Title: Facebook Cryptocurrency
Post by: Kongxx on June 17, 2019, 03:00:35 AM
I am determined to buy FB coin Libra even though it is not available yet. I hope it is available on exchanges where i can buy easily.

Will it be a threat to BTC and other altcoins? I am afraid that the prices of BTC and other altcoins will go down. It makes me hesitate to buy some currencies like TRX currently.

You won't be able to buy a coin until it's available. The modality of distribution of the coin issued by Facebook is not revealed as yet. But they may go with a private sell first. The private sell amount would be huge as many of well known companies are interested in it. They'd surely go with a public sell, whatever small as they require adoption from the community. But anyway they'll force you to buy it one way or other.

We are hoping for that possibility, more exchanges offering it would be better.
The curring set up is one project in one exchange only for IEO, but this one is big, it should be available for most trusted exchange.
I have not read the whole information about this, just a head line and I think it's one of the reasons of the pump recently.

Will it be a threat to BTC and other altcoins? I am afraid that the prices of BTC and other altcoins will go down. It makes me hesitate to buy some currencies like TRX currently.

It's not gonna be a threat, the market is big, but as it come here, I believe it will only help increase the adoption in crypto.

how do you plan to buy a coin that is not yet available anywhere even on its own blockchain and explorer? If you find it difficult to invest on btc, eth and every other altcoins then wait till when you are convinced to do so. Also, Facebook currency will not be a threat to btc

Facebook coin is probably a hyped coin. Better to check and review first what they have to offer, I dont think they can be compete with other major projects now like TRX, EOS, ETH those are huge projects that are really big in volume and potential, unlike fb still on the paper trail.

No, I don't think it will be a threat to Bitcoin. Also I thought it was going to be a stablecoin? So there would be no point in buying it in the hopes of a price increase, as it would always remain a constant value. One interesting possibility is that it will become the most reliable stablecoin and people might be comfortable moving to it during a bear market. That is, if its even going to be listed on exchanges - it might end up just being internal to Facebook.

Why do many people think Facebook coin will be a threat to Bitcoin and Altcoin, this is confusing to me. I know that Facebook has been very popular with social media, but for cryptocurrency I think it will still be a newcomer. I don't think it's that easy to reach popular.

Or with the creation of the libra coin will give a bad impact to the crypto. I just feel curious about how can you sure if anything that created by big companies will give a huge impact to the crypto? bitcoin gains its price without needing any help from the major platforms. big companies always familiar with the monopolization.

Threat? Facebook centralized coin. Which will not work in a large part of the market. China and Russia. What is the threat? Just she will be paid in the inside of Facebook nothing more.

As far as I know cryptocurrency from Facebook will not be available on the exchanges I guess they will be selling from their own platform to control over the prices of their cryptocurrencies and it is a stable currency so it is not going to be a threat for the the decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and other most recognised cryptocurrencies. But you need to be very careful while investing on the stable coin even it is from the the reputed sites because they are new to the crypto field.

You just said it? Facebook has a large consumer base - their product is already all over the world, so the advertising is quiet easy.

Remember the biggest flaw in cryptoworld is that "normal/everyday humans" doesnt understand it - imagine facebook made it so easy to use, and made people comfortable buying/using their coin..
Unfortunately i think facebooks coin will reach new highs in terms of market cap - but then again, a company owned coin smells weird  ::)

Why do you want to buy Facebook's GlobalCoin? Did you try to search what is Facebook coin?
Why not just buy a lot of USDT or DAI instead? As GlobalCoin is going to be a stable coin?
If stables coins are starting to increase, it will mean that the bear market is back.

For bitcoin, it's a no. For other altcoins? probably it is because people tend to choose this coin that's supported by a known company like facebook. They even announced companies that heavily invested to their project like Uber.

I am afraid that the prices of BTC and other altcoins will go down. It makes me hesitate to buy some currencies like TRX currently.
Stop making FUD, bitcoin price will go down? can't you see what's happening to bitcoin's price lately? it has moved up to $9k so where's the negativity coming from?

If indeed its true that Facebook will be developing their own cryptocurrency then I think it will give boost to the whole crypto-ecosystem since it only shows that one of the leading technology company in the world has acknowledged the advantages of cryptocurrencies which could further hasten mass adoption of relevant cryptocurrencies with real use-cases.

you can buy it if they sell it to you but they won't because it is only an stable coin that will only be available on their platform. so you will never be able to buy it. instead you are forced to open up an account with them, give them all your information which they will then use as they wish and then they give you an account with a balance after you also give them your fiat money. then you can only use that balance on their platform :)

threat to bitcoin? lol. read again what i said. do you think this centralized platform is even coming near the decentralized currency like bitcoin?
in fact if it does anything, it will only push people more towards bitcoin because after its creation a lot more people are going to be subjected to the corruption of these centralized companies and want a way out.

I do not think that the emergence of coins in the social network Facebook has a bad effect on the price of BTC. On the contrary, thanks to this, even more people will learn about cryptocurrencies and their capabilities, which will provoke an influx of new users, and hence cryptocurrency buyers, which will naturally increase the price. Also, the appearance of the Facebook coin will be the next step in the development of the crypto industry as a whole, thereby opening the way to new price heights.

The hype around the new Facebook token will of course be huge and its price will make dizzying somersaults. However, the history of the development of the TON token from Telegram shows that the introduction of the new Facebook token can take years. I don’t think that SEC will easily give Facebook permission to release its own cryptocurrency.

As they launched, it will be available in the exchanges, surely in major exchanges as facebook ain't no newbie in business world.
There is a hype, so I would say let's take advantage to it as newbie would certainly buy as much as they can which would result to a temporary increase of the price.

This isn't a thread of Bitcoin as it will never be replace as the king in the market, but maybe it will reduce some dominance as this coin could be a thread to the other altcoins in the market.

Its said you can earn the coin by clicking facebook ads and watching facebook videos. Information like these is unsure but assumption are somewhat possible. How else can we earn it since mining isn't possible. I'd be seeking more programs that will auto click all these videos and ads when its really what it is. There are many videos are Libra in youtube.

Like others have said here this is going to be a good thing for crypto. This will boost crypto and blockchain awareness. Eventually volume in crypto as a whole should be increased with a lot of new money put into the space.

Crypto is here to stay and although I wish it wasn’t Facebook to do this push, it is needed. This is the next step to boost crypto back to the forefront of media and get it back on track to going higher in price.

The libra coin hasn't traded on the exchange and also the libra coin will be traded on their exchange platform which called as callibra. You have to wait until this year end because for now it's just an announced about whitepaper. I don't believe libra coin will have a high price since if you read its whitepaper then you won't have a think that libra coin will have a volatile price. The price movement as like USDC on stock exchange, if you ever trade on forex then you will how the price up and down.

Libra coin is just another one stable coin for cryptocurrency market , that issued by facebook in collaboration with other big companies . I don't see how this steblecoin can directly affect the price of bitcoin , but as it was said earlier, next year btc halving will occur and this fact will impact on BTC price. Facebook and all other companies will simply try to earn money during upcoming crypto hyip by issuing their own cryptocurrencies .

Ha, for what? I see no zero threat at all of Facebook coin to Bitcoin, it can be to other coins, but to Bitcoin, it is not. What do you think people are crazy about when it comes to cryptocurrency? I believe that it is the decentralized system of it that makes people want to hold Bitcoin for transaction which Facebook coin will not portray at all.

Facebook coin is a centralized coin which I even learn that it will only be used internally, so before you jump into Facebook market and buy their coin, be very sure it will be useful to you, don’t expect this coin to make you money, stable coin from Facebook will have no growth, only going to be pegged to a currency and be used within their system for purchase of any of their products.

Libra will be a much purchased coin because of course many people are curious about this coin. I'm sure Libra will easily get trust from the public. I think by buying Libra coins will affect the price of bitcoin, Libra coins will be launched in 2020, where Bitcoin is halving, affecting the price of bitcoin which is increasingly expensive, feared there will be many investors who turn away from bitcoin and choose new coins.
Stop think you can buy libra easily even when company is still feeling so difficult to deal with US regulators
https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-48688359
Facebook has already paused libra due to the US regulator's order.
Libra will get another delay and it will come to us later 2022
Bitcoin is a winner and hope new ATH soon.

Libra isn't going to be a competitor of Bitcoin anyway. A coin created by Facebook, a a company that collects information about it's users, tracks them and spies on them shouldn't even be compared to Bitcoin.

It is not possible to buy Libra coin because of till now it is not available anywhere in any exchange or ICO/IEO. No coin is a threat to any coin. As this is a wide market.

If all this facebook coin will be hype the whole year and the next, I think there will be more scams in the libra coin later one. There was thread lately which OP was doing ICO with the libra coin, its a scam and was stopped right away. But given that Real facebook libra coin will be released by next year, this will give time for the scammers to mimic professional looking website to emulate facebook Libra coin's site.

