Title: How often do you invest your Bitcoin to Altcoins?
Post by: crwth on July 26, 2019, 04:31:15 AM
I have thought of this topic because I don't invest much in altcoins, just trading it to profit. I'm talking about the one you will buy that you would HODL in the long term and keeping it in your cold wallet, hardware wallet, paper wallet, or whatever you do with it as long as you keep the currency itself.

The reasons I could think are the following:

  • You invest because of the Technology of the coin And what it could bring to the cryptocurrency space
  • You know the developers and supporting them
  • You believe you could profit in the long-term
  • Because of the Name of the coin. Lol.

I'm just wondering if there are other reasons that you may have and if you agree with the ones I listed. Share it here.

I’d convert my bitcoin to some altcoins like ETH and BNB because I know those are the good coins to hold for. They grow a lot compare to other coins and beside having more coins will always be better than to just hold bitcoin alone, which for me is a very risky investment. Converting your bitcoin to altcoins is not a risk, its the trust you give to those altcoins.

For me in my opinion I focused on the technology of the coin if this is a good investment and also to their marketing strategy if how they spread to the world their project. In the reality the more you fame the more you have investor right? Like bitcoin, Bitcoin is only the 1st cryptocurrency and we respect his technology because that is a new generation of money. But if we think twice there is no other utility right? Its only because bitcoin is now very famous.

Don't be pessimistic, there are indeed many projects that eventually die and developers no longer care, but there are still projects that the development team continues to work hard on and the coins last long. You can take an example in an international project, where they continue to develop their projects, and can survive until now. for long-term investment, we will get profits.

I'm a person who loves Ethereum technology, they have a talented founder and a great team of devs. They always give the best products and respond and appreciate positively from the crypto investor community.
The way I usually trade bitcoin with ethereum is because I want more Ethereum than the money I spend.
You know, Bitcoin has been growing very well lately, and growing higher than its peers.
I took advantage of this to buy more Bitcoin, wait until Bitcoin increased, ETH reduced the price, I would use Bitcoin to buy more than ETH.

I spend on altocoins no more than 5% of my altofolio thinking of short-term, too. For example, I tend to invest in projects that are at the pre-burn stage so to speak. In 90% of case, the price will get higher. The next goal is TAN token, another burning is at the end of this month.

I do not agree with this. If this is for the new altcoin, of course there is no guarantee that they can be used for long-term investments. Because they could die in the middle of the road. So, if they die, of course you don't benefit. Unlike the case if for the top altcoin of course it will be able to get long-term profits.
I own around 10 altcoins, not including those shitcoins which I already set aside without the least effort to monitor since I have no more hope for them. The topmost reason when I buy altcoins is due to technology. But, funny as it may seem to you, it has to have a name as well. If the technology seems amazing and yet there is too slow a progress in their coin's value, I won't buy it. At the end of the day, the reason why I invest in a coin with disruptive or innovative technology, not to mention real-life use, is that it will hit the investors hard and the value of the coin will explode.

As you know if you will buy Bitcoin than this is safe investment for long run but if you buy any other altcoin than its not sure that you will get much profit but i suggest should invest in trading on daily bases and make profit from trading .

Well, actually I rarely invest in the coins using my BTC. Sometimes, converting the BTC into altcoins may be good enough, however, if we don't know the exact project to invest, we may get nothing. In this case, the reason for investment using BTC for altcoins includes the right choice of the coins itself, how the coin prospect in the future, and also technology that is implemented.

Bitcoin and any other alts like ethereum is such a good investments for a long term they have good developer and smart contracts and some experts says that btc and eth reach 10x more in the future.

The first three are true for me. I have highly limited the number of alts I invest in as they have performed poorer than bitcoin this year.
When I invest, technology is an important aspect to consider. What the token/coin intends to achieve, how user friendly the coin is and most importantly, its current and future market. Developers and community is another factor, it's what would led the coin in long term. And of course every investor expects a good profit in long term.

I'm primarily invested in Altcoin, and very rarely hold high amounts in BTC.

While the reasons that you list are true in many cases, there are other advantages to holding altcoin, I'll list 3:

    1. Staking!

Since altcoin really refers to any crypto other than Bitcoin (BTC), the only options for POW is one of many different altcoin options.

    2. Privacy

Bitcoin does not provide anonymity only pseudonymity.  For crypto to full replace cash worldwide it need to provide the same anonymity as cash, many altcoin chains provide this.

    3. Diversity of Portfolio

While it is true that, right now, Bitcoin is doing very well but leaving many altcoins in the dust.  Many altcoin investers whom were properly diversified during the past couple years saw much smoother movement in their profolio than those simply holing BTC, while these folks in this situation may currently be down from those who held BTC alone.  In time bitcoin scalability issues as well as the two other items I mentioned have the ability to revive the altcoin market.

