Here is a video of a guy who bought Toyota Prius back in 2013 with 1000 BTC. If you could have waited for a bit, specially in 2017, we could have been a Lambo. Although in the video you will see the Prius side by side with his Lambo so I think this guy really did make a lot of money in bitcoin in 2017 as well. He also talk about the lessons he learn from investing in bitcoin.  ;D

That's truly expensive, but the person who bought the prius by that time is really appreciable. 2017 made a big change on the crypto market. He had known well about that bitcoin has value, because very few have thought of buying a car with bitcoin. This is something similar to the costliest pizza sold.

The person who bought car in 2013 didn't know that what will happen in future(2017). If he knew, he would have waited for 2017 but it is reality for many of people who bought and sold in profits. Those who hold their Bitcoin got huge profits in 2017.

Let's analyze this type of thinking. Let's say the price dropped to $10 ….would this guy be stupid to sell those bitcoins to buy the Prius? No, he would have had a asset that he would have been able to sell for a huge profit. I constantly buy Assets/Property/Gold & Silver with some of my bitcoins, because I do not have any guarantees that Bitcoin would succeed in the future.

Even in 2013 there was a big pump at the end of the year (around Nov 2013) very similar to 2017 pump.
One Btc changed the value from 200$ to 1200$ in few months.
At that time for the first time even mainstream media start to talking about bitcoin!
Maybe this can seems expensive with the values of each btc today, but is not, since in these years the value was pretty different from nowadays.
Personally I have also taken a car with btc (exchanged in cash on Jan/2018).
Right now it was a bargain offer :) but I am pretty sure with same amount of btc one day I can buy even a Lambo!

You are absolutely right. It was unknown how the price would move. Compared to today's price, situations seem the same. What would you do if you owned 1000 BTC? Would you still hold when everyone said ''the price would go to 1000''? At least, I would sell half.

It also depends on how he got the bitcoins, if he earned them rather than
bought them well buying something physical like a car in his view was a
worthwhile thing to do. Its all perception so i wouldnt get too hung up about
whether it was smart or not.

Let's be factual my able comrade, hodl for Five years is not as easy as we profess even those of us who have been here longtime ago. We all know that Bitcoin is an industry of long term investment but who can wait for Five years in HODLING? is it easy?. Though he could have bought Lambo if he excises patience until 2017 but let commend him for judicious used of the fund to buy Toyota Prius.

Buying cars or other stuff that depreciate is not a good thing especially you buy using bitcoin. Imagine how much now that car versus bitcoin. Well, I'll do the other way around, if I have a car, I'll sell it and buy bitcoin. That's more wise I guess. ;b

If I got it right, he says in the video that the invested around $3K in 2013 so I guess we can't say that the did a wrong decision. And besides he says he uses the car to travel across cities so I'm sure he has somewhat get the returns for his investments back them.

So we really can't judge the guy, we can probably appreciate what he did early on, and I'm sure he learns some investments lessons as he says in the end of the video.

If I'm not mistaken, at the end of the video he said how he got the money to buy that prius. He borrowed and made money out of it, so he bought a car from that. So basically, he said he didn't regret buying it because it's like a freebie from his loan.

Yes, at the end of that videos the guy showed high level of smartness as he got the money invested from borrowed loan. Actually he should be commended, instead been seen as impatience fellow. Borrow without debt incurement in this industry should be praise, he could have bought Lambo according to OP but still utilize his opportunity.

Well if the dude who bought the Prius is still proudly using the car, I can say that it has earned its merit for being 'that' expensive. Besides, no one really knew what the price of bitcoin will be in the next 4 years. Also, if the dude's happy with his purchase then so be it. Everyone here telling the same thing to wait, but at that given moment, it was the best deal he could get so props to the man actually buying something with bitcoin.

I've always wanted to buy something good for my bitcoins, but it seems that I'm too clingy to the investment side of things that the most expensive thing I ever thought were Jalapeno sauces from Cali. :/

He makes a very good point at 1:54 in the video. He essentially says to avoid cashing crazy gains and "to the moon" type nonsense (most altcoins). He acknowledges that bitcoin can give good returns, but only because it has a very "stable foundation" - i.e. a working product and a real world use.

