The days of mining with your personal computers are over, unless you want your hardware to be toast for no reward. It is simply not worth the effort.Even many Graphic cards are obsolete.

this is sadly true .. :'( Another strategy is to mine some new coins whatever you think might be useful, before professional miners jumping into them. Maybe not be profitable at the beginning, but hold them until price goes up.!

Ooh. Can you recommend the cheapest mining set up one can own. I really want to go into this mining thing. Seems I'm years behind.

Speculative mining doesn't make sense as most likely you'll just be mining at a loss and waste electricity.
If mining is more expensive than just buying the coin, it makes more sense just buying the coin.
Currently it depends on your electricity-price if mining is profitable or not.

I have spent a lot of money building up a portfolio since mid 2018 till now. I'm currently running at losses. Mining might be the only way out right now. But I can't afford the complete setup. Is it possible to lease?

My PC has a AMD A8-6410 processor up to 2.7 GHz.
Your Processor is a laptop processor means that your PC is a Laptop, yes?
You can mine using it but it won't help you with the "loses", there's a huge chance that it will break before you can even earn the minimum payout.

If you want to try GPU mining, start by buying a full GPU-capable PC first. GPU = Graphics Processing Unit aka. Video Card.
Laptop's integrated or add-on GPUs aren't good for mining since those are built for efficiency and low-energy than performance.

My only suggestion is DYOR before deciding to buy the necessary hardware for mining since it's a one-way ticket.

Is it possible to lease?
You can rent hashrates from some online services like nicehash, but it's worse than actual mining, I don't recommend it.
Also, stay away from "Cloud Mining", 90% of those are scam, the rest are not profitable at the moment.

Like someone said above, this is no longer worthy of my friends, mining using a laptop or computer will only cause your hardware to be obsolete at a cost not worth it for now, we all know the price is down.
But it's still worth trying, do with your own risk, experience is expensive, your experience will be useful for the future, for yourself and others.
Good luck my friend!

At one time I tried mining using PC. All I have achieved is the load on the processor, which sometimes prevented me from working at the computer. Perhaps the electricity bill was bigger, but I didn’t notice a significant difference.
For starters, you choose new coins with low complexity; then you still have to buy a minimum of hardware.

But in this case it is easier to simply remain an investor and look for the reasons for your failure. And fix it.
Switching between activities in search of better earnings can hardly get success.

You can mine cryptoknight coins, though I would not really recommend you mine with a laptop as laptops are not really ment to be mined with. Overheating will very much limit the lifespan of your laptop, so you need to have this in mind.

How far you're willing to endangered your  PC/Laptop? mining isn't profitable anymore, reading those replied above will give you a good basis not to proceed with this journey, the mining industry for solo miner is already long forgotten, the profits against the expenses is far differ, it will only ends up
losing your device without any rewards or any value after, research everything before you continue.

Sincerely, mining with personal computers don't worth it anymore. Not only will you pay more for energy, you will also put your hardware at great risk, at the long run end up with little or no profit.
Many have said it all, and it will be wise to listen to the opinion of majority.

I know ASIC miners have become some what popular and more effective than GPU/CPU miners, but you can try bitcoin gold, zencash and zclassic though it will require more effort to get something more tangible in recent times.

Why not buy a single GPU to start mining? just put it in your PCIE to your PC and you can start mining.

And I would like to share you one of the good thread where you can find which GPU you should buy that can make you real profit.

You can try to mine Cpu mineable coins but there is no point in doing that with your processor as it is not that powerful and it is also mobile so it can hurt your laptop.

Mining rigs are being sold cheap on Ebay so you can buy one, if you have little money there are also mining rigs with only 3 cards for sale there.

you got a laptop processor, it won't be good to do mining because the results given are very few and even make your laptop slower and even damaged. so my suggestion is that you can collect money then buy mining equipment like making a PC but by adding a lot of GPU.

Why do you prefer to use your personal computer for mining instead of the new one with probably updated features. If you are really serious to do mining, then you better equip yourself with powerful computer

You can still mine CPU-only mining coins like Nimiq (NIM). Should be easy to setup and mine thru a mining pool.
I mined the coin when the mainnet launched, accumulated coins and stopped due to computer problem.

for the mining pools and you can now try to visit the announcement page of that coin directly and  you will find all of mining pools that support those coins. But it much better for you to re consider it again.
Mining pools and mining software can't help you to get a lot of optimize the result of your hashrate. The result of your hash depends on your GPU or CPU. what kind of GPU that already installed in your PC?

