Title: Old user ID account taken over
Post by: BTCCharlotte on December 05, 2018, 11:48:29 PM
Any way to get a mod to send me a private message? I tried to log into my old account and found it was taken over. Looks like they changed the email address and passcode.   Email address on this account is the same as it was on my old account. Would love to get it back if possible.

Thanks

Go to Meta (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0) and follow this Recovering hacked accounts or accounts with lost passwords (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0). Can you let us know what is your original account?, so that a DT member can reg tag it as being hacked.

As @Kemarit states, it is better to handle this on Meta. Besides the referenced thread, you way want to take a look at @sncc’s guide on the matter of account security (see  [Guide] Bitcointalk account security (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4920096.msg44294262#msg44294262)). As you’ll see, in practice, you’ll find that the account recovery process is currently very slow (months on end), and only a bunch of recovered accounts are accounted for over the past months.

The opportunity would have to provide substantial evidence to convince DTs that the account truly belongs to him/her. That's assuming the address associated with the account was signed in the appropriate thread.
