Title: TradingView tips and tricks
Post by: crypmike on March 18, 2019, 09:57:13 PM
TradingView doesn’t need a special introduction, there are the most convenient charts here, community and more.
This website is made truly well and is developed continuously.
There are a lot of different settings here and I like this flexibility a lot

Everybody do as he wants, but  I think that a clean chart makes the process of decision making easier and more right finally.
Less noise less wrong decisions, that’s pretty it.
TV even has some recommendations (https://www.tradingview.com/house-rules/) for this
Now I’ll explain how I set my charts up and some impressive and useful TV functions.

Basically, TV chart looks like this:

https://i.imgur.com/cxmEE4O.png

It's getting pretty noisy here especially when you are starting to add indicators, trendlines, etc.
I remove all unnecessary information from the right scale, remove also the price line which sometimes looks like s/r level, switch off indicator values.
I just don’t use it. The main principle is: if I don’t use it — I remove it

I prefer white/black candles because they are emotionally easier. Red candles attract our attention a lot,
makes us more impulsive in our decisions and the same with green. W/B candles let us work only with price structure without additional emotions.
Also, I use a slightly gray background to lower contrast and decrease the load on eyes.
One more advice — don’t use acid/toxic colors or bold lines, usually, it looks not so nice and makes your chart dirty.

My settings:

My chart view:

Everyone decides how to draw, I just wrote down the principles that guide myself

Favorite Time-frames

Let’s start from quick access to time-frames. For this, we will add interesting time-zones to favorites.
This is very convenient and saves 1-2 clicks every time.

https://i.imgur.com/F1KBUsa.png

Favorite Tools

The same as time-frames, we can add tools to favorites. They’ll be shown in a separate panel

https://i.imgur.com/iH59ykG.png

Favorite indicators and Indicator templates

I’m not going to talk about indicators which I use — it depends on different situations.
But I can tell that I use RSI and Volume almost always. But not all indicators are available in Basic subscription
— for example, you need Pro subscription for Horizontal Volume. Now then, you can also add indicators to favorites

https://i.imgur.com/8gZgb7m.png

I prefer to use Indicators Templates — a very cool thing, much faster than find & choose a necessary indicator every time.
Just save indicators to templates and load it when you need it. Also can add it to favorites. Just one click instead if searching and etc

https://i.imgur.com/yRpC5SY.png

Hint: double click on area opens it full-screen. Double-click again and it returns to the basic statement

Now, I’ll tell about the instruments which I use in trading

Alerts

Many use alerts.  TV has a small minus here — on my subscription I have only 10.
There is an email alert or sound signal. Most of all I like different triggers — you can set an alert on the moment of crossing, one per bar close, etc.
I prefer 4H or 1D time-frames. Alerts could be set up on the price or indicators (for example, MACD lines crossing)

https://i.imgur.com/aNuDTGv.png

Bar Replay

The very useful thing if you want to test your strategy on historical data or just to practice in decision-making.
The point is, you rewind a chart to some moment in the past, clean it, and then replay it once again. You get as if the accelerated chart

https://i.imgur.com/fLvITqz.png

Watchlists

On the right side, you can see lists panel — group your actives on different lists to ease access to them (for example, Main list, Watchlist, In position, etc)

https://i.imgur.com/fOTXFs0.png

Snapshots

I use them for my trading journal and for working on mistakes. I save them to a special folder and watch from time to time

https://i.imgur.com/W5Nu6Ot.png

Publish ideas

If you want to develop your community and get followers if your analytics is good or you just want to get some feedback
— you can publish ideas with Publish button on the top panel

Screener

On the bottom, you can find Screener tab. You can choose Crypto screener, filter exchange and you’ll get quite a nice chart scanner even with system recommendations to buy/to sell. Don’t forget about your own TA and Risk-management.

https://i.imgur.com/v3SQ5TD.png

Select multiple objects

You can select multiple objects on your chart and move them all simultaneously

* Hold Ctrl (Windows and Linux) or ⌘ (Mac)
* Drag the mouse cursor, while left clicking and holding to select the area that contains objects

Not only buttons

TV has not only coins but also some crypto-related charts such as Market Cap, BTC dominance, etc. You can read more here (https://blog.tradingview.com/ru/new-capitalization-crypto-indices-available-on-chart-10376/)

The trading view is one of the sites I trust most regarding a professional TA in cryptocurrency. Because in this site, this is where I find almost true TA in which you can really win trades. This is a great site, if I remember it right, this is where they predicted the 20k BTC USD. This site is very useful to us traders.

