You made a good choice, 3xxx uses less power and has greater ipc than intel 14++ coffee lake. Although Intel still better in 60% of games, in productivity ryzen 3xxx wins hand down. I would have saved a lot of money if I were you, a $60 b450 motherboard can run a 12 cores no problem given 105 tdp and 142 power maximum consumption.

I always tell people... If you want to do one thing at a time only, buy intel. If you want many things open at once, like web browser, download manager, a game you alt-tab a lot, media player running, go AMD. My Pc's are all AMD's and my laptops are all Intel.

Extremely happy with my AMD's, the intels not so much.

Yeah but I have a few Taichi boards and I like them.

I could have saved 250 by going low end mobo and 2 tb hdd

Then add an Ssd I have laying around.

But this setup is pretty much state of the art.

I will pull the amd Rx 580 and add a Rtx 2080 ti I have and be done with it

A true beast. More for bragging rights then anything else.

I simply could not match the price I paid for It if I went diy. So I let them make it.

I have six months to pay 💰 for it interest free.

I bought an alienware aurora r4 system that was broken the year it came out, gutted it and put in a bulldozer black fx-8150 8-core. I STILL use it daily. Of course everything else has been upgraded since then but the AMD still delivers more power than I need ever so far. Of course I don't video edit, I assume if I did I would have wanted an upgrade by now but couldn't be happier with my purchase. I seriously can't say I have noticed a slowdown whatsoever over the years.

processors are undoubtedly good, but I would still buy video cards for mining. you can for this amount to consider the model rx570 or rx580.

To me is more of a state of more money than sense art hehe, rtx 2080 ti is old hardware already, I would get that 5700 xt, power wise x performance it will not be challenged for at least a year or so.

Monero might go full cpu only and that means a 3950x will fly on that, can't beat $750, 16 cores 32 threads. Also as he said bragging rights, this means personal state on his head, so that means more money than sense.

12 cores and up need watercooling to work properly and watercooling cost a lot of money to build and maintain cause you have to keep watching it regularly. I had watercooling setup for years, dual pumps, only those pumps used to consume 44 watts, 22 watts each and each of those pumps cost $150 usd, high end pumps. A good watercooling setup will cost around $800, finest materials, cpu only. Reason why a 3700x and a stock cooler might be the best choice here.

I have more then a few coolers that will work.

Any idea when your tests with the 3900x will start?

I'm trying to decide whether to get the 3700x and leave at default with smt on or get the 3900x and turn the smt to off. A theory I have is, if I disable smt on the 3900x I will end up with only true 12 cores and by doing that my idea is that it will use less power than the 3700x 8 cores and 16 threads. I was looking for reviews about it and i could not find it, bit disappointed no reviewers have done that.

Good luck with the system Phil.  I'd like to see if PCIe 4.0 does anything for the system whether it be mining or day to day use.  I know they have some crazy high speed NVMe drives that are supposed to take advantage of PCIe 4.0.  Looking forward to your review.

As i understand it the 3900x already maxes out the theoretical hashrate,  Ryzen 9 3900x, memory at 3200 MHz, CL 16: 11800 h/s  (6000h per channel)

New threadrippers will be a diffrent story with quad channel.

Reason why 12/24 threads and over is pointless on dual channel. For the 3900x to work best and it was proven in reviews, you need to disable smt, threads are starving in games, in productivity 24 threads still good but it depends which programs. I think up to 16 cores, smt off is good with dual channel at moment.

Funny, amd will release a 16 cores 32 threads behemoth in September dual channel, i guess they lost their mind.

I'd be interested in AVX2 performance. First gen is actually slower than AVX.
THW mentioned improved AVX performance without clarification.
I'd rather see improved AVX2 vs AVX.

Let's see how Intel responds with Cascade Lake X.

I'm curious to see the hashrate of this cpu and the 3700

Also, I would like to see some test runs for lets say --nonces 500000  :)

Since random read and write is the most important thing for real usage scenario and none of the new nvme ssds pcie4 offers any real benefit to that then I'm thinking of skipping that for just a mere b450 msi tomahawk or b450 msi gaming plus with a 3700x, i see more cons on the 3900x than benefits at moment. I'm still waiting on the 3700x review on gamer nexus with smt. The only good thing about 3900x is if you use it with smt off on games and restarting the computer everytime to turn it off and on is tiresome. I'm going with the one that i can leave with smt on, 3600, 3700 or 3900x, if i want a real good processor for multi threading then that will be threadripper, quad channel. Also cooling as well, Threadripper needs cooling and without a professional watercooling is shooting yourself in your face.

Costly.

The build was lazy man style all done by cyberpower pc.

I did order the upgraded mobo the taichi x570 which allows 2 nvme so down the road I will add a killer nvme.

The nvme I put in the build cost only  50 extra.

