Hi All

I have been following this forum for a long time now.  And have learnt so much, so Thank you.

As of today I own 1 full bitcoin!

This has been a long term accumulation project for me (bought 0.1 a month for the last 10 months). The bear market has helped me achieve my goal of owning 1 full BTC.

In December 2017, I could have never imagined owning a full bitcoin.

It’s now locked on my ledger for the next few years, let’s see where we go.

You certainly represent an example of how smart planning is eventually brings results by taking advantage of this bear market. Instead of whining and crying about low price you did what smart people do at these moments, and that is investing. There is no doubt that you invested well, and also that you learn how security is important. Just make more then one backup of your seed words for every case and keep it in safe place ;)

Congratulations. Now lets just hope that that 1 bitcoin would be worth a lot more in the next few years. Now, I hope you don't give out enough personal information with that bitcointalk account of yours, as you definitely wouldn't want people in real life to know that you actually have 1 bitcoin(also knowing that it could be worth a lot more in x amount of years); unless you'd want people you know to ask you to lend them money or something. Keep things lowkey.

incremental buying is always the best strategy in bitcoin in my experience if you are not a day trader. and specially when you are investing your extra cash into bitcoin. monthly investment is one of the more common strategies that investors use when it comes to bitcoin. that way you don't have to worry about the daily fluctuations and manipulations or even  the drama anymore.

Great! That's definitely what I would go for if I was in your situation. It would be always best to keep out personal information on your account; juuuust to be extra sure.

It's a milestone for majority to own one full bitcoin. Congratulations to you and it's inspiring to see someone that shares his strategy though it's popular for most but for other newbies it isn't.

Good job on making a Full Bitcoin! It's nice to see this kind of thread that somehow, it's like a success thread which could create newcomers in here be inspired and join the forum.

Let the ball rolling and just saving up at the side. Very effective, it's what I'm doing with the stock market in our country. I think combined with careful considerations with the current market prices could eventually be beneficial. Like for example, spreading your invested cash with different kinds of coins, but that's just trading in general. Both things are great in my opinion.

Long term hodl is the best strategy now, and can be done without in-depth technical abilities. Knowledge of bitcoin fundamentals would suffice for hodlers. Your prolonged accumulation period suggests you have learnt along the way. Good luck.

It's great to know the despite having a continious bear market since the beginning of 2018, you haven't lost your optimism. Otherwise, I have seen a lot of newbies crying foul over the price point and asking when the price will start moving back to bull regime.

The path you have taken is mainly suggested by a lot of financial experts and is known as "SIP - Systematic Investment Plan". I've personally lost a lot of confidence in bitcoin, compared to alts, but even I wouldn't sell my last BTC. It's a good starting point simply because it is the mainstream crypto. So you started from the right place. Leave it on your ledger and never sell or trade.

Congratulation for you success in the Game ..  But my worry  is that we all want to have great success like you do but you never explain the Strategy you used .. Please can you let  me know the strategy You used to gain your full 1 bitcoin  !!

What is astonishing is that you didin't scare off of the bear market and even more you continue to buy and buy to fulfill your purpose to own 1 bitcoin. especially if one doesnt have a lot of disposable income.

I am involved in crypto since January and the most I have held at any
one time was 0.72BTC, of course I have spent some since then.

Owning 1BTC is such an achievement and is a target for everyone

Very courageous decision there, owning a one full bitcoin is not an easy task because the bear market have really hit the entire community and only smart foks take such decision you are among the smartest in the network because while others lament on the bear market you took your time to invest up to 1bitcoin and stocking it for the future.

Remember to not sell your 1 Bitcoin because one day it may be worth a hole lot more then it currently is.

Congratulations with your first Bitcoin. I hope you store it on a save place. I remember when I got my first Bitcoin, that was also a big thing for me. And when I later started to buy some altcoins, I always made sure to do that with new money. So I still keep my very first bitcoin in my ledger nano hardware wallet.

