Title: Will Bitcoin collapse by a global government crackdown?
Post by: Abiky on January 23, 2019, 10:25:16 PM
With all the buzz lately of governments cracking down on cryptocurrencies, there has been fear among people with regards to Bitcoin and altcoins. This is one of the many reasons why 2018 experienced a sharp decline in the value of the whole crypto market, leaving many wonder the outcome of a complete government crackdown towards Bitcoin and other cryptos in the future.

As such, what do you think will happen with Bitcoin if all the governments of the world ban it? Will it collapse after the massive crackdown on every single cryptocurrency? Or will it survive? AFAIK, Bitcoin is largely dependent on nodes distributed geographically. The Internet is controlled by ISPs which are subject to government demands. If a global government crackdown happens, then the growth of Bitcoin and other cryptos might stale for sure.

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? ???

Whenever I think of something that was banned, it's Illegal Drugs. I think this is a great subject to compare since some countries are in it with the ban with drugs and cryptocurrency. As a result, there would be a scarcity of Bitcoin supporters on those countries that banned. Generalizing, I think the price could go up on those areas because it would be harder to get. But the problem is, people would be scared to use it. If all the government, together, made a way to ban Bitcoin, there will be no one to support it anymore. Hence, no more Bitcoin.

So it can only go two ways, rise in price in usage, or go away forever. I don't think the latter would stick though.

The Internet is controlled by ISPs which are subject to government demands.

We can simply use an encrypted internet connection to connect the node. Use something like dnscrypt for example, and you can connect again with other nodes. I'm not really sure the government wants to ban Bitcoin (blocking their connection) because it's just a waste of resource. They might try to shut down any cryptocurrency exchange though so that people won't be able to cash out. But we can still trade offline, or use something like Bisq.

I don't think government crackdown will happen, but if it does, I believe we can find a solution for that.

they're cracking down on services, exchanges, and fundraisers who were flouting existing regulations. for example, ICO issuers selling securities to USA investors without SEC registration. or 1broker allowing USA residents to trade CFD instruments without AML/KYC or SEC/CFTC registration.

i wouldn't say they're cracking down on cryptocurrencies. outside of china and a few small countries like algeria, governments have been surprisingly receptive towards the crypto economy. most governments seem to want to integrate and regulate, rather than prohibit, crypto.

What Global crackdown?

Most governments already accepted Bitcoin either as a currency <Japan> or a commodity <rest of the world>  8) In any way, if governments decides to "ban" Crypto currencies, people will just go underground with it. <Trading on the Darknet and on Black markets>

They cannot stop the Bitcoin network, because it is decentralized and nodes are spread all over the world. <Similar to how torrent networks are unstoppable at the moment.>  ;D

It would survive. And at this point it is very unlikely that ALL countries would ban it. If anything, its the minority of oppressive regimes that do. But still, bitcoin was designed to resist this from the start. Sure hashrate and price would fluctuate, but it would find its place and things would continue as usual: 1 block every 10 minutes.

If it became draconian, perhaps more/better obfuscation would be needed (like the Tor project). I'm sure the developer's community would respond to the challenge and go around any censorship.

Depends on what you mean by "collapse"; and this is assuming that the governments would actually totally ban it, which I think it's a bit unlikely. Will it drop in price if ever majority of the world governments would ban it? I surely bet it would, mainly due to the panic selling from the people. But would it die? Hell no. If bitcoin were to really die someday, I really doubt that the reason would be due to a worldwide government ban.

Also, I don't think a "crackdown" necessarily mean a ban. It could just mean tighter/stricter regulations.

On the issue of regulations, my believe is the government intentions are not real as they intend to have a total control over the world of cryptocurrencies were by taken sole aim of tracking/cracking down individuals with huge amount of BTC in their wallet. Government will give rigid  and strict regulations on cryptos in order to be in charge, so, Bitcoin regulation will bring freedom to crypto-industry but crack down on HOLDERS. Bitcoin will collapse by a global Government crackdown.

I think Bitcoin now is too big to ban, but it will come under regulations when it is being used and traded as currency and also as an asset or investment instrument. I think some regulation is needed and some protection for the investors and consumers is good because it means more and more mainstream people will come and have a look at what Bitcoin has to offer. As for the price, it is being suppressed by the whales and big shots, we all know this how markets work. I wish I had known it through last January, then I would not be in the predicament I am in right now. I hope a miracle happens and the tide turns for the better and we see Bitcoin and Altcoins rise again like they did at the end of 2017 but I think we are in for a long Bitcoin bear winter.

With all the buzz lately of governments cracking down on cryptocurrencies,
90% of this "buzz" has been FUD from people trying to scare newbies into selling their bitcoins so that they could buy it cheaper.

Quote
there has been fear among people with regards to Bitcoin and altcoins.
if someone has a fear about a decentralized currency such as bitcoin when it comes to government and their "crackdown" then they didn't understand what decentralized means. they need to go back and renew their basic knowledge which they skipped when they were starting with bitcoin.

same thing that has happened whenever some government in a couple of countries have banned bitcoin= an initial drama with a small dip then back to normal again.

Too far if we think that all governments will ban cryptocurrency because the development of bitcoin and altcoin is too large so that it is difficult to prohibit. For example, we can hear that there are some countries that have banned the use of bitcoin but people in that country still can use bitcoin. The right solution at this time is the government provides regulations for the use of bitcoin so that bitcoin can be much more controlled in its use.

Why would they want to crackdown on crypto when they are and could
earn revenue by taxation? Most countries at the moment treat crypto
the same as any other commodities or shares they get taxes when
it goes back to FIAT.

First of all it is impossible for states to go to such a ban. How far can you prohibit something that is decentralized and done via a computer?

I think we should focus on solving the energy problem and scalability instead of thinking about such situations.

The government does have an important role in the development of the crypto world. It can even be stated that when the government makes a decision, this will directly affect the price of crypto. A negative decision will certainly produce a negative thing and when the government makes a supportive decision it will make a positive development towards the direction of crypto development.

OP, what it might become is find its own niche among enthusiasts, criminals, and money launderers just like what Bittorrent has become in the age of Netflix. It will be like 2011 again, and from there it can grow one more time. It's an "unscratchable itch". 8)

I believe some people overestimate what the government can do, and underestimate what Bitcoin can achieve.

I don't think that Bitcoin will collapse when there is global Government crackdown of cryptocurrencies as the idea of bitcoins came into existence when there was a global financial breakdown, infact Bitcoins has helped the early investors to be millionaires which means Bitcoins has the potential to bring the world out from the financial breakdown and it is common in all the financial markets for rise and fall in the markets, likewise there are more chances for the global  Governments to accept and adopt bitcoins and blockchain technology.

I'm not sure all the countries in the world are united to crush bitcoin, but what I believe is they are making rumors in the media to weaken the temporary bitcoin so that they can set it in their rules and when they are under surveillance, they will lift up to get the advantage of bitcoin, this is very easy for the government because the media is in their hands

Crackdown means every branch of bitcoin, from individual users to large, registered services are being hunted. There aren't any of those happening, so idk how would that be an issue for bitcoin, especially on the collapse that you're referring to. If anything, regulators and governments are pushing for the legislative bodies to create a regulatory framework to which bitcoin and crypto would fall under, greatly enhancing the protection for citizzens who are using the said currencies.

