Title: Atomic Swaps use cases
Post by: weidex on September 16, 2019, 12:54:34 PM
What do you think will be the use cases of Atomic Swaps? Why would you prefer to use them?

Atomic swap is just a way of exchanging coins without centralized intermediaries which is referring to another definition of DEX exchanges or decentralized exchanges, to me dex exchange features is already a real use case, it provides better security over centralized exchanges, nothing more

I love decentralised exchanges and believe that future of crypto currencies should be fully decentralised. That is why I am a big supporter of such initiatives as atomic swap, which makes token exchange more simple and saves your time.

This is true but there is one main feature which separates them from DEXs - the idea is to achieve multi-chain trading - for example to swap ETH for BTC instantly

Atomic swap involves the rapid exchange of not only btc and eth and for any cryptocurrency.A good example of an application for the implementation of atomic swaps is atomic wallet.https://atomicwallet.io (https://atomicwallet.io)

Atomic swap support the main idea of cryptocurrencies: decentralization. When you use exchange there is an intermediary and you have to trust them, while when you exchange your coins via atomic swap you need to trust only the smart-contract code.  ;)

Exchanging coins between multiple chains is best use of Atomic Swaps, DEXs work only in one chain. I also think anonymity/privacy can easily be achieved by Atomic swaps, Say If you have BTC or ETH or any UTXO coin, You can swap to privacy coins like Zcash,Pirate etc and vice-versa, It's like mixing your coins in decentralized way with more security.

Atomic swaps is cool and all, but really way too slow to use on a DEX if you ask me. Depending on the coin pairs, it can take several minutes to exchange 2 coins using atomic swaps, and while it "seems" fast, it's not.
Imagine yourself as a day trader, wanting to trade on the ups and downs - Now imagine waiting up to 10 mins / trade. You'd run out of patience real quick, and would probably move your operation over to a centralized solution with INSTANT trading.

Now, let's imagine a DEX using Lightning to swap your coins? The benefits here is HUGE, since the trades is near instant, AND virtually feelees. So you save time, AND money.

Take a look at Stakenet - 3rd project to actually implement Lightning on mainnet (Next to BTC/LTC), and actually helped the LTC team integrating it on their chain.
Stakenet's Lightning DEX is soon ready for public testing, and it's probably the most promising DEX solution out there for PRO traders, who wants to stay anonymous as well, since the DEX doesn't need KYC, registrations, or anything else for that matter. You also don't need to sync with the DEX, as the DEX is run on masternodes keeping all the chains on their servers.

This is a true gem, however, do your own research guys :)

Atomic swap becomes a great project this year. You can convert your tokens to any other tokens or even BTC, ETH! The process is very easy and useful to anyone. Atomic Swap is a true example of Decentralization. They will have more use cases as their roadmap.

Atomic swap is really a good innovation except for the fact that is slow, if you are not patient enough you might not be able to settle for atomic swap.

What about regulation? what do you have to say on that because we are all hoping for it but it can only happen if decentralized is been erased which is impossible, only centralized projects will have better regulation in the future which might make decentralized project look weak

The main application of Atomic Swaps is in Decentralize exchange, but most of these decentralized exchanges are not spending money on the improvement of the technology, most of these is done by developers and lack real backing on how to scale it, just look at Binance for example they decided to opt for their own chain which to me is centralized because of the way the nodes are set up.

It is also a simple method to trade cryptocurrency, this is important. The average internet user is still scared of the technology and need more alternatives to the traditional exchanges. Mass adoption will only come with easy interfaces.

Just use it for instant exchange from a token to the b token. that's the only use case from the atomic swap service and i don't see another explanation that explains if atomic swap is a very complex method that can be used to be developed into the various ways.
I just prefer to use it caused by the instant exchange.

Atomic Swap is basically a decentralize instant exchange right? I've tried Atomic Swap couple of times, I think it's good that users have more option to trade their coins. Atomic Swap is easier to use, but it takes longer time to execute a transaction and usually more fees. It will be good method for non-trader, but a really big no if you are a daily trader.

An atomic swap is very easy to use, especially for beginners who are still confused about finding the type of crypto wallet according to their needs, now there are already many altcoins registered there and with the instant exchange they have, there will be many users who use it and try this exchange.
Although this exchange has a high enough fee from the DEX exchange. ;)

So atomic swaps are better for non-traders and exchanges for daily traders?

Atomic swap is a great idea, by avoiding double spending of first sending to a centralized exchange and paying withdrawal fees to withdraw from the centralized exchange, and the atomic swap equally saves time. My only concern is the success rate of high volume when dealing with a less known swap wallet. Atomic swap technology addresses security issues of centralized system.

This is a very convenient technology for those people who consider cryptocurrency as an everyday tool of using in the real world.

Ofcourse, it is a great way to exchange cryptocurrencies or coins between Blockchains. It not like typical decentralized exchanges that are limited to single cryptocurrency or  token DEXes (Ethereum-based DEXes for example) that are limited to tokens..

That's a good input right there that weidex team could look.  Weren't there projects which interoperability had been working already?

DEX has to really develop to its fullest this time and DEX has to take part in the process for the adoption of crypto.  If convenience has to be offered apart from this anonymity in exchanges, DEX has to offer it.

Atomic swap is a great idea how to keep thousands of cryptocurrencies alive. I believe that in the future it will be so easy to use many cryptocurrencies at one time and you won't even know about it.

Give the public beta a try of atomicdex, Komodo has been the leader of atomic swaps and don't get enough credit.

We are putting great efforts in developing weiDex and soon we will release Atomic Swap dApp between different blockchains. Hope, it will provide both convenience and anonymity and everything else coming with the decentralization. And there will be no fee for the swaps.
