With the success of their last documentary about the ever surging interest in cryptocurrencies Banking on bitcoin was made for those who were wanting to learn just how bitcoin was created and how it was doing 7 years after the first transaction was made. As another thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5111192.0) was created about the netflix feature film.
I decided this news would be more intriguing to those who are in the other half of the spectrum
The alternative coin market of cryptocurrencies.

Netflix has announced they are working on a film/8 part documentary about the mysterious dark side of cryptocurrency. Well because it is in the background of the king of crypto.
There was alot of fallout in these alt coin markets due to the prices of some dropping to 95% of their value in just 6 months after those who purchased them causing people to be financially ruined.

They say this documentary will be released in 2020.

This is going to be interesting. I can sort of already guess what scenes are going to be shown.

1. Person X invested in some altcoins at the beginning of 2017.
2. Person X earned huge amounts of money due to the bull run.
3. Person X invested a lot more in the end of 2017.
4. As the price continues to go down, person X bought a lot of dips.
5. Now in 2019, person X is now financially screwed.

2020 I have a whole year to wait to watch something that happened a few years ago.

There's a lot of things to be shown to be honest. What about Bitconnect? I don't know if this has been documented before, but they might go for Bitconnect as it was popular. Altcoin is way too broad, probably they will only cover some general stuff or something very specific, one of them must be what happen in the bear market. There's no way this won't be covered because most people buy them with the hope to get rich quickly.

Hopefully they can stay neutral and focus on facts, not having some hidden agenda like some media out there.

i think this can go either way. it depends mainly on how realistic the people making this documentary are and how important facts are for them compared to unrealistic hype. if thy get caught up in the advertisement and the hype we may end up seeing a misleading documentary instead.

i also hope they don't focus ONLY on price! there is a lot more to altcoins than just price despite what 99% of the pump and dump ones are showing us.

But I wonder why that article mention about PACCoin and not with the popular coins like Ethereum, Ripple, or other else in the top 10 positions? Or they want to promote those coin to the public? If yes, then it will be interesting to wait for the launch and watching that documentary.

Yeap. I hope they would find the perfect balance between showing the positives and showing the negatives. Showing slightly a bit of the money some people made(not too much to make too much hype), and showing the humongous amounts of scams as well. So people who are willing to enter the cryptocurrency space wouldn't get too turn off-ed, and at the same time, not too overconfident on the potential money they could make.

This can be a very educational one and one that can honestly present the things that happened, are happening and even those that can happen yet in the altcoins world. I am sure that there can be some discomforting truths or realities but then again if we will not deal with these challenges then we can never look forward. There had been many people who had been burned by the unprecedented fall of altcoins values and many were destroyed financially...this is one reality that is open for the whole world to see. This can be serving as a good warning to all of us and yet can also be putting us to hope for the future. I am looking forward for this documentary of Netflix next year.

I got a mixed feeling about this documentary, it could be about how alt coin ruining people's life and how unpredictable the alt coin or it can be how crypto currencies change the payment transaction system, I think this will give a lot of different reaction, if the documentary focus on the downfall in 2018 then, it will makes crypto reputation falling down

I like this point because I do see potential in the alt coin market and not a complete bitcoin maximalist.
You got to stay optimistic or thinking about how your portfolio is doing every minute of every day will swallow you up whole.

..I will going to wait for the next film of documentary to be introduced..how i hope that they will give justice to the true facts and events on the side of the crypto world..thus, they will balance the positive and negative sides that happens in the crypto world..This will be very interesting and educational especially to those who are new and beginners of crypto..

Interesting that they are doing an alternative crypto documentary. The
one they did on Bitcoin mush have been received well.

I would imagine they cover the early days of alt coins, Litecoin, Zcash
and Ethereum and cover the secrecy aspects of Monero, Dash and others
and they will probably give a slot to Ripple and then go on to cover the
ICO frenzy.

It will certainly be interesting, there will be a lot to get through in this
documentary, a lot to cover.

I just hope this documentary won't cause people to change their mind on Bitcoin. Though, it nice how the movie industry is creating awareness of cryptocurrency in their own part.
Netflix is huge and this means more bigger audience are been exposed to Bitcoin.

people who are changing their mind about bitcoin because of something they see on TV (or on netflix in this case) would also change their mind by seeing something random anywhere else as long as the advertisement bullshit is strong enough so documentary wouldn't change anything about that.

