Title: K-POP Company owners are joining the train hype of Cryptocurrency
Post by: DaftAjax on September 26, 2019, 01:56:22 PM
SM Entertainment, one of the top entertainment company in Sout Korea is planning on making its own blockchain network.

Due to the shareholder revolt and a falling stock price of the company they wanted to create this, in order for the Artists and the company itself be able to directly interact with the fans and be more engaged in the entertainment ecosystem.

What are your thoughts? Do you think this will have a "major" impact?

Well it seems this is an example of a good use case in the entertainment industry and once successfully implemented and steered in the right way, it could pave the way to more crypto exposure and adoption among South Koreans since they are well known to be enthusiastic and die hard followers in the entertainment industry thus the explosion of K-Pop generation. :)

Indeed, it can have a huge positive impact because there are a lot of K POP fans nowadays who wanted to interact with their idols. Of course they will see it as a great opportunity and they will surely be interested about it. Actually i'm also a fan of a Korean idol and its certainly a nice idea because we can easily interconnect with our favorite icon or celebrity. Some of them will be interested about cryptocurrency but who knows right? its possible but we can't easily say it because we can't predict what will happen in the future.

Crypto from sports or other celebrities is really bullshit

Firstly, cryptocurrency or blockchain is not a magic wand which will make everything right upon implementation. Implementation of blockchain will not make the falling share price recoverable! Especially in a sector like media or celebrity management!

Secondly, a lot of people don't understand the utility of a cryptocurrency! Why the hell people would need a separate crypto to make flight ticket booking and another crypto for movie ticket booking??

What is celebrity engagement btw? What's the need of a cryptocurrency here?

Frankly, I don't see any business potential here in the entire proposal!

Well, I guess that is a big exposure to bitcoin but we don't know if there will be a massive adoption on it. Just like the professional boxer Manny Pacquiao now has his own cryptocurrency token and he named it PACtoken. No doubt that this K-pop group will bring also to bitcoin become well known because they had a thousands of fans out there that might adopt also crypto. As I can see the business potential here is about planning again to have their own cryptocurrency like other celebrities do.

Lol they are 2 years too late, blockchain hype is on life support today, it's nothing like it was in 2017. It's obviously just an attempt to boost their image in investor's eyes. The end users - their fans, don't care about blockchain, don't know about blockchain, and won't feel any difference even if we imagine that they successfully implemented a blockchain. But this whole idea doesn't even make sense, why would anyone need a decentralized database protocol for engaging with their audience?

Planning to launch their own crypto? they should do more research on what happened mostly to those kind of coins. They are prone to pump and dump and I think this is going to be centralized.

Can't question the wide range of the K-Pop industry, sure there will be a lot of fans willing to follow their idols if they will start advertising their token through their talents.

+1 to this!

Its really a wrong mindset for those people who do consider out this blockchain adoption for their own recovery and as said
not all things would go as planned or what they do expect for knowing that there are already lots of projects on different sectors
trying out to create their own token-based one but mostly of them do fail off.We wouldnt know if this would be hit but surely
this would be embraced by majority of those k-pop lovers nothingless.

It will cause a major impact and will certainly expose cryptocurrency particularly Bitcoin to more adopters as the K-POP are known to draw more crowd.
If this ever happens, their major influencers will be kids and growing teenagers who loves to imitate these singers in whatever they do.
Another point it, will this young users bother to know more about Bitcoin or crypto or will they just know it as 'one of the things K-POP stars owns or invest in'.

K-Pop fans are everywhere and as many have said, they have large following already.
This is a good way to introduce crypto to younger generation as well.
As they can easily adopt to this kind of technology, it will help in the crypto adoption that we are aiming for.
I hope they have long-term plans for this kind of initiatives and not just because they want to join the bandwagon.

As far as I know, this is also the reason why Manny Pacquiao's coin is made. I don't know exactly but I think they are the same. Impact? I agree that they are years late and I don't see any great impact of it jn the near future. Though in our country, there are a lot of mainstream fans of this KPOP and in a way, I think it might have an impact to those fans and not as a majority.

Maybe that company had realized the immense benefits of blockchain technology and decided to integrate it with their business model as I thnk this strategic decision usually comes from broadminded executives who had the guts to adopt emerging technologies as they see fit to benefit their company in the long run. :)

Lol they are 2 years too late, blockchain hype is on life support today, it's nothing like it was in 2017.

