Title: Lolli Chrome Extension - Bitcoin Cashback for Online Shopping
Post by: eternalgloom on April 11, 2019, 04:38:01 PM
Has anyone ever used the Lolli chrome plugin, which gives you cashback for shopping at a bunch of online shops?
I've written a review about them, but I sadly can't test out their service myself, because it's only available in the US.

Here's the article I wrote about them:

Seems interesting, am i getting this correctly that it's like Honey (joinhoney.com), but pays you with Bitcoin instead of just dollars?

Quote
Keep in mind that it can take 30 - 90 days before your Bitcoins are added to your Lolli balance. It takes that long because Lolli needs to properly verify your purchase.
90 days seems a bit excessive..

One thing i don't understand is, who's paying for this, and how? 3.5%-30% discount has to come from somewhere, right?

https://www.lolli.com/stores what exactly does a "partnership" mean? I was under the impression that they simply applied coupon codes, and gave you the return with a cut in BTC.. I guess that's not the case?
Do they use this browser extension to track and sell my data or... what exactly is their business model? After taking a closer look, it seems different from Honey?

90 days is an average delay, when it's about a ticket plane bought it can be 6 months. But users don't care about this usually.

The site earns an affiliate commission to bring new customer. (like if for example, you own a blog and earn a CPA commission).
Let say someone buy for $100 on a store, the cashback site earns 5% then it gives 4% to the person and keep the 1%. Their profits come from this percentage

"Partnership" is a bit exaggerated, there is no direct partnership between the cashback sites and the brands/stores. They use affiliation platforms like Awin, Maxbounty, Sharesale.

I use quite a lot cashback sites but none with BTC in, because they only focus on tier 1 countries (USA-Canada-UK-Australia)

@LeGaulois is correct, it's not really a partnership, it's more that they split their affiliate earnings and just track which users have made a purchase.
The 30 - 90 day waiting period is pretty standard for these cashback services.

This one sadly only works in the US currently, like I've mentioned in the OP.

online paiements can't really function simply by using a chrome addon. Too early for a great improvement.
I will not be surprised if the extension was made by bitpay for exemple, that it won't take three months to verify my transaction.

Isn't writing a review article of a product that you haven't tried yet a bit dangerous?
Did they asked you to do a review and sent you a copy of the code of the extension for verification?

Hope you did a deep background check.

Yeah indeed, it's a little bit risky, but this review was done on commission and after looking at many many reviews, I reckoned that the company was indeed trustworthy enough.
Their reviews on the play store looked genuine and I didn't manage to find any believable scam reports on external websites.

Besides, even if I was to test out their service, it's kinda difficult to wait 30 days or more for payment. (to be able to publish my review)
I'm currently having one of my readers test it out, so I can still add that to my article later on.

It seems to be a great idea if the seller is accepting Bitcoin and you are getting some satoshies back as a cashback. But if it will be available with fiat so your cashback would be simply traded to crypto and in the end you will lose on fees during the first convertation and then get another fee when you need to use this money. That doesn't seem so attractable.

I wouldn't really recommend using them for the sake of earning money.

The concerns about the wait time is right, but it's quite industry standard. The cashback sites that I personally have used in the past all have pending times of more than one or two months at the very least, because they need to ensure that your transaction isn't disputed or refunded before you receive your cashback.

If you're already doing some shopping and have experience with cashback sites that pay in fiat, and you want to get paid directly in bitcoin, then this may be worth a try. But the rewards are low while wait times are high, so it's definitely not dependable as some sort of scheme to make a stable income.

It's good to save some bucks if you shop online regularly. Sometimes you can find an offer of 40$ to switch from your electricity provider, ect.
Low reward but a dollar is a dollar, you're happy at the end of the year. For exemple, I saved about 400$ last year. Not a lot you can say but it pays my health insurance for a full year. If you use coupon codes and can buy the gift cards cheaper then it's great.

Anyone know of something similar like this but less US centric? I know of apps that work the exact same way, except with cash payments, here where I live and back in Southeast Asia. Has worked for the latter, cashbacks are pretty quick, where I live now takes up to 6 months so as I only recently signed up have yet to see how it works.

Moving more of my shopping online since it's cheaper actually and if I could also use Bitcoin any extra cashback would be great.

Back home, be getting a nice cashback bonus end of the year for shopping i do anyway. Just the drawback of enabling cookies and all that data they want to collect.

One that pays only in BTC? None, at least I don't know of any, all the sites I have met, because members mentioned them, are really concentrated only on the US audience. Better to use a local website if you're not.
Or local cashback should take interest in Bitcoin, but I doubt they will get a strong demand from their users. Always the same problem for a company, is it profitable...

eBates in Canada has a wait of 1-7 days usually, with some exceptions (Hotels and Airlines).

I've found another similar service that also serves people from outside the US, as long as the website you're buying from ships to your country.
https://www.coinrebates.com

Now, I have no idea if they're actually trustworthy or not. The website looks fairly simple, but that doesn't really tell you anything.

Yeah, I knew this one, (surely from Bitcointalk). But still the same disadvantage. This the full list of stores
https://www.coinrebates.com/stores/all

How many stores from the list do you use? Personally just 3: Timberland, Sephora, and Gearbest. And I don't need Gearbest anymore since I finished the domotic at my house.
On the other hand, the site has the advantage of having the minimum payment at 100 bits, whereas it is usually about $10-$20 (I haven't used the word "Bits" in years)

This is nice. Anyway people do not really care about other stuffs as long as they need to shop they will but good thing is you will be earning while spending. Sad that it is available only in the US but I was thinking, if a user has accumulated much bitcoin, the article didn’t mention that users can use them to buy back in Lolli if they want, I think they should also make it possible.

I used coinrebates.com on three different stores (if I remember correctly) several times a few years ago, and they paid out within 30 days, no hassle. Then somewhere around the end of 2017, they just seemed to stop paying. I messages their support several times and received no reply, and haven't used them since.

I would be interested to know if anyone else is currently using them and they are successfully paying out. It was really nice to get 5-10% cashback in bitcoin on things I was going to be buying anyway.

There is this Chrome browser extension that generate bitcoin also that was suggested by a friend to be downloaded and alas, it almost ruined my laptop. It made it too slow and hanged all the time. I thought  Lolli is similar to this but Lolli is for online shoppers. Good to know that, that you will be earning while spending and I guess they will also be accepting bitcoin if buyers would want to buy something using their bitcoin, though it was not mentioned in the article.

No, the article doesn't mention it for a reason. I suppose you didn't understand how these websites work. They don't sell anything, in fact, you can't even deposit money. So accepting Bitcoin for what?
Lolli is not similar to the extension that you're talking about (Anything "generating bitcoins" is a scam) you're saying yourself "but Lolli is for online shoppers"