"Mysterious dark side of cryptocurrency" well, it's quite true everything has it bad side and good side but I wonder how bad they might paint this "mysterious dark side of Bitcoin".
A lot of people are really painting Bitcoin bad, I hope they won't use this as a means to fabricate more false story.

Media always try to broadcast the negative part of the cryptocurrency network which easily gains attention. Netflix should give a clear data about the need for Cryptocurrency as well the disadvantages and the risks associated with it. If then that'll get more users get into cryptocurrency usage. Now what they've planned seems to be truly something against the network.

no they wont do it . bitcoin is the most important crypto above all  . people wont forget that  alts wont be possible without bitcoin  .



maybe the directors of the movie is also a crypto enthusiast and he wants to share crypto to others by making such film  . i salute this them .

Documentary sounds quite boring to me. What about starting a sitcom like "How I met my Bitcoins".
This can be educational and comedic in nature, telling about risk ,scams and the precaution they need to take when they are dealing with crypto.

So, are they suppose to lie and just say that nothing happened in 2018? They need to show the pros and cons of entering this world. They can't just show the "good side" when everyone was making money in 2017 due to the bull run, they need to show not only that but also the bear market in 2018 (as well as the legit coins and also the countless scamcoins in the market) so that those who don't understand how this market works can get a better understanding of the crypto market.

But I don't think showing what happened in 2018 would be as bad as you think, if anything it'll warn newcomers to not invest recklessly their money, I doubt it would cause a new downfall or anything like that.

Crypto has to be one of the richest seams imaginable for documentarians. It has every shade of the human spectrum - greed, triumph, stupidity, desperation, crime. I'm surprised there hasn't been more content yet.

By the time it's out it's going to be hopelessly out of date. I guess most viewers probably won't care.

Hopefully with PAC they point out how it was a highly inflationary bitcoin clone rebranded as a scam, because that's what it was (is). I remember when the "new" PACcoin white paper came out, it had pictures of Dorian Nakamoto next to quotes by Satoshi.  ::)

Personally i love the way Netflix create their series so it would be interesting to see how this documentary about cryptocurrencies will be. All i hope is that this is not going to be one of those boring documentaries you find on Youtube about crypto and you dont understand anything. If they are going to create it in such a way that its going to look like a movie but during it they are also going to share info about cryptocurrencies thats going to be great,from my opinion. But for now,we dont know anything about this and the documentary will be launched only in 2020 so all we can do is wait for it.

Well that's another good way to reach out and educate people about crypto. Perhaps it's one step closer to mass adoption and to bring light to people's presumptions that btc is nothing but a scam. It seems the future is finally favoring the market eh?

Wondering about the balance of this documentary, who's going to be the resource person? If everything will be based alone with the medias for sure it will just bring again negativity regarding to this industry, but if the film will be more balanced for sure it will open the minds of those potential people who also wants to learned if what crypto is all about, and how they can be part of this growing industry.

Netflix is already very popular, and it's playing a more and more important part in cinema industry each year. Making a documentary on altcoins is probably a good idea. I didn't watch their documentary on Bitcoin, though, so I am not sure this one will be any good. If they focus on various shitcoins, this will be a shitumentary. But there are some interesting altcoin project most of the people don't know anything about, and helping people learn that cryptos are not just Bitcoin and its clones is a good goal. For now, though, the article is based only on some reddit posts and photos, which is definitely not enough evidence to even say that the movie will be made.

This is very interesting for us to watch later, including for beginners or those who are just joining the cryptocurrency world because it looks like this will show images of altcoins at the beginning being in crypto and also the mysterious side.

As I watched the trailer of Banking on Bitcoin, I found out that Bitcoin nowadays was very popular in terms of digital currency in the entire world.
Where it is given that it can be use for good and illegal purposes. So if ever this will happen and the Netflix will make a documentary about in cryptocurrency I think there is a big impact to all people in the entire world. And for sure there are lot of community here will wait for this exciting documentary about in Bitcoin thru banking concepts.

This sounds like an interesting mine serie, I would like to see. I hope it will include stories about scam ICO and other stories about people who got scam buying into an hype.
But also tell some of the good stories about good project and some of all the interesting crypto communities you can find.

It will be so good if Netflix will make another documentary about the altcoin side of cryptocurrencies! For sure it will help the community to grow more, also crypto field will be more known to the whole world. Yes. I believe it would be more popular if it were a mini series. One for per alt coin which have made their mark in the crypto world.
Because a one shoot documentary wouldnt be enough time to detail this vast subject.

