Title: Why is Bitcoin market dominance rising fast?
Post by: Abiky on August 15, 2019, 07:14:05 PM
Over the past months, Bitcoin has been rising in market dominance at a fast pace. Altcoins have been on a constant decline in price ever since the bear market began back in 2018. They've been the ones which suffered the most, while Bitcoin has obtained greater prominence within the crypto market.

Which is why, it wonder me wonder why Bitcoin's market dominance have been rising so fast? What could be the cause of this? Will altcoins die soon, as a result of Bitcoin dominating the whole market? Or will they still survive?

So far, Bitcoin has gained the attention of people within the mainstream world, especially since it's one of the most limited cryptocurrencies in supply with an outstanding development team. The Lightning Network is its most interesting feature yet, leaving many wondering if it will render altcoins obsolete. If this indeed happens, then Bitcoin would effectively centralize the whole crypto market. What are your thoughts about this? ???

There are too many altcoins, so its normal for some to die. Doubt they will all die, that is also unlikely.

Bitcoin has always been dominant, it has always moved the most money, and its also the most busy blockchain (and the largest).

Perhaps some people are discovering, perhaps some people finally found out it wasn't a joke.

Lightning Network is seeking to fill the niche case of the little transaction that needs to go thru instantly, the infamous coffee buy. this is still yet to be seen in actual widespread practice, but ignoring this niche, for everything else Bitcoin is doing a superb job replacing wire transfers and all non instant forms of payment.

If you can wait a day, you can pay the minimum fee of 1 sat/B, and i can't wait until they let us do 0.1 which is supposedly coming.

Paying more than 1 dollar is silly, don't let the stupid wallets decide for you what your transaction is worth. If you can wait a day don't bother with anything above 1 sat/B, those often go thru in like 1 hour. If you need it in tens of minutes probably 2 sat/B will do it. Anything else is the wallets mis-guessing things, and feedback looping themselves.

I think there is alot more awareness of cryptocurrencies today than there's ever been before. People are slowly starting to catch on and it couldn't be at a more perfect time.
Bitcoin is still in it's infancy stages, I mean, hell, we haven't even recieved any official guidance besides from the IRS, and even they are being obscure about a few things, because it is a recently new sector within finance.
I don't think that altcoins will become independent from Bitcoins until there is more regulatory guidance issued.
People are kind of playing it safe. Bitcoin is the foundation  of today's modern cryptocurrencies, so if it rises or falls, others coins will follow concordantly. At least that's how it has been up to now.
In given time, hopefully all other coins will become Stabley independent. I see it as an advantage for now. It depends on how you look at the situation, whereas others may see discord, some will see an opportunity.
 Word to the wise!  8)

There are several possible explanations about why this is happening, one is if there is an increase in the number of cryptocurrency users around the world most likely the first crypto they will ever buy will be bitcoin, this happened to me and I am sure that I am not an exception, but as they learn more about the market they will decide to diversify their holdings and will buy altcoins making the market dominance of bitcoin to go down.

Another explanation is simply that many of the altcoins in the market were not worth their price in bitcoin and that is why they have been suffering a long decline, and finally it is also possible that many investors seeing that bitcoin showed signs of a bull run decided to sell their altcoin holdings and this caused the general uptrend in the market dominance of bitcoin.

Bitcoin market dominance for fast rising because of  it's popularity and value. Whlie time had past, many people engage in crypto and they will attract with bitcoins value and they saw that many people using and patronizing it that's why demand in bitcoin keep on increasing and also some of people and investors are selling their altcoins for bitcoin. Which is the good sign for bitcoin to keep on rising.

It's been very weird since the recent bull market that rose BTC to 10,000 USD. Usually, in previously bull markets, we've seen growth throughout the markets when BTC rose, but this time BTC dominance has been stronger than ever and other coins barely rose or remained normal.

So far, Bitcoin has gained the attention of people within the mainstream world, especially since it's one of the most limited cryptocurrencies in supply with an outstanding development team. The lightning network has been great for growth, it's really helped lower costs and make microtransactions on the network much more affordable. I personally used to use ETH for smaller transactions, but I've swapped over to using BTC for everything again.

I'd like to see what happens in the future. Will, there be even more BTC dominance, or will altcoins catch up?

I give a little explanation to explain why Bitcoin dominates the crypto market.
Everytime Bitcoin prices go up, altcoin will go down. Because it takes time to adjust to the value of Bitcoin. And some traders also sell their Altcoins to take advantage of the price of Bitcoin, and set aside some of their altcoins just in case. The biggest factor why Bitcoin dominates the market is because more pairs of Altcoin to Bitcoin than other pairs to Altcoin.

Since bitcoin is the most expensive crypto coin nowadays, investors would surely crave for it that's why they always find ways to buy bitcoin whenever its price gets dumped. And even some of here are selling their altcoins just to buy bitcoins to hodl for a longer time.So bitcoin market will keeps on dominating while altcoins are slowly losing their value.

For this year performance, i believe that more Altcoin holders are now moving to Bitcoin that is why the dominance of Bitcoin reach of up to 70% for this year. Bitcoin is the most trusted crypto therefore no wonder of why this is happening now.

Due to insufficient liquidity, most alts' marketcaps are just illusions.
It is not Bitcoin's dominance rising fast but alts' fake marketcaps being debunked.

Besides: I don't think Bitcoin's own liquidity is sufficient right now compared to other assets around the world.

The reason why bitcoin dominance is rising fast is simple.
1) The news of Pompliano investing 50% of his wealth into bitcoin.
2) The altcoin market is highly manipulated and bitcoin is the most used and safe haven cryptocurrency.
3) The effect of the upcoming bitcoin halving woos a lot of new investors and experienced investors.

Close..

the major alt coins with the exception of Xmr all betrayed their promise of Asic resistant al-gore-rythms.

So when asic builders attacked with asics  gpu miners were hurt big time.

Its time for bitcoin.after a long bear market, that was going to happen.other reason is there are no alts for invest i guess.xrp, monero etc are all stable and nobody want to take a risk until there is a light to bull.bnb is trying to hold its positon with ieo and it works and gain serious volume.

simply because the number you have been looking at has never been "dominance" it was the ratio of bitcoin supply and the sum of supply of 3000+ altcoins. in 2017 alone we saw about 1200-1500 new shitcoins be created each with ridiculously large supplies. over the past 2 years a lot of them died and as they died they took their useless supply out of the market and that meant the ratio that went up in 2017 slowly came back to normal.
there was also altcoins with gigantic supplies that got pumped, there were tons of bitcoin copies that created about 18 million * whatever price they had market cap in an instant and as they all continued getting dumped and/or dying their market caps came back to more realistic prices hence the total market cap normalized and finally that ratio which you call dominance came back to a more realistic level.

I personally used to use ETH for smaller transactions, but I've swapped over to using BTC for everything again.

Ether isn't even that cheap. Transaction fees jump to $0.30-$0.50 whenever there is a lot going on. People blame Bitcoin for slow transactions, but there have been several instances this year (and a lot back in 2017/2018) where Ether transactions were stuck in the mempool for 10 or so hours due to low fees. Imagine you trying to utilize a dapp where your transaction doesn't get through.... That sucks.

I can utilize RBF and bump the fee of my Bitcoin transaction when there is a sudden increase in transaction volume. There is no such a thing within Ether. You need some technical understanding to double spend in order to not end up waiting hours, which the far majority of the people don't have.

I'm thankful this has never had the space it needed to run on top of Bitcoin.  :-X

The awareness of crypto currencies for the masses has only been possible because of the introduction of Bitcoin in the market. Every new trader that enters the crypto market and wants to invest in Crypto, first looks for or has a preference for Bitcoin.
Also, so many other altcoins have been introduced in the market now that they are cutting each orther’s share. The rise and fall of the Bitcoin has become a regular among the crypto community but it still remains dominant because of the returns in yields for the investor.

I was surprised by this tendency a couple of months ago, since I previously thought that strong Bitcoin dominance was associated with bad times and the drop in its share with the bullish trend. However, as the current situation shows, it's not true. In 2017 people invested in Bitcoin, but they were also excited about all of the opportunities that altcoins seemed to offer. It seemed like so many various use cases were linked to specific coins. And it was also the time when some thought it was too late to invest in Bitcoin to receive big profit, but finding hidden gems in the altcoin market was still an attractive option. Some lost, some won, lots of money was invested in ICOs... And then the FUD killed it all, and alts received the biggest hit.
This time people can see that Bitcoin is still alive and can be a good investment, but altcoins that lost soo much and kind of disappointed since they did not go far with their "use cases" are not attractive anymore. So Bitcoin is growing and alts are slowly dying. I still think that the best ones will survive and maybe even flourish one day, though.

My theory is, starting in 2016 and continuing with 2017, some Bitcoin whales started to accumulate shitcoins and artificially pumped them.

For nearly 1 year maybe more, people bought and sold those shitcoins from these high prices. They did it for so long, they started to think that was normal. They thought, altcoins have a solid place. They were being shilled that Bitcoin was old, outdated shitcoin. They were dumb enough to believe that shit.

When enough retards entered that trap, they finally pulled the plug.

That's how I see this. It may get bloodier. A lot.

Remember before these happened, BTC dominance was %90+.

In my opinion, why bitcoin tends to be more popular and dominate the crypto market.  Because crypto is very identical to bitcoin, so people who are new to crypto, must have known about bitcoin.  So more or less, it also influenced the dominance of bitcoin in the crypto market
I do not understand what you mean by crypto is identical to bitcoin, bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and if we're to be unfair to altcoins, it's the one and true cryptocurrency, bitcoin gave rise to the entrance of thousands of altcoins, but majority of them turned out to be shitcoins and they lack any tangible use at the moment.
I wouldn't complain about a total bitcoin dominance and total elimination of altcoins, it will tilt everyone's attention to the bitcoin, and this will enable them to safeguard their funds and put their trust in the bitcoin as altcoins at the moment are more or less shitcoins.

There are some of my friends, they are new to crypto currency.  What they know, crypto currency is bitcoin.  When asked about other crypto currencies, they tend not to know.  That's what I mean, and maybe.  That is one factor, why bitcoin tends to be more popular and dominate the crypto market.  And of course, there are still other factors that cause.  Like, what you say

Those could be the reasons why Bitcoin's market dominance has been rising at an exponential rate. Since it's the first cryptocurrency that came into existence, it has managed to gather a lot of attention within the mainstream world. All the eyes are within Bitcoin's latest developments as it could affect or benefit other cryptocurrencies in the space. Compared with other altcoins, Bitcoin has the most level of adoption among merchants, businesses, and individuals alike. Not to mention, its development and innovation is far superior than most well-known altcoins in existence today.