It was said in the youtube video I watched that Libra can be earned by facebook users. So you just wait till the release.

With a search of keyword about facebook crypto or libra coin a lot of topics will pop. And most of these topics are asking if it will be a threat to bitcoin or if it can kick bitcoin out of its place. Crypto people, you should not think about it because bitcoin has been established and it's not like any other altcoin that we used to know as pump and dump and has claimed that they can be the same as bitcoin.

Bitcoin and altcoin that are popular today I don't think it's possible to let prices fall. The presence of the Facebook coin has not been tested properly. So it's impossible to beat Bitcoin.

Your opinion makes sense. I agree with you if Facebook coin won't have a chance to compete with Bitcoin or other popular altcoins for now. Moreover, if the Facebook coin is a stable coin. The coin is not suitable for investment asset, so people should prefer to choose Bitcoin or top altcoins. Don't be so afraid with new coins, guys.  ;D

Libra coin is not a threat to BTC or other altcoins, Libra is a stable coin, so I think Libra will have a role as a virtual currency to store assets and transactions.  Libra is not good for create a profits from short trades.  but Libra's popularity will defeat the popularity of other altcoins.

Another one of this post where Libra is the top topic. I think people are just over hyping this project where in they compare it to BTC which is already a stablished coin. Libra is just another altcoin and cannot even be a threat to BTC for the top coin in the market.

Facebook's new GlobalCoin cryptocurrency is a stablecoin used for payment purposes within its network and it won't be a speculative type commodity like Bitcoin and probably won't have smart contract features like Ethereum or Tron so it won't likely affect their marketshare

We are free to embrace or refuse it. Its our personal choice as long as we are well educated about this both cryptocurrency either bitcoin or libra. Basically, they have different purposes. Libra is for stable medium of exchange while bitcoin is good for investment vehicle. Libra gains much attention since Facebook is famous social media but bitcoin established its name to be a successful crypto. I think there is no sense if we always compare this two.

I think it will not be intimidated by BTC because fb coins are not yet available and the amount of fb users who know crypto is not so great that it can overturn BTC.

The amount of FB users will eventually know about bitcoin, so eventually when they sees bitcoin is a good investment, they will buy it.
Institutional investors are pushing bitcoin up so small investors it's a good to invest in bitcoin and will also lead to another increase, that's my theory so let's believe that the rise will further continue.

Your post is full of blunders. First of all, the name of the cryptocurrency is Libracoin and not Global coin. And secondly, it is not going to be a stablecoin. As per Zucker, the currency will be backed up by real assets (including cash and bullion), but the exchange rate will be fluctuating similar to Bitcoin or Ethereum. And thirdly, it is not confirmed that the coin will not have smart contract features. Those details are not public as of now. But in all possibility, why should they shy away from using advanced technology, when they have the option?

People does not know a lot about Libra, but they know this coin is own by Facebook so they are investing in the crypto space now.
Most of the them are buying bitcoin so we are seeing a bitcoin rocket again.

The action of facebook is pro crypto so this really brings positive result, if we still remember during the last year's ban, the effect was negative and it has a big negative effect and now it's a big opposite of the effect. We should be thankful with this, without FB announcement, we won't reach this high now.

Exactly. Libra will never defeat Bitcoin simply because it's centralized and manipulated by a middleman or third party. It's the same thing as traditional banks, where they keep custody of users' funds. Knowing that Facebook has been a threat to privacy for quite some time, it's evident that their cryptocurrency will become massively monitored by them and worldwide governments.

Despite this, Libra's adoption within the mainstream world would prove to be highly beneficial towards Blockchain technology itself. It will allow people to greatly understand how the Blockchain works, and how to make use of it within their daily lives. That exposure, would make crypto mainstream once and for all. Of course, the single point of failure (Facebook) greatly defeats the purpose of a Blockchain, but it's interesting to see how everything will unfold within the future.

Personally, I would invest into Libra only because it has a possibility of becoming extremely popular in the future. But, I'd never use it as an ordinary cryptocurrency because of its many risks mentioned earlier. The success of Facebook's new cryptocurrency will greatly depend on people's adoption within the mainstream world. We already have Banks collaborating with governments worldwide in order to devise a digital currency of their own. This adds up some level of competition for Libra, as the world will determine which currency to use in the future.

Nonetheless, time will tell how far Libra would go with the on-going developments in the regulatory sector. Just my thoughts ;D

This is the main issue in using this libra coin, your own privacy. But if people is not worried that this company will know every step of their daily lives, then go for it. But I don't agree with the OP that this will be a threat to bitcoin or other altcoins. For those who value their privacy, they will not abandon bitcoin or any other altcoins that promote anonymity. Well right now, we can only predict. Bitcoin is very strong when it comes to competition of Libra with Bitcoin. The rate of Bitcoin adoption is huge. It has already been the leader in digital economy. Supply is limited and that is the reason it is disinflationary as well. We do not know if these kind of traits are attached with Libra. However Libra will accelerate the crypto adoption to a huge extent.

Hello, before you totally disregard people’s opinion, you have to also back your own claim up too with a solid link to the source of your own information.we have so many information flying across the internet as regards this proposed Facebook coin, and all having different version. To the best of my knowledge for now, Mark has not even usher a word as regards the coin, but I guess one of his partners has done so when he claim to defend the accusation that it will compete with bitcoin.

He totally disregarded the accusation, and according to the version that I read too, the coin is meant to be a stable coin and would be pegged to a dollar, so I do not know where your own source of information is coming from too, for you to think Facebook coin will be useful for investment, this is just a utility token to be used internally, and probably as a global stable coin.

Agree. No other cryptocurrency has been able to outpace Bitcoin. Not even Ethereum, which is the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Considering that Facebook's Libra cryptocurrency will be extremely centralized, it won't stand a chance against existing decentralized solutions. The beauty of Bitcoin relies on its decentralized design where no central authority is in charge of its future direction. Also, supply is deflationary and only governed by the protocol itself. Unlike Libra, Bitcoin allows anyone to transact freely without the intervention of a middleman or third party.

I believe that FB's Libra cryptocurrency will become extremely monitored by governments worldwide and Facebook itself. This would greatly threaten the privacy of many people, as their transactions will be exposed to centralized entities. In effect, transactions can be restricted on the network, accounts can be frozen, etc. On the other hand, this is not widely possible on Bitcoin. Of course, if Libra becomes a success, then it would become widely adopted by the mainstream world. This would prove to become beneficial towards Blockchain technology itself, but not for Bitcoin.

Despite this, we cannot predict the future. Libra has just been announced, but it's awaiting launch within 2020. It may take some time before we could determine what would be of this new cryptocurrency within the mainstream world. As some of Libra specs have not been revealed yet, we cannot know for sure whenever it'll be deflationary or otherwise.

Nonetheless, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies will still be in the lead for many years to come. With already existent stablecoins like USDT, USDC, and more, Libra may have a fierce competition to keep up with once it's launched within the mainstream world. Just my thoughts ;D

Its going to make their job easy that way. When their libra is up, you can buy easily when you have done all these.

Binance has announced that it will be posted on its exchanger. And I think all major exchangers will be publishing Libra Coin because of the potential for large trading volumes. The crypto market will be more attractive if large exchangers start trading Libra coin and there will be many large investors who will enter the crypto market

Certainly we have lots of people that would not like the operation of Facebook coin, but For the sake of large investors that will  be needed to come into the market and help push the value of some coins high, I think we have to just support Facebook coin, because it may be the most popular coin when it becomes released aside bitcoin, the hype will really be so much within the first month of its increase.

During this hype period, it is every obvious that a whole lots of people would be initiated into the cryptocurrency market, and as we all know that what a lot of us are here for is mostly the benefit aspect of it in terms of investment. Normally payment should have been the major target, but as volatility is still present, people want to quickly take advantage of it to make as much as they can make.

If you are really interested to buy Libra, then you must have already made yourself familiar with it. As of now, I can see that you really do not know anything about Libra at all. Libra is intended to be a stablecoin. Now, tell me, how could you make a huge profit out of it? A stablecoin does not move like Bitcoin and other alts. From the name itself, it remains stable.

We just think that Libra is adding value to the market, the problem with some people are just so dumb enough to make easy conclusion even without researching first on what Libra can bring to the market, they think anything that would come would be a threat.

Libra cannot be considered a threat to Bitcoin and crypto, since it's centralized in every way. It's not even comparable towards traditional cryptocurrencies, since there's no censorship-resistance or immutability. Facebook will be considered the sole owner of Libra's blockchain ledger. This means, that it can do whatever it desires among people's transactions in a similar fashion as a traditional Bank.