I saw the Banking on Bitcoin. Was quite neutral and very interesting.
The altcoin documentary could go in any direction. There are many very good pro arguments and there are maaany very bad arguments (and projects). I think Netflix will present both sides and try to be as neutral as possible. So I am eager to see it.

It sounds interesting. I like the idea of making a documentary series about crypto. It could bring knowledge to people, how crypto works and how it could affect them. But I hope this would not only bring negative mindset to people about cryptocurrency. Also hoping that this documentary would have positive review.

Oh well, that's interesting. Altcoins behind bitcoin, they never beat the king. I guess, with the thousands altcoins created. They will just air and featured the most popular  altcoins, how they rooted and what is the future of altcoins. I never watched that Banking on Bitcoin on netflix before. But I heard they've interviewed some experts and enthusiasts there.

Cryptocurrency will be more famous as plenty of people can watch that documentary. Also this is good for the beginners to acquire more knowledge about cryptocurrencies. Countless people will view that i'm pretty sure about that.

If Netflix should make a documentary about the altcoin side of crypto it would drive lots of awareness to cryptocurrency especially Bitcoin, which might be good or bad depending on how the documentary turns out.

It would bring a broad awareness to the cryptocurrency world is not just all about bitcoin but alot more wide range of others.
And it being on this media outlet it just might make it to the oscars as I have seen some productions being only featured on there being thrown into the spotlight for everybody in the films and arts community to aware of it.

No such thing as bad publicity they say. But with the stand of crypto today, I think there are more positive elements to point out than there are negative. Imagine if this documentary was released just a few years after the introduction of Bitcoin. That would've been a disaster and crypto might not be as big as it is today. Looking forward to watching the documentary still!

this documentary will add interest both from people who already aware and people who don't any idea yet, focusing with the system / usage

Unless the docu is long enough (provided they make at least 8 eps) I think it would take a negative spin on the alt market. After all, these alts sprout up like mushrooms after rain, many just bringing investors and traders nothing but disappointments.

Besides a huge amount of altcoins and scamcoins from 2017 all dark web stuff still can be considered as a "dark side" of cryptocurrencies. I bet that in that documentary all cryptocurrencies will be blamed and considered as an instrument of committing crimes. No matter if it if financial crimes with different Ponzi schemes, hacks, grug, gun or adult traffic.

It should be interesting. Netflix provides quite good content. True, not always. But the topic of cryptocurrency is uncharted land. Especially for those people who have not been interested in this before. If Netflix approaches making a film without any reason and shows different sides, then many people will be able to learn about cryptocurrencies much more than they know now and it is quite possible that they will want to learn more about cryptocurrencies after watching the movie. But if Netflix only shows how thousands of people went bankrupt or lost money, then this will certainly be a negative film in relation to cryptocurrencies.

That's good but in my opinion, this is the right time released the documentary so those who have left the industry will be motivated to come back again unless the documentary shows the negative aspects of investing in cryptocurrency.

These documentaries don't work because the price is too volatile. It needs to be made and released within a few months rather than after a year, otherwise it will be out of date already

I heard BBC was also create a documentary about ICO scam in crypto since 2017 but up to now there weren't update about it, they must be finding it hard since the users are anonymous.

It's probably going to turn into how the Bank of England's cryptocurrency release did (a document saying they were going to make something and then finally thankfully didn't). I would be happy if they did though in some ways. Imagine if everyone pulled their money out of banks and had it on the chain and epople can finally know how much money is actually in circulation and something can happen about the issue with the banks there (3-6 banks have a huge market share that's so huge it's rediculous).


I thought they were making it about the 2017 bubble pop with ICOs and Bitcoin alike. They're already a year behind then at least before they've actually worked out there was one (probably - I mean it is Netflix after all).


I think it's probably going to be biased towards fiat with the fear of accidentally manipulating the markets. I suppose since it's so ong since then people can't blame a greater fall in bitcoin on them (which might have happened if they released it as we were still falling - especially if it came out just before we went below $6k - then they'd have some issues on their hands).

This is great! It will help a lot to promote cryptocurrencies worldwide. This can ba an educational video for people who wants to learn more about cryptocurrencies. I hope that Netflix will make a movie about Satoshi Nakamoto. They would assume the life of Satoshi Nakamoto and the reasons why he decided to make Bitcoin. Isn't it great?

