Title: Bither problem
Post by: josephdd1 on June 01, 2019, 10:03:45 PM
I was browsing cold wallets, recently tried Mycelium unsuccessful but then I came across Bither.
When i first opened the wallet I swear i saw a button under advanced settings that said switch mode to cold wallet or something.. but now I can't find it... I tried reinstalling, and everthing, still no success... anyone know if this is a bug with Bither or something I do wrong??

IIRC, this only shows up if you open Bither while offline (not connected to any network/4G). Try putting your phone on airplane mode and opening it again.

I think the point is to use one phone as a cold wallet and another as a hot wallet. In the hot wallet, you create the tx and in the cold one (always offline), you sign the transactions.

It's not under "Advanced Settings"... it was just under the standard settings when you click the little "gear" icon. Perhaps try and delete the app data and then restart it and see if it gives you the option again.

And, I don't think you need to be offline to see the option... as it shows up fine on mine when connected to 4G. As per the popup, it just needs to be offline to be able to use it as "Bither Cold":

Sorry for the late. Because our team members are in China, and you know the GFW, we does not check bitcointalk forum often. This account is Bitpie Wallet, which is also from Bither Team.
As HCP said, you need to shut off your internet connection/ flight mode to set the cold mode of your Bither. Once you set it into a cold wallet, you cannot return to the hot mode any more.
We just release a new version v1.8.6, and it has tuning the performance of importing private keys and reload transaction data.

Another advice: Bitpie Wallet (bitpie.com) is a multi-chain wallet developed by us following bither, which is easier to use,  so we strongly recommend you to use Bitpie instead of Bither.

Guys thanks for the suggestions, but I figured it out myself but it was not the offline or airplane mode solution.. I deleted the wallet and saw that the cold storage option showed as long as I did not create a new wallet address. I did this multiple times to confirm it.

I'm successfully using Bither now to store some funds for long term.
Also, I guess this thread will help someone else in future, I will leave it unlocked for now.
Thanks again everyone.