That's great. This situation can look like good opportunity for investing cause the price is much lower than it was a year ago. Hope that we will see how bitcoin touch its previous ATH again, everything would have more sense then. Having one whole unit looks better than having just some amount of it.
This forum is a place where we all should share our experience, knowledge, where we can discuss about bitcoin and other cryptos. Sometimes it looks like there is nothing useful that you can find here anymore, I am happy to see that you had good experience and benefits by being a member.

Taking advantage on the bear market is been a great idea and thats the price of your perseverance of owning 1 full bitcoin.Some other people are worried on the current market situation  but you took it positively.Your such a real bitcoiner mate..such an inspiration.

What can I say!!!. This just proved that with perseverance, we can really own 1 full BTC in our lifetime  ;D. I remember a lot of members complaining that it's hard to have at least 1 BTC. But the problem is that they don't know how to save and accumulate. They almost thinks of buying it one time, and they never realized that you can do it buy purchasing small amounts and it due time you can reach your goal of 1 BTC. Congrats, job well done!!!

That's a good investment of yours, just keep it and don't make some things that can make your bitcoin disappear. I just hope that you could still earn more than that and that is good you handle to own 1 full bitcoin in terms of bitcoin is in dips right now. I've also already earned more than 1 btc now if I am not using it, but I need my bitcoin especially when emergency needs I withdraw it so I can't make it to have full bitcoin, anyways, congratulations!

Congratulations! That is really a big achievement coz not everyone can own a full bitcoin. It's a good thing that you keep it on a hardwallet coz there are so many hackers nowadays. I earned more than 1 bitcoin but used it on emergency purposes happened last year. Anyway, i wish you a goodluck and hope you still earn more than that!

Not many can say they hold 1 bitcoin because it is hard for most to keep them and not sell when the price just keeps going lower and lower every month for the past 10 months.
You are a true holder if you can stay true to the course and accumulate more when people are selling theirs to pay off their bills or had taken out loans to buy their bitcoin when it costed them more to do so.

At first i congratulate you that you have become owner of 1 Bitcoin from trade in the bearish market. Actually the intelligent traders are still trade by implementing their merits and research. If you locked your account for next few years, Bitcoin can fullful your goals if it reach your target price like $20k again.

One of the reasons why I want the Bitcoin price to go back to it's all time high, is for people like yourself to be rewarded for your efforts and determination. I bought my first bitcoins when the price was about $400 and people were saying that I was crazy to waste money on fake internet money. Those same people are now begging me to help them to buy bitcoins while the price is low.  ;D ;D ;D

I guess you invested your money and keep buying the dips well I've been on here since 2017 and I've not been able to gather up to 0.5 Btc I'm not an investor of Btc but I thought I could earn a lot from airdrops and bounties ,till date things haven't been going the way I planned I jut hope I will make more than 1 Btc someday

you seem to have bag held and lost a lot of money in shitcoins that you have started thinking bitcoin is the same as all of those useless tokens you were bad holding.
no dude, it is different. they lost their value because they were useless and people were only interested in them to make profit and when that ended they all got rid of their bags. with bitcoin, there is always usages whether you know them or not. and that means it will always keep its value and not just that, it will rise up too.

Way back to 2013 i remember the day when i invested my savings to crypto for buying first bitcoin with profit. Try to invest your BTC for getting more btc. As i can see you also have ledger hardware wallet which i prefer as the safest method for storing my cryptocurrencies.

nope i simly stopped believing in bitcoin and the bitcoinfixation since end of 2017 and it got confirmed.

It was very logical not to buy bitcoin in 2017 when there was an aggressive growth. I understand you because the price is now much lower and buy bitcoin can bring a good profit in the next couple of years. I note that you are a fellow that bought his parts and thereby reduce the risk of losing money !

I have seen also the same stories here.
He bought bitcoin at a very low price like $350 and he did keep 2 of it.
Said he will go back after 2 years and will just bury the flash drive where the private keys is at.
I dont really know what happened to that guy but I am guessing he already withdrew it.

