Title: A withdrawal I made form an exchange has gotten Zero confirmations....
Post by: ebolivia on March 12, 2014, 10:11:54 AM
I withdrew around 0.7001363 BTC from one trading exchange to another around 14 hours ago and it still has 0 confirmations.  I reached out the sending exchange a few hours ago and they informed me that there is nothing they can do about it.

What is going to happen to this transaction?  Is it stuck indefinitely?  Does it dissapear?  Is it returned to the sender at some point?  Should I have the sender follow up with any sort of action(s)?

I've never experienced anything like this, and anyone's help/information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-ed

Transactions dont just disapear as the coins are either at the sending address or receiving address, it has to be either it is immpossible to be neither.

Did the exchange you withdrew from give you a transaction ID?

A transaction ID would be helpful so we can look at the transaction and explain to you why it is taking so long.  Then you could inform the sending exchange what they've done wrong.

What exchange were you using for the sending exchange?

It will most likely be confirmed eventually.  If it doesn't confirm in the next few days, what will happen will depend on how the exchange sends the transaction.

It will either continue to be broadcast until a miner finally confirms it, or it will stop being broadcast (in which case the funds will be available to the exchange).

Hi,

Thanks so much for responding.

The exchange is https://xnigma.com/.

The transaction ID is https://blockchain.info/tx/a72dfeaf8459b6c89b2988b4e77ad50e704290709f04bad62001e1ff4064c5a5

Any info would help as this is a bit above what I understand at the moment.

Blockchain.info seems to think it will confirm "very soon" even without any fees.  So be patient.  :-)

They didn't pay a transaction fee and they funded the transaction with bitcoins that they had received only 1 day earlier.  This puts the transaction pretty low on the priority list for the miners.  There is a chance that it will get confirmed later today, it will most likely get confirmed sometime in the next few days.

I would recommend informing them of their mistake and not using their service until they learn how to properly create transactions that will confirm quickly (such as including a transaction fee of at least 0.0001 BTC per kilobyte).