With the Lightning Network, several privacy solutions, and smart contracts (with Rootstock), Bitcoin is the true leader within the crypto space. That's why it's being largely used as crypto's reserve currency on the market. As Bitcoin's market dominance grows over time, altcoin's prominence within the crypto space will be greatly diminished. Even so, there will be a few altcoins that will survive in the future because of their dedicated communities and development teams (like Ethereum, for example).

Nonetheless, time will tell us whenever Bitcoin's market dominance will stay that way, or it'll be reduced as altcoins start to rise once more. Knowing that Bitcoin has always been the leader of the crypto space, should give us more confidence to buy and hodl it for a very long time. Just my opinion :)

I guess, people saw that Bitcoin can recover fast after the critical fall. If you compare even its price for today with the price during the bloodbath, you will see it clearly. It cannot be said about many altcoins - most of them did not gain a lot after the fall. Thus, people are excited to buy BTC, they are inspired by the fact of his fast growth. They invest mostly in it, and it is dominating.

It is all about the network affect, because Bitcoin has been around a lot longer than most of these Alt coins. They have an advantage of being the first coin on the market and the coin that are the most widely used by customers and merchants.

A new Alt coin has to solve a problem or have a unique use case for them to take over from Bitcoin. Coins like Monero and Dash is used more by criminals, because it is more anonymous than Bitcoin for instance.  ::)

Bitcoin is doing what it needs to do and it is doing it well, so until another coin start doing the same thing a lot better, it would retain market dominance.  ;D

We can only speculate why. There seemed to be a manipulation to get it back bullish but I ain't complaining. More people know about bitcoin these days so even those that don't currently have any money in it and missed the last ath might be observing and noticing it picking up pace, decided to buy in.

As for alts going down, it's possible that people have started selling them for btc when they saw the prices rising again.

The Lightning Network will streamline altcoins that will stay and go, developers are creating new coins in the market in the hope of being an alternative for Bitcoin, in terms of fee and transactions speed, and some developers are creating new coins for their product, in the hope that people will be interested in their coin because of their products, one example is Binance Coin, which is performing pretty good in the market.

Bitcoin dominance is growing because of the full trust of the community, investors think that for the cryptocurrency to gain recognition, Bitcoin should be recognized first and foremost as the leading Cryptocurrency.

I think there is also where we need to look at and see how the birth of too many of shit projects are really killing the altcoins market, and we can also see the effect on this Ethereum coin because Ethereum may never rise if the people on the crypto community does not focus on few coins in the market, which problem so we really have in this world that over 2000 cryptocurrency wants to get solution too, that is why we have been having more of failed projects and then scam projects.

There is really need for the market to have few numbers of altcoins because they could be confusing really on which one to invest in, and this may actually be the greatest reason why many people now decided to just have their attention on bitcoin, and you know one thing with we humans is that we reason alike most times.

Bitcoin is still the major coin that we have, and only payment coin that people would ever use, we have had some coins that has come out to show  and claim they are better, but people never pay much attention to them which they don’t know, the reason why they get those community that they have is because they are just using them for now, and what they are using them for is strictly investment, which is why they are getting dumped already as they no longer yield that investment profit for the again, so they are turning back to bitcoin being the core coin that has ever been established. Henceforth, bitcoin will really be gaining so much dominance than it has ever gained in the past.

Because the market is correcting. If you go back and look at the BTC dominance pre-2016 you will see ~80% dominance for BTC used to be the norm. Now that alt coin pump is dying down things are going back to the way they were pre-2016.

that is true but it was not all because of the altcoin pumps but also a big percentage of it was because of the high rate of new coin creations. i remember back in 2017 there were days that we saw multiple new tokens appear out of nowhere and each had unbelievably huge supplies! they were practically creating millions of market cap out of thin air and in a matter of seconds.
so obviously as they are dying they are taking that fake market cap out with their death too.

The bitcoin dominance at around April or so started to advance but not as fast as a couple of weeks ago. Back in April, people were mostly selling their alts for Bitcoin and hence the given rise of BTC price and lower alt prices, especially the ratio.

However at the beginning of Aug, it had a steep rise and I am to believe it was mostly people who were trying to catch the falling knives back in June/July 2019 there were getting burnt and stopped out. Especially with Bitfinex, Bitmex, Binance offering margin trading and most likely its why the drops were so severe due to liquidations.

Bitcoin has grown more than 990% since January 2019. The crypto is following a bullish market and is anticipated to hit $20,000 by the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020.
It is only natural for some Altcoins to die off because of the number of them that are present on the market right now. Bitcoin has always dominated the market flow, and it currently holds almost 70% of the market cap.
Being the biggest blockchain and the biggest mover of money in the crypto world, Bitcoin seems to maintain its position for the future to come.

I think the overall reason why Bitcoin's dominance is rising is its bullish sentiment all over the market. The long anticipation of another strong bull run has contributed a lot to the bullish sentiment. 2018 was almost an unbelievable year, with Bitcoin losing significant value. People were selling at a loss, many due to panic. And I think most of the weak hands have been purged already within that year. 2019 is therefore full of optimism. Perhaps many believe that the right time for Bitcoin to finally rise again and be able to shatter its previous ATH is within 2019.

As regards Lightning Network, I guess it is also contributory to the overall bullish sentiment, together with a few more things such as the upcoming reward halving. All of these could certainly push Bitcoin toward a new ATH within the year.

Most of the altcoins are expected to suffer within the year. Many will also die for sure. And I am looking at it as a good way to wipe off the shitty ones. But I hope the solid ones such as ETH or LTC will remain in top shape and will somehow benefit from the bullish Bitcoin.

I wouldn't exactly say exponential though. If anything, these 2019 highs are probably a build up to a maximum of 75% or 80%, but we'll never see more than that, and never for too long. Even a maximalist has to agree that a culling of say 90% of altcoins might take Bitcoin dominance up a lot, but that kind of crypto fallout would also affect Bitcoin price, diminishing its dominance.

This is the scenario for the next few years anyway. I do believe at some point, Bitcoin will be one of very few to survive and strengthen, and "cryptocurrency" will again be synonymous only with the few that find actual use among everyday people. All other tokens will be negligible in the ocean of Bitcoin.

Agree. Bitcoin has always been the most prominent cryptocurrency to date. It's been battle-tested over time, proving to be the most secure cryptocurrency available on the market. Despite being resilient and extremely popular, it still limited in transaction capacity and privacy. There are other altcoins which prove to be better than Bitcoin in terms of features and technology. One of those altcoins is Ethereum which has faster confirmation times, cheaper fees, and most of all, smart contracts functionality. Being actively developed over the years, it has shown to be quite stable and reliable like Bitcoin is right now. It's no wonder why it's the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

Still, people seem to prefer Bitcoin on top of other cryptocurrencies because it's the one with the most merchant acceptance worldwide. All the eyes are on Bitcoin as it expands towards new heights within the mainstream world. With many improvements on the way such as the Lightning Network, Schnorr Signatures, and even atomic swaps, it's only a matter of time before Bitcoin's market dominance continues to rise towards new ATHs.

Nonetheless, Bitcoin's fast upsurge in market dominance shouldn't be a reason to worry, as it's the most trusted cryptocurrency in the world. It's always been the leader of crypto, delivering outstanding development and innovation. The more Bitcoin's dominance is, the worse it'll be for altcoins as their value will become lesser over time. In the bright side, this should allow Bitcoin hodlers to obtain more altcoins at a cheaper price. Just my opinion :)

In any case, first of all, we should not talk about the value of the cryptocurrency itself, but about what opportunities it provides to users.  At least for today, a very big problem cryptocurrency faces in the image of scalability.  It is the most rated cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum that cannot attract big businesses to their use because of their low scalability, and many authoritative people have repeatedly stated this, including Vitaliy Buterin.

Does it really surprise anyone? Before the ICO bull run started, the Bitcoin dominance was above 80%. The ICOs and the emergence of new coins took the dominance below the 40% level. Now since most of the ICOs turned out to be scams, the dominance is going back to the previous levels (i.e 80%). Right now we are at 69%, but I think 80% will be attained by the end of this year.

Bitcoin has more than tripled in 2019, and it seems like a bullish market. Also, BTC is expected to hit $20,000 by the end of this year. This could be because BTC is gaining popularity day by day, and its users are increasing in number globally.
Even now, if you ask some of the people which cryptocurrency to invest in, they’d say Bitcoin without any second thought.
With this rising dominance, it is expected for altcoins to die soon as there is very less amount of altcoins available in the market right now. Bitcoin has always dominated the market flow, and it currently holds almost 70% of the market cap.
And, I think BTC will maintain this position for the future to come.

That's certainly true, mate. The rise of the altcoin market was largely attributed to the ICO craze back in 2017. There were many investors which contributed towards the demand of various altcoins, especially Ethereum. Once the hype was over, we've seen a substantial decline in interest among cryptocurrencies on the market. Bitcoin being the world's first cryptocurrency, has managed to retain its value over time (despite being extremely volatile in prices). Considering that many people still trust Bitcoin on top of other altcoins, it's no wonder why market dominance it rising at full speed.

I believe that the more Bitcoin's market dominance is, the better it'll be as most useless altcoins will experience a loss of interest among investors and traders worldwide. Only then, useful altcoins with real use cases for the mainstream world will remain in the scene (like Ethereum and Monero). It's only a matter of time before this happens, since we're already experiencing a massive decline in most altcoin's prices across the market. Whereas Bitcoin is rising in price, other altcoins continue to decline at a fast pace. This is an odd behavior of the crypto market, considering that most altcoins tend to rise in price in the same way as Bitcoin.

Nonetheless, there's a possibility that Bitcoin's market dominance will rise even further within the not-so-distant future as the Lightning Network gains massive adoption across the mainstream world. This would enable instant micropayments at extremely low costs, proving to be quite attractive towards everyday people and investors alike. As a result, demand for BTC will rise, while it's market dominance will continue to grow at a unprecedented rate. Which is why, early adopters of BTC would greatly benefit in the long term. Just my thoughts ;D

It could be as a result of people converting there altcoins to that of bitcoin which don't really think is a good decision simply because that will not earn the more money since bitcoin value is a bit high. For one to make profit from such convention one need to wait till bitcoin value is going down against altcoins then you will need to convert all altcoins to get more bitcoin units and wait until bitcoin value start appreciating then you will be in profit.