This is some good way too. Try to forget it for now and maybe you will find yourself rich in 3 to 5 years.  ;D

Well, congratulations on your first time 1 full bitcoin. I hope that you can have more bitcoin and send it your locked ledger wallet again. I wonder how long you want to save it in the ledger? Be careful to safe because the market still not unstable and I hope that you don't have to panic especially if the market moves to the lower price because you want to save it for a long time from now.

Whatever your approach to crypto and investments, I hope you all achieve your goals and achieve the financial freedom we all desire.

After getting so much from this forum and its members I felt I should give something back. So if you would indulge me, I’m going to put down some of my thoughts in regards to my outlook and strategies in this crypto/financial world. For you more experienced members, you probably know all of this already and it has probably been posted many times. But, this is aimed at any noobs who may stumble across this thread.

Just to be clear this is not financial or investment advice, just my thoughts and opinions.

So where should you begin? To me this is obvious now, but it wasn’t when I FOMO’d into crypto in Dec 17.

Education

If you are just getting into crypto now, please do your research first. Spend at least a month reading and learning before you put any money into the eco system. Yes, it’s not sexy, but I must of lost .2 BTC just by messing around not knowing what I was doing.

You need to understand what bitcoin and fiat (money) actually are. Bitcoin is so much more than just a get rich quick scheme and fiat has its own issues. I’m not going to spell it out here, but you will have a lightbulb moment.

Yes, In doing this research you may miss a pump, but in the long term you will gain so much more than what you missed out on. And it could go the other way, you could get in at a lower price.

Where can I get this crypto education you ask? (there are so many places, but this is where I got some of mine)

1.   Right here – read, read, read then ask.

2.   Books: The Bitcoin Standard, The Internet of Money, Bitcoin for Dummies, Cryptoassets.

3.   Podcast channels: Crypto 101, Let’s talk Bitcoin, The Bad Crypto Podcast, The Crypto street Podcast, Off the Chain, Rekt Podcast. (Made
        my work commute a learning experience)

4.   YouTube: I never really have time to sit down and watch YouTube, day job and all that. But I did watch CrytoDad on how to set up
        an Ledger Nano. I'm sure there are some great channels out there.

5.   Twitter: @Apomliano, @aantonop, @cz_binance, @TheCryptoDog, @Tradermayne, @crypTobanger, @Satoshilite and of course
        @officialmcafee (love him).

6.   Places like Coinmarketcap.com

7.   Google

The list is endless, but that would be a good start.

Security

Learn what OPSEC and PERSEC is and apply it!!!!!!

Don’t keep anything on exchanges. They will all, in my opinion, eventually get hacked. If you don’t hold your keys, you don’t hold your crypto. (Google this statement)

If you can, buy a hardware wallet before buying your first crypto. If you don’t, you may never get around to buying a wallet and one day you may wake up and your exchange is gone, with your crypto. Wouldn’t that be sad after doing all this work. At the time of writing, a Ledger Nano S is around £54/$65. I know to some, this is a lot of money. And I know you would rather buy your first Bitcoin with that money. But trust me on this, get one!

There are other wallets out there – again educate yourself. (And always buy direct from the manufacturer, forget eBay and amazon).

Seed words, Seed words, Seed words – find out what they are and how to keep them safe! Did I mention Seed words.

Use 2 factor authentication wherever you can.

I even use a different email account with 2FA for my crypto activity.

Ok, so know that you have a basic understanding of Crypto (and believe in the tech) and know how to be safe, it’s time to pull the trigger.

Strategy (only my thoughts, more experienced people here will have their own ideas, so don’t take this as gospel)

This is where it gets difficult!

You want to be a trader? DON’T – if trading is going to be your main strategy – you WILL lose! Maybe in a few months you can give it a go for fun. But in my opinion, never trade with more than 10% of your stack and only 3% to 5% of that on each trade. And definitely don’t trade on Arthur’s exchange for at least another 6 months. (I’m not even going to name the exchange here, as I don’t even want you to go looking for it). And only trade the higher timeframes 4hours and above and understand all the different order types (if you don’t know what this means you are definitely not ready)

So what was my strategy to achieve my goal.