Hope that helps to clear up why some of us choose to hold our crypto in altcoin rather than bitcoin, and in the end isn't that what cryptocurrency is really all about? Choice.

Certainly switching I bitcoin to other altcoins as the price rises just like ETH and BNB because these two altcoins are very likely to increase the price.

I don't simply invest in altcoin because of it's name only. I DYOR and I only chose those altcoins that are well established and have a strong beliefs that those coins will give me profits not just in the long run but whenever I trade them. The developer and the team has a big impact, too but I always look for each purpose. If a project has a possible goal, it may look successful.

I was an investor in altcoins when altcoin was profitable and I because bitcoin price was not easy to pay for. At the turn of the bear market and bitcoin price fell I switched to bitcoin investment and as we would have it altcoins lost strength, no I will not sell my bitcoin to splash the money on altcoin

I have created my portfolio 1,5 years ago and I am investing more every month. The reasons for that are great prices and project updates, so I am buying more of those coins that are already in my portfolio. Furthermore, I am trying to add at least one new coin per month as well.

To be realistic, the purpose of my investments is generally to make a long-term profit. And i usually prefer coins which in the Top20. Sometimes I am buy from the tokens too of that project to support the projects which i like. But even in that, I thinking that, I can sell in the long run when the coin / token price reaches a certain amount.

but you should know, one from many way to inctease our bitcoin amount is by buying altcoins my friend
and not all altcoins bad buddy, you can see ethereum, eos, cardano is a part of good altcoins project

That is my reason to invest in the altcoin, but I don't always buy whenever the price is down, but I will make sure that at that time, those altcoin is getting down. I will buy more amount no matter if I already have that coin because I believe and know that the developers can work better in the future, and they continue the project. Besides that, I will hold the most amount for a long-term and only use some amount to trade to gain more bitcoin because for that coin, and I think the price will be up and down in many times, so it is good for me to try to make a profit.
I mainly invest in coins that I consider promising with big plans for the team and their high activity. Obviously, in prospective projects I seek first to make a profit, otherwise there is no point in investing without a profit. But lately I have been trying to sell some altcoins in which I don’t see prospects and development and leave BTC because its dominance has grown significantly lately.

not every time, only when the altcoin is having good news. I trade btc-usdt more because this is more predictable, than trading altcoins that are too volatile. I only buy altcoins when there is good news, and after my target is reached, I will sell it. I don't want to repeat the same mistakes because I hold the altcoin too long.

For a trader, invest in altcoins it cannot be counted, every day they can buy lots of altcoins. it's some routine to do an analysis on the altcoin market, buy altcoins with bitcoin, then sell them again when prices have gone up. I can hardly count because its very often

From the past I always buy low price coins in the market, trading my bitcoins to it. But lately I realized it's not the way I should do to my investment. So now, I am just trading my Bitcoin to ethereum and convert it back to Bitcoin when I see some profit and it worked well. I think I just stick to just this two coins for now then see another strategy to grow my money in crypto.

All are speculative and its final outcome or goal is profit. So why not trade BTC -> Altcoin. The dependence is there but some altcoin with fomo, good news can bring better returns. I think a lot of people move according to this plan.

Last two of the reasons are the main reason for me. I invest because I think I could make a profit out of them and the coin name is very important.  :P .

Despite of the technology, the coin could fail. For example, PEARL had great technology but due to some problem the coin could rise as it was expected but rather the team divided in parts.

Next, if I had have invested a lot of money in some coin or personaly I am connected to a project then I would have support the developers. That usually does not happen for a normal trader.

People just believe that new projects can increase capital. And the old projects are not able to quickly make them rich by investing $ 10,000 in the project and having received X100, people want to change their lives. This is their strategy. But even without such investors, the market will stop going in front of and develop.

I currently gamble on altcoins, I call it gambling because most altcoins are dumping badly, I just buy low, and when it pumps, I sell-off and take little profit then wait for another dump. I set buy and sell order the same time with different fund, I hate to be on the long order book queue. Sometimes it works other times it fails.

A well decentralized Altcoin and plans to improve the coin decentralization in the future could make me hold an Altcoin long-term. I cannot build a permanent base on project that is not truly decentralized.

I will also consider the coin Roadmap, expansion plans, developer's enthusiasm, project long-term viability, concepts, strategies to capture millions of users,  etc.

