Ripple garbage on the market, and the fact that Ethereum fell to the third position is just a matter of time and it will again be in its rightful second place !

I think that second spot for ripple won't be sustained because etheruem moves with the fluctuation of bitcoin price. So as soon as the bitcoin price recovery takes place, etheruem goes back to number two spot.

if it is judged in terms of XRP profits more potential because the price of coins is cheaper so multiples of coin prices can multiply, but seen in terms of the advantages of ETH more promising in the future with smart contract technology, MEW is widely used by project teams for temporary storage of their tokens.

If you based it on this year's performance, I believe that XRP has an advantage between the two. Also, if we base on how profitable a coin, XRP is on the top between thwle two However, I still think that Ethereum is more profitable in the long run as smart contract will increase its demand in the future. It's not a battle. Even if ETH isn't in the #2 spot, it's still the most-accepted, most trusted, and biggest altcoin in the market. XRP ocupying that spot only means that they have bigger market cap and they're pumping the hell out of it right now. That's not exactly what you want to see since growth should be organical, and this current pump doesn't look like it. This looks like it's only temporary though, and I think once the market recovers, ETH will take back the #2 spot.

Ripple has overtaken Ethereum for the second spot in the market. This might be the result of the continuing partnership of Ripple on several financial institutions as well as some banking systems. LOL 95% of people can only see what's happening TODAY.  The battle isn't for second place.  If you did your research and looked at usability its only a matter of time before XRP is not only #1 based on market cap (which is a terrible way to valuate digital assets) but #1 for trading.  Smaller exchanges starting up now are listing XRP as a base pair.  Its 1000x faster and 1000x cheaper to transact than BTC.  BTC can't scale.  This was evident during the december run when a BTC transaction would take 7 hours and cost $30+.  Its ridiculous... zoom out and look at the big picture people.  XRP has become more decentralized than BTC and ETH throughout 2018 and continues on this path with new recommended UNL's.  Oh and for everyone out there saying that XCurrent customers will never touch XRP, LOL have a close look at XCurrent v4.0 and its new features along with "multi-hop" and the functionality around this.  Research Temenos, SAP, SBI, etc...Game over folks, move your money into XRP and park it there for 4-5 years.  Its not too late...

XRP does have a unique system for the future, it's worth the XRP dominating the second place at the moment, but in my opinion it won't last long, because all altcoins lean on Ethereum, obviously Ethereum will rise again but I don't know when that will happen

XRP has a high increase of around 7.46% and able to shift the ETH position in second place. I think this is the best achievement of XRP and the decline in investor confidence in ETH with  which is a lot of scam ICO's.

XRP is growing faster than ETH these days as a centralised coin it is widening it's popularity and building it's reputation very fastly. This is not the first time XRP takes the 2nd rank from ETH but I think XRP can't keep it for so long. It'll be the same as before, XRP will only keep 2nd rank for few days or maybe a week then ETH will rise back and take 2nd place back which should belong to ETH, the best altcoin.

It really is a surprise that XRP stayed in the second place for over 3 days now i believed and as of today, it leads over $200,000,000 in marketcap vs ethereum. It looks like most investors are placing their bets to XRP because of Vitalik statements these past few weeks that may leave a negative impact to ETH. Based on what I observed, XRP also was the fast gainers among top 5 coins so the big break for XRP to take over the second place might take a while or maybe permanently.

If we are fixated on the coinmarketcap, of course XRP must be in second place for crypto currencies. As you say for popularity, of course the ethereum platform is often used for ICO. But if people see that of course we cannot do anything, XRP is the second place that is now very much in demand.

You do not understand one simple thing. Buterin is not interested in any war. He does not care where Ethereum is. He is a fanatic of his business. He is a fanatic of technology. It's been very interesting since the past few months.The battle XRP and ETH started.by the end of this year i noticed that ETH was short of breath and slower than XRP. XRP was behind Bitcoin on the coinmarketcap. And this war will continue for a long time.

XRP has been in the news recently for some great news. But as it has always been, that good news has little effect on the price. ETH on the other hand has consistently competed with Bitcoin and is pushing for a major update soon. This I believe will far eclipse XRP.

I agree with you, this xrp is steady chasing that second place and I don't think that xrp can sustain that rank as what we know Ethereum has all the support with the adoption of their smart contact.

You will not see any war by the next year, price manipulation made XRP to gain some points. ETH is a strong and powerful competitor in the market and have a large crypto community followers, I agree XRP surpassed 2 or 3 times this year in upcoming days eth will regain its position and it will dominate the altcoins.

