Title: Top posters [June 23 UPDATE]

Now with activity, and ME for comparison!

The only thing more inspirational than a decentralized digital currency would be a few charts about something people look at every day.

Looking good, you should make some more.
In the second graph you should have put all of the top posters in 1 color and the rest in another (not individually).

Then you should be looking at people with the highest activity level, not top posters (there are a few people with 1k activity level, but less than 1-2k posts).

I think I might fall in that category or close to it.

Here's my logged in time:
Total time logged in: 30 days, 6 hours and 29 minutes.

I spent the better part of 2011/2012 addicted to this forum.

I think it's safe to say everyone in that pie chart still probably owns at least 100 BTC.

I think it'd be interesting to see what percentage of folks primarily focused on the various mining subforums in 2010-2012 like you and I did. I lurked for quite a while before actually signing up (didn't you?), spending most of my time on IRC and just reading. It seems like a lot of these users listed in the OP's post have a vested interest in keeping forum activity levels higher (not their Activity rating, just forum activity in general), which is why I was thinking maybe they still owned a significant amount of BTC still.

I don't personally own enough to troll forums for the rest of my life, but I imagine at least some of the people spending their lives here 24/7 do. :P

dude the people on that list aren't spammers their old school members of the forum and have contributed alot in one way or another.  Not saying there perfect but I wouldn't not just start throwing them all in a box and labeling them spammers.  Just my 2 cents however.

Um, I'm not sure about that. Define spammer.

Title: Re: Top Posters
Post by: counter on March 21, 2014, 07:33:54 PM
Sorry I'm not gonna define spammer atm nor will sit here and defend everyone on that list but I don't think classifying them all as spammers is even remotely rational.  At very least I'd say a quarter of that list don't fit the tag spammer.

This are just people that I know of the top of my head that have good discussions on this forum and contribute for the better overall. on this forum imo.

I have deleted a handful. I treated a conspiracy theorist on here quite poorly (I basically dox'd him after showing he wasn't actually really willing to bet that I could find an Aurora shooting victim's traces on the Internet prior to the shooting, which I did and he still thought Aurora was "false flag" event) and now he thinks I'm a government agent. I believed I deleted most of my posts associated with that whole mess because it was pretty embarrassing for him and I came across as a pissed off maniac. :P

That said, he's left the forum and come back several times over now since.

Well mine did.

I'm fairly certain I can drop my activity to almost 0.

I've always wondered if deleted posts can be restored? IIRC they aren't actually deleted, only hidden. I wonder how many posts I actually have?

I think admins/possibly mods can see the posts users delete. Not sure if a trail is left behind of posts that staff delete or not.

6817

There are ~250,000 deleted posts in the database, some going back to 2010.

It requires some manual work, with more work required for older posts.

The top chart is on a log scale, the bottom one is not. :)

Not really. He's probably the biggest troll here as well as being painfully unfunny (something I don't think he's aware of).

I think he's just had enough of the forum for whatever reason. I think he mentioned something along the lines of 'this forum has served its purpose".

He did run a few shady securities on this forum in 2012.

Also he was one of the main Pirate-pass-through "operators".

in the future it is  ;D , and how is it only 0.1? For example if Phinnaeus Gage went for Ritz's deal then 19,562 x 0.011 = 215.182BTC, 19,562 / 3000 = 6.5 months

Hero members, we will pay you:
0.0011 BTC  Per constructive post. 50 posts min per month.
NOT spam. NO rubbish posts (we do check)  max 3000 posts per month.

So more like 3000*0.0011 = 3.3 BTC per month, a magnitude less than your calculations suggest.

And Phinn's account is almost 3 years old, whereas Ritz's been offering this "deal" for only a few weeks, you have no guarantee he will be able to continue paying so much.

I think that he might have gotten it from a thread (in the off-topic section I believe). There isn't a way that he can know my logged in time otherwise as far as I know.
This way he can only include people who have posted there.

It tells me your "Total Time Spent Online" is 19 days, 5 hours and 52 minutes now. :)

It's very telling that the top two boards are about altcoins. The top two "lifeless users" are probably govt agency workers paid to review the information daily.

Don't think so. And also don't think it's the top two "lifeless users" real online time. They probably run some forum-bot/script/macro that keeps them online/generate these "total time logged in".

From a few searches I've done it doesn't appear to be the case, but it *is* probably safe to say they are using bots for coin-trading based on BTCtalk sentiment. One of them specifically seems to be an altcoin pumper/dumper. Maybe he was monitoring altcoin thread activity to determine which ones to invest in.

I wouldn't be too proud. To be on the list you need to have no real life and be willing to troll every thread you click on. By troll I mean answer in some way whether you have something useful to add or not. Not really a great accomplishment unless you are a confessed troll and like it. Never mind - you actually fit because you like trolling, carry on.  ;D

To be fair it is quite saddening that the top 2 boards are indeed Altcoin related. It shows how many shitcoins have come to bitcointalk to clutter the forum with their annoying announcements and IPOs before running off with people's money or pumping and dumping.