But I don't think it's possible for every country in the world to come together and collectively place a ban on bitcoin

Yes, crackdowns from governments all over the world will make crypto and bitcoin worlds collapse but as you said, this situation is not possible when there are still some governments supporting bitcoin, some governments are always neutral in this event, and when governments are not interlinked, the collapse will not come. In addition, bitcoin and crypto still offer certain benefits to the economy, even useful about technological improvements, and with these values, it can also explain why bitcoin does not collapse, governments do not really want to crackdown it

Well ,I think they will eventually control this things , not ban them totally. It is just matter of time.

Ban by all governments can destroy the price. How do you think mining will be done? So much electrical current will certainly attract attention.  In my opinion if the governments wanted to ban, they would. I hope they realize that digital money system is more innovative and useful, and they have been expecting the right time.

The latest buzz that hanging around and affecting in cryptocurrencies communities in wholesome indicates that Cryptocurrency, in general, isn't matured yet technically, and in term of user knowledge.

Personally, It might sound contradicted with my first statement but it actually isn't. The reason Bitcoin could survive until today and beyond is because the community has a pillar. A foundation of awareness that Bitcoin has a potential to free us from a financial matrix. furthermore, the underlying technologies of BItcoin that support it.

It is indeed governments has an immense effect on the whole world ISP regulations, but the only way to shut down completely BItcoin is to erase Internet from the whole world and burn all the storage that contain Bitcoin blockchain.

This topic has been brought up many times, even since Bitcoin's inception, so if you're interested in this topic, you can dig up a lot of discussions and articles. Basically, Bitcoin was created to be indestructible, you'd need to erase it from all the computers in the world that run it, which means millions of machines across the globe. But global government crackdown would have a significant negative impact on Bitcoin, it would be hard to organize large-scale mining, liquidity will be low, etc. Bitcoin will become a very niche tool in this scenario, instead of an alternative global currency.

yes, if we are really smart, crypto must stay away from politics which always has something to do with the local government because I'm sure they must have refused from the start. I have heard a lot about a country that will give a crackdown on someone who uses bitcoin like India which can be categorized as a criminal act, but it only makes the price decrease and it is only temporary that there are still many bitcoin users in that country . That means that every strict regulation given by the government will not make bitcoin destroyed and dissolved, there will always be people who make bitcoin survive and have value.

I think that the point of no return, at which all governments could prohibit the use of cryptocurrency, we have long passed. Many states have legalized Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency, and it makes a profit for both the state and citizens. We can see this by the example of Japan, which in this respect is noticeably ahead of other states. Therefore, I think that the general prohibition of cryptocurrency by all states is no longer possible.
If something happens and it does happen, then of course, for cryptocurrency and its users, this will be a big blow. However, citizens of different countries can always use a cryptocurrency for settlements between themselves and here the states can no longer do anything.

I am sure that the global government is a fake. Bitcoin can collapse only through the joint actions of whales. They are easy to manipulate prices. When will the panic sell they will buy a maximum of coins and sell them later at a high price. Only those who are not afraid to lose everything will win and will keep bitcoin indefinitely.

Governments don't like each other, it's just so that they tolerate each other to a certain (mostly financially motivated) degree.

I'm pretty certain that most governments are better off regulating the centralized ecosystem around Bitcoin rather than to attack it and have people go 'underground' and be way harder to follow and combat.

Drugs obviously is a completely different category, but the interesting aspect of it is that most countries in the world are extremely hostile towards drugs, and it still manages to be a market worth hundreds of billions of dollars, and that on a yearly basis. In other words, you can't prevent people from using something they want to use (regardless of how harsh the penalties are), especially when it comes to something like Bitcoin that provides financial freedom and an actual utility as money.

I think that it still will not prevent people from using bitcoin and perhaps its price will only be higher. For those who are afraid to invest in cryptocurrencies because it is not supported by the government of some countries, such a massive ban can have an impact. But for the rest people, this will only fuel interest in bitcoin.

I do not think that governments will ban Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. If the government prohibits cryptocurrencies, then they can fall dramatically at a price, but I don’t think they will die. I think it will be difficult to trade cryptocurrencies, but I think that demand for cryptocurrencies will remain.

That's certainly true, mate. In the event of a global government crackdown, there's always the choice of alternative networks and decentralized exchanges. While this is very unlikely to happen, we cannot discard the possibility that it could happen someday if Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies become a concern of national security (like criminals using it at a large scale to conduct illegal transactions, etc). If Bitcoin and other cryptos remain taxable property (like they are now), then they'll be supported by the government for a long time.  :)

Yes. But I believe that a global crackdown will occur if governments are deeply interested in forming a single world currency for the New World Order. Once that unified currency becomes active, then other alternatives (like Bitcoin, Fiat, etc) will be eliminated until the world is using the “One Global Currency” as the only medium of exchange. All countries will have a common currency, becoming much easier to track the world's transactions.

It sounds terrifying but if it becomes a reality, then cryptos and all fiat money as we know it will be dead in the future. There will only be "One Global Currency" for the world. Despite this, if a global crackdown never happens, then Bitcoin and other cryptos will continue to flourish in the mainstream world.

Most likely that could happen if many countries make a bitcoin ban in their country which makes the limitations of bitcoin. Certainly things like this will make bitcoin decrease in price

I don't think that the ban will be a problem.

We all know that there are a lot of countries that do not like Bitcoin or any of the crypto currencies but not all of the countries ban these since they all know that there is something in there that can help the country or help their people. Some banned Bitcoin, some don't and I do respect their reasons for banning Bitcoin but I think it is better not to ban them.

True.

Completely agree.

But still, if the government takes major action against BTC or crypto then it might be dump hard as people from all over the World remove their interest. So ultimately it will impact on price., which is the most volatile characteristic of Bitcoin. And finally, collapse.

Of course it will not affect the development of bitcoin, if there is no ban when bitcoin appears publicly, why when bitcoin has a fantastic value, the global government strictly prohibits its growth, of course it's just a game of manipulation so that everyone can throw it away and buy it, when it's time for bitcoin to rise again that the global government already has quite a lot of supply in 2018 yesterday there was a lot of fud news, which caused many people to panic and cause the price of bitcoin to fall, although not so bad at least they had made a trap that would benefit them later. .

Government have its power and they can do anything they want to do. But the good thing in crypto space, many countries will support this technology and it makes crypto not to collapse even the others tried it. Banning crypto in some countries will turn down our trust( and we can't deny it), but it happens that others are helping it to stay and so we support them.

if all governments from all countries have begun to give a ban on the use of bitcoin and bitcoin transactions then the price of bitcoin will surely collapse and many cryptocurrency traders will panic.

but bitcoin shouldn't be like that because this bitcoin was created has the purpose of creating a digital currency that can't be controlled by anyone, so maybe the price will collapse temporarily because of the influence of traders who panic and will definitely bounce again.