Ripple have indeed made something surprising this year for surpassing ethereum as the 2nd topmost crypto despite of the negativity which is dominant at this moment. But still, I do believe that ethereum is a better crypto than ripple and will remain to be the 2nd best for a long run due to its large number of community which would be its biggest advantage for long term development in the market.

They are close to each other even before the XRP took the 2nd place spot from Eth in terms of the market cap so a big pump will help a specific crypto from their close call battle for the spot, Eth got tons of burden from ICO's lately I can tell from the projects that I've participated in the struggle to raise funds and the sudden dump from exchange when the tokens got listed, wait for the price recovery and it will reveal the true 2nd spot.

Some ICO's are still shorting Eth to get some money back from the ICO campaigns. That doesn't help either

There is no battle. BTC works as store of value. ETH works as a smart contract platform. XRP claims that it will one day be used for interbank transfers. They do not compete with each other any more than Google, Apple and Amazon do. People who believe that their will one day be a single coin that dominates all niches are deluded, and if it was ever to come about it would be something other than any of these coins. 

On one hand you have ethereum which is used in companies to make softwares based on its platform, used by games to be played on their platform, used by ICO's to be published on their platform and many other stuff that has been done on their platform for the longest time.

On the other hand you have a company that vaguely represents the coin in the loosest terms. There is no battle between ETH and XRP in reality, there is just a battle between ETH fans and XRP fans. XRP wasn't like this for the longest time, it only came to light when everything else fell but XRP didn't drop as much as some of the other coins and increased in value time to time because of its owners.

When the bull comes you will see the real difference both of them because bull will make ETH worth a lot again whereas the owners of XRP can't afford to spike the price that much during a bull compared to a bear market.

It is foolish to think about the confrontation of these two coins. They have completely different tasks in the cryptocurrency economy. The fact that now they have changed places does not mean anything. At any time ETH can take its position again. Just over the strong influence of Bitcoin.

According to me, Ethereum will surely beat ripple. Ethereum is way more popular than ripple. This popularity is the reason why Many investors love to invest in Ethereum instead of ripple. Another reason people consider ethereum to be better is the strong development team of ethereum.

I think there is not any battle going on between ripple and ethereum. It is just about their performance. Both coins have their different features and have been established for different purposes. The simple answer is one good coin will outperform.

I do not exclude that XRP, will be promoted by institutional investors, I think the whole point is that Ripple can be controlled it is not decentralized, like BTC.

Although XRP's price is really low but this is not the first time it become the winner for 2nd place on CMC but I think it'll be the same as before that XRP can't hold this rank for so long. The battle between these projects did not even exist. These are conceptually different projects and the fact that one has approached the other in terms of capitalization means nothing.

Xrp will definitely fall and eth will claim it's position again. Eth have more potential than xrp but who knows on what will happen. Maybe xrp will strengthen it's ground or it will just stay the same like it was used to.

XRP can take the position for as long as it wants but we all know that when Ethereum bounce back, XRP will be back to where it was before. XRP can dethrone ETH but only on the time when it was at its lowest. It came into another break with ethereum and replacing it with XRP is just an indication that this coin were certainly moving and growing. I see this as not a real deal as every coin has their respective way of working and each use case determine what will be the outcome of the coin, I see eth as one great coin like wise xrp as both work differently but most people prefer less tx fee coin which I think both are very low in terms of fee compare to btc and for this reason are both good and I don't look at the capital market funds but use case.

Lol this is no longer an issue here, Ripple (XRP) has already taken the second position from Ethereum as it stands with a market cap of $20 billion while ETH staggers at $18 billion. XRP seems to be the only altcoin that has been making progress despite what has been happening in the market; Bitcoin dropping down below $100 billion and other falling heavily. I’ve always believed in XRP that’s why I never bothered to sell mine. Just waiting for the bull before I sell.

Currently XRP win the battle from ethereum. As ethereum is continuously dropping on the other hand XRP stands firm in the bear market. I see only XRP seems to me the strongest coin in the current bear market and if we see the difference of ethereum and XRP total market cap we can easily say XRP is quite  ahead to the ethereum. I see difference of total market cap between both is increased. I can say according to the current market situation XRP will continue to ahead of ethereum in coming days as well.

It will still be this situation, as no one knows what's going on with the market and what cryptocurrency to buy for storage, will now sell all, and buy no one, because everyone is afraid to make the wrong choice. In the long term I believe in Etherium much more.

