Title: All About the Bitcoin Forum: A 3 Part Series on How to Use the Forum
Post by: CoinClarity on February 16, 2019, 10:02:38 AM
Hello guys and girls,

I am a news writer for the crypto website Coin Clarity (https://coinclarity.com/), and this is my first post to the Beginners & Help section.

I've been involved with bitcoin since 2013 and a long-time forum user. Although I didn't formally register until 2017, I've been using the forum for various purposes quite a bit over the last 5 years.

In a series of 3 articles I compiled pretty much all the information I could think of that was relevant about the forum for new users: an explanation of how it works, what the rules are, how to find what you are looking for, how Activity, Trust and Merit work, and how to be productive with your time here.

Here are the articles and what each one contains:

Part 1 - a basic overview of the forum (https://coinclarity.com/the-bitcoin-forum-part-1-of-3/):

- the history of the forum
- links to the forum's "greatest hits" (popular threads)
- how ranks & merits work
- forum sections & their contents
- moderation & guidelines
- the Trust system

Part 2 - how to find what you're looking for & be a successful member (https://coinclarity.com/the-bitcoin-forum-part-2-of-3/):

- how to get started
- forum rules
- boards for educational purposes
- boards for trading
- boards for promoting your project
- boards for signature and bounty campaigns

Part 3 - the interviews (https://coinclarity.com/the-bitcoin-forum-part-3-of-3/):

- an interview with a moderator (Flying Hellfish (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=79608))
- an interview with a scam buster (Phinnaeus Gage (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=24792))

Your feedback is welcomed, and I am willing to entertain any and all questions you might have about the articles or the forum itself... I'll try to answer them the best that I can! Thanks.

You have made a great grasp of the Bitcointalk forum and most of the key feature's to get started with it. Your information also contains some do's and dont's for the new forum members.

There are already some guides and information thread related to the forum and its development but you have overall made a great thread with all the info which anyone entering the forum for first time should read. It would not only give him a bunch of info about the forum but the reader would also know the importance of the forum in the crypto world.

I read most of your 3 page article, and the most interesting part for me was the interview with some of the most famous, Old and trustworthy members of Bitcointalk like Flying Hellfish (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=79608) and Phinnaeus Gage (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=24792)

Part 3 - the interviews (https://coinclarity.com/the-bitcoin-forum-part-3-of-3/):

- an interview with a moderator (Flying Hellfish (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=79608))
- an interview with a scam buster (Phinnaeus Gage (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=24792))

This seems to me as motivational interviews for the other forum member to get tips from some of this epic members of the forum!

I saw your request for help (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5104894.0) a few days ago and I was expecting your content would be published somewhere on this forum. Btw, a thumb up for your work, part 3 is quite interesting.

Nice start.

If you want to go into the merit system in a bit more detail, I posted an article on my merit source blog.
https://talkmerit.com/the-source/index.php/articles/the-bitcoin-talk-merit-system

It may be time to revisit that blog, as I haven't updated it for quite  while.

Good work, you obviously put a lot of effort into the three-piece article. And it was a good, educative read, particularly part three.
And a nice way to get, well deserved traffic on your site.
I would be looking out for more.

A job well done with great effort. It would be much more appreciated for newbies for including the link in each respective topic. In that way it will be easier for newbies to quickly access the thread and won't take them much time or make it clickable.

- the history of the forum (Link Here)
- links to the forum's "greatest hits" (popular threads) (Link to the List of popular threads)
- how ranks & merits work (Link Here)
- forum sections & their contents (Link Here)
- moderation & guidelines (Link Here)
- the Trust system (Link Here)
I know, I demanded too much and will take some time to gather the links. I know you have a clickable link in your website but it also redirect you to back to Bitcointalk Unofficial Forum Rules.

You're right, except its all on the same url and I don't know how to use the "#section" thing to direct people to a certain section of the page. Anyway, thanks for the compliment and the feedback.

That's called an anchor link. It's pretty easy to learn, you can Google HTML anchor link. I think you'll understand the basic in a short amount of time and you can start doing it on your own.

You can also use the anchor in this forum even though the code is a bit different. But the idea is pretty similar.

Good post, good idea and most importantly good intent. You put in work into this good compilation and you rightly so deserve applauds for it,and also choosing the perfect section to post it,you kinda made a summarized version of everything, using what the forum offers as well as iconic threads and those that embody rules and regulations on the forum.
You've done a very good job with this effort, keep it up is all i must say

Nicely done OP. I tend to be less lenient to go to external sites to check on information that could be placed on the forum as posts (some simply post a link to a post on an external site), but the result in your case is informative and nicely broken down and laid out, so I went through to reading all three articles, which I found rather well explained.

Hey, thanks for the feedback guys. It's much appreciated. I know that a lot of this stuff is spread out across the site but I wanted to make a rather central collection point for all the info that (from what I gather) people want to know about the most.

I don't delve much into mining or development sections, which to me still functions are the brain of the forum, but I should probably check it out more. I tend to get too caught up reading through the drama in Meta, Scam Accusations and Reputation! Shame on me. It's just so fun though.