True. But there's no really stopping them. Bitcoin is, in most parts, the main focus. It's just because the Altcoin threads themselves derive more attention because of the development (creation of forums/faucets surrounding new alt coin) and "get-rich-quick" chance of them.

A list of 20 users with over 182,462 post and i know that 1 of these 20 users PG were banned for "Spam" how many others were banned for the same offense?  I'm almost 100% positive with over 182k posts not all were of valued content or added to the discussion. I'm guessing at least 10-20% of these posts were "Spam" related in nature.

P.S. 20 people have a WHOLE lot of nothing else to do beside post.

PG was banned for excessive posting (I think) It's kind of hard to understand what motivates guys like him to post that much. He doesn't get paid to post, nor he promotes a cause or a profitable enterprise. It's easier to get why some of those top posters are signature campaign participants. They have a decent earning from that and you could even say that posting is sorta like a part-time job for some.

people have also accused him of talking down a company, getting paid for his silence, and then going silent.

20K posts in a month would mean a post every 2 minutes for 30 days in a row.

Not even PG could do that. :)

PG promotes bitcoin100 and Sean's Outpost (both are charitable organizations) and puts their links in his sig and a few of his posts, but I don't think that is related to his "excessive posting". :)

They have a decent earning from that and you could even say that posting is sorta like a part-time job for some.

i think he was banned for excessive use of a racial epithet. he kept saying "not all black people are (you know what), but my neices boyfriend is a (you know what).

people have also accused him of talking down a company, getting paid for his silence, and then going silent.
I disagree, Surprisingly he was never banned for that Racist thread. He was banned for some Ramblings on the AMT thread. I will NEVER achieve 20K posts although, i'm almost 1/10th the way there now.
I Mentioned the fact PG should add a sig campaign and Donate the money to a good cause. He flat out said No.
The number of 182k posts for a handful of people still boggles the mind.

i wasn't around when he was banned, so i don't know for sure. 182k posts between 20 different people isn't that incomprehensible.. post inequality is real!

No worries, you have a place in the list of worst trust feedback, just after BFL and Inaba.

I'm on the list.  :D

Hopefully I will remain there. We will see.

I wouldn't be too proud. To be on the list you need to have no real life and be willing to troll every thread you click on. By troll I mean answer in some way whether you have something useful to add or not. Not really a great accomplishment unless you are a confessed troll and like it. Never mind - you actually fit because you like trolling, carry on.  ;D

I've accomplished much more than just laughs on this forum. Although entertainment is fun when it is as the expense of a scammer or troll.

Well having a wife and kids and a home to tend to isn't exactly as you might view of "having a life". lol  :D But your assumptions are amusing me right now. So carry on!

IMO I shouldn't be on the list at all, over half my posts are directs. Forum search seems to be limited so it doesn't show them all, but you can see on the forum stats page (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats) I show up as #1 topic starter with almost 3700 topics. Real topics I've started is probably closer to 20-30.

That's not even counting that I used to delete my redirects regularly, and I only leave redirects less than half the time these days. I wonder how many topics I've moved total.

Haha. Better get deleting all those redirects then  ;D. Though I imagine that'd be a pretty exhausting / time-consuming task and not really worth the hassle. Depends how much you really don't want to have the title of user with most threads created  :D.

Easy math.

Bitcoin = 1 coin = has 50 subforums
Altcoins = 1000 coins = for only 2 major subforums (and 2 not much used)

-> most posts in the two major altcoin subs

Is that what caused some of the subforums to dissapear briefly? Bitcoin Discussion went for a while and I noticed Goods also.

Edit: seen your other post.

I've lost some money to inputs.io myself. Didn't bother leaving feedback.
One of these days I'll compile a top-100 list so everyone can get in the picture.

The top posters are going to be very less from signature campaigns in coming months. The reason is Stunna has introduced a post limit on his campaigners too. It seems now all the campaigns have post limit and we can expect more quality posts now.

Doubt it, they'll just use multiple accounts, you can buy a new account and have it paid off in a few days.

Initially I thought it too. But, if u look at the ROI (feeling ashamed to use it for a signature campaign where even I take part !!!), this wont probably happen. Because, with limited post count, people wont be able to recover their investment in account purchase soon. So, they'll refrain from purchasing account and try on building a single good one.

If a senior account costs less than 1 BTC, ROI time is 2 months. With only 400 posts a month so please, you don't know what you're talking about.

Thank you OP for updating.

Are people actually selling senior member accounts? I mean is there evidence of this? I'm asking honestly, I haven't paid much attention lately to the latest forum drama.

I know of a few that were definitely sold. For hero accounts, the price is apparently pretty good.

I think they will, particularly botters, people from third world countries where their wages are extremely low, and kids who consider it "free" money. The forum has also been discussed on more than one money making website. Not entirely a bad thing I suppose, it's bringing newcomers to bitcoin. Increased bannings are an unfortunate side effect though.