Despite the facts, if Facebook's Libra cryptocurrency proves to become successful in the future, then it would bring a huge boost towards Blockchain adoption within the mainstream world. Libra won't be able to stand a chance against existent decentralized cryptos like Bitcoin and Ethereum, but it'll complement them in every way. This will bring some level of exposure towards people worldwide, allowing them to make better use of crypto and Blockchain technology.

Nonetheless, the existence of Facebook's cryptocurrency will be highly controversial as Banks and governments worldwide become threats of the same. They will not allow an alternative digital currency to take over Fiat anytime soon. Hence, Libra could just be an experimental ground for the world's upcoming global digital Fiat currency within the not-so-distant future. Just my thoughts ;D

Today I have came across the white paper of Libra coin as well as gone through their website. It is already available project but since it is a centralised medium take and make the promotion on their platform directly. I have heard that facebook will have a project so it's likely to say that many will be interested in the facebook crypto project and I'm sure many investors will invest in facebook ieo.

Exactly I see the Facebook coin to be a survival of the fittest as so many people are very much interested in grabbing it. The big investors will have a much advantage but hopefully we can still grab some

They were grouping up with big investment from private investors.I believe there is no public route cell for normal people who wish to invest and Libra coin.
Today I have came across the white paper of Libra coin as well as gone through their website. It is already available project but since it is a centralised medium take and make the promotion on their platform directly. It will definitely push Facebook coin to high position once it has been launched.
Facebook made so much noise with his coin. I think that this is only PR for the company. There will not be such a strong coin in the cryptovalt market.

The threat is just the privacy issue for the fact that facebook has done it before. For someone with a ton of money in crypto would be threatened to come to the platform because browsers are used to collect data. Libra can help the crypto market, this is true amazing for crypto users. With the billions of users, this price spikes today I think is because the announcement of facebook.

Libra can help the crypto market, this is true amazing for crypto users. With the billions of users, this price spikes today I think is because the announcement of facebook.

That's certainly true, mate. For this very reason, some people are afraid that Facebook's Libra cryptocurrency will turn into a "Honeypot" for the government. Transactions would be easily viewable across the digital ledger controlled by Facebook itself. Whenever such transactions meet the requirements of the government (and Facebook itself), they will become accepted in the ledger. Otherwise, your account could be easily frozen or detained by centralized entities. Which means, no one is safe even if you have nothing to hide.

In contrast, popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum are free and open to anyone worldwide. There's no middleman or central authority keeping track of your transactions across the Blockchain, giving them control over which transactions are accepted and which are rejected. Of course, Bitcoin and Ethereum are still transparent by design. But, having no single entity in charge is a plus as it prevents transactions from being rejected or seized by third-parties.

What really matters here is censorship-resistance and decentralization. Most people don't seem to care about this, since they're only into crypto for the money. But once they realize that Libra is just another banking system, they'll truly grasp the benefits of alternative blockchains we know and love today. Personally, I see Libra as a main trigger for the adoption of crypto and Blockchain technology worldwide. It could bring lots of investors into it, allowing prices to skyrocket within a short time frame. This makes a great opportunity to earn profit from Libra during its early days. But, I wouldn't recommend using it as a serious cryptocurrency because of the reasons mentioned earlier.

Nonetheless, if Libra's launch becomes a success, then Blockchain would've finally become adopted by the mainstream world. However, considering that most governments and central banks have been against Libra, it's very unlikely that it'll be able to survive anytime soon. Just my thoughts ;D

Will it be a threat to BTC and other altcoins? I am afraid that the prices of BTC and other altcoins will go down. It makes me hesitate to buy some currencies like TRX currently.

Store Bitcoin and altcoins in your crypto wallet but never Libra. Well, what are you up to with Libra? It is nothing but a digital dollar. Meaning to say, it is not really something we can take profit from. You are terribly wrong if you think Libra will threaten Bitcoin and top altcoins. It will not threat them even a little. On the contrary, it helps them gain attention and support.

Too much hype on libra. I don't think it'll be like what people think it'll be when it gets oficially released. Like all other alts, it's movement will swat depending on how bitcoin moves. And don't worry about other alts getting rekt right now. I just bought myslef a couple of trx and btt while they're dropping. That's just how it should be. Eventually bitcoin will slow down and alts will recover.

Agree. Libra's current situation looks very similar to Zcash before its launch. So many people were hyped with its revolutionary technology, that it was all over the news. Within the first day of launch, 1 ZEC was worth thousands of dollars (USD). A few years later, and now ZEC is left behind for the next big thing in crypto as its prices are way low than it used to be. The same thing could happen with Facebook's Libra coin, where prices could skyrocket within the short time frame as a result of hype.

Once that's over, then expect Libra to massively decline in popularity across the mainstream world. Despite how revolutionary Libra claims to be, it'll never overcome well-established cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. It's extremely centralized, yet another banking system where only a single entity is in charge of everything. That's not the purpose why Blockchain was designed for in the first place. Which is why, Facebook's cryptocurrency would be more of a failure than a success within a year from now. Just my thoughts ;D

If all goes well for Facebook's Libra cryptocurrency (in terms of regulatory compliance), then it may very well launch it's own ICO instead of an IEO. Facebook is still a trusted company worldwide, despite the latest privacy scandals. The inception of the Libra blockchain will greatly transform our economy in many ways that were never thought possible before. While it's going to be extremely centralized, and audited by the government, it will serve well as an alternative to physical cash (Fiat).

However, Libra will never threaten the existence of popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum since it's a completely different thing. It's like comparing apples vs oranges. Libra will become the world's next-generation Fiat (if approved by governments worldwide), while cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum will become the alternative money for the people. Being centralized has its benefits such as lower fees and higher speeds, but it lacks censorship-resistance and resilience. On the other hand, decentralization solves these problems but it's unable to process transactions at high speeds while maintaining costs as low as possible.

Nonetheless, Facebook's cryptocurrency will bring a greater level of Blockchain adoption among people in the mainstream world. Of course, it'll need to have the approval of worldwide governments in order to become a success. Otherwise, it'll become vaporware over time. Just my opinion :)

I would invest into Facebook's cryptocurrency too, as I believe that it will gather lots of attention within the mainstream world at launch. But as a real currency for daily payments, I wouldn't recommend using it since Facebook is well-known to invade people's privacy. Libra will never become a threat to already established cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum since it's completely centralized. Facebook's cryptocurrency will look more like another central bank, than real a crypto with a permission-less Blockchain.

Which is why, it's no secret that Libra will behave the same way as Ripple's XRP. By sacrificing decentralization and censorship-resistance, Libra will be able to obtain massive transactions per second (TPS) and very low fees. Because of these "benefits", people might tend to use Libra more than Bitcoin or any other altcoin within the mainstream world. Despite this, the future of Libra is uncertain, as regulators are questioning its legitimacy.

Which is why, Libra could either fail altogether or become successful enough to drive Blockchain technology towards massive adoption within the mainstream world. Just my opinion :)

Things can be changed over time, in reality. There are so many times bitcoin called as a fraud, but over time, by now, there are more people accepted it. It is the same for crypto currencies. Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan, and John McAfeee have all done the same things. They all changed their minds and accept bitcoin as well as crypto currencies.

That's how the world in which we live is. People always envy and jealous you because they didn't get the chance to start as you. It is clear that facebook was doing that out of bitterness in a sense that they were not the first to bring crypto to the world. Now that they have realized that crypto is unstoppable, they just have to join the race and stop talking against it. This is just the beginning for crypto though

Might be a threat to RIPPLE IMO

Anyhow, Libra have a different purpose here
They are not deflationary, they are backed up by Fiats/assets unlike BTC which is backed up by nothing except trust on the Blockchain

So no, it won't replace or be a threat

I will also buy some if it sells an IEO or on any platform, of course there is information about the sale of Facebook's codes right now, want to buy it.

I will be surprise to see the coin go for IEO again after raising such large fund with so many support from big companies. They can only get on exchange at their own will and I bet the team dont need to lobby for any exchange, sure they will get the big volume exchanges even in the USA. Most people will have their first investment in this space because of the coin, mostly from with big fund because of the confidence they might have gotten by the USA government and the coin stability in value.

Libra has not launched their fundraising yet so you won't be able to buy their coins yet. Don't be scared in buying other coins in the market now and looking at IEO's, there are a lot of projects out there that still provides good use cases and hardware that can help businesses (http://www.hpb.io/?utm_source=lx) with the help of blockchain. I would say that Libra will not be a threat and BTC will always be king, however, I like what Libra is doing now for the crypto community as its bringing mass adoption. Libra is a tool of noise, to attract people and let them know more about crypto currencies, globally. By now, Libra has finished its mission for crypto currencies in this period. Libra might be a stablecoin, but it could still gain a lot of attention within the mainstream world. Despite prices remaining relatively static, Libra's demand could rise at an exponential rate within the future if it becomes a huge success. Blazing fast transactions and extremely low fees will greatly contribute towards higher usage of Libra.

