Title: Help! Didnt find this problem with electrum anywhere...
Post by: Ruby71 on June 06, 2019, 04:24:59 PM
Hello dear community!

Ive been using electrum for almost two years now and didnt had any bigger problems in this time except the big hack attack once.
Im using it with two different wallets.
Since a few days I have big troubles and im worrying about my money!

Im trying to fix my first Wallet first:
When I try to send BTC on it, the summary shows me that he only send the transaction fee, nothing else! I tried several times to send to a adress of mine on the same wallet coins but every time he shows me he send 0 BTC and 0.002 (f.e.) fee. Furthermore I get only the fee booked on my wallet. Because of that I obviously get no income through the test transaction to myself. So I cant move my coins. Doesnt care which number of coins I try to send. My wallet is connected with a green lamp and I never had any problems like this.

Im pretty sure that my wallets are not phished or something, because I lost money through the hacks months ago on one other wallet I kept me updated how to use electrum with updates and co.
The problems were on 3.3.4 and I updated today to 3.3.6, still nothing else..
Every transaction I made I send with around 190-260sat/byte. Furthermore I only use the devices for my wallets.

Im a amateur, so if you have any ideas, please tell it to me understandable.
If someone can help me fix both of my wallets, I pay him 100€ in coins.

The first thing that comes into my mind is that you may have reached the gap limit with wallet 1 and wallet 2 doesn't know that this has happened.

It's kind of hard to follow what you're saying, but if you try to send funds to an address managed by the same wallet, you'll only see the fee being deducted from your balance.

A transaction is being generated and broadcasted, the transaction has a fee, but since you're spending unspent outputs funding an address in same wallet , the only balance difference is the fee being payed.

Do you mean everytime you send bitcoin to your own address or other address it's asking for 0.002 fee?

Can you post your bitcoin address here to check and maybe you have lots of inputs that is why it asking for 0.002 fee?

There is a slide button to set the fee did you use it?

Or you are talking about a change address every time you made a transaction the remaining bitcoin sent to change addresses?
You can disable it by going to tools>preferences> transaction then uncheck "use change addresses"

This should be easy to check, by pressing Preview instead of Send, I guess. OP can check and tell if it was this false alarm.

Transaction fees have gone down so you should set a lower fee. Even 5 sat/byte is plenty now. Another possibility is that you have a 2fa wallet and it's sending the 2fa fees to your cosigner's address. If you click on preview on the send tab it should show that output highlighted in purple. You can 2fa change fee settings by clicking on the blue-white shield icon in the bottom right.

when you send coins to your own address (old used or new address) in the same wallet,
you will ony see the fee deducted from your total balance in the wallet
the wallet doesn't see it as an income to your wallet because there's no new coins added to your wallet
only fee amount was deducted to pay network fee to confirm your transaction
what you have done is what we called as consolidating inputs (if they were many inputs)

A transaction is being generated and broadcasted, the transaction has a fee, but since you're spending unspent outputs funding an address in same wallet , the only balance difference is the fee being payed.

mocacinno has explained it pretty well, that's how it will look on your wallet
there's nothing to fix, it behaves as it supposed to :)

To expand on mocacinno's explanation...

Because you sent from your wallet to an address in same wallet, instead of showing your transaction as two different transactions:
1. "TransactionOUT = (-1 BTC - fee)"
2. "TransactionIN = (+1 BTC)"

Electrum "sees" it as just a single transaction:
"TransactionOUTandIN = (-1 BTC -fee + 1BTC)"

Then it adds/subtracts all the values to get a single total value... so (-1 -fee + 1) => -fee:
"TransactionOUTandIN = -fee"

That is why you see it on the Transaction History as showing just "-fee"... the out and in amounts cancel each other out. However, if you were to send to an address that is NOT in the same wallet, you would see the total "sent" amount, not just the fee.