Developers ideals matter most in the end. .

converting our profit to Bitcoin and altcoin is the best idea my friend
because both crypto deserve to be in our bag for long term investments

I invest in the altcoins because I have deep experience in this field. From my trading experience, the potential jewel projects don't stay out of attention so long. Choosing the best altcoin can be boring but it will worth to go all-in in case of discovering one. While bear market extends, investors arrange their altcoin portfolio and they also consider the legendary investment assets too. The vision of the project is the most important component by my side as an investor and I mind to invest in the altcoins taking into account the credibility of the team for the forthcoming years.

Do you mean converting BTC to certain altcoins?
Personally, it is rare to be done. But, sometimes, it is promising enough to convert the BTC into some certain altcoins such as Ripple, XZC, and also BNB. Of course, it may be useful when the pair of BTC and those altcoins are higher. So that we can gain more amounts of the altcoins.

My investment plan is for time, if my research advice me that this the time to invest, I take this time. I don't invest often time because this isn't rules for cryptocurrency.

Good thing that you knew how to get good signal for investing on the right altcoins. But unfortunately to think of risking my bitcoins to alts right now isn't a good plan while witnessing bloody red on my blockfolio.

Most of all you listed are the reasons I am hodling my altcoins expect the fourth option (lol), fancy name don't equals effectiveness. Another quality I look out for in the coin I am holding are their quicker transaction.
Though I didn't buy them recently nor this year but years ago and haven't regretted.
Presently, I won't even think of swapping my Bitcoin to Altcoins because first I believe the ones  I have are worth it and is enough (think I see an altcoins good enough to compete with Bitcoin) and secondly, no new altcoins created lately are worth it.

I am holding 50 % of my investments in Bitcoin and the other 50 % in altcoins. But for me Bitcoin is the most important. So I am sometimes investing in promising altcoins with a good team and community and sell the altcoin with profit to increase my bitcoin holdings.
Bitcoin should be the first place for everyone investment. I believe only bitcoin will give a huge profit either for short term investment or for long term investment. Different with altcoin, I don't know the potential of altcoin since the price only meet a decrease when bitcoin price meet a bull run a few weeks ago. And I believe for short term profit an IEO is the promising place at this time especially an IEO who launched by Binance exchange. Seems like this strategy is suitable for you, get profit from altcoin investment and the profit that you get you will store it to buying bitcoin.

Considering the state of the crypto market now, I don't really think anyone is trading their Bitcoin to invest in altcoins. Me for instance, I will rather sell my altcoins for Bitcoin than trading my bitcoin for any altcoins. There are a lot of shitcoins in the altcoin ecosystem to even consider trading or investing in them.  For me, I don't invest my Bitcoin in altcoins.... I prefer Bitcoin can any other coin...

altcoin is good, but I prefer altcoin that is still 1 to 2 years old, usually an altcoin like this which has a huge advantage when it has been widely adopted by the public,
and also the project that already has yellowpaper, this is one of the projects that I am looking for, because the project has been running halfway through, different from the whitepaper which is still limited to the concept.

But, funny as it may seem to you, it has to have a name as well.
Every coin has a name but what's funny to me is almost every coin name has been invented, including persons in the Biblical Story. Would people invest because they see "Jesus Coin"? I don't know if the developers are joking around about it or if they are believers. Sometimes, there are names not to be mocked or something like that.

I majorly invest because of the technology of the project and what people stand to gain from it. These days project team are not very sincere. they collect fund and don't carry out project development, making community to loss their trust.
This is probably the reason why the cryptocurrency space has been looking bad. The continuous developing of websites, whitepapers, marketing strategy, etc is going on full circles. It's continuous like that and people don't believe in ICO or anything related to "crowd-funding" etc.

And I believe for short term profit an IEO is the promising place at this time especially an IEO who launched by Binance exchange. Seems like this strategy is suitable for you, get profit from altcoin investment and the profit that you get you will store it to buying bitcoin.
I think having or participating in an IEO now wouldn't be so beneficial anymore, only the token holders could get most of the money from it. They could easily dump everything.

For long term investment im choose with the cheapest on 20 top coinmarketcap. And look also how the price and project going on by years to years. Probably im choose XLM,TRX and ADA for middle price im choose ETH.
Not bad, any coin in the CMC means they have volume and being traded, whether it's market-making or not, it's a good start when choosing. Are you putting it in a hardware wallet or something?

I would also buy alts to preserve the value of my coin- buying stablecoins. Ofcourse stablecoins are alts. Businesses would be better off using alts to complete trades rather than btc because it can fluntuate in value,  most times downward trend which can be huge losses for business that accepts btc.

Their current ERC-20 platform is still very popular and ETH has made a lot of money from that.
And one of the reasons I hold ETH for the past 2 years is Vitalik's professionalism and strategy. he has led the whole business in the right direction and brought big profits every year.