Of course, many crypto enthusiasts (including me) are not much of a fan of this new cryptocurrency because it'll be extremely centralized and audited by its associated company. There will be no privacy at all, as every transaction made by users worldwide will be completely visible within Facebook's blockchain ledger. Despite this, Libra will use an interesting concept which will lead it to scale towards millions of TPS. This will be made widely possible via the use of BFT algorithms.

Nonetheless, Facebook's cryptocurrency has gathered a lot of buzz lately, but it'll never be able to overcome established cryptos like Bitcoin and Ethereum. That's because Libra will become another central Bank, while crypto will remain as a censorship-resistant alternative towards such financial institutions. After all, Blockchain was designed to circumvent the middleman. Hence, only decentralized cryptocurrencies will prevail in the long run. Just my thoughts ;D

This is a stable coin in my opinion and different from Bitcoin and Altcoin. Maybe the right choice not to buy with a thought that results in a fairly high price on the market. But there will be other benefits that you can feel by buying these coins.
A stable coin for me is Bitcoin itself. I do not use direct stable coin, it is not interesting in trading. I trade only Bitcoin-Altcoin.

Libra will not shift BTC, for whatever reason, even though currently Libra is not yet available, I'm sure Libra tokens have a high Supply value, if the inventory is large, then the tokens must have low value, this is affected by supply coin/tokens, BTC experiences limited supply at 21 Million, then the price of BTC will continue to move up, along with the scarcity of BTC on the market.

Governments don't want to see the mass usable cryptocurrency which they can't intervene. If there is no chance to change its power by governments, the officials will try to do their best for hunting the global coin. Facebook share the private information with the governments and they caught several times. After the fines, they tightened their terms of service and it will be the same for Libra on social media.

When Facebook introduced the Libra coin, is there any place in their summarized whitepaper that stated that the cryptocurrency proposed would be used for investment purpose?

Facebook created the coin to solve some payment challenge also that is found in the traditional market using the famous blockchain technology, and these coin will serve as utility coin that will be used for payment on their platform, and also a stable coin that will be used to make cryptocurrency payment without the fear of volatility, it is not every coin that you see in the market presently that serves as investment.

Look at tether, there are millions of dollars being pumped into it from time to time, but yet, it still cannot be used as investment. Libra also will not be different from that aspect.

While I will not be buying it as an investment (unlike BTC and others), I might use it as fiat equivalent in daily transactions (alongside other stablecoins).
Would very much like to see how it will fare in volatility versus USDT and others stablecoins. and how daily fiat FX trading will affect its own "stability".

The other day Zuckerberg said that he did not abandon his plans to launch Libra and stressed that he would spend as much time and effort as it would take to persuade regulators to his side, so it is not known when the release is planned, perhaps everything will be transferred and postponed as usual, but I also will not be surprised that Libra has long been cooperating with the authorities and the Facebook project is a cover.

Well, since Libra hasn't launched yet, all we could do is to speculate what the outcome will be within next year. The quick response towards Facebook's infamous cryptocurrency among governments and central banks worldwide, shows us how worried these entities are. They largely believe that Libra will take the world by storm eventually replacing traditional Fiat as we know it. But this will greatly depend on how governments will allow Libra to grow within the mainstream world. After all, US lawmakers (where Facebook is located) have asked Facebook to halt the development of its cryptocurrency. The controversial social network company, would need to find ways to negotiate with the US government in order to launch Libra by 2020.

As long as, governments are able to gain easy access to the activity of Libra's blockchain, then they'll support its launch in every way. Knowing that Facebook has successfully shared users' private information to the government, it's expected that they'll do the same with Libra. Which is why, I believe that there's a possibility that Libra will launch with full support from governments worldwide.

If successful, then Libra would've brought Blockchain technology towards mainstream adoption. This will largely benefit the whole crypto ecosystem, as people will become interested into decentralized cryptos as well. With due time, Libra would become the world's next-generation reserve currency putting the USD down its knees. Perhaps, the US will adopt Libra as USD's successor due to the many benefits it provides.

Nonetheless, the future of Facebook's cryptocurrency is largely uncertain these days. All we could do is wait until the time comes for its launch. After that, we'll be able to know if Libra will gather traction within the mainstream world or not. Just my opinion :)

I still believe in bitcoin until later ... because bitcoin is the king of all coins ... so any coins that are launched now will not make the price of bitcoin weak ... even though facebook coin will soon be launched and facebook has a big name still sure that Bitcoin is still the king of all coins ...because we have often seen that so many coins have been launched through various ICO and IEO projects ... but still very far from BITCOIN ... so don't worry about the strength and resilience of bitcoin

Ofc, it has nothing to do with Bitcoin. A coin that is issued and controlled by Facebook, a company that collects the private information of million of its users, stands against everything that Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general were created for. The only reason you can be hyped about Libra is, that it will probably introduce a lot of people to the 'real' cryptocurrencies.

interest will be added to people who's knew to this investment place, it can help bringing more invested money and lift the value up for crypto currency just need to have more information and ideas, facebook as one of those giants inside social media it will be noticed right away.

The only reason you can be hyped about Libra is, that it will probably introduce a lot of people to the 'real' cryptocurrencies.

Exactly. Libra's centralization would effectively bring back the middleman, making Facebook the next-generation central bank of the world. Satoshi intended the Blockchain to be free from middleman for a very good reason. Corruption, manipulation, and fraud has been existent within the world's financial institutions for a long time. That's why Satoshi invented an alternative to centralized money, in order to circumvent such risks. A real cryptocurrency is about delivering a system where no single entity controls it, effectively eliminating the risk of a single point of failure.

Libra, as well as XRP, greatly defeats the purpose of a Blockchain. Despite the facts, Libra may very well bring a lot of attention within the mainstream world. It's main purpose is to be a stablecoin backed by the USD where the "unbanked" could gain access to finance in an easy manner. Whenever it's successful or not, it's yet to be seen as it has not even launched yet. With the many regulatory hurdles to get pass through, it might be unlikely that Facebook will be launching Libra by 2020.

Nonetheless, it's becoming evident that Blockchain technology is the way of the future (especially for finance). Whenever it'll be via Facebook's Libra, a government-issued digital currency, or even Bitcoin itself, we cannot know for certainty. But at least, we know that Blockchain will be a part of our lives one way or the other. Just my thoughts ;D

Too many new coins have sprung up and they say that this new coin will replace bitcoin because what bitcoin does not have will be owned by this coin. But in reality, bitcoin cannot be replaced by any coin to this day. Even Libra will not be able to replace bitcoin if they have entered the exchange.

Exactly. There isn't a single cryptocurrency that's been able to replace Bitcoin today. Not even Ethereum, after being the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap. The situation is worse with Libra, since it's centralized whereas Bitcoin is not. Comparing both Libra vs Bitcoin are two completely different things. Facebook's aim is to dominate the world of finance by bring the stability of the USD and the flexibility of crypto with its newly proposed cryptocurrency. Whenever it'll become a success or not it's yet to be seen. Right now, Facebook is having a hard time trying to convince regulators and the government of the legitimacy of Libra.

The battle is becoming fierce for the world's largest social media conglomerate as most central Banks and governments worldwide are opposing the launch of its controversial cryptocurrency. Which is why, there's a possibility that Libra might not launch after all. However, if Facebook manages to do an agreement with several regulators worldwide, it'll have the "green light" for launching Libra within the mainstream world. Once it becomes a reality, then it could prove to be a direct competitor towards traditional payment processors like PayPal and Western Union. But it'll never be able to reach the level of adoption decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum have obtained for a very long time.

Nonetheless, Facebook's cryptocurrency may be just a mere idea that will be forgotten within a couple of years from now. That is if the social media giant is unable to comply with every single regulation imposed by governments worldwide. But, rest assured that crypto will be here to stay no matter what. Just my thoughts ;D

You won't be able to buy Libra for now because it isn't available. I think it is not a coins for investing because it is a stable coin and will be used for Facebook products, so it might not be availbe on exchangers.
Definitely, but there are fake sale out there selling Libra coin and investors should be very careful and smart enough not to be victim of scams.
They should continue to monitor the update which is coming for the facebook itself, of here in the forum since we can read reliable feedback from high rank members.

Libra is a stable coin and therefore it can not significantly affect the price of bitcoin or other cryptocurrency. In addition, at the moment, it is most likely that Libra will never appear. G-7 states too actively began to hinder its appearance, up to its strict ban on its territory. Therefore, Facebook has already made a statement that this project may not be implemented.

Still, we don't have complete information about how we are going to use the Libra coin, as the things are progressing we might see we can easily exchange to other coins. Let's we have to wait and see how far the governments will allow the Facebook Libra coin.

Exactly. It's still too early to tell how Libra will work or behave, as it hasn't launched yet. The best thing we could do right now is to speculate what the outcome will be once the digital currency is launched by Facebook within 2020. Even so, the company has announced (via an SEC filing) that it's uncertain if Libra will launch at all. This is probably because many worldwide governments and central banks have been opposing it every step of the way.

