Title: Heat evacuator through window for 12 asics
Post by: Piggybox on February 26, 2019, 10:23:57 PM
Hi guys.

I made this closet to evacuate the heat of the Asics through the window of your house (especially in summer).  It is designed so that you can put asic single tube, double tube and even rack. It can also work in reverse, taking the fresh air (in winter) from the street and expelling the heat to the room. (sorry but it does not soundproof).

nice idea.

the asics fire into second chamber
second chamber feeds in to exhaust vent

you could add this on the vent

It is not necessary to put a fan of extraction, I did a test with a smaller cabinet of 4 asics and increased the dimensions of output until the heat stopped affecting the equipment. Then increase the dimensions proportionally until you reach 12.
I have avoided installing additional fans because a failure in them can cause the asic to break down. (google English translator) ;)

I canīt enter in your link.    :-\

What about the PSU heat?

nice woodwork , but for me its a total fire hazard, and never ever would put my asics into something like this if its made from wood.
(actually let me correct myself, i might ,if the mining cave is located somewhere in my backyard far away from the house im living in )
I started using asics 4 years ago, started with a few, then my asics mining room started to pull more and more amps ...
Back in time, Some of my s7 board power connection got melted after hardware failure, same thing happened with one of my s9.
if i remeber right i had some issue with some of my bitmain psus also... never had any issues with the wiring itself

You are right but, wood is a nice sound insulator... Perhaps those philipma1957 noise insulating and fire retardant fabric tiles would help? Or, put the wood box inside a metal/rock/masonry box or such...

Then make no sense to me to build a box from wood :) why build two boxes? why not build only one from "metal/rock/masonry", if sound is the issue for you, you can use "any noise insulating and fire retardant fabric tiles" on ""metal/rock/masonry"" boxes ;)
Also dont forget if there is any fire happening inside the box, all those cooling fans going to spread the fire within a second. All those asic cooling fans actually going to feed, pull, push the flames to the exterior wall of that wood box.
For me safety first, and as of my personal experience with all those asics i had in the past 4 years, i would not suggest to place, install any asic hardware into any wood box, even if i only have 1-2% chance for those asics ever catch fire.
But thats maybe only me :)

Well a box inside a box is just adding layers for sound insulation (and heat, in case it melts :)) But sure, you could make it just using the other materials, inside you would still need those sound insulating fabrics because the other materials are not good insulating noise.

Ideally you would use nothing and in a warehouse no one would care about the noise. But this is what you get when your miners can't be silent at home anymore...

I'm a carpenter. Building a wooden structure is faster and easier than all that. It is manufactured in this way for a possible commercial version that is sold disassembled. It is very important what you say about the possibility of fire. I have looked at boards of fireproof material and they are terribly expensive. I will choose to give you some fireproof paint, it will be the easiest and cheapest. The closet does not sound much ... it is to join the flows and be able to evacuate easily through a window. Here in Spain is usually a problem heat evacuation, especially in domestic use of Asics.

Try using inside those fabrics which are sound insulating and fire retardant, like the ones used inside cars. Or maybe fiberglass fabric, its thicker but cheaper. Add more layers for greater sound insulation, and if you use ducts, use the thick ones with sound/thermal insulation as well.

+1 for adding some sort of exhaust fan. At the moment, those miner fans are somewhat competing with each other (especially at the bottom). I'm sure it's fine as it is, but there is always the risk that wind in the wrong direction may overcome those already stressed miner fans and prevent significant exhaust. A large, low RPM fan (even a box fan) would be perfect here.

The question of putting a fan to complete the flow of output is left to the final customer. In the closet the dimensions of the air ducts are generous so that it does not affect the temperature of the asic (as I have said before) I did it so I can not offer a two year warranty to a fan that will work 7 / 24, I also thought that it was a danger that this big output fan would stop working putting at risk of overheating the Asic. If the customer decides to put the fan, it could "double" the capacity to put Asic in the cabinet, for example, if the ventilation is efficient, 12 "double tube" Asic (s15, z9, z11 ...). If I find the right economic conditions, I will carry out the soundproof design that I have in mind. The problem with this design is that it requires a previous module (to the Asics) and another module later so that the sound is reduced. In total it would measure 30 cm (sound reducer at the entrance of the Asics module) + 45 cm (asic module with insulation) + 60 cm (module with insulation with interior panels) + 60 cm (same as the previous one) +80 cm (driving towards window with insulation) = 275 cm (it would occupy 195cm in the room once placed in the window). This thought well not to make much noise in the room where it will be and also to not make noise in the street that will receive the hot air.
It is a project a bit expensive and results are not too clear.

I think I'm going to start with something a little smaller.

Thank you for your interest.