I only make strong altcoin investments. bitcoin is more important in my investment. altcoin is only for daily trading or short-term investments. so I will not exchange bitcoin investment assets for altcoins.
From the moment Bitcoin dominance began to grow, I more often began to hear that many transfer their altcoins to BTC, but trade in altcoins. I agree, trading altcoins makes more profit than trading Bitcoin due to higher volatility. The price of some altcoins during the day can vary many times by several tens of percent, and I use it for profit and transfer to BTC.

I think in this year, I don't invest too many altcoins because I already did that in the last year. I am glad that in the last year, all of the altcoins have reached the bottom and I can buy a lot of the altcoin and this year, I tried to sell some of them. While I sell some of them, I still wait for the next bull run of the altcoin which I am sure it will happen soon. But I will think again if I can see the top 20 coins list can get down deeper, I will buy it again to add more coins in my wallet.

I do not have only one scheme of investing in cryptocurrency. I guess the first moment we must remember here about is the market waving, although it seems very simple to some people. It is evident that I do not invest in tokens and BTC when they are on the top. On the other hand, when I get extra money, it is invested in new and promising altcoins.

It is a mistake to choose a project based on the promises of developers to create this or that technology. Believe me, developers can promise you anything, but to create it is much more difficult. You need to invest in something that has already been created and is working or has a working sample. Investing in promises is very risky and stupid.

The only thing that makes me want to invest in altcoins is the ability to increase profits compared to BTC. Altcoins can bring much higher profit than BTC because their market capitalization is low, it is easy to pump many times in a day. But there are also certain risks when investing altcoins, and when investing altcoins you must accept that risk.

you should add good adoption rate because of good connections to big entities. For ex: vechain got way many big connections in china alone so for me it is a very good choice to hodl for the long term because it surpasses any of its competitors when it comes to adoption rate because of its good relationship to big entities.

Achievements by the team and project vision shows a great coin for long term hold. On your list I saw "name of coin", only a noob will invest in an altcoin just because the name is appealing lol.

Now I balance between bitcoin investment and my altcoin investment. Bitcoin prices that have not increased significantly make me have to change my playing strategy for the better. Even now I plan to exchange all of my bitcoins for the altcoins I want like eth and bnb. For me, playing eth and bnb is more interesting than playing bitcoin. But I still have many considerations for making that decision. I am still monitoring the market in one more month to make a truly definite decision.

This is what I believe and always my reason in every altcoin I bought in past and until now

Though this second quarter since the bull comes back I decided to sell some alts and buy Bitcoin until last month and now I am waiting to buy altcoin again

Every month I allocate altcoins and bitcoin as my investment. I do this as a long-term investment. no matter what the price is. when I started doing research and was sure that in the future it would be good then I would still be on the data and every few months to review whether this is still suitable for investment or not
So since when you started doing this?and how long are you willing to do this?in 2018 I do same thing allocating 10% of my wage to buy crypto but stopped in December to wait the bull but suddenly it took another 5 months to happen

Bitcoin is the oldest cryptocurrency and in turn the bedrock of other cryptocurrencies. I invest confidently in bitcoin cos I know the liquidity is strong enough and noatter the rise and fall, it always remains a strong project. Recently, I invested big, more than I have ever done. Price fell shortly after that investment but am not withdrawn. It will only take time to recover, but yeah, it definitely will.

I only convert my BTC/ETH to other altcoins if I'm for sure that the project is a success if I truly believe in their mission and if they have a reasonable roadmap/goal, or if its an instant ROI. It's pretty hard to be confident when investing in an ICO since you will never know what's gonna happen with the coin value after the sale. Micro Token Offerings (https://medium.com/@StandardTokenizationProtocol/micro-token-offering-mto-4-3b91894e85bc?utm_source=lx2) are somehow giving a solution since its letting you get a price lesser than  a presales on coins that are in the exchanges already. I would always go for opportunities and coins that has a lesser risk of me losing.

People should accept the fact that we are moving fast in Bitcoin adoption and this is what we have been waiting for, Bitcoin volume is growing and countries and companies adopting Bitcoin, altcoins will have its time, that's for sure but now it's Bitcoin's time to shine.

I'm sure that bitcoin has a brighter future and will , eventually increase in price more than any altcoin out there
but , do not pass on the opportunities to invest into a decent alt when you see potential profit
never sell your bitcoin for that , though , use your profit or  "spare" money
I always consider alcoins as a shorting opportunity while bitcoin as a long term investment and a store of value

I do the otherwise instead, OP. Ever since I enter crypto, my last point has always been to change some of my altcoins to bitcoin. I don't remember changing my bitcoins to ether or any other coin.
I value bitcoin than any other altcoins to make such a decision. I am not rushing to make big profits because I know in the near future,  my little investments in Bitcoin will fetch me big.