I would like to add a 2tb nvme down the road.

I will get a deal on the Corsair which is 449 at the moment.

So the build was about 400 cheaper with the lessor intel nvme

+50 vs +449

Eventually I will get it for 250-275. As I get some good promos with Corsair two or three times a year.

found a deal on the corsair mp600

I used retail me not

they will give me 15% up to 70 bucks on anything best buy is selling today

so 450 x 15% = 67.50 cash back.

best buy card gives 6% as I am elite plus so

450 x 6% = 25 bucks

so 67.50 + 25 = 92,50 off

so 450 - 92.50 = 357.50  for the fastest nvme 2 ssd there is

these are not referral links above.

and I will net higher as NJ has sales tax.  I will be closer to 390 for it.

if I got it in the build I would have spent 480 more.

To bad as it was a very good deal for my order and gear is not ready.

Lets see how long it takes for them to get one put together. ;D

I told them I would wait for it to come in.

Sale is cancelled so no review. Oh well.  I wish they told me they where going to back order this last week.  they waited until today. I asked them what was up the did not answer until today.  Thus While I waited for their answer.  NewEgg sold out and so did all other stores so cyberpower pc pretty much ended my ryzen upgrade plans.

I now have this part

So after many days of attempting to source parts to diy this All parts are in with the exception of the  amd ryzen 9 3900x

I will never buy from https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

as they sold my unit out from under me and then wanted 250 more along with a 2-3 week wait for a new order.

I will never buy from frys.com

as they sold my cpu out from under me after they gave me a shipping number.

Discover card on the other hand apologized for fucking up an order for the cpu and sent me a 50 dollar gift card.

I was able to order the cpu last night from best buy.

So here we go.

I'm very far away from home, at work and have been with a celeron for almost 3 years, i know is pretty crazy but I hardly saw any issue with it in many apps, for work i have few epycs with thousands of threads, personal use 2 cores and 2 threads hehe, now I have been happy with 6 cores 12 threads.

Great information. I had ordered 3900 on BhPhotoVideo and waiting for them to send for approximately 2 weeks. My plan was to put a radeonVII in this motherboard and do both Monero and Eth in the same rig. I am not sure how much RAM I should put in. Also, do I need to put such a larger SSD?

no  that ssd nmve is the highest quality ssd and in theroy the fastest one in the world.  it is 449 + tax  it is 2tb and is supposed to be 2x faster then any other ssd.

you can get a 1tb nmve style like this one

https://www.newegg.com/crucial-p1-1tb/p/N82E16820156199?  100 bucks  it will work fine

Thanks for information.
My question is that do we need such a high speed SSD?
My current build is using https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M9K0N8I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
The speed for this is see is Read/Write up to 560/520 MB/s *Performance vary by ssd model
However the one you suggested is 3 times for the $100 corsair one.

the one I used is the fastest most nvme ssd there is.

it is also   2tb in size

I then replied to you  don't buy it you almost certainly don't need that one so:

 I suggested a 1tb for 100

https://www.newegg.com/crucial-p1-1tb/p/N82E16820156199?

the one you purchased is a 128gb for 28

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M9K0N8I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?

it is not a speed question  between the crucial and the adata it is a 1tb vs a 128gb question.

to me if it is a pc I use for a lot of stuff I do not want small size drive  as I tend to fill my pc's up  with 300gb to 1.3tb  worth of info.

Thanks for clarifying.
My goal here would be just for Eth and XMR co-mining. I do not intend to do any other use for that setup. Hopefully 128GB would be enough.

Okay I set the amd 9 3900x to do nicehash xmr

And I am running 2 Rtx 1660ti  at x16r

About 48 cents on the cpu. 1124 hash

About 125 cents on the 2 x16r

So 1.73 a day. Uses around 333 watts or 8 kwatts a day.

That is about 80 cents for my winter power costs.

So it clears 93 cents with early testing.

So I bought a 3900x from bestbuy as well and got it yesterday. I then installed it on my gigabyte ab350 gaming 3 mobo with its own AMD cooler. LOL. Very excited that it can run on such an old board.

So it is mining AEON now with 70c temp. What is the best way to utilize its power in mining now? Any ideas?

Oh man. I did not really calculate before seeing your question. Now after I did that, it is 42 cents NEGATIVE...

I need to find a better way to mine. Any idea? And thanks for the question!

Well my 3900x can't reach 12k h/s. Does it have to use 3600 ram? my 3900x @.38 g with 3200 ram gets only 11400 on a vii hero, another @4.0g with 2400 ram get the same but on a cheap gigabyte ab350. really strange.

is cpu coin mining really productive? i think was dead long time ago, unless you have a bot farm, or something, monero is also changing algo against asic, so you are left with few coin, but maybe if you do instamining like in this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2683343.760, you can catch something good