Do remember please that the number of bitcoin is stagnant while the number of people supporting it will multiply everyday.

Yes, let us say it had been a crawling year for addition of supporters. But those are still a good sign that we are pulling more people in the bitcoin technology.
That total of number of bitcoin by now is getting shared little by little until we are holding just numbers of satoshis just so we could all share it.
At first I didnt thought about that.
When I watched rare things being discovered and other stuffs. That is when I realized bitcoin is a rare thing. Billions of people against 21 million coins.

Bitcoin is dominated by the development of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology in general.  I believe that a certain level in this area has not yet been reached.  Bitcoin will not stop its domination.
Bitcoin never losses it potentiality, is what people see's it and the really appreciate it...Bitcoin started with low reputation but the community realize its importance in the current generation which it lead into huge market adoption and as well as the trust from the community.
People never sees's it to have a bad effect, therefore they give support into this and keeping it in the high demand than of altcoins.

Simply, numerous altcoins popping the market everyday, have made Bitcoin remains the dominance.
None, of them are being different but just been a repetition of themselves.
Without Bitcoin, non of these coins would have exist and to make matter worst, the influence of most developers is not helping either.

From my own point of view, btc keeps dominating the market as a result of the crypto community, people are genuinely more inclined towards btc than any other alts out there,
the interest is more on btc than alts, even the none crypto peeps knows only btc as cryptocurrency, btc is widely use and accepted than alts, we have thousands of alts in the market but only few are recognize, but there is only one btc, almost everybody knows it and almost everybody have it or wants to have.

I am sure that everything lies in trust. When Bitcoin began to grow and develop, other altcoins only appeared, but people continued to believe in Bitcoin because of the lack of a governing body. Bitcoin is independent, and its creator is unknown, perhaps the success of the coin lies in this

For me, Bitcoin is a phenomenon that is very difficult to explain.  Of course, it can initially be assumed that Bitcoin was conceived as a means of payment, but they will never use Bitcoin for this, because even the transaction speed is not too favorable for this and there are quite a few other problems on the way to implementing these plans.  In my opinion, there are many cryptocurrencies that in terms of characteristics can be better than Bitcoin, such as Ethereum, but nevertheless, Bitcoin still holds a leading position, primarily at the expense of investors.

Honestly, the dominance of Bitcoin is alarming at almost 70% of the general market. But I think it's because investors are yet to show confidence in altcoins after suffering great and colossus losses in 2018. I wish we csn revisit the 2017 era where so much confidence was reposed on altcoins and the general market cap soared to over $800b. At that time Bitcoin dominance plummeted to below 40% and the market saw an unparrelled growth like no other.  With this current dominance, it will be very difficult for the crypto industry to record any major growth.

Crypto is increasingly popular, especially bitcoin as a pioneer of crypto of course people will be more inclined to bitcoin for their main investment. bitcoin dominance will certainly be very high compared to the others. besides crypto which is increasingly in demand from many financial systems, payments and so forth. will make bitcoin dominance even more powerful not only in the scope of cryptocurrency but also in all currencies.

After experiencing a very sharp decline, the crypto market has a hard time back up. And investors realize that in order to make the market back successfully, they must raise the price of Bitcoin. So Bitcoin now dominates the market and often big pumps happen. It is slowly the price of Altcoin is also up, but to see the Altcoin back successfully, we have to be patient.

I think there is not much of a difference among cryptocurrencies

At least, not in, say, the first dozen of them (regarding the source of their value) as their value comes through speculation anyway, so it just happens that Bitcoin is pumped now while altcoins have been dumped (rather, it was pumped and now it is about to stagnate). And technically, OP is not quite correct as altcoins had been surging for a couple of months or so in the first half of this year by far outperforming Bitcoin, which was lagging behind (even though this growth was evidently fueled by Bitcoin itself). I refer to such coins as Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, EOS, maybe Ethereum, to a degree (the latter performed more like a lame horse on juice until it finally crashed)

First of all, Bitcoin is the reserve currency of the crypto world like what USD is for the rest of fiat. Because of its first mover advantage, it has the most liquidity and it is the most recognized cryptocurrency. Hence, people interested in crypto flock first to Bitcoin, the reserve currency.

That's why when the 2018 bear market happen, altcoins crashed more than Bitcoin. And Bitcoin crashed 84% from its all-time-high.

Now that people are getting back in, the first purchase will always be Bitcoin before they discover there are other types of blockchains.

This is a four year cycle and it will repeat itself. These days altcoins have crashed to the maximum and we can soon see a bounce back in them. This is a game of patience. Those who showed patience when bitcoin was around 3000$ were rewarded as bitcoin is now worth more than 10,000$. Same thing will happen with altcoins but before the altcoins bull run they will rule out the weak hands.

I think the reason why Bitcoin seems to be gaining dominance over the crypto space is because of the interest in investing into bitcoin and the huge returns that it gives. Also, with news of bitcoin halving just around that corner, many investors want to get into this bull run of bitcoin that would come shortly.

Perhaps because of the large number of altcoins whose projects cannot produce products so investors have diverted their investment to bitcoin. In addition, in my opinion investors have begun to realize that bitcoin is a long-term asset so that they now prefer to sell their altcoin and buy bitcoin

If Bitcoin achieves 80% market dominance, then I am afraid that a lot many of the altcoins will simply die out. I don't think that so many coins can survive on so little market share. Also, in my opinion there is not going to be any altcoin bull run in the future. Bitcoin will simply surge ahead and may reach 90% or 95% eventually with the remaining market share held by Bitcoin forks (such as Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin Diamond) and the stablecoins (such as Tether, USDC, Pax, TUSD.etc). If the ICO/IEO market goes down permanently, then I don't think ETH will be left with much of a use. That coin will also inch its way towards a slow death.

It has become evident than Bitcoin will always be the leading cryptocurrency of the world because of its unparalleled development and innovation. People tend to trust it more than any other altcoin because of this. Of course, the value or price is largely determined by the investors themselves. Considering that Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency ever created with an innovative technology (Blockchain) that promises to change our economy for the better, it's no wonder why it has so many followers behind.

Personally, I wouldn't mind if Bitcoin gets a market dominance of 90% while other altcoins sink both in price and user adoption. It would greatly show us how strong Bitcoin is relative to other "copies" with no future or real uses cases at all. Despite this, there are only a select few altcoins like Ethereum and Cardano which are quite unique among the rest of the pack. As Bitcoin continues to rise in price and user adoption, we'll get to see other altcoins abandoned by the people in favor of the original cryptocurrency. Still though, crypto behaves strangely (unlike the real stock market) where no one can predict what the outcomes will be within the future.

While there's no doubt that Bitcoin transaction speeds are low, and fees are high, there's already a solution in the works that's bound to make Bitcoin bigger, better, and stronger than ever. This solution called "The Lightning Network", could take Bitcoin towards new heights in market dominance if successful. Perhaps, that's why many people say that most altcoins will be rendered obsolete or useless in the future.

Nonetheless, I believe that we're heading back to the events of 2013 where Bitcoin's market dominance was around 95%. As soon as the next bull market takes effect, Bitcoin will be the cryptocurrency with the most gains making this a reality. In the end, it's up to us as early adopters of the cryptocurrency to hodl for the long term no matter what. Just my thoughts ;D

It appears a lot of investors are beginning to lose interest in altcoins and moving to a less risky and more reliable cryptocurrency being bitcoin. This is evident in the continuous dwindling of the price of etherium being the leader of altcoins against bitcoin. A lot of persons have believed in altcoins and a lot that promised being a replacement to bitcoin but never achieved it and making a lot of persons invest in the for long term but they were a gross disappointment.

Title: Re: Why is Bitcoin market dominance rising fast?

Maybe that's because of the fact that many people lost interest in cryptocurrency already because the price dropped quite drastically than last year, but there are also still many people that believes in the prediction that bitcoin will become big again in the future, reaching $20k or even $100k. So many people choose to stay with bitcoin, which is the most valuable one rather than the altcoins. Many people sold their altcoins because they don't think they worth anymore. And i think it's just normal considering bitcoin price is more stable, i mean it's safer to be used as investment rather than altcoin that's not really safe and many of them had died already.

no, it would not make any difference at all.
just the same way when this percentage fell down to 40% it didn't change a thing. to put simply, nobody who matters (that is traders) cares about this number. it is just too meaningless. the only thing that this is used for is in news sites and altcoin advertisers.
other than that, the altcoins will continue their death while getting some pumps from time to time that revives them for a small amount of time.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I was talking about a scenario where the total cryptocurrency market capitalization remains more or less constant and the Bitcoin dominance continuously increases. Right now, the total market cap is around $270 billion and I am assuming it to remain the same. As the altcoin market share goes down, their combined valuation will go from $80 billion plus, to much lower figures.

The reason why I said that the combined market cap is going remain at the current level for sometime is that the bull run is showing signs of fatigue. And before the next block reward halving (which is almost an year away), I don't see any major triggers in the cryptocurrency market which can take Bitcoin and the other cryptos to another bull rally.

They are waiting with their portfolios against the halving, also, many are still buying Bitcoin to maximize profit when the price surge, so, almost every one is thinking about Bitcoin and Bitcoin.
Obviously they do, and in fact that's the main reason why altcoins has not grown yet since the money are not concentrated in bitcoin.

With the rising of dominant, it does not bring overall positive result in the market, as it's killing the altcoins where they also bring investors in the market when they are healthy, it's been the trend in the 2nd half of the year so far and we like to see some changes on that, and hopefully the last quarter will make it possible, this market based on my observation is better if BTC will drop its dominance below 50% as it allows altcoins to breath.

But before we see the bitcoin price increase, we will see another correction at the market because now, the candle is red again, so we need to be ready to buy more bitcoin. We could hope after this correction, the price can break the higher price so then the price can increase to $12k as you want, but if the price cannot increase tomorrow, then we will see the red candle will stay at the market.

we have already seen the "correction" at the market when price started coming back down from its rise to $13000 and even went as low as entering the $9k realm momentarily.
there is no "need" for any more corrections anymore. right now all we need is the start of the rise itself. which like always takes some preparation time.

From my point of view, rising prices and increasing the amount of Bitcoin that has been mined are the main factors in market dominance. And the weakening factor of Altcoins is because most people sell their Alcoins for Bitcoin. Apart from that, Altcoins only have a few places even though they have a large number.

I am sure that the price will reach the higher price for bitcoin and altcoin together and that will make bull run will come soon. Maybe there will be a selection for the altcoin, the stronger altcoin will survive, and the weak altcoin will disappear without a chance to rise back.

