Title: Need help bitcoin core
Post by: Bit Tal on January 30, 2019, 09:06:42 AM
I installed Bitcoin Core 0.17.1 and left to synchronize

https://bitcoin.org/ru/download

three days have passed but the wallet has not been synchronized

synchronization has passed less than half and it is necessary to wait another three years

I think that this simply can not be and I'm doing something wrong

if anyone encountered this problem please help  ???

1) Wrong section.
2) Nothing unusual if your system is slow/network is slow.
3) The "three years" is the amount of blockchain age you still have to catch up with; it's not the estimated wait time until sync.

You need to understand that you are downloading a file which is over 200GB. You need a high speed net with reasonable download speed. I hope you read this post: https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node

I'm boldly gonna state that the download speed is not the bottleneck here (well, I'm hoping OP has at least 1MB/s).

...downloading a file ...
:D

everything is very simple , most likely you have a weak internet

faced such a problem , her decision was quite simple

1  go to the site  and download the blockchain database https://getbitcoinblockchain.com

2  then transfer the blocks folder to disk C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin if you changed the default path then throw in your way

3  run bitcoin core and wait a while

I hope I was useful to you

Do not do this. This is horrible advice and has not been recommended since 0.10/11.

I shared my experience, which really helped me, two months have passed and everything is fine

Please stop sharing your experience. It is based on false knowledge. Excluding some absurd edge-cases, directly synching from the wallet is always faster and safer.

Tsk tsk.

Have you read Lauda's response? I agree with Lauda, the download speed is probably NOT the bottleneck, and download the blocks via torrent is not a good idear and no longer recommanded.

At this moment, your wallet is downloading each block, verifying if the block header's hash is under the target at that moment in time, verifying each transaction in the block, building a merkle tree, updating the UTXO set,... These things take a lot of CPU cycles, disk IO and memory...
Downloading the blockchain over torrent will only cut back on the download time, and since you download at 10 Mb/second, this is not the bottleneck.

OP listen here. Don't download from the link provided, it's no longer recommended. Don't fall for fast/speed.

Are you looking to run a full node or just hold a few bitcoins and do some transactions here and there?
You dont need to go through downloading the entire blockchain, you can just use Electrum that doesn't require you to do that. Here is a quick comparison between the two and for the average user, Electrum should be just fine.

My guess is that OP is trying to run a full node. If he was trying for a simple wallet then he could use any web wallet easily or any exchange wallet too once he would realize that it's taking too much time to sync the core.

These are my guess by the way.

Fact that he doesn't know why it's taking so long means probably the opposite. OP just wants to transact some btc and doesnt know that bitcore is a full node client.

OP maybe you should try a different wallet, most people would recommend electrum.org , but remember to be safe and not trust any weird messages coming from it. Some of those are not initiated by the software, but by the nodes.