Integrating blockchain technology in ones business is never too late where in fact this revolution is just getting started! The bull run of 2017 is mostly about crypto prices getting ATH's and speculation but I honestly think it didn't reflect the actual scenario of blockchain adoption. Though I understand this is just a baby step on blockchain adoption, I consider it to be a good news in relation to achieving mainstream adoption on blockchain technology. Imho.

It's not a step towards mainstream adoption, because there most likely will be no working product, or no one will use it when it will get released. So many companies have already claimed that they will launch their own cryptocurrency or blockchain, and then absolutely nothing happened, because it all was just a PR stunt, or the project just couldn't leave the development phase. This is because blockchain is actually not a fundamental technology that works everywhere, but instead the opposite - a very narrow technology that so far only works in one field - money, specifically cryptocurrency.

This is definitely one of their bad decisions if they are not one of the sharks that can manipulate the market!
As I know, SM entertainment's stock has dropped by more than 43% compared to November last year and they decided to enter the crypto market to revive?
This will have the opposite effect if the business finance manager is not good and for the token to be sold widely in the market, businesses will have to pay the price because the manipulation here is huge!

As I am reading the replies above this post, I am seeing mixed opinions about whether this will actually make recognition about blockchain overall or just the fans will meddle into it just because they wanted to help the Artists/Company.

My take on this is 50/50.

Think about this, a(n) artist(s) will go to a concert tour, so the stadiums and arenas will presumably be sold out. Before going to the tour the company will set an online bid or an online ticket purchase using their own Cryptocurrency(but can use Bitcoin or other "major" crypto) to buy tickets/souvenirs and stuff. Not only they'll help the Artists/Company, but also the arena/stadium owners will get exposed to this kind of transactions. So owners of this might accept more Cryptos in the future rather than fiats. And also, think about the songs they make that also can be bought by cryptos, I think that's enough exposure.

Now to the other half. Since we all know that cryptocurrencies are volatile, all of these might fail horribly and could lead to lots of losses rather than gains and exposure to people's familiarity towards cryptocurrencies and the blockchain itself.

This is the first time I heard were one of the K-pop celebrities are planning on making its own blockchain network.
As long as they know what they are entering, that would probably a great news. And it is also a big chance and have a major
impact, due to they will the power of influence to their k-pop fans to support it. But it can also be wreck in one wrong move.

I myself support SM Entertainment's plan to create its own blockchain network. So far, K-Pop has a many fans all over world, in fact, I think it's almost like western music. In my own country K-pop fans are very many, especially women, this also has a positive impact on bitcoin where fans will begin to be educated with blockchain later.

Just a marketing ploy for the company to join and get their hands dirty on this whole crypto verse.

Of course, South Koreans love their K-pop and their crypto so why not merge it all together.

Again, I don't see it having a huge impact, on the other hand, companies entering the scene just have one thing in mind, take advantage, join the bandwagon and make more money, easy peasy.

It could be a good use case but it's just one industry, K-Pop. I think they don't need exposure, since South Korea together with Japan leads the way on the adoption of crypto in Asia.

Just a marketing ploy for the company to join and get their hands dirty on this whole crypto verse.

This is probably the main reason, just imagine if they are going to pursue things like buying tickets with crypto, it's going to be huge, but let's see how it goes though, too early to say at this point. But good marketing strategy on their part.

What I know about SM Entertainment is a big company that has many famous artists, girl bands and boy bands also has a lot of followers or fans. These influencers will be intermediaries to promote his Blockchain network on their social media. If they are serious about doing that I think it will have a positive impact on Blockchain technology.

But we need to know who is the real mind behind all of this. The entrepreneur who want this. I think this is not a plan coming from these artists.
This promotion can be very great, to work as payment method to pay for the shows, buy tickets and others.

Any type of project and investment into creating more blockchains is welcome to have, and this not something new, i mean we have seen and heard of many companies big or small moving toward digitization and using the blockchain technology in their own way, even though the KPOP culture is wide spread and have many fans, i don't think we will see any major impact, like other companies or fields would do.

One of the big industries that can do well using the blockchain technology and of course also cryptocurrency is the entertainment and with this K-Pop company I hope that can be the model of this use-case scenario. Indeed, the blockchain can be applied to varied industries and in the entertainment it would be fans that will surely love the opportunity as they can now directly interact with their idolized stars. Entertainment and the blockchain can be a good force that can be helping more adoption of the technology.