They are waiting with their portfolios against the halving, also, many are still buying Bitcoin to maximize profit when the price surge, so, almost every one is thinking about Bitcoin and Bitcoin.

The way I see it, is that every halving event triggers an upsurge in price or market dominance for Bitcoin. This is not surprising, considering that Bitcoin has the most adoption within the mainstream world. In some ways, it's good for Bitcoin to continue to rise in market dominance as it makes other altcoins more attractive towards investors. Early Bitcoin investors will have greater spending power to buy as much altcoins as they can to obtain massive profits within the next bull market. For once, Bitcoin's dominance was around 95% of the entire crypto market. Rising again towards that percentage will prove to be beneficial for the whole ecosystem, in my own opinion.

Still though, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are known to be extremely volatile over time. What matters is not the price per coin or market cap, but rather how useful it is within the mainstream world. So far, Bitcoin is the most useful cryptocurrency in the world, but there are other altcoins that follow. As altcoins fall, Bitcoin rises towards new heights. The same thing could happen vice versa. In a highly speculative market, no one can determine with precision what Bitcoin's market dominance or value will be within the future. But one thing for sure, is that the pioneer cryptocurrency will remain in its rightful position for many years to come. Just my opinion :)

The market as a whole shows the maximumism of Bitcoin might be the healthiest strategy for investors, and until altcoin agrees and finally puts it low, while Bitcoin is much more discussed among investors, especially investors who support. Meanwhile, the rally has caused Bitcoin dominance to surge, and if it continues to increase in such a way, according to a crypto analyst, BTC can reach that extent and succeed to market dominance by as much as 80%.

In addition to traders and investors, Bitcoin has become interested in the Dark Net. With the help of Bitcoin, it was possible to launder money and just make transactions, it created a large coin flow one and it made Bitcoin very prevalent
I would not even encourage that aspect of dark net because if you say it has increased the market, it will only increase it temporarily because I can tell you that there is no laundered money that would stay in the market more than 24hrs, because the might only use the system to pass the money to the other part of the country which the moment it is being received, it would be processed to immediately be transferred to banks, and these type of activities usually make the market unstable and cause u type of activities usually make the market unstable and cause unnecessary FOMO.

Many people may even lose their money in the process because imagine they launder 3 billion dollars with it today, and then value increases and many people confused it for bull run, meanwhile those other party had already made provision to remove it the next day, so they will be the one to get profit and then dump the 3 billion dollars the next day crashing the market so hard.

Thanks for bringing this up. As we speak we have have closed a weekly candle above the 200MA and as long as we don't see a sudden change in Bitcoin dominance, we'll get two consecutive closes above the 200MA.

I am however not sure how much impact it will actually have since it hasn't been an average we have contacted before, either to provide support or resistance. Time will tell but the altcoin dominance chart looks quite ugly.

Altcoins lost the longer term ascending trendline that supported their dominance and it will take a miracle altcoin pump that lasts months in order to get 2 or 3 consecutive weekly closes above it.

This is the main reason why no one should be having so much faith with their altcoin holdings especially if this coins does not prove something yet. Putting a very huge amount is just a complete wasted gamble.

Bitcoin market is I think the only crypto that dominates the market. Why? cause bitcoin don't die it multiplies (eg, .01 that has a value of $102 from one user and was sent to 3 users then were divided into 4, now we have four users that has .0025/each but since the market is still dominating the price might still remain at $102 for each of the 4 users.)

Well, bitcoin is almost attaining that dominance stage, and altcoins are still all lagging behind and investors are much more interested in coins that are with real use case which some altcoins lacks. Altcoins would have been a better alternative actually to bitcoin because of its scalability but most altcoins that I see proffering solution to this are also not much better than bitcoin.

Most investors have seen that the altcoins that we have in the market now are really concerned about the store of value of their coin and how much money people can put in for investment which has diverted majority of why altcoins really exist, so only bitcoin still works in this line and reason for its continuous dominance till date. If altcoins wants to regain their dominance, they need to focus on their real use case.

Perhaps the simplest reason why the Bitcoin market dominance rising fast is because bitcoin is  first and original cryptocurrency in the world's. But in my opinion maybe because all altcoins use bitcoin as the price value. so, when the price of bitcoin rises, this automatically encourages altcoin holders to exchange the altcoin they have for bitcoin which has a greater value and this situation makes bitcoin market always dominance in every market. But its just only my opinion, maybe the fact is not like that :D

In my opinion if the price is going to be that way, altcoins like Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin, will lose interest and leave altcoin, this is a strong warning for investors to always keep a portion of one's crypto investment to stay healthy only in Bitcoin.

because bitcoin sells more money than other coins so its price moves faster because they can be certain that when they invest in it now and sell when its price rises they will earn a lot of money.

It can also be caused by the increase of projects on crypto space, the diversity it gives attracts people on different demographic, knowing an alternative coins or tokens either for investment or entertainment will encounter the word "Bitcoin" in so many ways, Bitcoin is popular and the main coin in this platform, people will trade in to get some benefits.

If we compare other altcoins against Bitcoin, we'll notice that the latter has much wider acceptance within the mainstream world. The reasons for this are obvious as Bitcoin is the world's largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Being the first original cryptocurrency in existence, it has managed to obtain a recognized branding that anyone trusts worldwide. Despite other altcoins being superior than Bitcoin in terms of transaction capacity with some additional functionalities, they're lacking the trust necessary to move on within the mainstream world. With lesser liquidity than Bitcoin and a lower degree of development, many people prefer to deal with the original cryptocurrency than anything else.

I believe that the current market situation is related to investors selling off their altcoins in exchange for Bitcoin. This brings up a greater level of demand for the pioneer cryptocurrency, allowing market dominance to rise like never before. Right now, dominance is rising faster than usual as people are losing interest into many altcoins being traded on the market today. Within a couple of years from now, Bitcoin would've obtained a market dominance of over 90% while altcoins become the minority. Even so, altcoins will continue to exist because they provide other features that are not available within the Bitcoin blockchain itself. With this diversity, people can choose from one crypto to another with ease. However, Bitcoin will be always be the reserve crypto of the market no matter what.

Nonetheless, Bitcoin's ever-rising market dominance shows us how powerful the cryptocurrency is within the mainstream world. Most altcoins will be seen as a gamble or a speculative instrument, while Bitcoin will be recognized by many as "digital gold". Which means that, Bitcoin will remain in its top position in market cap for a very long time. Just my thoughts ;D

I wish it will easily happen, we all want BTC to rise and have a new ATH, but I not likely to happen this year, I mean the chances are low although it still possible to reach a new high in the last quarter like what happen in 2017.

The concerning part for me in the growth of the market is the altcoins market, without good movement this year and bitcoin continues to recover, this might result to more increase of dominant rate for BTC to 80% or more and this ins't attractive to look at all on the overall market status.

Yes, i always saw that all others major cryptocurrency always follow bitcoin rising or downing, but other altcoins are mostly independently moving their activitie, also bitcoin definitely dominant cryptocurrency yet as others for it’s popularity and market value!

Although bitcoin dominant rising fast, the price is not following to increase, and it tends to stable at a price now. Maybe the price still waits for the right moment to increase the rate so the dominant will rise more than now. Every possibility can happen later, and we could only predict, wait, and see, while we can use this time to buy more bitcoin. Meanwhile, the price itself can increase in anytime without we know the reason behind that, but I am sure that many people wait for the price to reach the highest rate again.

The main reason why the dominance of bitcoin has grown so much now is that now everyone expects a rise in the price of bitcoin and therefore they are transferring their funds to bitcoin. Because of this, altcoins practically do not grow in price. I advise you to keep good altcoins, the situation will definitely change over time.

From a technical point of view and at the negotiation level, Bitcoin can come from a somewhat extensive accumulation stage, which means that the Altcoins have suffered great falls due to their dependence, there is currently a lot of prominence in the world, for economic problems in nations that have boosted the demand for Bitcoin.

Many analysts have confirmed the change in tendency, to bullish, although some still think that the bears will arrive, when observing the Bitcoin chart, according to Wyckoff's theory we are starting the bullish trend phase, and before that some falls and corrections occur, It is normal, the fight between bulls and bears, but given the time that Bitcoin movements have taken place, the increase in price is expected.

People worldwide are beginning to enter the Bitcoin market, they find it much more attractive to understand Bitcoin and its technology because it is the currency with more value and the most coveted than the Altcoins, some alarms that have been given so much in Argentina, Brasil, Like other countries, when accepting the negotiations with Bitcoin, it has aroused the interest of acquiring to hold, because they should know that its maximum value was for the $ 20k and that according to the news many high prices are predicted, which brings as a benefit that the demand increases .

there are always going to be a lot of people who are waiting for a crash to happen in any market and then call that a "correction" that doesn't mean bears will be back or even if the crash they expect is going to happen.
the problem with these people is that they have unreasonable expectations from the market. for example right now in bitcoin, the correction has already happened when price reached $13k and came back down to $9k. and that in a very long and sufficient time to not just be an excited market state, it was a proper correction and everything.

Bitcoin’s (BTC) parabolic advance over $12,000 has taken its market dominance above 60% for the first time since April 2017, data from CoinMarketCap

Following its rapid appreciation in recent days, the bitcoin price reached levels not seen since immediately after the end of its 2017 bull run.

The successes have come at the expense of altcoins, which have so far failed to produce similar performance. As a result, BTC dominance of the overall cryptocurrency market cap is now 62% - more than at any time in the past two years.

Bitcoin’s market cap now stands at $226 billion out of a total crypto cap of $365 billion.

Bitcoin commentators rejoiced at the latest dominance figures, with the Twitter account known as Armin van Bitcoin adding he distrusted CoinMarketCap and that the actual number was closer to 95%.

Practical evidence proves the power and stability of Bitcoin.

Well, first of all, as you say, the evolution and popularity of bitcoin has been built stronger than ever through information and forums, that makes a lot of new investors enter the market, focusing on accumulating quite a lot of bitcoin, trends in the crowd appeared, Bitcoin continued to dominate stronger. Besides, we can see the strong impact from facebook, more precisely, it's called libra coin, a crypto platform, everyone knew more than crypto through the event, especially knowing that bitcoin was the best, all of which helped bitcoin go up to an absolute dominance.

That is for sure that nothing like bull run would ever happen this year, most of us are all expectant of next year and I think next year would really be a successful one because there are so many projects that are developing right now that would continue to the growth of bitcoin in value coming year.