Best ideas how Netflix want to promote altcoin and bitcoin for all their costumer and make bitcoin become popular transaction, when bitcoin raised to higher price many investor will get much profit later.

I guess it is only fair to also hear/see the other side of Crypto currencies, right? We cannot deny that loads of shitcoins were merely introduced as pump n dump coins and some Alt coins were produced to back scam ICOs. A lot of us have first hand experience of that and we were taken for a ride during the peak ICO period in 2016 and 2017.  ::)

Well it is a huge part of the crypto market, so sure. They may already include it in this upcoming one because how much is there actually to discuss about alts? ICOs may be almost completely irrelevant by 2020 though lol.

you are so funny but the story will not start from x 2017 and will not end in 2019 because the ICO market has been in existence before 2017 just that it was in 2017 that the bull run in the cryptocurrency market happened and at that 2017 become a remarkable year in cryptocurrency history. It will be a nice job by Netflix because the documentary will help to dig deep into the unravel side of the entire cryptocurrency and help our background knowledge about the cryptocurrency world and blockchain, we keep the wait 2020 is around the corner. ;D

And it's about time that people learn more about icos and what they're about. The ico market had suffered a lot because of people losing money mainly because they're not properly educated about icos. I agree that it's an essential part of crypto and a lot of good icos may come very useful in the future and deserve proper funding.

I hope it will be a documentary with real facts, showing both good and bad things about it. Not just some propaganda movie

It will be an interesting documentary without a doubt, i hope they will conduct an investigation series about the high end scam ICO and what happens after collecting the amount and whether they are using it wisely and other details, majority of the altcoins are losing their value from the initial price they had and it is difficult to maintain the project and some have closed their doors entirely because of that and hopefully it will be a good series.

You described the faith of new traders who joined after June 2017. The same story can be applied to stock market booms and a crypto market is just a tool for average people for getting rich quickly. Modifications can make the story more interesting: A person who bought during ATH in 2017 divorced and he is on the last step before attempting to suicide.

Better to see a lot of good side compared to the bad sides because it can help to grow the bitcoin value if the netflix create docimentary about bitcoin and yes they need to document the real and facts information and they need to study what is good puposes of having bitcoin before they release to the netflix because once they releass it they have big effect on us if it's either bad or good the only happen to the bitcoin because netflix now is popular.

Netflix has been characterized by making high quality documentaries, I only hope that it shows truthful information, that shows the reality, not the facts that we all know, like the bull run of 207-2018, many speculators and investors of the world of cryptocurrencies expect much More motivation for the market, a good documentary could awaken that feeling.

well, I am patiently waiting to see this documentary but 2020 is such a long time to wait. Whatever it is they want to put in that documentary, I believe is nothing new as we all know what is currently happening in the crypto space

I can see the positive side of this story. No matter what other people think about making a documentary but it’s clear that people will be more aware of bitcoin.

That's the point, only if they will make a reasonable documentary about altcoin in two phase of it existence. Though i have seen some of their documentary on other stuff and must say that, they are good in the two phase of any documentary. Hope they do no harm to the cryptocurrency because if they do it will cause more downfall of the current market bear.

That would be nice because Netflix has a lot of subscribers and watchers. Popularity will surely reach higher.

At first before they start creating films, why don't they accept bitcoin? If it become subject of their producers and they introduced it to people vial documentary film, why not to accept it? Well, let's forget it.
It's still good they are interedted in crypto world and create films but wish to see scifi movie where bitcoin is used, would be great to see movies where hackers use bitcoin instead of cards, let's develop a little bit and use future technologies.

Why would it take over a year for them to create a documentary? are they waiting for something that is missing in their documentary? Maybe they are waiting for Bitcoin to reach a million each just as predicted by Mcafee or they want to show Mcfee eating his dick in national tv, that will make a great sell for that documentary.

It would be good if they can be released TV series on whats on happening right now on the crypto world. But the documentary is still good because we can learn useful knowledge about altcoins. By the way, the blogger made a little mistake, He calls Bitcoin an altcoin.

Netflix documentary will definitely reach out to public for wider reach we should wait for the release and respond positive reviews for crypto documentary

I doubt that this film will be able to somehow change the situation on the cryptocurrency market. But I really believe in the growth of Bitcoin in 2021.
