These are my number one tips for looking out for a newbie scammers.

1. Never ever go first
 If the newbie asks you to go first don't because they are looking to get something valuable of you without paying you.

2. Lending section/loans
if the newbie asks you to send you bitcoins without collateral they are trying to trick you and 99% you will get scammed.

3. Newbie not using escrow
If you ask the newbie to use escrow and they say no then you will have a bad deal and chances are you will lose your bitcoins.

4.newbie is promoting a ico or fake bounty
if the newbie is promoting a ico or bounty and hasn't escrowed the funds with a trusted member then this could be a potential scam.

These are my own top 4 tips on newbie scammers or attempted scammers. if you have anymore tips you can reply below and I will try my best to add them on. But for all of you bitcoin members stay safe out there.

If no escrow involved then already conclude that the user is attempting to do sh*t to you.

No such transaction should be deal now.

Bottom line, used our precious "common sense".

I see in bounty thread, there are many bounty project is promoted by Newbie. Not all newbie promote ico is scammer.
And i see some good bounty manager isn't always create real bounty. You can see their trust rate in bounty manager profile to check they once make scam bounty or no.

Well, your suggestions helps in most cases in general, not dealing only with Newbies.
1. Never go first when user don't have many positive feedbacks, use escrow in such cases. Even Sr. Or Hero members often don't have many feedbacks in their profile, so it's not safe to deal with them without escrow.
2. If newbie asking without collateral, it's 99.99% chance that you will be scammed. If higher ranked user is asking for loan without collateral, it's also very risky to lend him, unless he have very high trust score.
3. It's always recommend to use escrow, better safe than sorry. When dealing with Newbie it's must use thing, no questions needed.
4. Bounty managed by Newbie is big red flag, it's risky to join it. But even trusted manager isn't guarantee that you will get paid. Sometimes payments for bounty are issued by ICO team, not by manager, so risk to be scammed still remains.

I'd say you need to also look at which project that do that. I've personally known a bounty manager who manages multiple projects creates a new account for each project that she manages (well, to be precise, Copper Member). But if the project is really weak/without any prospect, it's very likely the bounty will only waste hunters' time.

I saw some scammer used newbie account to provide bounties last year. They used newbie account to promote the project, then they tried to sell their coins and then dump the coins or exit project in sudden. I think scammers used newbie account, because they can abandon their account anytime, off course it might not be all the cases, we need to research more before jump in a new thing.

Sorry to say this, but I don't like this way of doing things and it raises a lot of flags.
The only reason I can think why she would do this would be to avoid eventual repercussions on her account if the project turns out to be a scam, fail or anything wrong goes with it.

Any other explanation of why she might be doing this? Cause I really can't think of any legit one?


You can easily remove the "newbie" from the text.
You shouldn't do any of those even if the user is a hero member or legendary with only a bit of green trust. And even in those cases, if the sum is something that would hurt you finally and not pizza money, then DON'T!



 

It's easier not to deal with people that doesn't have reputation and isn't really willing to use an escrow. It's already a red flag if they keep on talking of not hiring an escrow.

Trades through the forum should go with an escrow if you don't trust the person that you are dealing with. And for the bounties, like joniboini said most of the new projects or managers are doing that. They rinse and repeat, it's a cycle.

Why newbie only,  anybody can scam though probablity that newbie will scam is too high.
Do not let your gaurd down even for higher ranked member and green trusted member. You never know  if you can be the first victim of their scam attempt.

Although I think your suggestion was good.  It's rear for a newbie scammer to survive and really they post minimal treat to anyone.

These tips should not stick to newbies but to all members. Why is scamming more famous among newbie accounts? Because it does not cost scammers anything they can create thousands of accounts per day.

Not just newbie. Whoever does not trust him, do not send money first.
If you know that member or provided you with sufficient guarantees, there is no difference. The issue is trust and not account rank.

Even if it is a legendary member. No guarantee of funds means you work for free.