And also, the halving of bitcoin is expected same year, so it is very glaring that bitcoin bull run would be toward next year may and as we are having series of corrections this year, we should only be seeing it as an opportunity to accumulate as much as possible for bitcoin and even for altcoins that we see discouraging us today. There is lot that will happen in the marker of altcoin next year also. Facebook coin, amazon coin, Chinese coin are what will make crypto market boom again.

That's really an argument. Despite the increasing number of altcoins, bitcoin continues to develop, grow in price and allow us to earn on it. And he will remain a leader for a long time, everything says about it. Though among the altcoins there is a worthy technology.

Why is it concerning that altcoins aren't performing well? I think it's perfectly normal for shitcoins not being worth anything to not perform well. I do however have to point out that in dollar terms altcoins are doing fairly well. It's just their Bitcoin ratio that has dropped hard. That's what you get when you exchange your precious Bitcoins for trash.

What I find more concerning is that the same people who initially said that the dominance metric is useless, are now cheering for the dominance to be going higher and higher.

Crypto is irrational. No matter how worthless altcoins are, we'll be getting some sort of an altcoin pop at some point which will significantly decrease Bitcoin's dominance again. If enough people give up on altcoins in the coming months, the market will catch them by surprise and a massive bull run initiates due to people fomo'ing back in. It ain't done yet. The only questionable aspect is the timing.

It is because a lot of people see how Bitcoin is being adapted worldwide while it is also being used as a way to pay for any services/products they sell. This is how the blockchain technology changes the world. No one was expecting to see the price to surge up to $20k in 2017 and with the news of the upcoming halving of Bitcoin, people expect already to see a new ATH next year.

This is the reason why bitcoin is gaining more dominance in the market  because its now giving signs of positive price development that will possibly lead into bull run in the next few months unlike altcoins that are making their prices declined and never shows any positive development. So people now are more into selling their altcoins just to buy bitcoin to invest and hold.

That's certainly true, mate. Bitcoin has been trusted for a very long time, since it has been the world's first cryptocurrency with a proven track record of stability and security. When you compare other altcoins against Bitcoin, none can match its censorship-resistance and resiliency. I believe that the reason why market dominance has been rising so fast is because people became tired of most altcoins which made lots of promises without delivering real use cases for the mainstream world. Only a select few altcoins are extremely prominent with active development and innovation. Still, they're not comparable to Bitcoin because of many obvious reasons.

The more Bitcoin rises in dominance, the better it'll be as altcoins that are useless will fade into oblivion. Every day, altcoins decline in price at a faster rate than Bitcoin. Right now, Bitcoin has retained is value while most altcoins are even cheaper than they've used to be. In the end, we'll be dealing with an extremely limited number of altcoins on the market (like Ethereum, Cardano, EOS, and Litecoin) while Bitcoin remains as the "King of Crypto" for perpetuity.

Nonetheless, it's hoped that Bitcoin's market dominance will rise even further with the introduction of a stable version of the Lightning Network + Atomic Swaps. Only then, most altcoins will be rendered useless, greatly contributing towards the demand of Bitcoin for years to come. Just my thoughts ;D

What is a Cryptocurrency? Cryptocurrency Guide for beginners and learners, including Bitcoin guide.

https://cryptoguide.ch/main/main1.html

This guide says that bitcoin has very limited supply , plus after halvening comes, its going to get worse for new supplies. With its rarity,  it is already regarded as gold 2.0 by many. Given its popularity as the world's most famous coin, we shouldn't be surprise that it will have a good run in the market and probably dominate for a long time.

I am not worried at all that it will become centralized or it will kill the rest of the crypto market. There will always be a market for other cryptos and blockchains too , because for one reason, bitcoin cannot develop smart contracts and DApps.

It will eventually go back to the pre-2017 levels (i.e around 85%). Back in 2017, the ICOs took the altcoin market share from 15% to around 60%. Now this has been reduced to somewhere around 30% (including the Bitcoin forks and the stablecoins). Very few of the ICOs have been successful and even fewer have maintained the momentum over the years. So you can completely remove whatever jump the alts got from the ICOs.

My guess is that by the time the market cap reaches the ATH levels that we saw in December 2017 (i.e close to $1 trillion), the Bitcoin dominance will be somewhere around 85%. That means that Bitcoin itself will be having a market cap of $750 billion to $850 billion, resulting in an exchange rate of $40,000 to $50,000 per coin. We can expect this in the next 12 to 18 months.

It is very interesting to watch who will be the leader in the cryptocurrency market, but Bitcoin today is a constant leader and dominant, especially considering the research data of authoritative analysts that the Bitcoin market dominance index is more than 60%.  The studies were conducted by analyzing the data among all cryptocurrencies on liquidity in the market and the decrease in the value of an asset during the mass sale of coins.

Lots of solid project out there are currently down in Satoshi value, the dollar value tend to increase only,  investors are kind of panicking thereby holding up bitcoin only, such situations increase the dominance of bitcoin

The dominance of bitcoin will keep on increasing, because there are lots of scam project that came out as at the last bull season which was just meant to get money from investors,

Once such project dies off the team cash out in bitcoin, we all aware of certain amount of projects that had died off,  as such the dominance of altcoins tend to decrease while dominance of bitcoin increases

actually bitcoin is currently very stable, when it goes down it doesn't go below $ 9K and will bounce back to around $ 13K. and the influence that occurs with bitcoin can ensure that it will affect all altcoins, especially with altcoin currently running ico. this indicates the dominance and superpower of bitcoin in crypto.

One of the moments that had a great influence on Bitcoin dominance was its growth after the deepest fall of 2018. people simply understood that even the best tokens cannot ever compete with BTC. Now, the first cryptocurrency dominance is about 70% of the entire cryptocurrency market capitalization. However, in the future, it will begin to decline. Ultimately, BTC dominance will return to the range of 50-60%.

Giving bitcoin dominance 70% is an understatement and at that left for me I will say bitcoin still hold 100% dominance on all other coins in the crypto market due to the fact that all altcoins depend on bitcoin to determined their price but bitcoin is standing alone as the part finder and the king of all crypto.

More investors are focusing on Bitcoins that they forget to invest in altcoins already. Because Bitcoin is very popular, they are only focusing on buying on it rather than investing it on other altcoins and as a result it leads to increase in market dominance. Altcoins are dying slowly. Low liquidity on exchanges and a lot of them doesn't have any updates on their development. Only the strong altcoins will survive in this harsh market.

The real question here should be, why shouldn't bitcoin dominance be increasing when the so called altcoins don't have what it takes to give bitcoin a fight for it's dominance. 99% of the current Altcoins whether in IEO/ICO, already trading or in development stages doesn't have anything new to offer to the industry. They're just false hope gaining attention based on hype. Bitcoin is a working product with years of experience (10 to be precised). What then do you expect. The community is putting their trust and money in the right place that's why the dominance is increasing fast.

Agreed, that's really nicely put!

The main cause of growth is prevalence. Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency, many bought bitcoins around the world. Because of this, it turned out that Bitcoin controls the market and sets a price, while few people use altcoins in comparison with Bitcoin, because of this, the price of many altcoins only falls.

They did not forget to invest in altcoin but when investing in altcoin, they realized that the liquidity was really too poor, altcoin market lacked too many investors when whales continuously created panic selling, most of the whales' movements only work in relation to bitcoin, whales pump, whales create a trend for bitcoin to go up. For investors like us, what we do can only follow the trend, fighting whales is not a good idea when they have too much money to play with us, and gradually a fixed trend was built, establishing dominance

Due to the numerous people who are supporting bitcoin, we cannot deny the fact that it easily grows up. Another thing is the scarce supply of bitcoin help it also to grow faster. There are many times that bitcoin crashed down but it always goes up because it is volatile. That is why I can say that bitcoin is king of cryptocurrency, many people specially whales are buying it.

That's certainly true, mate. The biggest rise of altcoins was largely attributed to ICOs themselves. Ethereum was one of the altcoins on the market which benefited the most from ICO gains. It seems that 2017 was the golden year of ICOs bringing a wealth of investors like never before. By that time, Bitcoin's market dominance was pretty low compared to previous years. Once the SEC decided to crackdown on ICOs, things have changed drastically for the crypto industry. Now, the ICO trend is a thing of the past greatly diminishing the market dominance of popular alts like Ethereum and Litecoin. It's good to see Bitcoin gain traction once more, since it's the original cryptocurrency that started it all.

Before the crypto craze, Bitcoin's dominance was well above 80%. We're starting to see the same situation repeating itself where Bitcoin is rising back towards its original levels in market dominance. Sooner or later, Bitcoin will gain 90% through 95% of the whole market share leaving other altcoins in the dust. I guess that people are realizing that most altcoins don't have real use cases, selling them in exchange for BTC. In the future, we may be left with a few altcoins while Bitcoin remains as the world's largest cryptocurrency by market cap.

Nonetheless, I wouldn't worry too much about Bitcoin's market dominance rising fast. After all, Bitcoin is the reserve currency of crypto where many altcoins depend on it to succeed. It's impressive to see how far Bitcoin has reached since its inception back in 2009. Hopefully, it'll gain massive adoption within the mainstream world as it improves its blockchain network to handle millions of TPS. Just my thoughts ;D

The community of cryptocurrency is increasing day after day. That is the exact reason why the dominance is increasing. People are learning about crypto and have realized its a good investment.

Not only a good investment but has benefits in various aspects.
Like remittance purposes, the transaction fees are lower than the traditional method and definitely faster.
Aside from that, businesses are discovering the impact of blockchain technology within their operations, saving them huge amount of money.
And in this regard, the bitcoin adoption is directly influenced by the expanding usage of crypto and blockchain technology as it is the major coin involved in this whole system.

Is that a normal do not compare bitcoin into altcoins because there a lot pf altcoins become zero value due to not supported of the community, tha is own opinion that's why some altcoins are going dump.
But if look at coun market the top list altcoins are still have possiblity to increase their price if bitcoin continue to increase hit the another ATH. Nothing and nothing to wonder why bitcoin is dominat in the market because people are strongly support bitcoin.

Now, Bitcoin has been the main topic of discussion whenever cryptocurrency is been looked at by any organization or government. The community of Bitcoin will continue to grow as cryptocurrency gain more awareness.

Now, Bitcoin has been the main topic of discussion whenever cryptocurrency is been looked at by any organization or government. The community of Bitcoin will continue to grow as cryptocurrency gain more awareness.

