Title: [Mining OS] openrig.net/oros easy-to-use Nvidia Mining Management
Post by: fullzero on January 16, 2019, 04:03:01 PM
Fellow miners,

this is the build I use with my Nvidia rigs.

Openrig.net/oros makes it easy to configure, edit, and monitor rigs from your pc, tablet, or smartphone.

https://openrig.net (https://openrig.net)

Why you should try openrig.net/oros:

Email/telegram alerts for all rig events.

Both openrig.net and oros are extremely secure.

Oros has effectively zero writes with all scripts, configurations, and clients pulled as needed from openrig.net and stored in ram on oros.

Oros will self heal from almost any problem.

Currently has a 0.05% fee; which may be reduced.

Requires:

     Nvidia GPUs

16 gb or larger USB key

You are a resident of the United States.

Example rig:

$770.57 Starter Rig; $1650.53 Example Rig (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5141032.0)

Mining tools:

     mining electric cost calculator (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5131831.0)

Note oros works without issue with 1660s or 1660ti's; no driver issues.

Here is a table comparing a 1660 and a 1660ti:

https://i.imgur.com/8AM6xce.png

All rigs will download the newest scripts on boot.

If your rigs are currently running:

To update your watchdog to support new mining clients, use the: reclient button in Rig List.

It will stop the watchdog, download the newest version, then restart it and the mining process.

Current client list:

Please let me know what you think I should change, improve or add.

While developing this, I also made a large number of tools. I ended up not including most of these to make the interface simpler, or because I decided users were unlikely to actually use the tool.

It would be good if I got access - that would be a good start ;) ...

The email has not arrived for verification and I cannot login to see. This could be a block from my end, your end, or the ISP end. But unless I get this email, I cannot login and check anything mate. I trust your history, especially with nvOC, but this archaic email verification system gives me issues with some websites which block either my email address (no - I won't change it), or my ISP blocks the relay your email is coming from. I have checked the latter and no email has been sent thus far.

Would be nice to see what you have created here mate.

As for the tools - easy fix. Create a 'simple' and 'advanced' menu system. People can choose what they want to use. No/basic tools or all/advanced tools ;)

If its zipped on windows some times I've seen it gives error on ubuntu,

I tested with Ubuntu 18.04 last night and didn't have a problem.

I used the Extract from the right click menu.

From terminal: unzip PATH also worked.

I imaged using the Ubuntu Disks application.

I did find a problem on macOS using its built in extraction.  I would guess it is similar to the problem you are having.

To extract on macOS I had to open terminal and use:

unzip PATH

The easy way to get the PATH is to simply drag the file from the GUI to the terminal.

However the Etcher imaging application can image from the zip which is convenient, and also means that on macOS, or Windows or Linux if using Etcher you don't need to extract.

What version of Ubuntu are you using?

My daily driver OS is Ubuntu 18.04

CRC check was ok

So I managed to extract the zip on windows 10

Common issue when zipped in Windows and attempt to extract in Linux.

Will flash, test and report back A.S.A.P.

It is a OS on USB, Updated Ubuntu 16.04 with Cuda 8 and 9.2.  A series of bash scripts control interaction with openrig.net via its api.

All data is pulled from the cloud which allows the elimination of almost all writes to the USB key.

Rig data can be accessed using a users credentials via api. Only a few items, such as hashrate (those items a rig needs to change/push back) can be modified with user credentials.  However, all rig data can be modified on openrig.net.

This means that technically any OS can support using openrig.net.

Together openrig.net and oros essentially operate as a push pull IaC.

Once every 24 hours, for 864 seconds: each rig will change its pool and address to mine.  Power limit and OC settings will not be changed.  If email updates are enabled or telegram is configured, a notification will be set at the beginning and end of the dev fee.

After considering different payment options; this was the best choice.  It's minimally obtrusive to users mining and makes openrig.net/oros simpler to use.

I am constantly improving openrig.net/oros and am open to suggestions and requested features.  I am most interested in how users actually want to configure rigs/groups.  Is a mining client based configuration model (smos uses) closer to what users want than the coin based configuration model (nvOC uses)?  Or is a mixed model better?

The next version will have effectively zero writes with all scripts, configurations, and clients pulled as needed from openrig.net and stored in ram on oros.  This eliminates the need for updates other than those for drivers/cuda and drastically reduces the possibility of the storage device corrupting with a sudden power off.  It also allows very slow USB keys to operate effectively.

Update:

Openrig client mode expanded.

oros Version 1.4:

Note v1.4 is download only; you cannot update to v1.4.

Note 0rig has changed; you will need to redownload your 0rig files if you have them stored.

Initial setup will now only reboot once.

Updated driver to 415.27.

Updates are now automatic.

v1.4 has effectively zero writes with all scripts, configurations, and clients pulled as needed from openrig.net and stored in ram on oros.

This eliminates the need for updates other than those for drivers/cuda.

It also drastically reduces the possibility of the storage device corrupting with a sudden power off.

Openrig.net has Changed its Terms of Service:

Service now requires US residence.

Until otherwise stated, service will only be provided to US residents.

All non-US resident accounts will no longer be able to access their dashboard on openrig.net.

If you have operated Rigs in the last week; your user info, including Rig endpoints (Rigs will continue to work with their current settings), will remain active until April 20th.

If you have not operated Rigs in the last week your account and all related data has been deleted.

On April 20th, all non-US resident accounts and all related data will be deleted.

Ensure that you have modified all scripts to execute locally or else use a different control method or OS by then.

I am not sure a centralized service is best for worldwide use.  While there are significant benefits to a centralized service, there is an unavoidable amount of overhead.  This overhead must be covered somehow, and charging a fee is necessary if fast and secure service is to be provided.  In my observations, most users rarely tend to change their settings.  In this case, paying for a management service is really: paying for the ability to easily change configurations and ensure they are stable.  Thus, it makes the most sense for hosting providers or miners with 10+ Rigs.  However, in this case I believe it makes more sense to have a single computer onsite running a management process.  This process could interact with a centralized or distributed service, to backup or recover data if it is lost locally; or it could simply store its data in a directory that is uploaded to cloud storage.

So ...

Here in Australia would be useless to use the service now?

For now, yes.  I will work on making something that doesn't require overhead.

Well ...

If there is something we could help with, let me know mate. We have resources and developers on hands that IF can fit any areas in production, will help where we can. Otherwise I wish you all good tidings, and hope to see this back on track soon enough on a global level. Unfortunately in such a system, centralization (unless designed around blockchain itself) will be prevalent which ever way you look at it.

I'll await any ideas you may have.

Thanks for the offer.  Perhaps in the future.  Exploring possibilities.

Hello
I'm sending this message with google translate.
When the ubuntu is switched on, I can operate the terminal automatically.
but when sudo is given the command prompts me for the password.
How can I prevent the password from prompting?
I want the sudo command to run without asking for the password.
As is the NVOC.
how can I do that.

Ubuntu 18.04

I am not sure what user you are trying to use without a password.

I am assuming you are using the nvOC Community Edition.

I haven't used the newest version of the Community Edition, but these steps should work with any Ubuntu version.

how to rm the need for a password in linux

note: replace <username> with your username.  For example if my chosen username was m2: sudo adduser m2

make your user using
Code:
sudo adduser <username>
in a terminal

give the user a password using
Code:
sudo passwd <username>
in a terminal, enter new password twice

switch user to the new user using
Code:
su <username>

enter
Code:
sudo nano /etc/sudoers
in a terminal

add
Code:
<username> ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD:ALL
to the bottom of the page

Press ctrl + x

Press enter to confirm editing of: /etc/sudoers