I like this platform too. You can adjust the charts as it is convenient for you. You can earn both on trading and on the release of their own signals. Very convenient and simple interface. Overall I really liked it.

This is a detailed teaching, the adjustments, timeframe knowledge is very good. This will definitely help users here. The chats shown by Op are well elaborate plus the watchlist , that seem like blockfolio.

Agreed and I hope to see more trader share this kind of tips and tricks in this board instead of more threads about trading bots that promises nice offer if we use the bots.

For those who do wants to start on engaging to charting then this post is very help specially to newbies even to those older traders who arent aware or doesnt know on how to
use Tradingview. I do also have that set-up when it comes to simplicity of the charts. Its cool in the eyes without those gridlines plus without having a black background.
You can put up tools and remove as you like even putting indicators on few numbers doesnt really look messy.

This simple guides really provided information on how to work well inside tradingView, I agree with what you've said it will helps users to simply set things up for much clearer and better view as there's lots of things to see when you start this system up, allowing yourself to organize things will make it more easier to find trades to work with.

I think the main problem here is the default chart of trading view uses a plain background followed by unpleasant candle colors which only uses a light red and green. Your customized chart with black and white candles are better but I am still not comfortable on seeing a white chart, it's too plain for me. So I guess it comes down to your own personal preference. The chart that I am used to has a gray background at the same time I use their brightest red and green candles, I also use borders for it.

I revisited the site because I didn't bother to check what it does exactly. I get now why a lot of people use it.
I just want to ask: is it a paid membership you have or just a free account? Didn't know users can customize like this.  Also, with a free plan, can a free account create custom conditions for alerts?

I'm a user of good old MT4 so all those customization and even design of tradingview seems pretty unusual to me. Of course I've heard about this platform but never tested it by myself (trading from terminall, that is installed on your PC is easier for me) but now I'm curious to try it. I've noticed that accounts with all features in tradingview are not free so I would rather test it later but your thread is already bookmarked. Thanks!

yes, all of these are suitable for a basic plan, including alerts. Pro account just gives you some additional indicators/ more alerts/ options

An excellent initiative to teach some basic introduction of trading view that was really quite helpful. I would like to add up some of my tricks and tips which are these easy keyboard shortcuts which you can use https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DYwjtXPUQAAeZBW.png

Another important tool for beginners in Trading view is the magnet mode it helps the cursor to snap near the OHLC points of the candles so it will make drawing of trendlines, fibonaccis & support resistance much easier than drawing it without it.

Thank you for the useful Tips!

TV is great, if it's understood at one point. Even just the charting tool is it worth to work with and it definitely stands out among free tools on the internet (in my opinion).

These are very informative charts and images. Its really a good view to help in our trading decisions. I still need to analize the chart on how I can use it in my trading strategies. Definitely I can get some ideas o  the market trend and the right timing to buy and sell.

Great to see some indicators used by some traders, RSI MACD, Ichi, EMA12 MACD.
Its all about preferences I guess.  I prefer mine to have a black background so my eyes won't hurt, I'm good with green and red candles sticks.
How different does the tradingview work with bitstamp compare to binance?

@OP, I appreciate your input on this. The truth is that I've searched for videos or articles to customize my tradingview charts and make it my own and I couldn't find one. I will apply your settings and remove the noise from my charts. I have one question though.

Say I have added 3 indicators to my chart and I want to remove one, how do I do that? Also, I don't know if it's just me but sometimes when I have 2 indicators on my chart and try to add a third, I get a message about the limit of 3 indicators meanwhile I have only 2 on the charts.
I am among those who have difficulty using trading view. at least with this thread I feel helped.
thanks for sharing.

You're not alone. I've had a hard time with trading view since  the first time I used it.

The biggest challenge we tend to see in new traders is that the new traders need to be told as quickly as doable to earn, they rush into commercialism live which "rush" does not truly permit them to really learn the way to trade, prospering commercialism comes in 2 components, the primary is mental skills and also the second could be a complete commercialism system, while not having each of those traders fail

I like to use this platform as well, because it provides the convenience of enabling the user to customize on how the charts will be shown. Thanks to OP for doing this very comprehensive tutorial on how to use and adjust the settings on the platform. This is very simple to use which is also a good fit even for newbies.
