Title: Voice chat with members
Post by: Jet Cash on February 22, 2019, 07:05:09 PM
I've managed to get the headset that I use with my mobile to work with Audacity on the notebook. This probably means that I can get it working with some of the chat clients. Is anyone interested in trying to work out how we can have voice chat between members here?

The idea is extra, but I am afraid that instead of discussing of the forum's work or crypto currencies the chat will turn to simple shit making. That's the result of all voice chats where I participated. Always appear someone who loose a fear or self control just because nobody see him and know him in face. People simply start arguing on other kind of topics such as religion and so on. So, such chat should be ruled by someone who will cut "not by the theme" participants or aggressors, or it should be created only for chosen members.

I would say Discord would be a good option for !

Source: https://discordapp.com/ (https://discordapp.com/)

You can use it easy and there is 2 options you can use it !

1. Download the Discord APP on your PC or on Mobile .

2. You also can just open the Discord in your Browser window and use it if you dont want to download the APP.

I am very happy with it.

I mean it's not a bad idea. I think you should try to limit the time for conversations though so it doesn't turn into a place fir people to have random arguments.

Like I've previously said, I speak a bit to fast and mumble my way through most of it so I'm not going to be good at testing ;D.

We should make a community DISCORD! Don't know how many of you have it, but its an amazing platform.

Lol, I don't know if I'd make a great conversationalist either, but I might give it a shot with Jet Cash just for the hell of it.  Unfortunately, I need to buy a new PC before I can even think about such a thing.  My damn hard drive bit the dust, and so I'm reduced to hen-pecking on my smartphone for now.

Jet Cash, I wish you were in the states.  Love to have coffee with you or something. I'll keep this thread in mind for when I finally do get a new computer.  Hopefully it'll be within two weeks or so.

Jet Cash, book a flight to Anchorage and ask The Pharmacist to meet you for that coffee... ;)

As for the topic, last time I had a voice chat with strangers on the intertubes was maybe 10 years ago and it didn't go well. But then again, I hate even conference calls, I can barely stand a 1-to-1 conversation over the phone. Some people are just not built for that stuff I guess.

The last time someone had a voice chat with members of the forum he ended up showing his little pecker on camera so. Aren't there any bars near you? Wanting to talk to strangers over the Internet is the cringiest/saddest thing ever.

Jet Cash is old-school mixed with a little modernity, and I'm not surprised he wants to verbally chat with some of the personalities here--you make it sound like a goddamn incel or MGTOW convention, and I don't see it as pathetic or sad.  It's actually a warm gesture on his part.

Man, I thought I was too cynical.  Can't keep up with you, brohonkey.

Edit:
Is that a Luke Cage type metaphor or something?   :o
Say what, now? I used to be a Power Man/Iron Fist fan and don't see the connection.  And no, I'm not gay for JC.  He just seems like he'd be an interesting person to have a chat with.

All homophobic kidding aside, I like Lafu's idea of having a dedicated discord channel for members of the forum.  I probably would never use it, I don't care for voice type chatting.  It's kind of telling that old-school forums still get a lot of members, but VOIP services have never gotten very popular.

I can barely stand a 1-to-1 conversation over the phone. Some people are just not built for that stuff I guess.

The only time I answer phone calls anymore is when it's my kids calling.  I can tell how much it's gong to cost me by the tone they use to say "hi papa."

For anyone interested to be apart of the discord community for Bitcointalk, I've made it here.

https://discord.gg/yu7XyW5

Hopefully, we can all have a good time here! Would be fun to see real-time chats.

For anyone that doesn't have discord, it's like a mixture between the old AIM chat and Teamspeak. It has areas where you can voice chat and just text chat with people, alongside private messages with people as well.

Here's a download link to discord - https://discordapp.com/ -- Not necessary to download though, as you can just use a web app if that's what you'd like.

I did set up a teamspeak server a while ago, and I tested that out in a hosting forum. It was great to chat with a few people using headphones, and at the same time I could work on some sites. I was going to move this over to Fit to Talk, and use it to discuss moderation and posting incentives, and one could have threads to discuss on the screen, and change them during the discussion. Unfortunately Teamspeak changed their licensing plans, and the project was not longer viable commercially.

I'd love to go back to travelling the world. Years ago, I had a girl friend in San Francisco, and I helped her to move to Tallahassee by driving a 30 foot U-Haul truck across America. She was reading for a psychology PhD at FSU. Unfortunately I've got a lot of problems to sort out as a result of my adventurous past life ( read - I've been a bad boy for too long ), and I've got  a load of asset recovery and disposal problems to sort out.

I too think discord will a be a good alternative or solution to address such voice connection's.

You could read a good article about discord on how do they handle the calls.

How Discord Handles Two and Half Million Concurrent Voice (https://link.medium.com/C9jPSEJkxU)

It seems a good start to me, but you should try creating a thread about it and let people post a POA (proof of authentication) in the thread with connected discord account. This will at least avoid scammer entering and ruine the conversation. I am saying this as you mentioned about following Bitcointalk rules in the welcome message.

Already one user with  username "Account Seller" already joined the community. Should w restrict the registrations based on some criteria?
Do we need to add local languages also?
Should we create sub board also?

Let see for a month how many people register and active there.

This feature should be added to the new bitcointalk forum. It should be suggested to theymos. I know that the intention is good so hoping for this to be consider. It should consider the HOWARD GARDNER's multiple intelligence with the different ways on how people learn. The forum does not have good support for.now but i know eventually it will be developed.

This is actually a very good idea, I’ll set something up like this when I get home!

Well that has put me off ever joining the community. I'll see if I can find an open source software package that I can host on my own server.

This person has already been banned. You're going to have issues like this within any community, just like we have here. I'll work something out to auto remove people with names of this sort.

Hope it doesn't put you off joining the community! First couple days are just going to be working out the kinks.

Within the day I'll setup a group that only allows you to chat within the community if you've verified your name on here on a thread, though I can't make this yet -- as I'm at work -- I'll without a doubt have it setup later to remove issues like this from arising again.

EDIT: I've made it, check here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5113519.new#new

Yes, such fake entries could happen often there if you do not modify your channel's security. But the plus point is, if you can use the settings better, there are some crazy options there to modify the user restrictions. One of which I recently came across was "Disabling the new users to send messages until X time interval has passed after they joined, so that they should first read the previous conversation for more knowledge"

Do we need to add local languages also?

We can if we get more traffic for specific language other than English.

Well that has put me off ever joining the community.

I think you should try it once, there are scammer in each online community and fud creator's too. But we could find some good solution to keep them away. ;D

It's been in development for several years now but we're still hoping it will come out, one day...

Not all of us - I like the current forum and its traditional layout. The trend to swishes and swashes, and tiered threads make it difficult to follow topics. Don't even start me on the destructive concept of upranking.

I'll try to have a go at the voice stuff later this week.