I don't know where did he (CoinDesk Author) get that part in his Blog. The blog was based on IT CHOSUN (http://it.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2019/09/04/2019090402626.html)'s, but "shareholder revolt and a falling stock price" are not mentioned there at all (I used auto translate). Most likely, it's his own opinion.

I personally won't spearhead SM Entertainment's decision. They surely put in a lot of considerations before deciding to adopt these new technologies (artificial intelligence and blockchain). It will have an impact for sure considering the number of artists/groups at SM Entertainment and their huge fan base, but am not sure if it's a "major impact".

Does my title really "that" misleading? Did you read the initial content?

Well, let me reiterate. The title says "K-POP Company owners....", it's not the K-POP groups themselves but the Company they belonged to. It's the decision of their executives and CEO to create their own blockchain. They're just going to meddle to the crypto and blockchain, they're the catalyst if you will. K-POP has a very large fanbase all over the world. One of the reasons is for the fans to be familiar with the entertainment ecosystem. Ecosystem my friend, that's a pretty large network if you ask me. Imagine tickets for concert tours that will cost you cryptocurrency. And their Music, that's going to be in major music streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes etc. I'd say that's a very big exposure.

I don't know man, I'm keeping my mind open. Because back then, Bitcoin is a laughing matter, a dude bought 2 boxes of pizza for 20K BTC. Then the year 2017 happen.

I think its a good development that should be encouraged and coming from a company operating in the entertainment further shows the versatility and applicability of blockchain transcends beyond what people might think. However, I don't think this is going to cause a major impact the company in question is not Empire Music or Warner Bros or Fox which we know have the muscle to cause a major push in the industry however, it could be a start of a chain reaction that would change the things are done which is the bright side everyone should be looking at.

It depends on what they do with this information, not the information itself. They really make those celebs go out and talk about crypto here and there, doesn't have to be like promotion (there is nothing to promote) but create awareness then Koreans would probably listen. Hell k-pop is global now and well beyond Korea itself only which means there are people who will literally listen all around the world.

So, those celebs talking about crypto between sentences sometimes would create a lot of awareness and they could put this over the mainstream media, that is when the real price increases start. Don't forget the more adoption we have in crypto world the more price will increase, that has always been the truth and that is what we need from these kinds of news.

This could be use to gain more people in the crypto industry the only thing that bother's me is that they would surely attract non crypto people .
And for sure it could have a huge effect in the market  specially if those people goes into trading they could easily be manipulated or lose some money or be part of the people who easily dump their crypto when they hear some fake news.

K-Pop is a massive industry in itself, which surely has its own ordeals. While this doesn't come in as a major surprise, it feels a bit late if we have a look at all the other parallel industries coming into the blockchain/crypto buzz. Maybe they should've stuck to using an existing blockchain like ETH and created a an ERC token instead of having to invest a lot of fortune for creating their own blockchain.
Either ways, only time will tell of what will happen down the road and for the best of the K-Pop industry, it better turn out to be good.

K-POP company is very well known as of now even at a very young age, this is a good sign to crypto that to be well known even in the industry of celebrity entrepreneur. They will help to explore and broadcast this crypto and the behind on this is blockchain technology.
I saw a list of celebrity entrepreneurs, there are 5 of them who are getting involved in Blockchain startups here. https://www.inc.com/bill-carmody/5-celebrity-entrepreneurs-who-are-getting-involved-in-blockchain-startups.html. The problem I see here is that these celebrities don't have a clue about what's going on here and for that reason back anything they deem interesting and rewarding enough, even when it's a clear cash grab.

We have seen quite a few celebrities enter the crypto sphere already, and they haven't contributed to anything but their own wallet. People need to stop following celebrities like blind sheeps. They're not here for you.

If celebrities really cared about the fundamentals of crypto, they would finance development, set up businesses utilizing crypto, etc. None of that is the case so it makes more sense to warn people against them.