It's no secret that Bitcoin is the world's most popular cryptocurrency. Everyone who's joined crypto land, have heard of Bitcoin one way or another. Given that it's been the first cryptocurrency ever created, it has gathered a large amount of people worldwide that trust it. After all, Bitcoin is the most secure cryptocurrency today. Because of this, we're seeing people buying Bitcoin at a greater level than altcoins. If the trend continues, then there's a possibility that Bitcoin would reach over 90% of dominance across the whole crypto market. No matter how superior other altcoins are in terms of features and technology, they can't seen to gain massive mainstream adoption like Bitcoin.

The only cryptocurrency which seems to be closer to Bitcoin in terms of market dominance is Ethereum. But even Ethereum has struggled to gain the level of popularity Bitcoin has, because it's not as old as the pioneer cryptocurrency. The more Bitcoin's price goes up over time, while altcoins are on a constant decline, the greater the market dominance of Bitcoin will be. There's no other way around it. Hopefully, by the next bull market, altcoins would rise once more in order to "balance" Bitcoin's dominance across the market. I believe that a market dominance of 50% for Bitcoin seems more fair than 90%, in my own opinion.

Nonetheless, time will tell us whenever Bitcoin will keep up dominating the whole crypto market, or a new contender takes its place. As of now, no other altcoin has proven to be as prominent as Bitcoin is, but anything could happen in the unpredictable world of crypto. Just my opinion :)

A sharp bull run has started now and many of the altcoins have gone up by 5% to 10% against Bitcoin. Ethereum has once again breached the 0.020 BTC level, after reaching a low of 0.016 BTC a few days back. I am not sure about the reason behind this sudden jump, but it looks like this time the altcoin spike is going to stay. Even coins such as TRX and XMR are going up after the recent bloodbaths.

They say Bitcoin dominance is at least 20% higher in reality. A number of participants in the cryptocurrency industry believe that it is necessary to indicate the “real” share of bitcoin. This indicator is 90-95% and is obtained due to the exclusion from the calculation of stable coins and altcoins with low liquidity. This is explained by the fact that stablecoins are not real cryptocurrencies.

Perhaps the bitcoin maximalist/whales are doing this to ensure a huge bullrun is going to happen. Another factor is that it could be the result of the ICOs and altcoins are not giving gains anymore some of the big holders sold it to buy more bitcoin. Because if I am also a whale like them, my best bet would still be bitcoin. It would still be much safer putting all my money on it than in several altcoins waiting for many ages for them to moon.

Good point. It makes sense to put all of your money into Bitcoin, being the most widely successful cryptocurrency in the mainstream world. After all, altcoin's rise was largely attributed towards the success of ICOs. Now that this trend is a thing of the past, demand for altcoins have seriously declined since 2018. Despite this, there's still hope for altcoins with the legalization of IEOs and STOs. If successful, they could experience a massive boost in price, greatly diminishing Bitcoin's market share.

As of now, Bitcoin's market dominance sits between the range of 69% to 70%. It could rise even further if it continues to increase in price as other altcoins hit the very bottom. But this shouldn't matter since most altcoins largely depend on Bitcoin to succeed (since it's the reserve cryptocurrency of the market after all). What we need to pay attention to, is the development progress of the Bitcoin blockchain. With the introduction of the Lightning Network and several other features, Bitcoin's market dominance would increase to new ATHs as we know it. Just my opinion :)

The dominance fell by 4% during the last two weeks, from 71% to 67%. Many of the altcoins have bounced back to important support levels (ETH - BTC0.0215, XRP - 2,900 Sat, Litecoin - BTC0.0074). There is obviously a sharp increase in the demand for altcoins. But I am not sure whether the trends will stabilize or not, because the IEO/ICO market is still looking very weak.

For the past 3 months, the Bitcoin prices have remained stable at $10K level. As things stand, there are not much chances of a breakout during the next few months. Perhaps for the next phase of the bull run, we may need to wait until the block reward halving in 2020 (which is another 8 months away). If profit booking occurs before that, the we can expect BTC to go back to 4-figures and the dominance to decline.

People have realized that the only coin that has the power and the will to stage a big comeback after a huge slump is the bitcoin. Some traders have loss in many altcoins in a bid trying to hit it big in altcoin and plan growing their bitcoin, they realize they just lose it all, what is left to stay safe in cryptocurrency for most people is by investing in bitcoin.

There are still some wild fluctuations in price across the crypto market. With this, Bitcoin's market dominance could rise or decline a little over time. But be aware, that Bitcoin's dominance will always be higher than that of altcoins because of many obvious reasons. After all, Bitcoin is the most trusted and secure cryptocurrency worldwide. It's the first cryptocurrency it comes to mind, when joining the world of crypto. Bitcoin may be not be as efficient as other altcoins are, but it has branding recognition, and most of all, censorship-resistance like no other. Those attributes will allow Bitcoin to remain as "King of Crypto" for a very long time.

Given how prominent Bitcoin has been lately, I wouldn't be surprised if it reaches a market dominance of 99% in the future. Only then, altcoins will control 1% of the market as they become highly unattractive among people in the mainstream world. After all, most altcoins lack true usability based only on hype and speculation. The 1% of market dominance will be largely attributed to big alts like Ethereum and Litecoin. The rest will be non-existent as we know it.

Nonetheless, with so many exciting features coming along for Bitcoin, I don't see why market dominance will decline in the future. On the contrary, it'll continue to rise slowly but surely as people become more interested into the pioneer cryptocurrency. Time will tell us what Bitcoin's fate will be for sure. But it seems that Bitcoin will remain in its rightful place in the market for years to come. Just my opinion :)

The thing is, bitcoin is recovering but altcoins is still bearish, so people think altcoins will die soon, it will not gonna happen as the future of crypto is bright.

They maybe very cheap now but we know how unpredictable this market is, let's always follow the strategy of the smart investors, when everyone is worried, then it's good to buy  because we will be able to get a cheap price but expect that even if you bought higher and you still hold, you'll be able to sell it soon with a profit.

- Bitcoin always creates an investment zone so safe for everyone, almost everyone knows the history and the numbers it brings, super profitable and super safe, regardless of how it declines, it can still become, fast or slow, depending on the level of collapse, in addition to a bit of manipulation, the dominance of bitcoin always increases very fast when bitcoin pumps work. But we can see a balance here, the pump is working on schedule, dominance needs to drop, create conditions for altcoins to operate

It is called volatile nature and the market will be fluctuative and that is called crypto market. if you want to stay in the crypto industry we need to under that how the market moves and need to predict the value and fix your trade market at the right time.

We need to choose the invest on the right coin like top listed cryptocurrencies to make the money perfectly.

There are many reasons for the rising of Bitcoin dominance fast

Major users are still not aware of altcoins especially new launched. And who are willing to invest in specific altcoins must have to buy Bitcoin first to make an investment.

The second important thing is more security and higher demand. Limited supply and distribution along with circulation.

The third one is more usable applications and implementation of BTC as media of exchange.

The fourth thing is the price of Bitcoin against fiat globally.

The fifth one is more transparency and security within the network.

And most important bitcoin has gained lots of trust and value for exchange.

Exactly. The volatile nature of cryptocurrency could either reflect higher or lower prices within an instant. It's normal to see Bitcoin with an extremely high market dominance, since it's the first cryptocurrency which started this craze. Altcoins will never outpace Bitcoin in the long run, as they lack the established branding and mainstream recognition Bitcoin has. Because of this, I believe that Bitcoin's market dominance will always be high no matter what. As more altcoins decline in price, Bitcoin's dominance will increase in a flash. With upcoming upgrades for the BTC blockchain, it's hoped that demand will increase like never before leading the pioneer cryptocurrency towards new ATHs in price and market cap.

By choosing the right coin (mostly Bitcoin), you'll be able to preserve your investment for a long time. Since Bitcoin is well-known to be a store of value that's censorship-resistant, it could gain the attention of institutional investors within the not-so-distant future. Given how the market has reacted lately, there's a high possibility that Bitcoin will increase towards a market dominance of over 85% soon. If you're an early adopter of the cryptocurrency, you'll benefit greatly from Bitcoin in the long run as you'll have greater spending power like never before.

Nonetheless, market dominance for Bitcoin is rising at a fast pace probably because most altcoins are becoming cheaper each day. The moment altcoins start rising, you could expect for BTC's dominance to stale or remain lower than it was some time ago. What matters is that Bitcoin will always be the #1 cryptocurrency no matter what its price will be in the future. Doing a smart decision by holding Bitcoin no matter what, will keep you safe in the long run. Just my opinion :)

2017 was just a bullish pace of bitcoin, this year is the real thing because many countries are started to adopting bitcoin, because they see the potential of the bitcoin that fiat money or banks can't give. Bitcoin give us decentralization the anonymity. and many people are investing into Bitcoin so I thin that is the reason why bitcoin is gaining price again. I think before the year ends, the bitcoin will hit 20k$.

I agree, because we know that Bitcoin and other altcoins are very flexible. My reason why Bitcoin dominating the crypto market is because Bitcoin has a huge amount of price unlike the altcoins it is way too far from the price of the Bitcoin.

It is basically because of the fear of the people in the cryptocurrency market and community. People are transferring their wealth from altcoin to bitcoin because they think that it is the safe bet in the cryptocurrency market because bitcoin really dictates the trend for the overall market so they don't need to worry about other things. It is like an index fund.

Actually they are still waiting for the moment where there is an increase in October, therefore all prices are not that stable in all markets, and this is not a matter of wealth but waiting for the right moment, if you see who is more trend both have the same good trend and good, it's just that bitcoin dominates in all markets, actually it's just a matter of time for movement in all markets ...

altcoin bag holders have been waiting for the rise for a long time. they keep changing that "month" when the rises are supposed to come every month or two for nearly two years and all the time their bags are losing value consistently each month.
what they don't realize is that altcoin pumps only happen in coins that are already dumped not those that they are bag holding which are still in pumped state.

It's the demand of BTC that makes it this dominance, however, I see it's not a good thing since the demand of BTC has reduce the demand of altcoins.
when the market is good, meaning the overall market, btc dominance is just around 50% and less, but since the market is bad now, people are throwing their money to btc as they know even if btc will fall it will not fall that hard compared to what will happen to altcoins.

There's been lack of interest within altcoins in general, as investors support Bitcoin in every way. This may not last for long, as altcoins are implementing innovative features for the mainstream world to use. There are many cryptocurrencies out there which are faster than Bitcoin itself. Once the pioneer cryptocurrency becomes slow and expensive again, then investors will head back to altcoins.