Still though, if the launch of Facebook's cryptocurrency takes place, there's a high probability that it'll become highly controversial within the mainstream world. After all, Facebook is well-known to violate people's privacy after the Cambridge Analytica Scandal. The social media giant could do the same thing with Libra as it obtains people's sensitive information from transactions performed on the Blockchain. With the ambition of becoming the next-generation central bank, many governments and traditional central banks are fearing its launch. Which is why, they'll do anything within their power to stop Libra from becoming a reality at all costs.

Nonetheless, Facebook's cryptocurrency may be more of an idea than anything else nowadays. After launch (if it ever happens), we'll know for sure what the implications will be for Libra as a worldwide stablecoin for the masses. Just my thoughts ;D

I think the Libra that launched Facebook is not a threat to bitcoin and other altcoins, because bitcoin remains a crypto king and every other altcoins have an advantage both in terms of the project and the interest of investors in each Altcoins.

The libra is a threat to all the coins of the cryptocurrency market because it masquerades as cryptocurrencies, although in reality it will not be a full-fledged cryptocurrency in the usual concept of this word.

Also I thought it was going to be a stablecoin? So there would be no point in buying it in the hopes of a price increase, as it would always remain a constant value.
Lol, that's what I heard as well and my guess is that OP isn't aware of this fact.  If it's a stablecoin, you might as well take all your dollar bills and stash them under your mattress, because that would be equivalent to owning Libra.  No point in "investing" in something like that, no matter how much you love Facebook (which I most certainly do not).

The libra is a threat to all the coins of the cryptocurrency market because it masquerades as cryptocurrencies, although in reality it will not be a full-fledged cryptocurrency in the usual concept of this word.
It's not a threat to anything.  In fact, there's the potential that it might get people interested in real cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, and those people might end up making money from them.  And anyway, it's waaay too soon to even speculate about that sort of thing, because FB is having one hell of a time getting this thing started.  With all the pushback from regulators, they might not even get the chance to launch it.

Indeed, and people has to understand as well that Libra is a stable coin, you can't invest in a stable coin like BTC or ETH, you only use it for payment system to ensure the value of your money won't change.

They are facing a big challenge now as they are registered in a country where regulation is so strict, maybe the government sees this as risk on their personal interest but they can't deny the launch of Libra, all they can do is to regulate to ensure tax are properly impose accordingly.

There's no doubt that prices in the cryptocurrency space is greatly affected by information in circulation and several people tend to move with the tide without an understanding and sufficient information on what the tide holds. We were all excited to hear the libra coin coming into existence, but that could be history, if the Bill to sanction companies like Facebook involvement in cryptocurrency is passed.

Directly it won't, but indirectly it will, once people get educated with what is libra and eventually use it, they will be introduce in the crypto market and they will surely know about BTC which is a good investment, not only that, this success of Libra will also become a great help for altcoins to recover as investors would certainly touch them knowing they are so much undervalued.

Your arguments sound weird. How is Libra going to help the shitcoins? And I am quite sure that by the time Libra comes to existence (mid-2020), many of the shitcoins will cease to exist. Libra can be a competitor to the altcoins (especially for stablecoins such as USDT, USDC and PAX). I can't imagine a scenario in which the introduction of Libra is going to help the alts in regaining their lost value. It may help Bitcoin, because many of the Libra users may shift to BTC in the future. But I don't think that any of them will shift to altcoins.

In case everything goes as planned for Libra, then the coin will be introduced sometime in 2020. The point to remember here is that Libra is supposed to be a centralized stablecoin, unlike Bitcoin which is a decentralized dynamic coin. Many of the existing FB users will start using Libra (and the vast majority will be using crypto for the first time in their life), and after a while many of them will start exploring BTC. Introduction of Libra can result in more users to BTC in the long run.

Fingers crossed, everyone waiting for the crypto to be launched first so we really see their main function because there has been so many rumors surrounding their functions, some has rumored that Facebook coin will simply be used within Facebook system and will only be just a stable coin that would be pegged to a dollar.

We have some that has rumored that the said Facebook coin will serve as a global currency, I mean that is their intention, and would also have volatility like that of bitcoin, which means that people could use it for investment purpose, and until its release before we know if this coin will really scale through or not, but just one thing that I don’t like about the coin, that is its decentralized nature, it has no privacy and would easily be controlled.

Those who start to use Libra will eventually come to know about Bitcoin, and many of them would start using it in the future. But I don't think that the same is going to happen with altcoins. Bitcoin dominance has already hit 69%, and altcoins are drowning without any sign of a fight-back. By the time Libra is listed, many of the altcoins would be either dead or dormant.

There are altcoins out there which are centralized, similar to Libra. One example of such a coin is Ripple (XRP). There is a chance that the emergence of Libra may give XRP another round of pump-and-dump. But there is zero chance of XRP holding on to the gains, simply because it is a scam coin. IMO, some of the Libra users may start using other cryptos, including alts. But in the end, most of them will realize that holding alts is not worth the risk.

People will buy not to invest, a regular stable coin is not an investment, Libra is not different but it's just more popular and has more usage compared to our stable coins here where mostly is use to convert our BTC to avoid losing due to fluctuation.

This is not launch yet, but hopefully it will be launch as schedule and those regulatory requirements will not cause a delay on this big project.

Facebook's popularity has become a major weapon in the formation of the Libra network to attract investors. Later, Facebook users can use Libra for various activities facilitated by Facebook, for new people who are familiar with cryptocurrency will surely indirectly know about BTC and other altcoins. This would be a good magnet. Libra is rumored to be a stable coin, so I don't think it's the realm to make it compete with BTC.

There is no indication it will be a stablecoin. It will be on exchanges and will not be pegged to any fiat money like dollars, so it will move like all the othe other alts and be volatile. It will behave in the same way as the alts based on market conditions with same price movements.

As you know Facebook announced their own cryptocurrency LIBRA but various legislation needs to complete before launched, so after launch can buy but this will be stable coin and will not affect BTC price.
There is no indication it will be a stablecoin. It will be on exchanges and will not be pegged to any fiat money like dollars, so it will move like all the othe other alts and be volatile. It will behave in the same way as the alts based on market conditions with same price movements.
Oh really where does that info come from.
The only difference with Libra is that its price is made up of several fiats plus digital assets (USD + Euro + other fiat + digital assets) = Libra, if the algo to form that stablecoin is public or not no one knows right now. One thing it definitive will not be, is deflationary and will lose value over time. A new car used to be about 800 dollars.

Every private company establishing some money has been taken down because it is in direct competition to another private company the federal reserve bank.

Facebook Cryptocurrency = Inflationary, losing ~3% of value per year
BitCoin supply halving every 4 years (less and less new coins available)

The Facebook libracoin is yet to be available for purchase, Infact it's been a long time since we last heard about the project. I don't know if they will be holding a public sale or a private sale, I only hope the initiative of the project hasn't been truncated by the United States government.

What is everyone saying about the Facebook cryptocurrency Libra? I have really not been following up their waves of news. My question is, will it scale and do well?

If you say you are not following the news about Libra, why are you writing here, answering the question the guy asked? As for this FB coin, I believe that private companies, such as Facebook, which issue their own tokens and compete with fiat currencies in the free market, where participants have the opportunity to choose which is better for them to use, will bring unconditional benefit to users of digital currencies around the world.

Libra is expected to be launched by mid-2020, if everything goes as per their plan. But the problem is that not "everything" is going as per their plan. Last month, the Senate Banking Committee conducted a hearing on Libracoin. And from what I have heard, the response was mostly negative, as well as hostile. A number of senators, including Brian Schatz, Kyrsten Sinema, Pat Toomey and Chris Van Hollen participated in the hearing, with the most hostile reaction coming from Van Hollen. Schatz indirectly said that given the recent issues faced by FB (especially those related to data-privacy and election-meddling), they should not be taking the lead on a cryptocurrency project.

But they can't prevent facebook from doing their plan, maybe there will be some delays next year but I think they will successfully launch this.
It could be negative but as long as there's no law that bans this people from running a project like Libra, facebook will eventually find ways to pass all the strict requirements US government may implement to them, and I also believe that they have already foreseen all these kinds of possibilities so they are ready for this.

Perhaps, your not the only person here in the forum who are interested to buy FB coin libra, but the thing problems is that
their launching is not happening yet, actually there is no announcement so far when will be launch anyway. So, expect a huge of investors
will attempt to buy em for sure.

Unfortunately, things will not be so easy for Facebook to launch Libra as promised by 2020. We've already seen many governments opposing the same, especially the US. Since Facebook's homeland country is the US, it needs to strictly follow its regulations if it wants to have a successful launch in the future. Then, it could comply with regulations from other countries worldwide as it expands its operations. But, knowing that central banks have been in power for quite some time, it'll be nearly impossible to launch a worldwide digital currency by its own.