The money he invested in to bitcoin which eventually let him buy the Prius was borrowed. He invested at $10, and when it hit $22, he paid back the loan and bought the Prius, so he pretty much got a free car out of it. Although it paid off for him, borrowing money to invest in bitcoin (or anything for that matter) is generally a terrible idea.

He definitely has plenty of money. He has even spent a bunch of money on customizing the Prius, and he talks about how he pretty much exclusively uses bitcoin in his day-to-day life.

Could have been 20 lambos instead.
But I'm sure this guy didn't spend his last 1000 bitcoins on the car, he most likely did spend and replace so he's a multimillionaire now.

If you watched the video he didn't regret spending 1000 BTC on a Prius. He did invest because of the loan and all of the BTC used to buy the car came from his profits.

I agree it was very risky on his part. He's lucky Bitcoin's price doubled when he made that investment decision. If someone did the same decision today or last year they would be at a huge loss.

I am sure it is not tragic for him IF he is super wealthy because what is the meaning of 1000 btc to him?
He still has another btc or money in his bank account, and I am sure that in the other days, he will buy another expensive product.
I think he wants to make people amazed with what he did so his name can get popularity among the people.
But if I were him, I will save that btc in my wallet and only waiting when the price can increase as in 2017.

that title is wrong on so many levels.
this is not an "expensive" purchase, this is just a purchase. he bought it at a good price at the time with appropriate amount of bitcoin. and that shows that he has understood what bitcoin is created for (to be a currency not something you hoard) and that is something that sadly many people still don't get.

I wonder how safe it is to come out with your identity and say that all your money is in Bitcoin though, considering all these past incidents of using violence to steal them. It's great that he's doing well, but he better be careful. I also hope people don't get any ideas taking out loans to buy Bitcoin because that's a really great way of either getting a new car or losing your house.

Well if we're talking Prius for 1000 BTC levels, it won't be difficult for alts at all. Priuses are worth like $23,500, which means some random coin only needs to reach $23.50 apiece to be able to buy one for 1000 units. ETH is worth like 6x that level, and it's only been 4 years for it. I know direct comparisons of crypto unit prices is a gross simplification, but I'm just saying that crypto as a whole has gone pretty far.

But yeah, looking at that it's pretty hard to fault HODLers for trying to make money off crypto lol. Dude in the video was even asked if he regretted his purchase, when he only used Bitcoin the way it was meant to be used.

You are only making it worst for him to accept the fact, I hope he doesn't read your post. Who knows whatever he will be doing this time of the day. Every one makes mistakes, even I myself have regret the fact that I sold my coins early. So we just have to accept the truth and get over with it.

No, you totally misunderstood the point of buying that car. You buy "things" with value, to hedge against a situation where Bitcoin might fail in the future. Having all your eggs in one basket, is definitely a huge risk and you hedge against that by buying goods that you can sell, if something terrible goes wrong.  :P

People still need to buy "things" with bitcoins or this whole network of merchants will collapse. <Just replace some of those coins, when you can.>  ;)

It's easy to judge now after 5 years regarding the btc's price. It could have been the cheapest Prius, as well if price wouldn't have raised meanwhile. But yes, it's an expensive Prius at least for now. 😊

That should bring an end to those memes asking 'when fiat panda' as it costs around 1000 bitcoins :D Good to see some real world purchases even if it does seem overpriced

to me this proves two things:
1. the huge potential of bitcoin and how only a small portion of that potential has been reached so far. this growth only proves that despite all the naysayers and FUD spreaders bitcoin continues rising and is not going to stop until it reaches mass adoption.
2. in earlier years the percentage of people who truly understood bitcoin and its purpose has been a lot more than it is now. these days the dominant percentage are investors who don't know what bitcoin is and only care about the profit.