Accumulation and averaging.

Start with a target. Let’s say you would like a quarter of a bitcoin – i.e 0.25 BTC.

Divide that over say 6 to 12 months. (for this example I’m going to use 6 months)

That means you need to buy around 0.045 BTC a month. ($150 a month at current prices)

Some months your 0.045 BTC will cost you a little less and the next month possibly a little more. But after 6 months you will have achieved your goal of 0.25 BTC with the lowest possible risk. Yes, there still is risk. It can go both ways. It’s about managing that risk.

Now put it on a ledger and forget about it.

You can adjust the figures above to meet your own goals, but the principle stays the same.

Only use extra cash that you can afford to lose. This is very important, this could all go to $0, but who knows how high it could go. You don’t want to have to sell your crypto after all this hard work and dedication, because you have to pay back a loan etc. and miss out on your end goal. In 10 years’ time you don’t want to be kicking yourself saying, I wish I still had that 0.25 BTC.

Only after you have achieved your goal, would I say it is time to start looking at alts and trading. But this should always be with new cash.

Lock that first Bitcoin away and come back to it in 5 to 10 years.

Now an added caveat, I don’t think you should be putting all your disposable income into crypto. I have also been buying stocks, gold and paying into a pension.

Don’t put all your eggs into one basket.

The barriers of entry to these other types of investments has come down over the last few years and there are cheap apps that can help you (do your own research).

I have followed the same strategy for these types of investments.

Now please don’t think that I assume everyone can afford all of this, but it can all be scaled down. Take your disposable income and invest a certain % in stocks, certain% in bank deposits, certain % in crypto etc. etc.

It’s all about planning and risk management. In a few years, I hope you will have your reward.

Where to buy

This has changed so much over the last year, but again do your own research. But wherever you buy, get it off the exchange and onto you hardware wallet.

A few final thoughts

•   Ignore the noise, you have chosen to by Bitcoin. So just do it. If the price goes up - great, you are making money. If the price goes
        down – great, next month’s purchase with be cheaper. Keep accumulating till you have achieved your goal. And then in 5 years who
        knows what it’s worth.

•   When you transfer your first bitcoin to your hard wallet, check, check and check again. If you make a mistake its gone. Only send Bitcoin
        to a Bitcoin wallet.

•   Know the difference between BTC and BCH – it’s not the same thing! Other individuals will try tell you different.

•   Don’t watch the charts all day, you will lose your mind. You have a life, live it.

•   Write down everything you do and learn from your mistakes.

•   Be kind to others and share your knowledge.

•   It’s not all doom and gloom – it’s an opportunity!

Thanks for taking the time to read this. It’s not a sure fire way of getting rich, its just how I am trying to navigate my way through financial life. It could work or it could all come crumbling down around me. I’m just trying to give myself the best chance. It’s your choice and its on you.

I’m sure I have missed so much, but my brain is fried and I'm not a writer. I hope the more experienced members on this forum will add value to this and I hope they do, either positive or negative, I don’t care. As long as it gets the noobs thinking.

That’s a great story of success and its good to hear that you achieve your goal. You must be rich for buying .1BTC monthly and a great risk taker of course but the good thing is, that hard work paid off and you can now earn more profit for the next 2years. I also want to be like you, thank your for inspiring us.

A good step is to spend your money every month for 10 month to get 1BTC, this is a way of futures investing and I really appreciate the effort for that. Because with this bear market you can still consistently buy without worrying about anything, the optimism and high enthusiasm that I get from you. Hopefully your hard work so far will get sweet results in the future.

Why do I said that ?
Many people said that crypto is volatile investment but you still believe on it and it lead you into this situation, PROFIT !