Not really, even the government will use bitcoin but not at this time after 2020, let's see it, I can't say that much but I believe it happened according to my analysis of the price of bitcoin later

it could happen if the government has banned crypto currency, I think we can't do anything, and there are even countries that punish people who use crypto currency

Every policy that made by government has the function to protect civilian from harm.

Crypto from my government side, consider as risky investment so they forbid crypto but other government have different opion about it because crypto is future technology especially for transaction purpose.

in my opinion it could collapse because now the government is not serving and opening up opportunities for bitcoin to emerge in this country so for me nowadays bitcoin is not as easy as it once was

Crypto from the beginning also did not attract attention by several agencies and governments so that it also did not have an impact on its development, but at this time they attracted the attention of many people but unfortunately there are still many debates especially those related to government regulations. this proves that every future crypto movement will continue to be monitored and this is not a good thing either

Bitcoin cannot collapse entirely or in a large scale due to a single government crackdown and that is the main advantage of a decentralized system but with a significant restriction it can definitely do a big damage to the entire bitcoin system and its price because investors, traders and holders are very concern about government view towards bitcoin specially when comes to make decisions to sell, hold or buy so it won't collapse but there can be a huge damage

we never know how the government will act in the future, which is certain that if there is a bluff from the government like that, of course there are many people who sometimes back down. because we cannot interfere with the decisions of the government. because the government has a large authority.

Ban of all governments will definitely dump Bitcoin's price. But I do not suppose all governments will want to try it unless there is a better system. Because if we can understand that cryptocurrency is the most suitable money for the future, they have already understood this. But IMO they have been waiting for the more appropriate one.

Even if this happens, people will still find ways to use bitcoin. On bitcoin it will certainly affect, but I think that not in a bad way. The community may be reduced, but the price will only grow because it will be more difficult to use bitcoin. But fortunately this will not happen, because we already have countries friendly to bitcoin, so it will still be used.

I also agreed that if all place ban on Bitcoin crypto currencies will definitely collapse but I don't see them doing that either because alot of respect, well know and influential people have joined the crypto market. Besides, this is one of the reason why every act played to stop bitcoin by the government and senior banker go futile.

Survive maybe yes, but what need to concerned is if they ban exchangers all over this world. It means we can't trade it or maybe exchange it into fiat anymore. And then maybe P2P transaction will come, but will a little hard to decide how many price of it.

Nah! I'm sure it'll collapse. Anything that get's illegalized by all governments in the world will not survive a global crackdown. Even p2p transactions would dwindle and eventually fail since few will have the confidence to deal with an illegal currency.

At first, there may be a very strong collapse in prices. But then the price will rise, because the use of bitcoin will be difficult. I don't think many people who are serious about crypto will be able to just leave it.
That's more than sure, habits are humans second nature so people who already got used to cryptocurrency, will have a hard time forgetting about them.
But I don't think there ever going to be massive collapse, at least not in the near future. Simply because governments across the world would have to work together and we know how good they are with cooperation. This will result in situation where users from one country are selling crypto to the people in the next one and so on. Price should be still more or less stable.
Global crackdown in order to work, would have to be orchestrated by a global governance, such thing does not exist so far and I would like to leave it that way, not only because of crypto obviously.

That will not happen bitcoin will be not banned
Look how many institution from fiat economy is looking for way to integrate bitcoin
Bakkt is good example ETF yet another i think will be more
There is also many traders who  know very well  that bitcoin is great source of incomes
So rather i don't think so i think that we will have further integration
We also need to notice that govs are not able to shut down anythink
All kind of legislation are created by parliaments  not govs
In democratic countries are also courts
There are also new election in any democratic country every few years
That what you are talking about can happen only in countries where is directorate

That's true. However, there's nothing stopping governments from completely banning cryptocurrencies and introducing a single global currency of their own. Right now, most governments are friendly to crypto for taxing and experimental purposes. Once crypto becomes strong enough to handle worldwide payments, then governments can start devising their own digital currencies in the future. Then, they'll go against cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum to promote the use of their newly-issued digital fiat currency.

It wouldn't be surprising if all the world's governments come together in an agreement to establish a single currency operated within a private blockchain for the whole world to use. If that happens, then no matter which country you're at, you'll be using the same currency all over again. Banks will be responsible for running the full nodes of the private blockchain, while decentralized cryptos will be targeted by such institutions.

In the meantime, we could all enjoy Bitcoin and other decentralized cryptocurrencies while the government stance is friendly. The moment that everything turns upside down, will be such were governments see crypto as a threat to their economic infrastructure (even if they could tax crypto). Just my thoughts ;D

It seems to me that the cryptocurrency is now at such a level of its introduction into our life that it is unlikely that the governments of all states can already agree and prohibit the circulation of cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency for this has become too well known and popular. To no longer happen, and it will be used by citizens for financial settlements. We also already see that many large states have begun to use cryptocurrency and legalize it, and they are unlikely to be able to ban it now. They are forced to listen to the opinions of their voters.

You do have a point there, mate. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have been active since their very beginnings. If governments would've wanted to prevent crypto from being adopted or used by people, they would've stopped it back in 2009. After 10 years of Bitcoin's inception, it seems very unlikely that a full government crackdown would take place in the future. Even Russia has decided to invest in Bitcoin due to US sanctions.

Which means, that more governments are embracing Bitcoin for their own benefit. If cryptocurrencies can be easily taxed by governments, then crypto will be here to stay for a very long time. As for country elections, you're right. Candidates are forced to listen to the opinion of their voters. Hence, if many people support cryptocurrencies, then such candidates would need to support them too in order to gain the necessary votes to get elected.

Of course, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are not fully mainstream yet. But when they do, they will become a part of everyone's lives, where every government would be forced to accept them. With upcoming regulations and government acceptance (like India accepting cryptocurrencies, and most recently, Russia), Bitcoin will be here to stay for future generations.

However, one cannot deny the possibility of a full government crackdown in the future, in case things do not turn out to become positive as they should (like crypto becoming a threat to national security, money laundering, etc). Just my thoughts ;D

Governments can't agree on a lot of more important things and now they should be all of a sudden "banning cryptocurrencies and introducing a single global currency of their own". Why should they necessarily ban cryptocurrencies to introduce a global currency? Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are a small aberration in the grand scheme of things, objectively and financially. And that leads us to the inevitable conclusion that the lack of a global currency is a proof that there is no agreement among governments, and thus no chance of banning cryptocurrencies universally. Pretty simple, isn't it?

To be honest I doubt it, but it will decrease the interest in bitcoin in general. I would still probably see bitcoin being used illegally like how drugs are used illegally.
It isn't going to happen anyways, if they wanted to stop bitcoin from growing, why didn't they regulate it when bitcoin was $20,000?
Most people also know about it now and know how to use it for the most part, so I don't think bitcoin isn't going anywhere.

Yes. That's true. Governments cannot agree in many things nowadays, which makes it practically impossible for them to destroy Bitcoin in the future. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are too big to fail these days. I believe that if governments would've wanted to put an end to Blockchain technology, they should've done so within the early days of Bitcoin back in 2009.

