Hi there
I have lost the last 8 letters of my ethereum wallet private keys. I wonder if there is a way to restore those letters. I searched the net and found out that it is possible to do it usuing a C or Python program.
If you know a way to solve my problem , please let me know

Considering the complexity of a wallet private key, the odds of guessing a 8-characters alphanumeric private keys are 1 in 2.1834E+14 (62^8). That's one in 218 trillion-plus. I don't think you have the chances of restoring those letters anymore.

Actually ethereum private keys are 64 Hex characters.

@op, if you don't know the exact positions of the missing characters, then your chances to guess your private key are practically near Zero.
If you know their positions and assuming you know the corresponding address then you can use any brute-forcing script that will try each possibility, derive its corresponding address and compare it against yours (there are 16^8 = 4294967296 possibilities)

Private keys aren't any random alphanumerics characters, they are usually encoded using some encoding scheme which means their set of characters are limited to a much smaller number.
In case of ethereum I believe it uses hexadecimal or base-16 encoding which means losing last 8 characters is equal to losing the last 4 bytes and the space to search is about 4.3 billion which is not that big a deal. But OP needs to have at least his address and preferably his public key to make this an easy possibility.

You can rely if they have feedback on this forum. On their site under testimonials they have link to their original thread on this forum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=240779.0;all    It goes on from 2013 and if they would scam anyone would be for sure written there. And they would get bad trust ratting.

If the problem you are experiencing right now is losing 8 sequences from Ethereum's private key wallet, I think there is no solution other than creating a new wallet address. Have you saved the pdf format?

Interesting I bookmarked this one 8 letters it's almost impossible, but if the wallet has a huge amount of coins and those coins has a lot of coins that have potential in the market in the future, then better go for this service, let the professionals do it, it will take a lot of time if you decide to do it by yourself.

  You are right when once you lose your private key then it recovers with problems so better keep it safe at the beginning. We use wallet to store our coin and the safety of our wallet is about the privacy of the private key that’s why it is not good to share your private key with anyone and to avoid forgetting we should write it as a message in our phone.

Sorry about losing some letters of your private key but next time try to be more careful. About retrieving it, your chances are almost zero. Assuming you have wallets like IMTOKEN, you can export the private key from there provided you know the wallet password, some wallets have this function.  

Sorry about that, but I think you have lost it totally.  Those private keys gives you control of your wallet and if they are tampered with will lose all access. Take your time and search for it, because I don't think there is anyone who can help you.

Woow, in the other thread the fellow lost his XRP key now here you lost your ETH keys. Am sorry to tell you that virtually no one can help you because there is a reason why it's private and remains like that. However, if you used it within an app you can play around the settings to see if there is a way out.

This is as good as lossing all characters in your private key. There are more than 1billion combination and possible guess which is highly impossible.  The best you can do now is to find the private key

I have not heard of anyone who have being able to recover his lost keys, so I don't think you will be able to access the wallet again. Sorry for that and henceforth always ensure you take adequate security steps to safeguard your assets.

Oh so sorry about this, is it that you didn't backup your private keys? I don't think you can ever get the private keys back so move on already.

Exactly, if it was so easy then we should all be very worried. That is an interesting website, I would love to see how it is done. I think you need to still have a lot of details about the wallet. I think having 8 missing letters is not so bad and if anyone can do it they can. I still don't see how it is possible but he at least has a large part of his privatekey.

This is not good at all because I don't think there have ever been a way through which lost private keys can be recovered because they aren't like accounts created with emails that can be recovered or reset by mare clicking a link. No one can help you, instead search for it in all places you can think of.

Just move on bro, you can't retrieve it. Next time try to be more careful. I had similar issue when I just started crypto, so sorry about that OK.

Privatekeys have dozens of letters. They are not bruting force all of them, but 8. And it is not brute Force simple, as coding enthusiast pointed out.

Your conclusion is completely wrong because private keys are composed by dozens of letters, not 8only.