There are many coin I would have suggest for you to mine, but it sems as if your PC processor is not that strong to handle the process you might want to increase the capacity or you buy minning rig. But for now you can start wirh minng Uplexa token their mining pool and earnings is encouraging. That should get you started for the time being

OP's pc processor is not recommended to be used to mine crypto right now. That only waste a lot of time and that will make OP needs to pay more. He can't even get a buck in a day. This time the recommended CPU to mine crypto at least ryzen. But it's still not too strong enough compared with the GPU. That's better to sell his CPU and try to convert it into the GPU. Even second-hand GPU is much better than it. https://www.miningbenchmark.net/cpus.php
that gives a lot of insight about the profitability of A8

It is good you are planning of entering into mining because bounties these days are not profitable and relying on it alone will not fetch you anything. Since the PC is not so powerful, you can try mining the new coins since those ones are less complex.

my system makes use of an AMD Radeon 8 GPU. I'm considering just abandoning it for mining alot. I don't care about the hardware.. I just want to dump it to serve some purpose.

I would suggest to not use your GPU to mine any Altcoin, because most miner now have at least 10++ state of the art GPUs. You will got crushed by them and make your mining is worthless. But if you insist, I suggest to mine a good coin not shitcoin.

Try to choose some new fresh projects with good support of cryptocommunity.
In the initial stages, mining is much easier to do, especially in the long run.
or, as an option, to mine for several days ALL new projects,  something will be good

agree with you. I'm not really good at Mining problems, but I think using a PC processor will only make you lose. right now, there are so many good coins to mine. maybe the suggestion above is very good. if you intend to mine, try to take risks. selling CPUs, and buying GPUs that support Mining will get better. even more so if you can make it in the form of a rig.

Mining on a laptop is a losing business. 1) You will spend time searching for a suitable coin. 2) Your GPU will overheat, which reduces its life. 3) Depending on the region of residence, you will also need to pay electricity bills. Mining on a laptop may be of interest to the enthusiast. For profitable mining, you need modern powerful GPU.

when you mine using the laptop you have then it will make the machine from your laptop damaged and nothing can make a profit when you mine using a laptop, you better build some computers and build a place to do mining such as building a rig or something so it won't damage your laptop and make it a device to monitor your mining machine.

Such a minimal amount of coins your computer can make. In fact most of the computers who don't have a mining hardware can't mine a profitable amount of btc. If you have money to buy a hardware, mining is one good option for you. ;)

Although it is really better to mine using special hardware, not all people can buy it as the prices for this stuff are too high. The performance of AMD A8-6410 is not the best one, but BTC can be mined on it if I am not mistaken.

From reading through this thread I got the impression that you need to research and learn before going into anything else. You are having that natural reaction caused by the downfall of your investments. You need to calm down and think this through... your porfolio maybe down now but on crypto things are always on the move.
It is difficult to say what would be right because I don't know your situation, but if you want to get into mining, research first... there are people earning good money with mining as they catch the new projects hen they are very yourng, but this presents high risk and requires constant hard work
Also, review your portfolio, maybe you have a better portfolio than you think... in terms of crypto, the year is just starting

This CPU was put into production 5 years ago. You can engage in mining coins only for the CPU. But you will not get much profit. Try mining on light varieties of cn algorithms.

You can mine several coins like GBX, XMR with your computer! But that will be not helpful for sure. Because it can damage your computer's processor or hardware or the revenue will be very low. I would like to suggest staking coins on a computer instead of mining!

The difficulty of the Dogecoin network is quite high, so mining these coins using the CPU of your computer is a bad idea.
If we talk about mining DOGE with video cards, it's better to choose ATI devices

Considering the difficulties associated with mining the top minable cryptocurrencies, researching and identifying new minable crypto coins will be the best option in order to maximize your profit outcome. New coins mostly have less difficulties comparing them to the top cryptocurrencies regarding their mining difficulties.  I will advise that you do some research to identify new mining cryptocurrencies.

Try to search about cryptonite and you can try to mine them using the specs you've mentioned but it's not really recommended using those specs, you will just ended up nothing ad possible your computer will collapse plus the internet and electricity you are paying.

I agree with you. You can even use old computers for mining new coins. And I don't know what to do to burn the cpu. Probably not watching the cooling system at all. Work with a broken fan and completely dirty cooling? :D