Now, it's been a decade since Bitcoin has emerged. Blockchain technology has improved so much, that there's now privacy coins with unique anonymity features which makes them harder to trace. Even if the development of Blockchain and cryptocurrencies will be put to an end by governments around the world, crypto will survive due to its open sourced and decentralized nature. That means that anyone can run a full node to support a specific cryptocurrency's Blockchain without limitations. With the available technologies today (like Tor, i2p, etc) Bitcoin and crypto is here to stay.

Yes they will be a major breakdown in bitcoin which will lead to losing interest in blockchain. But I don't think such will happen because governmental bodies are beginning to see the importance of bitcoin and Cryptocurrency generally.

Governments have seen this new trend of cryptocurrencies and Blockchain technology, very beneficial to them. If governments continue to tax cryptocurrencies, then they'll be here to stay for a long time. This is because, taxing crypto makes them a legitimate medium of exchange. They've been extremely beneficial for governments (like the US) mainly for taxing purposes. It's very unlikely that at some point, governments would turn against cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum (unless they become a threat to national security).

Despite this, time will tell what lies with the future of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies' stance among worldwide governments. ;)

The government does have an important role in the development of the crypto world. It can even be stated that when the government makes a decision, this will directly affect the price of crypto. A negative decision will certainly produce a negative thing and when the government makes a supportive decision it will make a positive development towards the direction of crypto development.

The problem is that the government cannot understand how crypto will work, they misunderstand it. They only know that crypto can be used as a tool for money laundering, even though it can be more than that and certainly later we can solve this problem. Their prohibition is truly the party that understands crypto becomes overwhelmed

It doesn't mean that Bitcoin is necessarily going to fail (though who knows), but I definitely can't say the same in regard to the rest of cryptocurrencies, with probably only two exceptions, those being Litecoin and Dogecoin which seem to have real use. Further, it's been a decade since Bitcoin appeared but we don't see a lot of application yet. So how big will it be if we remove the speculative component from it?

Well, if you look at the infrastructure of most popular Blockchain projects (like BTC, ETH, DOGE, ...), you'll notice that they're still alive and running with numerous nodes and miners supporting them. I was referring that cryptocurrencies are too big to fail based on these facts. Of course, if we base ourselves on transaction activity, Dogecoin and Litecoin are widely used in the mainstream world. Even Dogecoin is being more used than Bitcoin Cash itself.

While I agree that there's not a lot of application yet for cryptocurrencies, I believe that's bound to change in the future as they become widely regulated by governments worldwide, and the hype of Blockchain tech comes to an end. If I were to name a few cryptocurrencies that will last for a lifetime, those would be Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin, and Ethereum. The rest may lose support in the future if there's no real uses for them. Mainstream adoption is key here for any crypto to become successful.

As for a global government crackdown, it seems very unlikely right now. But who knows? Anything could happen in the future ::)

An entire collapse due to a government crackdown? No! Just as there are some governments against Bitcoin, there also some governments in supports of Bitcoin. One of the advantages of decentralization is that no single body owns absolute control over the market, hence governments can only cause damage to Bitcoin to some extent but not entirely destroying it.

If the government can effectively control the bitcoin, it will going to collapse but I doubt if all governments will agree to the idea of banning the bitcoin globally. A group of countries called G20 are planning to impose a global regulations instead of banning to counter mney laundering, terrorism and other crimes that uses cryptocurrencies. These moves by the governments will prove that  they not going to make crackdown on cryptocurrencies because according to them crypto is important for global ecobomy.

Basically Bitcoin can be used so easily because as long as we have internet access we will be able to use bitcoin. Some countries have indeed banned the use of Bitcoin, but everyone can still use Bitcoin because there is a lot of access that we can use. Actually the role of the government is very large in making a trust in the market, the Government will influence whether Bitcoin can be a commodity that is trusted or not. the role of the government is very vital, and if it is true that the government will ban Bitcoin it is evident that the decline in Bitcoin prices is just waiting for time.

That's not my point exactly

I don't deny these things as such but all this infrastructure will be useless if people stop using these currencies. Really, what's the purpose of miners if no one is sending transactions anyway? It is impossible to transact without miners, and they are required (as long as we use PoW), but they are definitely not everything which is required here and certainly not the most important pebble on the beach

Further, I didn't mean Bitcoin or Dogecoin (you can also add Litecoin to them) as these are likely the only coins which have real value backing them up and coming from real world use (e.g. Dogecoin being a coin of choice for gambling). On the other hand, I don't think of Bitcoin Cash or Ethereum as something worthy of investing long term (apart from aggressively short selling them on rebounds)

Of course one of the main reason why bitcoin is decentralized and use blockchain technology is to withstand attacks from centralized organizations and also bitcoin cannot collapse entirely or in a large scale due to a single government crackdown and that is the main advantage of a decentralized system but with a significant restriction it can definitely do a big damage to the entire bitcoin system and its price because investors, traders and holders are very concern about government view towards bitcoin specially when comes to make decisions to sell, hold or buy so it won't collapse but there can be a huge damage

Government can stop bitcoin. The thing that can make bitcoin stop is community. If community think bitcoin is not secure anymore as store of value, people will leave bitcoin and not use it anymore. People always looking for security and government only can regulating

Yes, the government can stop bitcoin, I am sure they can. But the problem is they need to shut down the internet connection in all of the world because bitcoin is connected with the internet. Although the government ban bitcoin, I am sure people will search another way to use bitcoin if they think bitcoin can bring more benefit to them. But I don't think that the government will stop bitcoin and I think they are thinking about what they can do with bitcoin.

In fact, they don't even need to ban Bitcoin directly as cracking down on major exchanges will suffice for bringing it down. It won't kill Bitcoin, not in the least, but that will make its use not worth it. Strictly speaking, Bitcoin is not a great threat to governments anyway (I mean major ones), so they don't need to do anything yet. But we can already assess the effect of such intervention by an example of ZCash. It was banned on a couple of important exchanges and now it is of no interest to anyone

The government will not do that because if they cannot even stop corruption mhow can bitcoin be?Each governments has been fighting corruption for long time but yet theres always here.

But if this happens surely bitcoin will collapse in face of the legalization then after the illegal adoption will happen ,if they cant stop drugs in physical form, then what more bitcoin in virtual ?

Hey there’s no way government can be the death knell of bitcoins, as they cannot stop people from using bitcoins, at max they can ban it but people will always find ways to use it. If you’re not aware now governments are taxing bitcoins, and some have even made it a legal currency to earn more revenues from it. In many USA states you can pay off your taxes in crypto’s, which shows that government is going to adopt crypto’s not kill it.

The possibility is much lower for a government to crackdown the bitcoin network because it is not centralized to any location in the world so unlike other large expanded organizations bitcoin cannot break down from a single strike and that is the main reason why it was able to survive during last couple of years facing many restrictions which is a bold significant quality in bitcoin network that comes with decentralization and blockchain technology

That's certainly true, mate. The outcome is likely impossible to happen, because many governments cannot reach an agreement. Thanks to Bitcoin's decentralized nature, it's hard to take the Blockchain system all by itself. It would've been much easier for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to become disrupted by governments worldwide if they were centralized. In this sense, Ripple (XRP) has a huge risk of facing a global government crackdown because of its centralized nature. If Bitcoin becomes threated by governments, then people would simply use or support it via alternative networks such as Tor, or i2p.