So sorry to hear that. But losing 8 characters as it is said it will be difficult to find the right private key. What's more, is the combination of various numbers that might not be right. However, if indeed the application can promise, you need to try it as one way to recovery. But of course, you have to be patient if the hope of finding a combination of private key numbers cannot be achieved. This can be used as learning that we should be more careful next time.

if it is possible then it will be very good for everyone who lost their private key is unexpectedly but I if the possibilities not there then there will be nothing available to restore your investment and your wallet.

Well that's very hard to say that ethereum's private key is the important thing to recover your account once you lost it. It will definitely lost all your save or forgot passwords.

This is possible depending on how far you want to go on the search for the key, remember there are no impossibilities on this universe as far as technology is concern

The question, how is that happened? if 8 letters have been lost it means you're the one who did it, it could possibly that when you tried to save it , it maybe you've erased some of it which you didn't notice that. So I could say that there's no way for you to recover it  mate. It may not be lost in your account but it will remain there for life.

Well if 8 characters are last 8 characters or if you know characters position then you can try the brute force otherwise there is no chance.

I have also accidentally lost the key to my ethereum wallet, and I can still open my wallet with the keystore / json file that I downloaded when creating the ethereum wallet, you can also do this if the password when creating your wallet still remembers and you save, because after entering the keystore / json file, the next step is to enter the password we entered when creating the wallet.

What wallet do you use? if you use MEW, there is actually another option, namely Keystore. therefore, I always save my keystore to open the wallet for fear that the private key will be forgotten. and after opening through the keystore, you can look back at your private key.

I think this is a lesson for all of us, we should keep the Private key carefully, so back up multiple copies with paper, and should not save PK on the computer

I agree no wallet can be safe I wonder ho ware they going to do that, but if it's only 4 to 8 letter of private key they can brute force it, but if we are talking about the whole private key, then we are all in trouble, they should have a limitation on how they are going to retrieve those private keys

That is a big lost to yr side as restoring it is not sure , bcis non one is having or holding any if the character and it usually writing to never loss or share with anyone as that is the key to access all yr funds but now that you lost it I dont think there is remedy to it .

So u need to always write down yr private key in a private place that you can be sure to always get hands on anytime you wish.

You need to provide more details, for example if the wallet is already logged into an app like imtoken, you can easily recover the private key as long as you still have access to your password, but if that is not the case, I think there is no way to recover it, if it was possible, everybody's wallets would be vulnerable to attack.

This is a very serious issue, i don't think you can recover your private key cause the missing letters are just much. It would have been easier id it were just one or two letters missing. Next time be very careful with your keys

I dont think it can be recovered, and i believe there is no possible way, because it is very complex to remember and i think there is no programs out there that could retrieve those missing letters, if there is, then there could be a lot hackers nowadays, just understanding the situation of yourself now, if there is a program that could recovered, then there could be thousands of scammers nowadays, the best thing to do is to create another one, and keep it in the safest place on earth.

Sorry pal it can't be recovered,8 words is too much and if I may ask how did you lost it in the first place?its weird to lost 8 words from your recovery seeds when its all written in a place,can you at least explain?

I think there's no way for restore your private key and it's impposiblle. With this you get experience and will make you more careful to store your private key.

I think you should give up that wallet. Let's see if it's your mistake to be careless in storing letters.
I have also done many private key sequences of MEW wallets and I only accept that I have lost money.
Be careful for future times and you should store it in gmail and offline spreadsheets.

I think your chances of restoring your funds are very limited. This is the more reason why anytime you are creating any wallet, it is recommended that you keep an offline back up of your passphrase and keys. I just hope the funds in there is not that much to cause you much harm.

Brute force cannot recover that missing 8 letters that are too long to brute force because there are so many combinations to consider, consider this as a lost key and be sure to always have a back up copy of your private key, it's our obligation to protect our private key and make it accessible to us anytime and anywhere.

You are in big trouble bro 8 letterd is too long, better to backup your copy of your privatekey next time, its impossible to recover your lost 8 letter, backup copy of our privatekey is very important always remember that.