The biggest disadvantage of Facebook's Libra cryptocurrency would be its full transparency towards the company itself and worldwide governments. Considering that Facebook has been a threat to people's privacy, it could very well obtain sensitive information among transactions performed within the Libra blockchain. In effect, people would lack the ability to control their own money (contrary to Bitcoin and other decentralized cryptocurrencies) greatly defeating the purpose of a Blockchain. Which is why, I don't see Libra going anywhere even after its launch within the mainstream world.

Nonetheless, Facebook's cryptocurrency may only be a dream as it wouldn't be able to launch in the future because of oppressive governments worldwide. They believe that Libra will replace existing Fiat currencies as people will tend to use it more than anything else. Since governments want to maintain control of the monetary system, they won't allow this to happen anytime soon. In the bright side, Bitcoin and other decentralized cryptocurrencies will continue to function as intended for a very long time no matter what happens with Libra. Just my thoughts ;D

It's expect as not everyone has the same understand on the potential of Libra, not even all knew that Libra is a stable coin.
For me, I'm very positive that Libra will bring positive result to the future of crypto, though it's a stable coin but it's effect on bitcoin and altcoins is gonna be enormous, imagine if it's able to have at least 50% of facebook users to use the platform, maybe we can get 10% of them to be curious and eventually discover the potential of crypto in general.

I don't think Libra Coin will be a threat to Bitcoin or other cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is a digital asset while Libra Coin is a stable coin that is like fiat money. Maybe even Libra Coin will be able to increase market cap value because investors will be more confident in the existence of coins from large companies

There's yet no news of its launch probably due to some government interest and regulatory issues which have to be complied to before its launch. I'm expectant as well will invest all I can in the project if it launches.

Indeed there is still no news about Libra Coin due to regulatory issues and also its influence in the monetary world. I think the government will be disturbed by its authority in controlling the circulation of money because it is feared that with a large number of members spread throughout the world, it is feared that it will disrupt the dominance of the dollar.

Libra can pull the trigger and go to the moon, there is too much hype on this and attention from the people.
Even the token is not out in the public the demand can tell already. i hope they will go all out on public sales.
I think this Fb token doesn't need Bounty, airdrop and IEO! its all good.

.

So a private company (Facebook) which been found guilty of data mishandling can see every transaction of another private company (lets say Jeff's Locksmith) or private person (judge, solicitor, clerk, cashier, officer....... ), but (Jeff's Locksmith) cant see anything the other private company (Facebook) is doing.

It the same as playing poker, one player holding the cards facing him, and the other player must have cards face up.
That is a rigged game by any standard, a scam, the one with the face-up cards can not possible win.
A company, player par-taking in this game is not worth anything.

In connection with btc, libra will have less impact since it doesn't have any direct relation to bitcoin but with the market itself. Like for example, Bakkt, people blame the launch of bakkt after bitcoin downed a thousand dollars right after it introduced to the market, why? because it is hyped by many which has been taken by the whales for granted. New currency does not have direct affect on prices, speculation does.  ;)

Exactly. Facebook has been well-known to violate people's privacy. Imagine what the outcomes will be for a cryptocurrency backed by a company who doesn't respects its users. It'll be a complete disaster in the long run. Banks are doing quite well in this regard, as they're completely regulated by worldwide governments. They cannot steal sensitive information easily for their own benefit. If Facebook wants to become the next central bank 2.0, it would need to put user's privacy first above anything else. Then it could talk about dominating the world's economy as we know it. Considering how difficult it has been for Facebook to comply with every single regulatory measure imposed by governments worldwide, it seems very unlikely that Libra will launch anytime soon.

Even if it launches, it won't rise in price at all since it'll be a stablecoin after all. I don't get why people are so excited with this new cryptocurrency since there are already several alternatives on the market these days (as you've said earlier). Both Gemini Dollars and Stronghold USD are 100% regulatory-compliant stablecoins that serve nearly the same purpose as Facebook's Libra cryptocurrency. Which is why, I believe that Libra is overhyped within the mainstream world.

Nonetheless, time will tell us what will be the fate of Facebook's cryptocurrency launch as governments battle their way towards complete supremacy. After all, they don't want alternative currencies from taking over the existing monetary system. Which is why, I believe that Libra will fail in its entirety leading the way towards government-backed cryptocurrencies in the future. Just my thoughts ;D

I don't know why is there always a comparison between FB coin and bitcoin or even bitcoin and BNB. It sucks to know that fb coin is a stable coin and it will never be a competition to bitcoin. You'll not be able to get profits out of it since it is a stable coin. In cryptocurrency charts, rankings of different coins, growth of the coin itself could help the factor for it to achieve higher rank.

Me too; the social media having it her coin will amount to oppression and enslavement from a particular government. Haven it delay from the start of the announcement rill now, speak volume. I hope they investigate them thoroughly and get them knock out of the stage of Altcoins.
For me to invest in Libra coin, I rather invest in ripple because, ripple have user case compare to Libra  coin. Ripple won't steal my privacy for trade with the third parties, unlike what we have seen on Facebook social media scandals. Ripple can be use as a world government token.

Many rumors suggest that Libra is a stable currency like USDT, so I think its appearance will not greatly affect Bitcoin and other currencies.
After all, everyone in the cryptocurrency market wants to make a profit, but keeping a stable currency will not bring profits.
However, I still prefer Libra to be released because Facebook is a large social network and has billions of users. If FB decides to issue cryptocurrency this will greatly affect people's perceptions of the cryptocurrency market in a positive way.

Exactly. Facebook just wants to get in the game, even if it must give people's most sensitive information to worldwide governments. If it's able to launch its digital currency (Libra), it doesn't care about the rest. The fact is that Libra will become an extremely centralized cryptocurrency backed by the USD. This makes it no different from traditional banks or payment processors. Facebook will earn a lot from the network's fees, acting as the middleman. I believe that Libra cannot be called a Blockchain or a cryptocurrency since it greatly depends on a middleman. After all, Satoshi intended to remove third parties from the system with the launch of Bitcoin.

Still though, if Facebook's cryptocurrency launches successfully, then it could attract many people into it. This is true because, it already has a large user base within its social network platform. The company could encourage people into using its cryptocurrency via marketing/promotion within its social apps like Whatapps, Instagram, etc. While Libra won't be able to rise in price across the market (as it'll be a stablecoin after all), it'll surely become extremely popular within the mainstream world.

Nonetheless, time will tell us if Facebook's cryptocurrency was just an idea than something useful for the mainstream world. No matter if it launches Libra or not, the whole cryptocurrency industry will be unaffected whatsoever. Just my thoughts ;D

the news about Facebook wanting to make Libra coins no longer sound like they were previously reported throughout the world through social media.  I think if they make a stable currency called Libra.  will definitely not affect the price of Bitcoin and other altcoins.  Facebook does have a great opportunity to develop its company into the world of cryptocurrency.  especially if Facebook makes the same coins as other currencies.  whose prices can go up and down.  Everyone wants to profit if they invest in cryptocurrensy.  but if Facebook generates a stable currency, I'm sure there are no fans and this can fail automatically even though there are very many Facebook users around the world today.  but doesn't have much influence.

I think Libra Coin will make transactions in the crypto market more attractive. After Facebook announced that it would launch Libra Coin, price of bitcoin rose steadily and now above $ 13,000. I think Libra Coin will have a positive influence on the cryptocurrency market

Agree, Libra Coin will influence many new investors to invest in the cryptocurrency market. Liquidity will increase and investor confidence will continue to be maintained. In my opinion, a lot of positive effects will be felt when Libra Coin starts to trade on exchangers even though it might affect the price of existing coins

yes they dont need it as i read in thier whitepaper they have already strong partners that want to fund the idea to start this project .

There has been an announcement that facebook would be launching its own coin come 2020, and everyone is literally anticipating its launch. Judging by their whitepaper, I personally think it would be a great project, and would most definitely get the support that it needs from the general public. I guess just like myself, so many others cannot wait to see how things unfold.

Facebook's Cryptocurrency is no good because it is just another illusion by the people who want to take control of something or in short, centralization. Facebook just want to use the word cryptocurrency but the reality is they are not a cryptocurrency, they are just the digital fiat currency because they have a stable coin and one of the characteristic of a cryptocurrency is volatile and not stable.

i'll never touch that coin...
anyway the earning of Facebook and all the companies around it, will go to Bitcoin and other altcoins.

By doing this, you really make the right decision. No one in the world of blockchain and crypto wants to invest in Libra coins. Because Libra really shit a coin. The project does not have any plus features, but rather too many minus features. It is centralized, not focused on privacy, it is not clear how much the supply is.
If this project was created by another person, not by Facebook, it would probably be considered scam by everyone.