I believe that Bitcoin's market dominance will always be high for a good reason. After all, Bitcoin's the most secure cryptocurrency to date. No other altcoin, could match Bitcoin in terms of resiliency and censorship-resistance. But of course, this doesn't mean that altcoins will disappear altogether. Only a select few will remain in the space due to their dedicated development and innovation over time. Ethereum is one of those altcoins that will remain behind Bitcoin for years to come. When altcoins rise in price while Bitcoin remains stagnant or bearish on the market, the pioneer cryptocurrency's market dominance will decline. The same thing happens vice versa.

Nonetheless, with the level of growth Bitcoin has experienced over time, its market dominance could reach 90% and above. Before the bull market in 2017, Bitcoin used to have an extremely-high market dominance. Time will tell us how farther will the market reach as institutional investors come into play. Just my thoughts ;D

This could be also because the doubters are turning to be a believer, after doubting bitcoin, making allegations, rumors, and other gibberish things about bitcoin. I'm guessing it won't take that long for bitcoin adaptation dominate the whole world, including the Government that is been spreading FUDs to the public which is exasperating. Well they can't help but to spread bad rumors about bitcoin because they are mad for not having control on it.

it can be said why the dominance of the bitcoin market is increasing maybe because when the price of bitcoin is bullish, but if other coins (altcoin) might still not be obsolete because now we can see that bitcoin is going up, other altcoins will also go up, from that analysis it can be said that altcoin or other coins can not be said to be obsolete.

I think the reason why bitcoin market dominance is rising fast is because it is really the most popular cryptocurrency. When I first heard about bitcoin, I taught it is the only digital currency available, that is why it is the first that I have tried and because of continuous using, it became my mostly used. I think what happen to me is the same with the other new investors at first. Also, knowing the pros of using it and knowing it is the mostly used, then it is the one that will be chose. Even I will choose the most popular right? But don't get me wrong, it doesn't mean that it is the most popular also means that it is just popular. We all know what bitcoin can bring to the table.

Because of the demand, I think? We know bitcoin ever since it is the top dominating cryptocurrency it is the most used cryptocurrency and the main picture of the cryptocurrency world so it is normal for bitcoin to be at the top in dominance. Plus that most users are trading mainly bitcoin and not altcoins under bitcoin so that adds up and ended up bitcoin havin the top dominance.

because almost everyone knows many people interested in bitcoin have a lower Fraud Risk for Buyers. Transaction fees for bitcoin payments are significantly lower compared to those made for credit and debit card purchases. There is no third party involvement. so that bitcoin is trusted by many people to make transactions or invest.

I believe the best reason why bitcoin is gaining a fast market dominance is because its own market price is always in a progress. Even a lot of times bitcoin has dropped its price, it still managed to recover after a couple of days or months. Unlike altcoins that are in a continuos decline and so more investors today have sell their altcoins and buy again new coins with potentials like bitcoin.

First of all, Bitcoin is the oldest and the most popular cryptocurrency in the market. Bitcoin has Lightning Network and it speeds up the payment transactions in places that Bitcoin is used as a payment option. And of course, Bitcoin is the most valuable crypto for a long time.

Bitcoin, being the first of many, has been centre of attention on the cryptomarket for the longest, people have been able to see what you can do with it and how much money there is to be made. It has been accepted into our daily lives at some degree, and other than small daily transactions, it is doing a fantastic job. The Altcoins have their better qualities, like faster (almost instant) transactions and people are starting to see that (which is why many of them are in the green). Having said that, the mass trust in BTC like in no other currency, better or worse, so my prediction is that the market dominance will only get bigger.

Bitcoin dominance is rising because the majority of people are buying only bitcoin. Market dominance determines the popular coin in the market, the coin majority of the people are buying. There is no doubt, bitcoin is the most popular crypto with over 68% of the market dominance and the rest of altcoins got only 32% of the market.

The demand is the easy and most straightforward explanation but the real reason is there was a lot of money on the market in 2017 and 18 when people were investing in ICOs and now when those failed and so many altcoins have died people are looking for a something to weather the storm and that something is Bitcoin.

They can't pump it a lot because they lost so much money on ICOs that even if they sell now to buy bitcoin they're getting less than 10% of the money they had last year but this 10% is going to bitcoin not another new altcoin. They aren't going to be fooled twice.

Probably. After all, there's no reason why Bitcoin should be avoided in the first place. Altcoins are still inferior than Bitcoin, as they don't have recognized branding within the mainstream world. They also lack user adoption, which explains why their infrastructure is much smaller than that of Bitcoin. As the pioneer cryptocurrency improves every step of the way, we'll see a much larger audience supporting it in the future. Altcoins may have better tech and features, but they're not as reliable as Bitcoin is. For this and many other reasons, investors have chosen Bitcoin as top crypto on the market. Being the first cryptocurrency in existence, has obtained quite an advantage over its competitors.

I believe that Bitcoin's market dominance will always be higher than that of altcoins. Right now, things have stalled a little across the crypto market. But Bitcoin still is the winner with the biggest market cap on the crypto market. Within a couple of years from now, we could see Bitcoin reach a market dominance of 90% and above. After all, Bitcoin's market dominance was at its ATHs back in 2013. Time will tell us whenever Bitcoin will remain as the winner or another cryptocurrency manages to take its place on the market. Just my thoughts ;D

I'm not so sure of that. I believe that the dominance metric is taken way out of context---people first claim it's useless when Bitcoin's dominance is low, then when it's going up they start celebrating and trash altcoins.

I know a lot of people want to see altcoins vanish from the market, but that's not going to happen, regardless of how little utility they bring to the table---utility people never cared about with how they only focus on massive pumps.

If you ask why people trade altcoins, in most cases they will tell you to increase their satoshi count. The way altcoins pump and dump makes it very lucrative for traders profit. All they need is a chart. Utility is meaningless.

bitcoin dominates the crypto market in my opinion because bitcoin is the first coin in crypto and is also the most expensive value. and most people enter the crypto market because of bitcoin. and the last two years the movement of altcoin is very weak and most altcoins cannot last long in the crypto market and also now many ICOs are scams. so this makes investors not interested in buying or investing in altcoin. they prefer bitcoin which has proven to be safe and has lasted long in the crypto market. but I am optimistic that when the movement of bitcoin is good then altcoin will also be back green. maybe this recovery will take a long time.

This past few years, many cryptocurrency come up in our world and because of that we gain some opportunities from this to earn some income. One of this many cryptocurrency is the bitcoin. Bitcoin is the most famous among them and with that, it is very dominant to the market because of no. of users used this coin.

altcoin is a coin variant that was born after bitcoin. altcoin was born from the results of the development of the bitcoin source code. Bitcoin was created early is a pair with USD. thus Bitcoin is by far the largest volume in crypto trading. while altcoin, altcoin developers want to follow the popularity of bitcoin. I don't think the altcoin market will die easily either. but will change from one to the other. if someone dies, someone will be born again.

but that is not enough reason on why btc dominates and rise fast because if we take a look around , there are coins that are also trusted and profitable or i can say slight better than btc.   the only advantage of btc to them is i think the time of creation where btc is created too early before anything else.

its rising fast because btc is consider as an official crypto or the one that represents all of the cryptos.  few markets started to accept btc before and others are following , this is the other reason why its indemand

This happening is not normal but with the continuous dominance of bitcoin the other currencies are struggling and some are dying or the team members are leaving the project.

This year, the bitcoin dominance is very high. There is only one reason for it, the big whales are supporting bitcoin compare to other currencies out there therefore the alt-coins were left behind. Let's see if it will continue or other big investors will favor to alt-coins this coming 2020.

When someone introduces crypto currency to the other person and they have heard crypto the first thing that will come to their mind is the bitcoin. That's certainly true, mate. Not every altcoin will vanish from the market, as there are a select few altcoins which truly deserved to be mentioned. This is attributed towards their active development, innovation, and most of all, real use cases within the mainstream world. Ethereum is an altcoin which fits the bill nicely. Since Bitcoin lacks smart contract capabilities, Ethereum fills the gap whenever it's necessary. Other altcoins like Dogecoin and perhaps Litecoin, serves as speculative instruments for traders. They allow anyone to earn money easily as they're much more volatile than Bitcoin itself.

As for BTC's market dominance, it greatly depends on how altcoins' prices are within the market. If most altcoins are in a "bloodbath" while Bitcoin is on "the green side", then rest assured that BTC's market dominance will be at an all-time-high. The same thing happens vice versa. One thing for sure, is that Bitcoin's dominance will always be higher than that of altcoins no matter what. This is true because Bitcoin has been able to remain as the world's largest cryptocurrency by market cap for a long time. The only way for Bitcoin's market dominance to go to zero, is if another cryptocurrency takes its place on the market. But we all know that this is very unlikely to happen within the future.

Nonetheless, I believe that investors will continue to find Bitcoin as a more appealing option than altcoins themselves for a very good reason. The stability and security of the pioneer cryptocurrency has made the headlines within the mainstream world. Since it's the first cryptocurrency it comes to attention to any newcomer into crypto, it's no wonder why it's extremely popular nowadays. Just my thoughts ;D

The fact is that if you get good results from activities in the cryptocurrency market, then you need to spend a lot of time and maybe even give all your free time to trading, monitoring and analysis.  But many cryptocurrency users want to get a good income and not strain.  Under current conditions in the cryptocurrency market, it is very difficult to get easy mining.

This was not surprising because first of all bitcoin is the pioneer of all cryptocurrencies. Also, all of these is because of the support of the people who are using bitcoin. The more people who use and support bitcoin the more it will be in demand and thus will increase its value.Unlike other crypto, bitcoin already prove its credibility ro people so there is no way for it to be not trusted.

I think it's normal. People's mindset about bitcoin is that it's a more stable form of investment and is sure to stay on the market, much more reliable than those altcoins. Also, the market for altcoins is too condensed, too many altcoins are now available on the market, and the demand is distributed to these altcoins. Still though, altcoins play an important role in the market since they open the gateway to trades from alts to bitcoin. Some altcoins may not survive, but most of them will be just fine.

a simple reason, people try to avoid another coins .
people try to left such as 1000x gemstone or another shitcoins like that.

You need to be careful with Altcoins. You always need to analyze the capitalization and price of a coin, its liquidity and trading volumes. Do not rush to invest in Altcoins. First conduct a deep analysis of coin performance.