Nonetheless, time will tell us what will truly happen with the regulatory stance of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. If most governments remain friendly towards crypto, then there should be nothing to worry about. Just my thoughts ;D

A lot of large world states have already adopted cryptocurrency, therefore it is hardly possible to ban it by all states. However, if this happens, the cryptocurrency will be very bad. Due to the fact that on the Internet you can ban everything that will be connected with it,
it will be used only by a small group of enthusiasts who will no longer be able to raise it to the proper level. However, the prerequisites for such a global ban does not exist.

How can a government stop BITCOIN with digital or internet based.
Which anyone can use the coin without having its identity while drugs are being circulate all around the world but can't stop?
Peace is also an issue for every country which they can't get and then they will have unity in getting BTC banned?

If there is no way to exchange Bitcoin into Fiat money then it would pretty much die. Most people buy bitcoins using fiat money in the first place only to resell to make a profit and turn back into fiat money.  Bitcoin will unfortunatly always be tied up with Fiat money and that is the downfall of Bitcoin..

All that is just nonsense and of course this is a game of global elites and the central government, which I know is that a lot of news wants to drop bitcoin, even though behind that there is interference from global governments, so they can supply so much bitcoin, because they know more about bitcoin and they have designed a plan to reduce prices in all markets in 2018 yesterday, so the point is they make a lot of people panic, so that everyone throws away the bitcoin and they wait for the moment they have designed as well as possible ...

I don't think it is going to die

As long as you can exchange Bitcoin directly for some good or service, it will have value. Ultimately, this is what the whole shebang is about, i.e. turning Bitcoin into a full-fledged currency in and of itself. If it becomes that, it won't need fiat. I could even go as far as to say that without fiat sticking around it would fare even better in that case (as a means of payment). Money is not bestowed on us by our financial gods (though you may still believe in Mammon) as it is created by us in pretty mundane ways with utilitarian purposes in mind

There is no possibility for ever government from around the world to place a ban on bitcoin or cryptocurrency. I'd you have been listening to the news you would find out that most countries are accepting bitcoin
Maybe the question is only if that thing happen, because when there is bad news about bitcoin, it does not rule out the possibility that the government has previously supported,  make bitcoin illegal in their  country. That is why it is actually depends on all of us as holders to support it and not use it into bad thing.

If indeed all countries will carry out rejection regulations, then clearly the value of bitcoin will be very cheap and will not even be worth it anymore because every country has banned activities with bitcoin.
Obviously bitcoin will die if all countries declare that bitcoin is illegal, because prices drop dramatically and nobody buys it. So the owner of bitcoin is the same as having something very cheap.
This condition can occur if bitcoin is contrary to the state policy that has been set. Therefore, to avoid such things, bitcoin must adapt to state policies globally.

Well, there's no doubt that governments control what happens in the mainstream world. While Bitcoin and most other cryptocurrencies are decentralized, many exchanges are most certainly not. Because of this, governments have some sort of power over the trading or exchange of cryptocurrencies around the world. If decentralized exchanges would've dominated the market, I'm sure that it'll become much more difficult for any government to try to stop Bitcoin. Of course, there's always the option of P2P or in-person trades. However, it'll never be the same as trading Bitcoin via exchanges.

Given how Blockchain technology as advanced, it's becoming more difficult for governments to gain control of any cryptocurrency we know and love today. Bitcoin being the most prominent cryptocurrency, is the largest Blockchain in terms of hashrate and user support. For Bitcoin to truly collapse by a global government crackdown, the whole Internet needs to collapse too (which is something nearly impossible).

Nonetheless, a good thing that has Bitcoin is that it's resilient, allowing it to survive many events in the real world. Just my opinion :)

The government cannot destroy itself because of the dispersion of Bitcoin. However, they can control and restrict the use of bitcoins within their jurisdiction.

For example, they can close the bank accounts of encrypted money companies, and they can prohibit the creation of any related business. If only a few countries ban encrypted currencies, the impact will be limited, because businesses will only move to more friendly jurisdictions.

This is exactly what happened after China banned its domestic order Exchange last year. Although it's almost certain that one or more governments will pursue Bitcoin in the same way, I think it's almost impossible to achieve a global ban. It's a different matter to assume that the United Nations will reach such a consensus.

In addition, Bitcoin is already legal in Japan. It would be very harmful if the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and China jointly banned encrypted currencies.

More likely, however, they regulate encrypted money markets to protect the interests of individual investors while collecting taxes.

And in a couple of them it can even be rightfully and legitimately considered legal tender, though at a local level only (and as a commodity at a federal level). But that's not my point. Simply put, you can't ban what you can't prevent. Bitcoin is like gravity in this respect. Technically, you can pass a law or proclaim a court ruling that would ban gravity for good but will such an order have any effect on it?

I don't know the crackdown that the government will do for bitcoin. But bitcoin can hold back from anything, and even bitcoin will become stronger because bitcoin is not bounded by anything. Maybe the government can ban bitcoin, but people will look the other way to use bitcoin because bitcoin represents freedom for every people to have their own assets without any border. But the government can do whatever they can to crackdown bitcoin because they have unlimited resources and they can hold the grow of bitcoin with their power. But bitcoin will still grow from time to time, and we will see there will be adopted in many places.

I never expected that would happen, because in my opinion. If all governments in the world ban Cryptocurrency, Cryptocurrency is certain to die. But that is impossible, we see that nowadays there are many countries that accept Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency. And my hope is, more and more countries will legalize Bitcoin, so that the price of Bitcoin can go up to the moon.
Bitcoin continues to grow because there is support from countries that expressly legalize bitcoin, so that growth is very good.
This is different from the country that bans bitcoin, the people involved in bitcoin trading find it difficult to indulge in fear of lawsuits.
So bitcoin will surely die if all countries say that bitcoin is illegal, because all illegal ones must violate the law. But I don't think that's possible, because many countries see the benefits of using bitcoin.

Good point. The distributed nature of Bitcoin makes it difficult to enforce laws that would prevent the complete usage of Bitcoin within a specific region. Of course, anyone caught using Bitcoin in a country where it's illegal, will face serious consequences. But, "banning" the usage of Bitcoin, won't prevent it from being used secretly or from being maintained by other people worldwide. Considering how governments have their different views one from another, they cannot reach an agreement in many things.