Salute your planning that when people like us were struggling hard on deciding what to do, you just kept it low on your mind and dedicated yourself towards positively gaining more and more BTC for less. Just curious (if you don't have any objections to disclose) what values did you gain your coins exactly for? I mean, can you tabulate it in 2 columns showing Month name on one side and price you bought BTC0.1 for in that month on the other. Congratulations on your wise decision, just hodl and don't gamble away your coins even if you see opportunities as it took a lot of time to gain this level.

You started buying bitcoin at the price of 14000 USD or more if i am correct.

Since you purchased little little every month, so I am interested in knowing how much this BTC cost you?
One more question, every month what is your reaction on BTC price? Will  you get happy ,that you are getting cheap or sad that your investment is not appreciated or even lost value ?

This is an excellent achievement and I hope one day I can do the same too. I want to start accumulating also Bitcoin while the price is low before the 2020 halving comes and there comes a nice bitcoin rally to boot. I haven't yet got any Bitcoin because I have mainly been trading or holding altcoins. I wish though I had Bitcoin because then I would have been rich in 2017/2018, instead, I lost everything. So now I will try to get some Bitcoin and lock it up in Nexxo and get a loan that I then can use that to trade with again so that once the bull run comes I will have collateral in Bitcoin that can unlock real long term profits for me in the years to come. I am getting old now, am 53 years old and I need to rest from all the stress I am under. I still think Bitcoin is the way forward.

Which currently puts me at a 40% loss.

But as I said earlier - Lets see where we are in 5 years. In my mind, I look at it that 1 BTC = 1BTC.

I'm quite sure OP is saying the truth and he doesn't need any picture to explain everything. A simple common sense will tell you that he is really talking with honesty. Crypto market is a very complex thing that you don't wanna mess because once you mess you will have a hard time waiting for the same thing to happen. OP is sure not lucky, he is pro IMHO.

Man congrats, I never had more than 1 bitcoin in my wallet, it's usually sent to exchanges or other things like that to trade it, and I just hold altcoins most of the time.
Eventually that 1 bitcoin is going to skyrocket or tumble back down, but I see the price going back up in the future, hopefully you have 2 bitcoins by 2 years. :)

Reading posts like this is a breath of fresh air. The way you jumped into bitcoin was wise.

Don't forget that 1 bitcoin is really no small feat. It's a decent slice of the pie, especially if we get to mass adoption.

That's the point why Bitcoin probably hit more than $50k in the upcoming years. Until now, Bitcoin has executed that it's possible. Imagine, you own 1 full bitcoin. A lot of early adopter own more than 1 or 1k or 10k or even 100k. Some has been lost or wasted by somehow. I assume there will be only 20 Million Bitcoin in circulation (Shouldn't it be less?). Provided that everyone own 1 bitcoin, hence a lot of people will think about purchasing bitcoin. Guess what? You are lucky you own 1 full BTC. Good luck to you.

If you scroll back to page 2 of this thread, I have shared my strategy (Accumulation and averaging). Please have a read of that. Also in there are my thoughts on trading.

I'm sorry you had a bad start and lost your BTC, but so did I. You have learnt invaluable lessons with your losses. Think of it as paying for your education.

Set a (achievable) goal and take it step by step. Even if its 0.1 BTC in the next year. When you achieve it you will feel great.

You will have to be focused and resilient. 

It was not easy, not at all. It was a long term plan. I had to cut back on many things, freeing up some disposable income. Many times in the last year, i wanted a new phone or have another takeaway dinner. But i didn't.

Forget about "sexy" trading and get rich quick ICO's.

Congrats. Very few people will ever be able to own a full bitcoin. In several more years, it might be impossible for new investors to accomplish that. Keep it in cold storage and hold on tight!

One thing about this thread. Call me paranoid, but I never tell people how much bitcoin I own. It can put a target on your back. It may not matter today at $3,000 per coin, but at higher prices it certainly might. Just something to think about. ;)

He clearly stated that he bought it for 10 consecutive months, I adore people like him as he believes that bitcoin will deliver somehow, let see after those years that he intended to hold before he will going to sell or use it, if his journey will bring him success or if he can take that long just incase bitcoin rally up again and meet another high this year or the next one.