I agree, there's no telling what this Facebook coin will yield in the current market. Speculations
at an early angle seems to direct that it's not gonna do well at all. But it's not a harmful venture
to invest in them lightly from a different point of view I guess, Facebook can actually pull off
all the campaign stuff and advertising since it's a big social media platform with a massive
global following. We'll see when it launches in 2020. There's a good and bad standpoint on how
things will look and play out once Libra hits the market. I must admit I am bluntly tempted to
invest on this, but too much speculation seems unlikely.

From what I have heard is that Libra is going to be a stable coin so people won’t be able to make profits from trading unless doing the currency trading thing. Let’s see what happens with the addition of such a significant asset to the crypto market.

No need to worry about the presence of Facebook coins in this industry.
we will say (welcome facebook), if they really release soon in this industry.
with respect to facebook coins this will not affect the value of bitcoin and altcoin, but I think the existence of facebook coins will compete with other stable coins like USDT.

If Facebook decided to implement the Libra project as a service that combines all the capabilities of a payment system, with which users can use various services on the network, as well as buy and sell goods, then in this case no one would impede the development of such a project.  But the fact that Libra intends to become an independent system in general, which is controlled only by the Facebook administration, it is clear that this situation will keep very many, and especially the governments of many states, in suspense.  I understand that in many respects we blame governments and do not trust our government, but nevertheless there are certain laws in countries where governments cannot ignore certain rules.  When the government controls the money of its citizens, there are certain reasons for this and the relevant laws.  But when the money will be concentrated only on Facebook, and if problems arise, then whom will we blame and where to look for justice?  The recent buzz due to the leak of personal data of users of social networks has not yet subsided.  If there are problems with this, then how can money be safe?  I think that in this situation, not only governments, but also many people are wary of the Libra project.

In fact, they recently declared that the whole point of cryptocurrency is to be decentralized and independent, with complete anonymity of each owner.  But today, due to very frequent conversations about the legalization of cryptocurrencies, cryptocurrency users need to forget about anonymity.  But with regard to independence, it just should not be to the detriment of cryptocurrency users.  I am a very ardent supporter of ethereum and believe that such a system may be the most beneficial for the user.  I have my secret key to MEW and no name binding.  At the same time, I myself am responsible for safety.

Why is it that many in this forum saying that FB coin will pose a threat to btc and other altcoins?? It is actually a catalyst for people to engage in investing in cryptocurrency. Why? Facebook is catering billions of people in its platform. And by that, as we all know right now, social media is the best way to spread controversy, news and other trends in the society. It's time for the world to know.

I just included at the very beginning that this coin will not pose a threat since this is a stable coin in which the price will not grow.

Libra will be a good addition to crypto-market. Market trends (https://www.coincurb.com/news/) shows libra coins can be a stable coins. It can be a thread to some altcoins but it have to cover a long path to enter into the league of btc.

Curious that there is a great war around the coin which is still a project, not a real token. However, I suspect it will be released, and the hype will only help Libra to become a popular coin and the one, which will be in demand soon after its release. I think that the governments of the countries that boycott Facebook cryptocurrency will also change their strategy for the softer one.

Exactly. Facebook doesn't need to raise money since it's the world's biggest social network platform. There are many people using Facebook, where the company earns money form their data and ads. Being a billion dollar company, gives them an advantage over other established players within the Blockchain industry. They could design a robust Blockchain network that could stand the test of time. Facebook's only concern into launching Libra for the world is the disapproval of worldwide governments and central banks. Considering that these entities are opposing the launch of Libra, it's hard to believe that it'll become a reality by 2020.

Even if Facebook manages to launch Libra somehow, it won't make any difference in our economy whatsoever. After all, Libra will be a stablecoin just like Tether. Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum will continue to deliver as intended without any interruptions whatsoever. Libra's success or failure won't pose to be a threat to the very existence of cryptocurrencies worldwide. However, the ambitions of launching a global blockchain network by a company shows us how that Blockchain is the way of the future for mainstream finance. Either Facebook launches it own blockchain network, or another company will in the future. As long as the new global blockchain network gathers the approval of governments worldwide, it'll successfully launch without any interruptions whatsoever. Just my opinion :)

These events will have a domino effect and most investors will withdraw from the libra coin. because the libra project offers no new features. frankly, I don't believe Libra can add anything to the blockchain ecosystem. I don't believe that central projects in particular can add anything to the ecosystem. that's because blockchain is specifically designed to bring privacy to transactions. and I don't think Facebook will respect that privacy.

Perhaps the project / coin that Facebook developers want to present will be something magnificent and innovative, but I do not think that it will be cooler and more authoritative than the same bitcoin or the promising TON. Also, before the open access and release of this coin for a long time, a lot can change in the cryptocurrency market.

Libra is supposed to be a stable coin, is it not?  If that's true, there is no real benefit in owning it for the sake of just owning it.  This would be akin to keeping your money in a savings account that doesn't bear interest.  There might be demand for Libra if it gets past the regulatory hurdles, but if its pegged to a fiat currency like the USD you aren't going to make a profit.  I don't see the point of all this great anticipation.

Perhaps the project / coin that Facebook developers want to present will be something magnificent and innovative, but I do not think that it will be cooler and more authoritative than the same bitcoin or the promising TON.
I don't know what TON is, but Libra won't be anything even remotely close to what bitcoin represents.  The only thing I can see that it has going for it is the facebook branding which will doubtless attract a lot of Libra users.  That won't necessarily make it a good cryptocurrency.

I also have serious doubts about Libra even coming to market.  The U.S. regulators are likely to nix it before its even born.

I personally closed my facebook account after this incident. And I suggest everyone shut down their facebook account. Because our personal data is sold by facebook to third party companies. I'm sure Libra will do the same.

Me neither. I believe that Libra will turn out to be just a dream than anything else. With partnerships coming to an end, Facebook will lack the support needed to launch its cryptocurrency for the mainstream world. On top of that, governments and central banks are actively opposing its launch every step of the way. Considering that Facebook has been well-known to violate people's privacy, it could do the same with its own cryptocurrency. As you've said earlier, Blockchain technology is designed to bring privacy to transactions (in some way). Having a middleman, greatly defeats the purpose. After all, Satoshi created the Blockchain in order to serve as an alternative to the current banking system.

Libra will just act as a central bank 2.0, as Facebook (and governments too) will be able to freeze or manipulate people's transactions at will. Not to mention, it'll be a stablecoin backed by Fiat currencies like the USD and EUR. Because of these reasons, Libra won't even pose to be a threat to the very existence of decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum.

Nonetheless, I believe that Libra will fail in the long run while another centralized cryptocurrency will take the lead (possibly Ripple's XRP?). But it's nice to know that mainstream companies are becoming interested into Blockchain technology, as it tells us that it's the way of the future. Someday, we'll be able to see government-backed digital currencies powered by Blockchain technology. This will take some time before it becomes a reality. In the meantime, physical cash will be dominant until slowly but surely people decide to transition into the digital realm. Just my thoughts ;D

however libra works with many big companies there is a possibility that many promotions will be given to users.
maybe I will buy Libra if the promotion is really profitable.

Now investing in Libra is very risky because it has many claims from the us authorities. In any case, they will completely ban the Libra and all investors will lose their money, which no one will return to anyone, because it is written in the investment agreement.

I think Libra coins will not threaten Bitcoin and Altcoin. because bitcoin has been proven to last a long time on the crypto market. and now bitcoin has become the most favorite coin in the crypto market and also has a large market capitalization. so I think it will be difficult for Libra to defeat bitcoin. and libra are centralized coins. Libra coins will be controlled by Facebook. previously libra coins were supported by large companies such as mastercard, visa and paypal. but I have just heard the news that all of these companies have finally resigned from supporting libra. of course this is bad news for libra.

Also their major partners already declined their partnerships with Libra as government also  trying to influence the.  They just did. So don't know if it's going to be a hit anymore. Just the same, there will be no problems with the popularity of this coin, because it will become a convenient and fast gateway for exchanging fiat for cryptocurrency and vice versa.
In addition, the libra can become a universal means of payment, convenient and fast, because due to its centralization, the coin can be approved by any regulators, which in turn will lead to scalability of cryptocurrencies in the world as a whole.

If Zuckerberg manages to launch Libra with the approval of regulators worldwide, then I believe companies which had withdrawn from the Association will regret their decision. With Facebook's immense capital, it could make a robust Blockchain network the world has ever seen. It'll have everything necessary to boost the adoption of its digital currency within the mainstream world. Of course, the main purpose of Libra is to be a stablecoin. This would not allow it to increase further in price, but it'll surely bring massive mainstream adoption as it could be used just like Fiat.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens over time, as Facebook does its best to gain the trust from regulators worldwide. In the meantime, it seems unlikely that Libra will launch by 2020. It could either take a few more years after that to launch, or it may not even launch at all. But no matter what happens in the future with Facebook's cryptocurrency, it'll have little to no effect on traditional cryptocurrencies we know and love today (like Bitcoin and Ethereum).