I believe the same thing will happen with Bitcoin, where there will be some countries in favor of it, while there will be others against it. It's very unlikely that a global government crackdown would happen anytime soon, because of said reasons. However, if this happens, then it will be completely disastrous for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Nonetheless, we shouldn't worry about this, since many governments nowadays are seeing Bitcoin and other crypto as a great tool for taxation. With this, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will be legal tender for a very long time. Just my thoughts ;D

Bitcoin is also a weapon of economic mass destruction

In fact, there is a conspiracy theory that it was created by government agencies to bring down weak economies (e.g. Venezuelan). Take it for what it's worth, but big countries with strong economies (say, the US) should be interested in Bitcoin as it gives them a tool or even a weapon to disrupt the economies of their enemies. So there is no incentive for superpowers to ban Bitcoin when they can use it to their own advantage

If all county ban bitcoin nation wide,is like bitcoin will start on loosing in the memory of all people because no one can use bitcoin because of the ban.
That is, if they can ban it properly. The only means of the government for banning it is to shutdown exchanges in their respective countries. So if people really wanted, they could still use even if its monetary value isn't much. Take eth for example. I'm pretty sure it would be used even if it goes back to 3$ with its smart contract capabilities.

Its almost impossible for government to shut down the internet. What government can do is only banning or prohibiting bitcoin transaction. But government must be want to take benefits from bitcoin by collecting taxes from bitcoin transaction or cryptocurrency market

That's certainly true, mate. Given how big Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have become, it's nearly impossible for any government to shut them down. Of course, governments will try their best into stopping the usage of Bitcoin worldwide. But the decentralized design of Bitcoin, will keep it going for many years to come. Nowadays, it's widely possible to support Bitcoin within alternative networks (like Tor and i2p). Even if such networks become compromised, there's always the possibility of running a private network.

Despite this, it's very unlikely that there would be a global government crackdown in the future (except when something drastic happens). Many governments have already been taxing Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Which means, that they've seen these alternative medium of exchange very beneficial to them. Within a few years from now, it's hoped that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies become a legal form of payment worldwide. Just my thoughts ;D

The possibility of a government crackdown on bitcoin is unlikely, only legal ones can make bitcoin worse other. We think in a positive way for bitcoin.

The government will act by issuing regulations that can make bitcoin die, if bitcoin is used by criminals and terrorists. But the government will also give the opportunity for bitcoin to develop and become a digital currency that is really needed by the community.
Of course there are several requirements that must be fulfilled by Bitcoin, among others, can contribute to the progress of society, income and avoid use by criminals.

Regulations aren't there to make bitcoin die but to lessen the compromises especially when it comes to security. I'm pretty sure it can start mass adoption with people gaining  confidence in making investments. We need government support if we are to progress. One thing crypto can't afford is a worldwide crackdown.

It will be very difficult for btc to compete against governmental rejection. Unless it has been provoked by government itself, btc won't survive in conditions of political disapproval, on a global scale.

Perhaps, it will survive after all. With the available technologies today, Bitcoin can stand the test of time via alternative networks and devices. If governments become too oppressive against Bitcoin, then one could easily support the BTC blockchain by other means (whenever in a P2P or in-person fashion, or via the use of Tor, i2p, or even ZeroNet). Still though, the most important thing is that Bitcoin remains as decentralized as possible to be able to withstand the most disrupting attacks within the future.

Given how big Bitcoin has grown today, it may be very unlikely that a global government crackdown would become successful in the not-so-distant future. The open-source and decentralized nature of Bitcoin has allowed it to "copy" itself into other crypto projects (Bitcoin forks) that live on their own. In the event Bitcoin becomes threatened, it could survive as another blockchain network or as the same blockchain within a private or alternative network.

Therefore, the odds for a crackdown happen is zero to none. Time will tell us what lies ahead for the future of Bitcoin as a decentralized cryptocurrency for the mainstream world. Just my thoughts ;D

While the intentions of governments to unite in order to ban, or even limit the circulation of cryptocurrency, is not planned. On the contrary, the reverse trend is likely to occur. As can be seen from another topic in this section, 111 states actually recognized the circulation of cryptocurrency as legal and only in ten states are considered illegal. So there is no reason yet to fear that the government may unite to prohibit the circulation of cryptocurrency.

I agree. If governments has advancements the crypto community will also having such advancements and it could be more than that. Governments can only regulate local exchnages not Bitcoin itself they might implement a total ban on it but still we are able to use it with secrecy as every problem there will always be a solution. Not all governments are against Bitcoin so I think it is to hard for them to shut down Bitcoin.

Well, in my opinion I do not think so, considering that Bitcoin has many enemies that always attack with the intention of knocking it down. But there is a very important detail, this market does not depend on governments or third parties, this is a market that is completely represented by Supply-Demand, is governed according to those principles and escapes completely from the hands that want to take advantage of technology.

There are institutions and people that handle a large amount of money flow, some bet directly on this market, because they see a lot of potential and structure to take it as a way of making trading.

Very deeply there are people who work behind the curtain, some miners, people who build their castles in the air and are prepared to respond with a lot of capital if they see their investment at risk.

There are countries what are not so much friendly for bitcoin and we can imagine that banking industry will like to create kind of regime but it will create rebel immediately

Bitcoin belongs to internet and it can be to costly to shutdown or limit internet in whatever way

There are actually so many reasons why bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies collapsed, one is because of the bull run that triggers so many holders and investors sell their holding of other crypto for them to have bigger profit. Also they said that big whales are holding buying and selling it every time that makes the price to collapse and dump so far.

And the media really made a lot of this with many different headlines of banning and the likes which scared many people away and made many to sell at loss . Crackdown won’t happen at this stage because there is many involvement even from some government individuals and arms. So personally it’s not what we should be bothered about. We should only look forward to adoption and regulations to effect use cases.

With respect to Government itself, there's now way for cryptocurrency to collapse as long as fiat is concerned at all. The value of bitcoin depends also on how the fiat economy also circulates it's demand, that's why if government prohibits crypto; people can't transact freely. Freedom cannot be enjoyed when there's strong regulation and when government is going to crackdown crypto, they can't penetrate blockchain network so digital currency remains intact and safe. There's should be separation of government and crypto, that's why even if Government will try to demolish crypto people can still use the system without any barriers due to anonymousity.

So far, some governments have been against each other, which proves the lack of agreement among the same. It'll be hard for all the world's governments to threaten the very existence of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Even if it does happen (which is very unlikely), people will resort to other means in order to support the longevity of cryptocurrencies. Until now, Bitcoin has been very beneficial to governments for taxing purposes.

Which means that Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will be here to stay for that very reason. As with any technology, Blockchain tech is a double-edged sword. It can be used for both legal and illegal purposes. As such, Bitcoin's legitimacy would prove itself with proper regulatory measures from governments worldwide. Only then, Bitcoin will be here to stay for many generations.

Nonetheless, while a massive government crackdown is highly unlikely now, Bitcoin's existence could be at risk in the event of a global catastrophe (such as the Internet shutting down, global power outage, etc). Just my opinion :)

From the beginning of Bitcoin transactions there have been several doubt regarding trading and mining of Bitcoin these all are because of ignorance .Among that doubt there arise a doubt whether Bitcoin will collapse by global government crackdown it is a false belief if a crackdown to happen the whole computer system have to be stopped this cannot be applicable because countries in the global system have accepted Bitcoins in this modern world nothing can be operated without a computer and internet system all the h-tech companies will have to be stopped .if and that will be a waste of resources .if exchanges are banned people will not be able to cash out but still can trade offline .