He made a conscious decision to sell his coins to purchase a car and he will not sell those at that time if he was not on profit in the first place, there is nothing for him to cry about at a later stage as everyone had an idea that the price will increase from those situation in ten years time, that is the case with the first ever deal for a pizza too, considering that it will be the most expensive items ever purchased in the world if you compare it to the all time high valuation. :)

I realize that Bitcoin is like a gold mine for hardworking diggers. Bitcoin once achieved the price of $ 20,000 which is a considerable price. Talented investors always know how to make their investments worth increasing every day as a miracle.

I’ve only see here the word delayed gratification, only if he hold that bitcoin for sure he can earn more. Well, it looks like he’s already rich and for sure bitcoin help him a lot to achieve all of these. Now, I’m more willing to hold my bitcoin for many more years because I think the price will still go high in the next 4years.

I have to spend mine today in order to eat, knowing perfectly well that tomorrow those bitcoin could have many times their current purchasing power. It is a shame i had to be born in a country taken and destroyed by socialism. If i ever get a decent job again when the economy recovers after socialists get kicked out, I'll be able to start my bitcoin savings. But i'm afraid it might be too late...

Frankly speaking, Bitcoin potentials has been unleashed as i have seen for the very first time that Bitcoin deploys it powers of real world usability. Hope that Bitcoin keep this relationship between before and after the halving 2020. When this happen then i will belong to the set that will equally testify about Bitcoin usability.

Really interesting & inspiring. I feel confident that one day i'll buy my first car with Bitcoin. Though i don't have much Bitcoin, i am waiting for an increase in the rate of BTC. That might take 2/3 years but i'll wait. I believe in hope.  :)

why does it have to be considered "most expensive"?  the dude had money and spent his money for a vehicle that he needed to use to go around. that is not something to regret, that is what "money" is made for. you are not supposed to hoard money!
not to mention that it was not all the money he had in the world so there is nothing to worry about when it comes to "missing out". he still had more money.

Most Expensive Prius indeed  ;D but there is no loss and he didn't know, no one knows that bitcoin will rise up to $19k last 2017. But with that amount he could really bought a better one today but that car is nice and he needed it. There is a question in my mind like what if bitcoin will really reach $50k or higher in the future? I will surely regret if I won't buy now.

have you watched the entire video or even the last part of it? he said he had no regrets because from what i understood, he used his profit from a loan to buy his car. the $10-loan went up to $22 worth of money (maybe per coin he invested, he didn't mention how much he invested in total), so essentially, he got it for free.

Remember he had to make decisions with only the information he got at the time. He seem to regret nothing, for him it was just a normal purchase and when compared to how little he invested, he can even consider the car "free".

Of course hodlers would just see this as more confirmation to hold on to their stash but still, what is money for but for spending (and investing), right?

This story would have been different had bitcoin crashed and the headline would be "Guy stuck with thousands of useless fad token".

There's been a lot of news in the past where they are using Bitcoin to buy expensive stuff. I'm sure they will hold if only they knew that Bitcoin would pump so much in 2017. No one knows what will happen. I'm amazed on this guy though because he clearly is an early adopter.

But that guy says that all his money is in Bitcoin so obviously he doesn't have any choices but tho used it that time and buy a car that he needed because he constantly travel for conferences so I guess he didn't regret, but very proud just by looking at the customized plate.


Yes, you can say that he is an adopter and I'm sure he still has a lot of bitcoin up to this day. And I don't think that he is a going to hold on it though because he clearly stated that all his money is on Bitcoin.

But if everyone waits for a future increase in the price of bitcoin, instead of using it to buy things, no one will ever use bitcoin and everyone will just sit and wait to gain more...

Bitcoin is just a small dollar before so he might probably earn that money too when he bought bitcoin at a cheaper price. Today, the price is more expensive and many investors don’t want to spend their bitcoin anymore. I also want to hold than to buy anything with bitcoin.

Everyone is telling that what he bought is costly and if would have waited for 2017 then would have got more profit, but tell me who ever had bitcoin at that time have sold in that high price. out of 10 only 2 or 3 have sold and other are crying now. So at what time he sold and bought prius was a good decision for him. Even in 2025 when the price will be more then $50k that time who ever have sold in 2017 will be feeling sorry for it.

So dont see the future if you have commitment then fullfill it and balance keep for future.