I never expected you'd disclose them, this shows how dedicated you are towards buying (investing in) BTC and holding it for a very long time. Thanks for those numbers, you've now set an example of what money management and risk control is. Won't say "sorry for your loss" kinda words here as it'll be a disrespectful statement, but highly appreciate how you managed to keep accumulating it while others were just thinking on buying it even when BTC was cheap (I know it's cheaper now, but not to worry as BTC always repeated its history). We've got a very long way to go, General! And that statement in bold 1 BTC = 1 BTC is one of my favorite ones.

In a way, you're lucky, you could have bought it all at once the first time you decided to buy, and then it would have cost you a lot more. I don't know if my mind's calculations are correct but if you bought 0.1 Bitcoin every month, then the cost of 1 Bitcoin should be around 6k - 8k to you. Or even less, depending on the actual date you started this plan. In any case, the only thing you need to do now is to have patience, Bitcoin and crypto, in general, will rise again. I would actually advise you to keep buying 0.1 Bitcoin per month if you're able to, that would lower the total price in which you bought, if Bitcoin's price stays lower than the average price you've paid, of course.

Wow that’s  really an achievement congratulations mate,i have been learnt that strategy recently so now aside from my folio who’s i have been keeping for more than a year now,i have bought small amount of bitcoin every payday for the future of my children,this amount will be theirs whenever they become ready for cryptocurrency hoping to gather atleast 2 bitcoins each of them before they go to college(maybe 6-8 years from now)

I love to read such stories of people who were able to achieve something with the help of crypto. It's really great and very motivating. I also set myself certain goals and go to them and maybe soon I will reach my main goal and will also be able to write a post here on the forum about my success.

just for motivation, maybe if you want income that is more likely we can do daily trading, if we already have enough capital it is better to use it as best as possible by following the trade, if we do not like a business challenge maybe participating in daily trading is less suitable . then monthly investment is the right choice.

Trading is indeed the best way to earn huge profits here in the crypto industry but the problem is the market siutation  .

this new season is different from the previous in which trading isnt really good to do because all coins are in dip  . yes you can buy cheap coins but after some tick of the clock , the prices of other coins do also drop lower .

I agree. This kind of inspirational story is everyone wanted to find out that it is effective to take the risk with bitcoin. It is a big goal that everyone want to achieve. That's actually a nice move mate. Compared to last year's price, Bitcoin today is fairly cheap and with that, congratulations in achieving at least 1 Bitcoin. If you are looking to make a profit, always set a price goal. You might get greedy enough to miss a good price.

There are many people who are not using this opportunity of buying at such a cheap price since they lost money when BTC dumped but little do they know that the price dump can be used as an opportunity to recover the money they lost. I am myself trying to collect as much BTC as I can since I know that bitcoin will surely rise in price in a year or two. The investments I make now can yield higher profits later.
Anyway, keep your bitcoin safe and try to avoid such risks by publicly speaking about your bitcoin balance.  ;D

not all are lucky like you OP. Yes the market price now may seem to be achievable from anybody. But, the market price now for the poor like me may still be high. I will just wait and see what will happen to bitcoin in the near future. If it will gone good then congrats in advance OP.

I think you will be able to see bitcoin having a high price for the next few years, you buy when the price of bitcoin decreases and for the future you will see bitcoin reaching 20k, keep holding to get a better profit.

I would say more - keep hodling but not only - continue your acumullation plan - maybe you will be able to collect another one full bitcoin before next bullrun and when that happen you will be even happier man ;-)

Congratulation. I know the feeling. A full BTC is really a milestone and I like your strategy. You were persistent and you clearly have strong desire. If you can wait for years, BTC is the wonderful long term investment. Crypto makes people rich instantly, can make them poor, also. So in this stage, BTC is still a gamble. but it is gaining popularity and becoming stronger.