There's always a workaround for everything. If governments become too oppressive towards Bitcoin, then people will find a way to continue supporting and trading it. There's no secret to this. However, such situation may be highly unlikely to happen since governments have seen Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a benefit to them for taxation purposes. If Bitcoin can be taxed easily, then governments will have a friendly approach to it.

A global government crackdown would be hard to achieve, as Bitcoin is distributed across many computers worldwide. The whole Internet as we know it would need to shut down completely, in order to have a negative impact over Bitcoin. Even so, Bitcoin can be used via alternative methods such as a private network or anonymity networks (like Tor and i2p). It all comes down to whenever the people have the desire to continue supporting Bitcoin at its fullest when adverse situations occur. Just my thoughts ;D

the beginning of the crypto currency was born in this world has received rejection from all over the world because it would threaten the existing currency. however, over time each country has made use of this currency. and to date, crypto money has been able to survive even though it often suffers from negative issues. and advertisements about crypto currencies were banned from being posted on Google and Facebook. but this currency can survive until now. so this currency will continue to grow and last until any time.

I think differently from you.
I am sure that in time, crypto will be adopted by all countries in the world along with the development of the era, especially in technological matters.
and the global government's problem with banning, is just as big and most of it is wanting to monopolize the crypto trade.
for example, JP Morgan strictly prohibits bitcoin and crypto but eventually they adopt crypto even though it does not have its characteristics

There is no reason for panic. Most large and influential states accept and legalize cryptocurrency. While not quite clear position on this issue in China. There, as always, they are looking for their own way to mastering cryptocurrency.
I think that we have already passed the point of no return on this matter. The main thing is that people appreciated the advantages of cryptocurrency and, given this, governments will not be able to completely ban the circulation of cryptocurrency.

I think people will invent new ways of using it and its price will rise up and it will be used like a drugs.

new ways of using it ? bitcoin already being used on almost any thing  .  i dont think that there will be another new way of using it  .  price hike will only depend on the demand and on other factors  .  lastly , bitcoin is already being used to buy a drug before on the deep web  .

Not sure what any government would gain by banning crypto when you can tax it.

if government ban crypto they can gain nothing but they think that its much better than not banning it at all because they are afraid that people will stop using fiats  .

It would be very harmful if the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and China jointly banned encrypted currencies

Bitcoin is also legal in the United States

And in a couple of them it can even be rightfully and legitimately considered legal tender, though at a local level only (and as a commodity at a federal level). But that's not my point. Simply put, you can't ban what you can't prevent. Bitcoin is like gravity in this respect. Technically, you can pass a law or proclaim a court ruling that would ban gravity for good but will such an order have any effect on it?
Even if governments ban the usage of Bitcoin, all they can do is to restrict some trading platforms in their respective countries but they cannot stop their citizens from having a Bitcoin wallet and there are a lot of ways to have it, the government know exactly, that they cannot ban this technology completely and there is no way of doing it. But we are lucky enough that most of the governments in this world are not against Bitcoin or Crypto Currency, only some minority countries ban the usage of this technology. 8)

It would depend. If it was simply policy making it illegal, then it would most certainly affect the price, probably drastically dropping it. If at all possible that there was a global takedown of BTC, then obviously it would be worthless - except for maybe collector's items (a Bitcoin paper wallet!). As it is, it seems like it would be a pretty difficult thing to do to shut down Bitcoin (I certainly won't say it's impossible). Not too far-stretched to imagine a global ban, as we're moving closer to the Biblically foretold one world government ruled by the Anti-Christ.

For now, Bitcoin is accepted in several countries.

Have a good day,
The Cyberius team.

There is not something like global government
Governments in most countries are changing every few years
Government in any democratic country don't create the law
It is legislation procedure to create law in democratic country
There are countries what are not so much friendly for bitcoin and we can imagine that banking industry will like to create kind of regime but it will create rebel immediately
Tell me also how will be possible for anybody to crackdown bitcoin
Bitcoin belongs to internet and it can be to costly to shutdown or limit internet in whatever way
Agree, each government has its own rules and views afterall, so we don't need to worry about bitcoin's global government crackdown issue. precisely what we have to worry about is that there are individual crackdowns like hackers, they might do that, because the network on the internet is very likely to be hacked by them

most likely if the government prohibits the circulation of bitcoin in each country, yes of course, bitcoin will sometimes experience a serious decline. but in reality there are still countries that agree with bitcoin. so we don't have to worry.
If bitcoin collapses until it's destroyed, I don't think it's possible, even though many countries prohibit its use, because transactions occur in cyberspace.
But a decline in the number of users is very possible because there are still many who think that following government regulations is better than fighting them, because fighting the government can result in breaking the law.
Now there are still many countries that legalize bitcoin so there is no need to worry, even more countries are predicted to legalize it.

Indeed, no sane government will go for it as you can't ban something which you can't prevent (and Bitcoin obviously falls into this category of unpreventable things), but there are enough rogue governments as well and yet more those somewhere in between which could actually try to ban crypto. Whatsmore, a few countries already did just that, like certain African countries which see Bitcoin as a threat and competitor to their weak fiat currencies

Completely agree with you, mate. At this point in time, it's very difficult (if not impossible) to be able to take down cryptocurrencies at their entirety. Bitcoin being the main innovator in this space, has enabled thousands of "copies" to emerge thanks to its open source design. Nowadays, Bitcoin and several other cryptocurrencies have massive hashrate and nodes available on the network. The only thing governments can do is to restrict people to trade cryptocurrencies at centralized exchanges, but they cannot stop its usage whatsoever.

One way or another, people will find alternative ways to get access to Bitcoin in case governments become too oppressive. However, this is very unlikely because governments have seen Bitcoin and other crypto beneficial for taxing purposes. Therefore, as long as Bitcoin can be taxed and easily traced, governments will continue to actively support it. Just my thoughts ;D

I agree with you here. It won't really stop it, it will have the same effects than alcohol in the times of the prohibition. Would it make Bitcoin cheaper, at first i believe that it totally would. Later it may or may not recover depending on what investors do really.

However, i think that the more widely adopted it is. The higher the price will be.

Since there are still countries that have not yet been penetrated by cryptocurrencies so as other countries start banning bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, other countries that are not yet into it will just be starting to try so will not really be a sudden fall. Governments' attempts to destroy Bitcoin these days will fail altogether because of how big it has become. It's hard to reach unanimity among all the governments of the world, as they can't agree upon many things in real life. Which means that if a specific country bans the usage of Bitcoin, there will always be countries which support it. The odds of Bitcoin collapsing by a global government crackdown are becoming low each day.

Now that governments have found out that it's easy to tax Bitcoin, they'll allow it to grow for the foreseeable future. Despite this, we should be prepared for any situation as the Blockchain industry is still highly uncertain. Just my thoughts ;D

If all governments have banned the circulation of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, I think that after a certain time they would cease to exist. Most people would not have long relied on government bans, and the state’s exchange and cryptocurrency exchange platforms would close. Separate groups of people would still use cryptocurrency, but it would not play much value.
However, we see that in practice this is unlikely to happen. The main states have already legalized cryptocurrency or are going to do it. Cryptocurrency continues to develop successfully.