Rising faster dominance bitcoin on crypto market because bitcoin have stable price, after lower bitcoin can back very fast to higher price, maybe just one or three days bitcoin keep hold with lower price and the can back to higher price, altcoin hard for dominance in crypto market because altcoin never have give best solution after price down we need waiting more than one year for rising up of altcoin price, maybe its why less dominance of altcoin in crypto market.

Agree. Bitcoin is much more stable than most altcoins trading on the market today. Despite the price volatility, Bitcoin has managed to remain resilient against external attacks. With an immense hashrate, it's too powerful to take down anytime soon. Bitcoin has a higher degree of development activity and innovation than many of the altcoins we know and love today. For a very good reason, investors have put their faith into Bitcoin than altcoins. The greater its market dominance is, the better it'll be for the pioneer cryptocurrency. This largely reflects the adoption of Bitcoin within the mainstream world.

However, it's not an indication that altcoins will fail in their entirety. I believe that very few altcoins will survive while the rest will go down the drain in the future. Ethereum is one of those altcoins that will continue to deliver as promised for years to come. After all, it's the second largest cryptocurrency by market cap behind Bitcoin. I'd be surprised to see a Bitcoin market dominance of over 90%, while the rest (10%) will be left to altcoins themselves.

In the event that altcoins become viral once more, you could expect Bitcoin's market dominance to decrease a little. But I don't think that Bitcoin will reach a dominance below 50% anytime soon. Only time will tell us what will happen within the crypto space as new ideas and solutions start to blossom. Bitcoin's Lightning Network will be a true game changer, but its success will largely depend on how many people use it within the mainstream world. Just my thoughts ;D

For me, the acceptance of bitcoin is one of the reasons why some altcoin can't follow the market cup; even they are affordable some user doesn't like the idea to exchange their alt to another crypto then convert/transfer it again to bitcoin, because some altcoins are not acceptable to some sites. Also, it's very distressful because you need to pay some fee just to exchange your alt.    :)

in my opinion because many people feel disadvantaged when investing in altcoin. because now most of altcoin cannot develop and this causes the price of altcoin to continue to decline. plus many new altcoins that appear but are scam. this all makes investors disappointed and results in the altcoin market getting weaker. and finally some new or old investors prefer to invest in bitcoin which is safer and more profitable. although also have to be patient because we do not know when bitcoin will rise.

It looks like some sort of an altcoin fightback is going on... The dominance has declined from 71.2% that we had almost one month back, to around 66.2%. That is a 5% decline in just one month. Back in September, it looked as if the altcoins (including Ethereum and Litecoin) were inching towards a complete meltdown... but now the situation got been completely reversed. Established coins such as Ethereum have regained crucial support levels, although they are still showing a lot of weakness.

people in the crypto space are already aware when investing in altcoin will only throw away their money, because altcoin can only be profitable when there is hype after that happens then altcoin will slowly sink and die.
different from bitcoin which although it has gone down a lot but still able to rise which makes its dominance even stronger.

Even when Altcoins began to sink, there will still be a bottom where their prices will not fall below this level. And who said that there will be no hype in the cryptocurrency market in the next 2-3 years?

In my opinion "Bitcoin is the mainstream manifestation of the Blockchain" people have had of it back in the 2013 till date and associated themselves with the project. Bitcoin has gained many companies and also the upcoming ones want to associate themselves with Bitcoin. The trust of individuals when it come to bitcoin cannot be over emphasize, they have seen it as a legitimate digital asset. More also, Bitcoin is a store of value, it looks good on a long-term investment compared to altcoins. Bitcoin can be consider as a global currency, if this happen, the entire market will be dominated by the said Bitcoin.

in my opinion because many people feel disadvantaged when investing in altcoin. because now most of altcoin cannot develop and this causes the price of altcoin to continue to decline. plus many new altcoins that appear but are scam. this all makes investors disappointed and results in the altcoin market getting weaker. and finally some new or old investors prefer to invest in bitcoin which is safer and more profitable. although also have to be patient because we do not know when bitcoin will rise.
Altcoin not dominance because always price not higher after investor buy and invest on altcoin, they only take investing with bitcoin and dominance of bitcoin very higher every day, altcoin keep lower price and less dominance in exchange market, for back altcoin dominance have use good way when altcoin back to higher price its time faster dominance of altcoin.

The market is dominated by bitcoin, I think that's fair. Bitcoin has a price that is very much different from other altcoins. The limited amount of bitcoin and high market demand makes it quite expensive. Altcoin is not like bitcoin bitcoin, altcoin I think it needs a sensation to be able to go up and not infrequently altcoin can't maintain its price on the market. The hype in the market will continue to exist, because in my opinion every thing that can be achieved by an altcoin company is hype for traders.

because almost everyone knows many people interested in bitcoin have a lower Fraud Risk for Buyers. Transaction fees for bitcoin payments are significantly lower compared to those made for credit and debit card purchases. There is no third party involvement. so that bitcoin is trusted by many people to make transactions or invest.
Amongst the reliable coins that people do use for transaction, I think that bitcoin is even the cheapest for now, and funny how Ethereum that use to make gest of bitcoin transaction fee is even now higher than that of bitcoin.

No matter how big these coins may think that they are, bitcoin would always be their leader and will always gain more dominance more than them, and especially now that most of the ico project are really so much disappointing people and now, people only want to rely on bitcoin since it has been in existence for so long and has accommodated so many people without disappointing them. Most of the other projects that have promised to be trustworthy have all been compromised and this is like 10 years of bitcoin, and has never been compromised.

After the bearish year of 2018, people are taking precautions when it comes to investing in altcoins. People have shifted from altcoins towards bitcoin. If you have noticed, recent trends are showing that altcoins aren't following btc price movement lately. This is because of the low volume in altcoins. When Btc made a jump of $3k in a week in April, altcoins went bearish. This increased the marketcap of btc and since then, altcoins have bottomed out but BTC is going up.

Bitcoin already hit its highest point of dominance for two years causing its counterpart to be down. Bitcoin's value and huge exposure in the market and mainstream drives it's dominance up making alternative coins be left behind. According to tradingview.com, as of September, bitcoin's dominance is still over 72% which strongly tests the supports and users of altcoins. We can't still say that altcoin might completely vanish, what's sure is it will be hard for altcoins to overthrow bitcoin.

I don't think altcoin will ever die, because more and more altcoins are appearing in the cryptocurrency world. some were destroyed, but newer ones appeared. In my opinion altcoin will still accompany bitcoin in the crypto market, but its popularity will not outperform bitcoin. when you ask, why is the dominance of the bitcoin market so fast. in my opinion because bitcoin is the best coin among other coins and bitcoin is more attractive to investors than altcoin. although bitcoin is one of the limited crypto currencies in supply with an exceptional development team, but in my opinion altcoin will always be in the crypto market and will never be obsolete. because there are definitely traders who use altcoin to make a profit.

Bitcoin has been the dominant force in Crypto world. It not a surprise that it has obtained greater prominence within.

Actually, altcoin's existence is important to cryptocurrencies. Let's say in a world where Bitcoin, the use of bitcoin, the trading of bitcoin is banned everywhere or somebody actually destroys the bitcoin network. People can move to other coin networks if tragedy happens. No one knows what the future brings.

The bitcoin market dominance is rising fast because the majority of people are buying bitcoin from individuals to institutional investors. The cryptocurrency market favors the bitcoin this year more than altcoins that is why the bitcoin price is growing faster than the majority of altcoins.

It has the possibility to happen. Since altcoins are created to become its alternative.
If ever that bitcoin was banned in a certain country, its users can switch their funds instantly to altcoins so it will never die.

The dominance of bitcoin was rising fast because it has the largest blockchain, we must also consider that we can only buy an altcoin in the market using our funds that has been converted to bitcoin.

I think that is because bitcoin is the most used cryptocurrency in every transaction worldwide. Let me give you some examples when you want to invest in some projects here, you need to have bitcoin first because most of the projects only accepting bitcoin as payment for support. And in gambling also, bitcoin is the most used coin for betting and playing other games. There are lots of transactions in accordance to bitcoin so there is no question about why it is dominating other cryptocurrencies. Lastly, bitcoin become popular all around the globe and gain a lot of investors and traders as they recognize the goodness of using this kind of currency.

This is all because of the trust factor where investors or traders only become Bitcoin as their investment. While for Altcoin, only some people are interested in investing. This of course makes the dominance of Bitcoin over Altcoin continues until the Bullrun market occurs then the Altcoin season will arrive.

Bitcoin is among the best performing cryptocurrencies this year. Many people are now buying bitcoins because it is more profitable than many altcoins out there. I think the bitcoin market dominance is growing because the majority of people are buying bitcoins, not altcoins.

The last two years, the altcoin market has actually been in a bear market. Altcoins almost did not grow even when in the second quarter of this year bitcoin increased in price by almost four times. Under these conditions, investors are more likely to invest in bitcoin rather than in altcoins. Including therefore, the capitalization of bitcoin is increasing. I think that if by the end of the year bitcoin does not meet the expectations of investors, its level of capitalization will fall. In addition, this process will largely depend on the behavior of altcoins in the cryptocurrency market.

It's going to keep rising because altcoins are still getting hit harder than Bitcoin and people are not dumb, they can see it happen and they can count. The more altcoins get hit the more people want to jump of this train. I know this is counterproductive and when something gets hit really hard and loses 80% of its value you should jump in because the probability of a bounce back gets higher and higher. The majority is dumb and predictable and they will move to fiat or to Bitcoin because it remains more stable than altcoins but save investments don't pay out.

I believe that the market is being manipulated by whales than anything else. They're "playing" with Bitcoin, as well as, other altcoins on the market. At times, they cash out a portion of their altcoins into Bitcoin and vice versa. That's why we see a fluctuation in Bitcoin's market dominance across the crypto market. But at least, Bitcoin has maintained itself as the leader of crypto for quite some time. As more altcoins are created, you'll see Bitcoin's market dominance diminished by a small margin. The next bull run, will greatly determine how farther Bitcoin's market dominance will increase.

Nonetheless, Bitcoin's market dominance tells us nothing other than how prominent the cryptocurrency is in terms of price relative to other coins on the market. What matters is how useful the pioneer cryptocurrency is within the mainstream world. No matter what its price will be in the future, if it's useful enough for the average person then I believe that's sufficient. Things will become interesting with Bitcoin once the Lightning Network gains full speed ahead in mainstream adoption. There's a high probability that Bitcoin's price (and market dominance) will become higher over time. Which is why, early adopters of the cryptocurrency (like you and me) will greatly benefit from this in the future. Just my opinion :)