Sorry about that mate, but I have no seen or heard of anyone who can help retrieve private keys. They are called private keys because they are meant to be private to us alone and any loss means we should forget the account. Why not you try retracing your steps maybe you can find where you stored it.

How have you lost the letters is a big question, once you create a letter you should not only write down the private letters and store in your documents case but also store it at some private place in your computer or phone and finally at some online cloud place where only you have access with 2 FA code. I do not think if lost these letters can be guessed correctly or recovered.

How many numbers and letters will the program guess before it guess it right. If it was that simple and possible, then many accounts would have been hacked already, you see when it comes to loosing of wallet, I think there is no point asking for solution to it, and it is simply just not possible. Those people who are telling you it is possible are just simply trying it out too not because they are sure, which account has been recovered through it, and what proof do they have.

Do not just compound issue for yourself, I just hope the account you have lost your private key too does not hold much. Please next time you open a wallet, try as much as possible to back up your private key in several places, especially on a paper wallet, I think that one is easier; you can also buy a flash to back it up and probably keep it where your vital documents are.

As much as I know that it is impossible to recover Ethereum wallets private key whether it's lost partially or fully. Some websites/ people claim that they can recover it but I don't think it will work.

This is sad to hear and I don't think there is any solution whatsoever. The way Ethereum blockchain is created, only the user or creator of an account can access with the accompanying private keys without which no access can be granted. Sorry about this mate the only solution is you searching to see if you wrote it down.

 


I don't think its possible but if your wallet was imported into the new version of Imtoken, it has an option to display your private key but if not. It will really be a tough one or rather an impossible one

I can say that it is impossible to recover the password if you do not remember numbers or letters , if you could be so easy to hack that for a long time all broke into other people's private keys , so next time pay close attention to this.

Do you have huge amount of ETH or token in that wallet ? Im sorry for you if that's the case.
Anyway, you need to be careful because peoples could approach you with bad intention to steal your private key.
It is still hard to brute force your missing 8 letters from the private key, creating your own program to brute force is safer than using other's.

I thought that before you got your privatekey and you might have downloaded JSON file and what about that? have you tried to open through your JSON file? If you are not having another backup file for your address and you have lost your wallet forever because it was having multi-million chances to create a combination from 8 characters.

You should remove that wallet and create a new one. I have also experienced the feeling of losing money and I really feel very bad but we should accept the truth.
Next time, you should carefully store the seed words and make sure no one can touch it.

I think you should give up as if not simple to guess-pass and brute force even the last 8 letters in Ethereum private keys. This a reason why other private keys, you should have one more back up to access your Ethereum wallet.

I don't think it can really be done. If the amount in the purse is not very large you'd better just forget about it and have another Ethereum wallet.

I think, it's possible to guess these 8 symbols, but it will take you too long - around 3*10e12 trials.

There is no way you can obtain the lost 8 letters of your ethereum private key. It's better to accept the fact that you have lost your Ethereum coin forever and nothing can be done to help you retrieve it.  The private key is not just random numbers which can be easily guessed or calculated.  Just forget about it and move on..

If you are having coins there valued more than a few thousands bucks you can try to search for a good
famous hypnotist ,those guys are doing miracles with your mind...

Recovering 8 letters is just impossible in my opinion. some people could say there is way, well there is only if the privkey is still saved on your computer otherwise that's pretty much impossible. Except, you want to spend your resources and time to do brute-force for that 8 letters millions and maybe billions of possibilities. Not to mention that to brute force that many possibilites it'd definitely take so much times.

Its not even possible to recover 5 lost recovery words,since you lost 8 just forget the wallet and be more careful in the future,recovery seeds and private keys should be kept securely like it means the world to you.

It is going to be hard (likely impossible) to guess the 8 missing letters of your private key. I will suggest you let that wallet go and count it as a loss. Next time you have to be more careful with how you store your wallet's private keys.
