Title: Post 👏 Review 👏 (Be Better, Beginner!)
Post by: bill gator on August 24, 2019, 01:50:20 PM
Good afternoon beginners and curious others! Awhile ago there used to be a lot of post-review threads, they were quite successful for the most part. As with anything a few of them went off the rails and strayed from the original intention, but they did improve and guide many newbies towards being better communicators and members of our community.

My thread, found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2819141.0 , was moved to off-topic, because these sorts of threads were taking over Meta and other boards that they should not have been; there were other reasons, some were seen as incentivizing posts, not meeting the criteria of a marketplace service, etc.

Throughout all of this, however, the community (based on an almost insignificant poll) in a 3 to 1 vote seemed to still see them as a benefit. That poll and discussion can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3539701

I attempted to create this thread in the past, but I got busy and allowed it to die. Today, we're going to start a new and improved version of that idea.

I see a lot of newbies struggling to accomplish what they would like to with their posts. They are unable to present their ideas in a way that is palatable to other users. They are regularly ignorant of the rules, guidelines, expectations and have no semblance of what is appropriate for each board. My goal with this thread is to combat these issues on an individual-basis.

This is how we're going to do this -

Submit up to 3 of your posts that you believe to be the greatest representation(s) of your contribution(s) around the forum

I'm searching for posts that are well-thought out, creative, nuanced, insightful, helpful, informative, unique, interesting and overall make the community a bit shinier. I believe there are too many members that are too arrogant or too afraid to honestly self-analyze their posting behavior around the forum. I will give my feedback on each of your posts, and if I find your thread/post to have the aforementioned qualities then I will join the discussion, watch the thread and use your submission as a reference for future questions about post-quality and anything relevant to the original intent of the post/thread.

In addition to reviewing the posts you have submitted, I will also take a peek at your 20-40 most recent posts and give my feedback regarding those as well. The purpose of this thread is to give the feedback necessary to allow users to make positive adjustments to the way they conduct themselves around the forum. Also, I have a hard time finding interesting discussions, so maybe this will work as a proxy for that as well.

You can write a comment, a request or whatever else, but leave the links plain, one per line, without any numbers, bullets or tags in front of them or behind them. If a link is on that line, nothing else should be.

Do not post useless comments or unproductive posts here; they will be deleted and go unanswered.

Disclaimer - This is strictly my opinion and any constructive disagreement from other members is welcomed into this discussion.

Let's get the basics down -

  • I will only review posts that have been created (and last edited) before this thread's creation: August 24, at 08:50:20 AM EST
  • No Discussion of Merit

Please submit your links similarly to :

I know it might seem like I'm necro-posting my own thread, but I admittedly got swamped with other nonsense before I could circle-back to your post. If you're still interested in my feedback, then here it is:

Your first post seems to be of extremely high-quality, but I have not checked it for plagiarism. I'm just trusting that you haven't plagiarized, because I the tools I used to use to check sufficiently are no longer available to me. Googling sentence by sentence seems overly tedious and under-effective. It is always very amusing to me that any threads seeking to seriously discuss emerging technologies, services and goods always end up receiving much fewer replies than the "braindead" threads. Libra isn't something I'm particularly interested in, but for anybody that is - I imagine you've provided an apt resource for them to reference.

Another high-quality reply, in your second post. I really have nothing to complain about in your posts, they're easy for me to navigate, read, digest and find the purpose.

Doing a quick skim through your post history it seems like you're genuinely interested and knowledgeable about the topics you involve yourself in.

Since this is another thread and with the same goal. I have a question to ask. What are the ranks that are eligible to join or participate in this one?. I did check your previous thread and there are different participants with different ranks that are rewarded but I wonder if it is the same in this one. I'll try my luck and here's the link https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5171021.0  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5134015.0.

@billgator Thanks a lot for the feedback, though I would have preferred it earlier :P  The topic I made on Libra might have a few sentences (in Libra Reserve, Blockchain, Association and Founding Members) copied from the Libra Whitepaper because I couldn't find a better way to put it. That's why I added this line
Quote
In this post, I’ll be sharing my views, information from several sources that I have read and points from the Libra Whitepaper and Website.

Do you think I need to do change it in any way? If so, do tell (I'm not a native English speaker)

But the review part (Good, Bad, Ugly) is all my thoughts in my own words. So I don't consider it to be palagirized. It took me around 2-3 days of research and 1 day for compiling the post. I read the complete whitepaper and read a whole lot of articles to gather the information. So when I couldn't find any interaction in the thread, I felt kind of demotivated at first. And like you said most people here are more interested in generalised topics rather than informative one. So you think that I have improved from my past?

I haven't seen any thread offering feedbacks on your posts. I have seen several merit giveaway threads, but thats is not the case here.
Since OP didn't post any eligibility criteria regarding ranks, I believe everyone are welcome. There are the basics mentioned