XRP will remain the second coin after bitcoin, even though their market cap always alternates with ETH, XRP gets support from centralized parties, which of course makes it easier for this coin to grow quickly.

XRP against other top coins pleasantly surprises.In the market that we see now-Ethereum looks very weak compared to xrp. I think in the long term xrp can be firmly fixed as the second coin after the bitcoin.

ETH in second position has been surpassed by XRP. It will be very difficult for ETH to recapture second of its position. XRP has been very strong during this period. Maybe we will never see ETH in second  position again.

Ethereum is the king of altcoin I think it has great potential and good technology though it has lost its place to Ripple no matter ETH will be the 2nd place very soon. ETH has much popularity than Ripple we know Ripple is controlled by the massive bank. Whatever it is I do not consider it as a battle but just a normal attitude of the crypto market.

XRP is very promising now, it stands firm above ethereum for days and the chance for ethereum to retake its 2nd position is zero. With this, i buy more XRP for holding, XRP at $5 in 2019 is possible, believe me guys, buy XRP.

In terms of market cap xrp already defeated ETH but with potential supporters I still see ETH have a lots of investors and traders interest, as it was already been proven before, this project are suffering and it's not alone because every crypto also suffering the same fate together with bitcoin, future will still be for ETH to be next with bitcoin.

The current situation is showed that the market cap of XRP is higher than ETH. That makes me change my mind when deciding to invest. And I think in the future, the XRP will have strong potential growth. And the exchange rate will reach higher in the following year.

I don’t think so. XRP has been progressing ever since it was released  going from the least position to and taking the third position from Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and now it has taken the second position from Ethereum. I’m sorry to say this, but ETH is just turning to a big failure and keeps falling, I just hope this next bull run helps it out. But still that doesn’t mean it is going to take that second position from Ripple. Let’s just watch and see.

Ethereum has a strong second place at the crypto market. I wouldn't even compare ethereum to ripple. Ripple is not such  long time at the market. To me bitcoin, ethereum, and ripple are like three different generations of digital coins.

yes indeed Ethereum has a higher decline than other altcoins. I think XRP can replace ETH in the future if Ethereum continues to experience no progress. many problems that occur on Ethereum when the exchange has a problem and is too long.

the second battle between the coin lasts long enough. This is demonstrated through the development of competing to become the most winning coins triggers scramble for position dropped to one another. So the second of these coins should fall. and finally a ripple capable of dropping the Ethereum with rapidly increasing development.

I will like to say that there is no battle here,.ripple only passed ethereum on coinmarketcap is just for the moment, ethereum is down because of bitcoin as soon as market begin to recovers, ethereum will take it's rightful place!

While XRP is havig a romance with government and making itself look better in the eyes of government and government businesses, ETH remains a cryptocurrency with the ideologies of the founders of crypto! that is why XRP keeps displacing ETH even in Market cap! the growth of ripple is been made possible by the romance it has kept opened since last year! ETH is also suffering constant dumps from ICOs that are cashing out because of immediate need of funds for project execution; atleast for the genuiune once!

Obviously you are right mate that Etherium will reach 2nd position again very shortly. We just need to be patient. Hopefully within next one month market will recover and etherium price will increase.

The war does not need to be carried out. Therefore, it is well known that the most vulnerable period of Ethereum may return to below $100, while XRP is focused on concentration hype. However, last year XRP was just a brother of ETH. This year, Ethereum has been surpassed.

Ethereum and xrp have different ways of development.In these market conditions, xrp feels more confident because of its integration, for the most part, into the traditional banking sector.It may not give the xrp to find the bottom.

It is a very interesting season to watch all these happen, these battle has been an aged long one, xrp has replaced eth to stay at no 2 a number of times but they are usually short lived. I am expecting we will have an etherium that will pump soon to take over its position.

It already been a while, we saw the battle to take the 2nd place between Ethereum and Ripple, It was ehtereum that has sit on 2nd place for a long time, but now ethereum already been dropping on its marketcap and being taken over by Ripple.
And what i can see the gap between those to is getting wider over the time.

The competition that has its own tricks for each team, this makes the holders more concentrated on the coins held, the XRP gap is good enough to go through and ETH feels negligent with its position, but both of them still maintain their loyalty.

and eth has lost this fight, the eth days have dropped deeper. I think we can monitor on the marketcap. and the difference is big enough for eth to chase back
and I think the market will not be bullrun by the end of this year.

It seems to me not less than a year, it is important that after the stabilization of the market it remains fixed to its position, nothing prevents it, so I think everything will be fine with the coin, but I would not make predictions for more than a year.
