Title: Shill bidding on your own auctions?
Post by: MarshallSambell on March 15, 2014, 09:14:23 AM
I've been looking at a few of the auctions on here and I'm noticing some obvious shill bidding (bidding on your own stuff from another account to get a higher final price) on some things.

What is the bitcointalk policy on this?

Could a mod please contact me for more info.

thanks,

Marshall

It's likely exactly the same as their multiple account policy for the exact same reasons.

You can shill bid on your own auctions, but you can also expect to receive negative feedback from people rightly annoyed by this.

Maybe the forum should start an IP banning limitation which endorse one user account per IP at least for a month to take this bit under control.  :-\

I'd agree with that, and I think that if people don't want their auction to sell at below a certain price they should have their starting bid at that price.

Multi accounts is allowed by theymos. I don't think this will happen.

why are multi accounts allowed? that opens up a world of opportunities for scams and other dodgy stuff.

None. Mods will do nothing here.
Caveat emptor. Eyes open, wallet closed.

If it's obvious then point it out and warn people like the rest of us do with scammers and fraudsters, no need to involve the mods unless they're hacking the website or spamming.

Multi accounts are allowed to keep business and personal accounts apart. I would love to see the old system come back though :)

Banning multi account won't stop scammers.