Nonetheless, it's interesting to see a mainstream company having the desire of launching its own digital currency to the world. It shows us that there's huge interest into Bitcoin's revolutionary technology (Blockchain) in order to transform our economy like never before. Other companies might start doing the same, eventually disrupting our current financial system as we know it. Just my opinion :)

there is no serious threat if libra coins come in this industry and will not affect the price of btc or altcoin prices in the market, i only know that libra coins are centralized and tsama is like a stable coin (USDC / USDT) so that rising or falling centralized coin prices depend on dollar value (USD), if Libra is released soon it might affect the adoption of new crypto users.

Exactly. There's a lot of uncertainty related to Libra's launch, because of regulatory pressure from governments worldwide. The US being the principal "headquarters" of Facebook, has been very skeptical about the social media platform's newly announced digital currency. This has spurred some reaction among the world's most powerful countries where now a few have started an initiative to launch government-backed digital currencies of their own. China has announced that it'll adopt Blockchain technology for launching it's own digital currency, while German banks have requested the European Union to launch a "digital euro".

Nonetheless, it seems that Facebook's Libra cryptocurrency has encouraged worldwide governments to start devising digital currencies of their own using Blockchain technology. Once digital Fiat starts rolling in, there will be no reason for Libra to exist in the first place. Only truly decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum will live alongside digital Fiat for years to come. In the future, Libra will be remembered as a failed project that never came into light. Facebook is better off being a social network platform than anything else. It's not about Libra but how Blockchain technology can improve our economy for the better. Just my thoughts ;D

In my opinion it will not affect the price of bitcoin, and as far as I know libra has a different function than crypto. Libra is more focused on the financial system while cryptoqurrency is decentralized and profitable for investment. but if libra is coming soon, it will only affect the adoption of new users.

Exactly. Libra will be a completely different thing than we're used to within the crypto industry. It'll act more as a central bank and a Fiat currency than anything else. With its centralized model, it cannot be directly compared to the likes of decentralized cryptos like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Not to mention, its price will never change being a stablecoin and all. If by any case, Facebook manages to launch Libra sometime in the future, it'll attract lots of new people into it. After all, Facebook has a large user base compared to other popular online platforms like Twitter or MySpace. This would spur massive adoption into the Libra cryptocurrency like never before.

Still though, the chances of Facebook launching Libra looks bleak at the moment. This is especially because, governments have been against it every step of the way. With fierce regulations coming along the way, we might never see Libra become a reality soon. In the bright side, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum will remain unaffected by Libra's developments within the mainstream world. If it fails, another company or central bank could launch a new digital currency that will fulfill Facebook's vision of a cashless society one way or another. It's not about Libra per se, but rather how Blockchain technology will improve our economy (and our life) for the better. And it's been doing great ever since it came into inception with Bitcoin back in 2009. Just my opinion :)

My opinion is that if Facebook develops its own cryptocurrency, it will be very good since the audience is very large. A lot of users will learn about cryptocurrency and this will lead to the growth of the cryptocurrency market. I think that cryptocurrency from Facebook will be a reliable crypto asset. The main thing is that there would be legal regulation.

does it mean Libra is a competitor of xrp or ethereum? indeed it is very difficult for Libra to replace the position of bitcoin,
if they make a white paper that aims to replace bitcoin is impossible

not like that, libra will only be comparable to stable money and more suitable if it is called crypto money, but from a number of altcoins that exist, libra has the advantage of millions of potential users, so that it can be adopted individually with only a few requirements.

Libra and bitcoin can go hand in hand if they can be traded on the crypto market, and this is still one of the arguments being debated.

I think he will be a competitor of XRP because of its centralized nature, will not be a competitor of ETH because it does not have a smart contract
But this is good for the development of bitcoin / crypto, because with libra there will definitely be more lay people who find out about cryptocurency

I think it has not yet come into the market and has not been sold.So you can't buy it. When they announce that an exchange will arrive, you can buy it.But it may actually be a good coin in the market.

Most likely this project has already become a failure. Many investors left this project and plus Mark Zuckerberg abandoned his brainchild. Also, the Finance Ministers of many European countries are developing a bill to ban stablecoins in the European Union. Therefore, Libra is doomed to failure long before its official release.

Why do many people think Facebook coin will be a threat to Bitcoin and Altcoin, this is confusing to me. I know that Facebook has been very popular with social media, but for cryptocurrency I think it will still be a newcomer. I don't think it's that easy to reach popular.
Why? Because innocent people think that facebook is more powerful than other cryptocurrency. Since facebook is one of the largest and famous social media app on planet. There are many users of it. Bur for those who are in the field of trading even before fb coin hyped, they did not encourage to buy it easily and exchange to bitcoin or alts. It is not a threat to bitcoin.

Well, it might seem that even the Facebook team might have given up on the Libra project considering the fact that they have introduced Facebook Pay which is serving the purpose that Libra was supposed to serve in the Ecosystem but with Fiat instead of Libra's Cryptocurrencies, there are no places to purchase Libra at the moment unless you are so eager to give your hard earned money to scammers then you could probably get an "ERC-20 Libra".

It's simple, all about decentralization and Privacy; this and many more is what Facebook coin can't offer to users. Most probably, people will surely get interested once Facebook have launch its crypto because of the popularity it have right now, surely people will be able to get the news that easy once it was already been released in the market and be available to purchase. I am pretty sure that people will support this making it somehow somewhat a phenomenal out break to be an outstanding project and well-known Altcoin because people's attention will get caught to know the features of the Facebook's cryptocurrency and once the feature satisfied the crowd, maybe we will never tell that it might be close to the rank of the top Altcoins and much be get close into the rank of Bitcoin when it comes to popularity, demand and as well as the more important thing the benefit in terms of price value.

That's certainly true, mate. If Facebook's cryptocurrency becomes a reality, it might gain a greater advantage over its competitors. After all, the world's most popular social network has an extensive number of users. Libra could simply topple existing payment processors (like PayPal, Western Union, MoneyGram, etc.) as well as, centralized cryptocurrencies (like Ripple and Hashgraph) within the Blockchain industry. Being a stablecoin, will prove to be as useful as any ordinary Fiat currency would within the mainstream world. Governments have already noticed the impact Facebook's cryptocurrency will have within the mainstream world, which explains their stance against it. Facebook would need to comply with fierce regulations worldwide if it ever wants to launch its own digital currency for the world.

Libra or not, the entire crypto space will continue to operate as usual. But I believe that Libra's launch within the mainstream world, will prove to be of great use to the entire Blockchain industry as it will increase its exposure among everyday people like never before. The mere fact that there's a lot of hype for Facebook's cryptocurrency, shows us how interested people are into it. If launched, then you could expect mass adoption of this stablecoin worldwide. All in all, it looks very likely that crypto (both government-issued and non-government-issued) will replace the existing financial system as we know it. Just my opinion :)

Exactly. It's becoming harder for Facebook to launch it's Libra stablecoin within the mainstream world. With toughening regulations, we cannot expect Libra to be listed on an exchange soon. Maybe another cryptocurrency which "forks" Libra's codebase under a new name, might become successful in the long run. One thing for sure is that Facebook created Libra as an open source digital currency. So even if Facebook never manages to launch its own cryptocurrency for the world, others will be able to launch an alternative version of Libra as we know it. As a result of Facebook's announcement of Libra, we've seen many governments taking a stance against stablecoins and crypto in general. This is mostly because they're afraid that Libra will replace traditional Fiat within the mainstream world. Because of this dilemma, governments have announced that they will be launching digital currencies of their own. Countries like China, Russia, and France have already taken the necessary preparations to make this happen in the future.

But be aware that if Libra manages to gain the approval of worldwide governments, a new wave of people will join the Blockchain industry. This would largely benefit decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, we've all been fond of for a very long time. As 2020 approaches, we'll see how everything unfolds for the launch of Libra within the mainstream world. Successful or not, crypto and Blockchain tech will continue to thrive for years to come. Just my opinion :)

The excitement about Libra has passed and there is less hype around It. This coin is of no interest to me. I might as well go and buy securities and let all the authorities concerned know about it. Libra does not give the most important advantage of cryptocurrency - anonymity.
even the excitement already been fade away. many members in libra association left
big member which would give good affect, leave too, i.e paypal, visa, mastercard, ebay, etc

government pressure still makes libra can't move. I have big doubt it would launch in 2020

Increasingly more news are coming to life each day about this strange Facebook coin, however I accept on the off chance that they are going to launch  a coin and list it on significant exchanges, it could change the crypto business everlastingly, in light of the fact that Facebook has an immense crowd.

There is no way you can buy a currency that is still in the process of being regulated else they will be sued. Not sure if they will be available any time soon