That would have required him to wait for 3 more years. He probably weighed his options and decided he can use some of the bitcoins to buy that car. He don't seem to really regret it much. As he said, he basically got the car free from the profit he got from the money he borrowed to invest in bitcoins.

This has happened, because he could have never thought that the price of bitcoin will reach high in such a short time period of ten years. He needs to be appreciated, because these are the people who made bitcoin an valuable token with buying and selling with it. If those incidents and related several other incidents hadn't happened bitcoin could have never got big Marketplaces accepting bitcoin at present.

If you held all the money you were given as a child for ice cream cinema and toys you'd have a lot of money now. If you came into the crypto space in 2010 you would be claiming 1 BTC from a faucet every day. Many people bought stuff with bitcoins before 2017. Should they start listing their most expensive TV's computers, bikes, and other stuff?

people who have 1000 bitcoins or had, are usually miners and early adopters

It is very nice to be able to have a lot of bitcoin at that time and sell it in 2017, and I can make sure that they will be able to become a billionaire of the bitcoin investments they make.

At least he bought a car with bitcoin, I don't think it's a bad thing! It's true that if he wait until 2017, he could buy a lambo! but I don't think that guy is so greedy or maybe I don't think he was aiming for saving bitcoin so much for the future! Maybe he's regretting right now because of that, but this is the destiny, it can't be changed. In his place, maybe I cash out some of my bitcoin and hold the big part, because really, I believe in bitcoin price to increase so much in the future.

Exactly! With that investment he had within three months, he had already a free with a borrowed money and that's kind of risky if you think it. But luckily Bitcoin did not fail him so he got his own car with just a borrowed money. Imagine that $10 to $22 per Bitcoin at the time. That's a big growth for his borrowed money to increased and then return to the person that he was borrowing with the money. At least he learned his lesson every time he wants to invest in something.

Many people change their life because of high price of bitcoin in 2017 I have a friend that because of bitcoin she built a new house, it's not expected but it's truly amazing that time. Nothing is impossible if you want to reach your goal in life and maybe this people who got thousands of bitcoin is from their hard work and determination to make a great a profit in crypto.

Back in 2013, I also spent a couple of Bitcoins on stuff that's already broken by now, like a Samsung Galaxy S5.

You don’t need to be rich just to have a car like this, and before the price of bitcoin is cheap that’s why it took a 1000 bitcoin before you have your car. That guy is an early adopter of bitcoin, and that’s why he was able to buy more bitcoin. This is already a history, that car is also a history for sure more stories will come out like this.

Yes, more stories like that will come out in the future but the last time I checked most of the people that spent much Bitcoin just like the guy are not early adopters alone but also an early miner of Bitcoin. Do you remember the man that bought thousands of Bitcoin with pizza?

Everything is developing, like cars that have been depreciating since they were bought, and Bitcoins that have been rising since they were bought. But he needs a car.

I mean no one knew what the price of bitcoin would be in the next couple of years, so i think it’s not a bad decision, if he really enjoys the car. Of course, it also depends on how he actually got the bitcoins. If he actually earned them then i don’t see anything wrong with buying the car.

Well, my opinion to this one is the guy is predicting that bitcoin will not be that famous and its price will not pump, So as soon he had still that kind amount of bitcoin, He rushes and bought a car without thinking. But look on the bright side the car has many uses for every day. Unlike the 10k BTC for just for pizza right?

So he bought Prius for 1000 Bitcoins years ago, that is a whole lot of money now. Well he never knew Bitcoin will get to its current height as of today so he had to use his money to get what he wanted as of that time. So many cases are seen in so many places, people who sold their bitcoin before the bull run.

an item value is very dependent on the buyer. if the buyer says the item has historical value, any item at a price can be very expensive. there is no expensive item if the buyer does not use it. This is only a trade that can be very unique and strange, but this can become a reality.

Who wouldn't know what will bitcoin capable of in the future and at that moment few people don't trust investing on bitcoin since only few people are using it unlike today million of people are using it and still counting. At that moment when he bought a prius using his bitcoin he is already satisfied on what the value it is.