Why would they want to crackdown on crypto when they are and could
earn revenue by taxation? Most countries at the moment treat crypto
the same as any other commodities or shares they get taxes when
it goes back to FIAT.
Those governments that has a crackdown policy for crypto are the countries that who’s afraid of the decentralization and anonymity of cryptocurrency because in this area they will be gone from the corruptions and illegal activities they are having right now.so thats why they are eager of banning our market.but lookt Japan whose one of the most progressive and developed country that accepted bitcoin opn hand to use as currency

Bitcoin will not collapse even though the government as a whole prohibits its use, but cannot develop because limited space and bitcoin users are considered illegal.
This will not happen because there are still many countries that legalize bitcoin and even provide extensive space to develop, because the country is aware that digital money will not be rejected in the future. So they prepare themselves now and are ready when the time comes.

That's certainly true, mate. Cryptocurrencies are independent, due to their open and decentralized design. Anyone can support a blockchain network at will without restrictions whatsoever. In case the governments become too oppressive, one could easily join alternative or private networks to continue supporting cryptocurrencies. No matter how hard governments and other third parties try to circumvent or limit the usage of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, they'll never succeed largely because of how much time passed since their inception.

One thing to have into consideration is that blockchain networks have many nodes and miners supporting them (compared to its early days). Which means that it has become computationally expensive to perform a successful attack on a blockchain network, making a full crackdown highly unlikely. All that governments can do now, is to simply join Bitcoin or be left behind in the old banking system. So far, they've seen crypto as highly beneficial to them which is a good sign that Bitcoin and altcoins will be here to stay for a long time. Just my thoughts ;D

- I think the government ban on crypto and bitcoin is not the main reason for the crypto market to fall deeply, this ban is only a tool for whale groups, they use this information and create strong waves, pushing the market price down to the lowest possible level for the purpose of accumulation and ready for the pump wave. And people always think that the government ban directly affects the price of crypto while whales are the main reason for this story, bitcoin and crypto can still bring certain benefits, so governments of nations will not ban it completely or destroy it, the evidence is that until now, bitcoin still exists and grows

The bitcoin network would become unusable if one day the internet will be shut down. I guess there is no person on this planet that could want to do this. His money in the online banks will be lost, his friends would hate him, if the internet will be shut down.

It will collapse really hard. Surviving of it might be on a low percentage.

Wait stale? Is that an adjective for food? If you're not a high profile then nobody in the government will try to supervise you. But, of course, they will eventually control the blockchain in which transaction happens. And they will find out who holds the address of a transaction in blockchain.

Well yes because there are loopholes with bitcoin and one of it is the crowdfunding activities where it was being design and copy from the bitcoin system. In fact these coins can be brought using BTC and even traded it once it wi be listed in an exchange. At first crowdfunding was good but later on it went so bad that the number of ICO projects related to scam reaches to almost 80-90% basing on report posted in a blog. Thid could be the reason why government will go down and close bitcoin.

That's certainly true, mate. Bitcoin is largely flexible as a cryptocurrency providing the means to run it either online or offline. Thanks to its open and decentralized design, anyone can support the Bitcoin blockchain in many ways. Considering all the time that has passed since Bitcoin's inception, it has become harder for governments to act against it. As such, the least they could do is to tax and try to regulate Bitcoin for mainstream use.

Still, if a global government crackdown takes place, people will figure out a way to continue using Bitcoin secretly. Nowadays, all of this is possible with the inception of Tor and i2p. Anonymous and private networks, will serve as the basis for cryptocurrencies if something like this happens.

Nonetheless, everything depends whenever governments are deeply interested in letting Bitcoin grow or all the way around it. Just my opinion :)

But you can't blame BTC for that, BTC is just a platform, to minimize the risk of scams the government has to come in with their regulation, or improve the current crowdfunding system and I see Exchanges are facilitating ICO and that's an improvement.

in my opinion bitcoin won't collapse. because bitcoin has grown rapidly. Bitcoin developers are everywhere. so it will be difficult to tear down bitcoin. and even though some countries reject bitcoin but there are still many people in the country who trade, mine or invest. so I think bitcoin will not collapse because of a strict ban from the government. precisely in the future I think bitcoin will grow further.

No matter how hard, actions taken by the government, but their strength cannot defeat the power of their people, especially the world community. Therefore I assume, as long as bitcoin's still widely used by the wider community, it seems that the collapse of bitcoin's unlikely to be realized, I think this's what makes bitcoin still exist and can survive until now, IMO.

Most probably but it will not be a sudden effect but a slow decline I believe. Since there are still countries that have not yet been penetrated by cryptocurrencies so as other countries start banning bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, other countries that are not yet into it will just be starting to try so will not really be a sudden fall. But talking about all countries banning it, it will surely die I think.
We already know that the prohibition rules adopted by several countries some time ago successfully made the prices in the market shook and fell very deep. I can't imagine what will happen to bitcoin and crypto if all countries forbid it, it might collapse to crypto ?
It will be true, since the price bitcoin just based on speculation. Every users will sell bitcoin if there is a government decide to ban cryptocurrency, although will give short term effect on the price movement. However, if all countries decide to ban cryptocurrency then there are many chance for bitcoin user will sell bitcoin they have. Indeed, that's all depends on the user itself, as far as I know with the movement price bitcoin so far highly susceptible with a country's decision on bitcoin/cryptocurrency.

No matter how hard, actions taken by the government, but their strength cannot defeat the power of their people, especially the world community. Therefore I assume, as long as bitcoin's still widely used by the wider community, it seems that the collapse of bitcoin's unlikely to be realized, I think this's what makes bitcoin still exist and can survive until now, IMO.

I doubt. If the government makes bitcoin illegal, there surely will be repercussions when using it. And not many people would be willing to risk getting reprimanded over that. A collapse is highly possible. Though a strict crackdown is unlikely. Most governments don't see why such an innovation should be suppressed.

It is one of the largest organizations and is considered legal in all regulations. But this does not mean that it can destroy anything it wants. I believe the government cannot do what they wish to with Bitcoin and Crypto. We live in a world with anonymity, they can't control us, and this is great.

Yes the other reason even the government ban bitcoin will not make bitcoin collapse is the internet, the government must ban internet if they really want make bitcoin collapse but i am they can not do that it will make the government collapse too because no internet on there. Bitcoin can not be stoped right now and it is good chance to us because soon or later bitcoin will be addopted by mass in the future.

It would end so easily if all the goverment will ban it. But I think you are not actually looking at the progress being made to cryptocurrency.  Yes there might be some sort of a crackdown but this doesn't effect bitcoin. So far what I have known are those cryptocurrency that could have been doing scams are the ones which I think are being investigated and will be banned. There are so many positive updates on cryptocurrency as of this month and I think you just missed some good news.

Unless you use mixing service to still anonymity, if you still use an exchange who need KYC or anything else related to it then government still have a way to track your assets, your transactions and more. I guess that is a misconceptions that should be change from now.