For more info, refer to these articles: Korea’s Biggest Entertainment Company to Launch Its Own Cryptocurrency (https://cointelegraph.com/news/koreas-biggest-entertainment-company-to-launch-its-own-cryptocurrency) and K-Pop Music Giant SM Entertainment Is Planning Its Own Cryptocurrency (https://www.coindesk.com/k-pop-music-giant-is-planning-its-own-cryptocurrency)

We need to review a little SM plan to expand cryptocurrency. In my opinion, the idea came from subcontractors who saw the KPOP audience market share is very large, although there are many other types of music why KPOP was chosen, the reasons are:

- KPOP fans are more fanatical because they have different market segments, namely small children and young children.
- His enthusiasm is very much proven since the morning the location of the concert was visited by many fans and the number of fans who came many times over.
- Fever and euphoria of KPOP in all countries last a long time, although the appearance is instant but the music can be sustained.

If SM develops a cryptocurrency, will its enthusiasm be as big as KPOP music? In my opinion not necessarily, because:

- Although the number of KPOP fans around the world reaches 89 million people, not all KPOP fans are people who understand cryptocurrency.
- When SM launches a cryptocurrency, the market will see and review its vision and mission, and whether the market will respond according to SM's expectations.

maybe SM Ent. will be offering a benefit like every purchase using their coins will be have a chance to join fansign/fan meeting

Since the share holders are revolting against them because their stock is not performing well, they have come up with a new gimmick thinking that it will give some stability, SM Entertainment are hoping to have some major impact on their announcement and only time will tell whether these sort of gimmick could help them establish a better market share.
If their aim is to have direct interaction with fans then social media is the platform they must be active rather than creating a token :P.

The South Korea markets, infrastructure, economy is booming for real and no wonder why K-Pop Culture is getting involved into blockchain. K-Pop simply reshaped the music industry and their fans are all over the world like even I got caught into songs from Black Pink ( even if my girl doesn't approve this haha ).

Also if this is the case and if they ever make their own currencies I would invest and the last coin I have invested in ICO was waves 3 years ago because lets be honest , K-Pop are at the beginning of the road. If Hyundai did their own currency why would K-Pop not joining into this cryptocurrency train ? Asians were always one step ahead from Europe in my opinion.

I see right now there are many celebrities who want to make their coins and some even make their own coins.
For example Manny Pacquiao. The coin has been released but has no impact.

So I don't think news from SM entertainment will have a major impact.
As I know, SM Entertainment is not the first company to have proposed the use of blockchain technology in the K-pop industry.

depends on the coin  . thier coins have no impact because it might be that thier coins are still new and not yet been promoted properly or maybe thier coins  are simply not just attractive because there is no useful element on it . still , kpop industry is pretty huge and pretty popular .

now imagine if crypto will be introduced by them i think cryptos can caught the attention of thier fans no matter how bad or good thier project are   . the hype in kpop is bigger than the hype that a regular celebrity keep that in mind  .

This could really bring a positive impact on cryptocurrency. As far as I know, SM Entertainment is one of the big 3 leading agencies in the KPOP industry. And is also know for great way of handling the business. We all know that it's the mainstream and the hype of KPOP are receiving now is huge, and there are a lot of fans around the world. Since it aims to connect the fans and the idol, fans probably would adopt with this, once it is adopted by the agency. I know a lot of fans who buy or engage themselves with what their idols are promoting so it would be easy to attract fans around the world about crypto through this. This could really a big help in increasing the adopting of crypto.

Yes, Manny Pacquiao's crypto has no major impact, even if he's a worldwide celebrity. Because the problem is that the fanbase is not really there.
I did a little digging and apparently SM Entertainment is the very first one to take the bullet.

~snip -...like even I got caught into songs from Black Pink.

Also if this is the case and if they ever make their own currencies I would invest and the last coin I have invested in ICO was waves 3 years ago because lets be honest , K-Pop are at the beginning of the road. Asians were always one step ahead from Europe in my opinion.

Well, same here I like BlackPink too.
I probably look into it too. I'll be monitoring the progress they're making. So are you saying that Asians tend to take risks first then EU follows?

1) The problem I see here is that these celebrities don't have a clue about what's going on here...

2) We have seen quite a few celebrities enter the crypto sphere already, and they haven't contributed to anything but their own wallet. People need to stop following celebrities like blind sheeps. They're not here for you.

3) If celebrities really cared about the fundamentals of crypto, they would finance development, set up businesses utilizing crypto, etc. None of that is the case so it makes more sense to warn people against them.

1) Well, I think the problem is you misunderstood everything.
2) It's clearly stated that, it's the K-POP company owners.... The decision is by the company they belonged to, SM Enterntainment, and not the K-POP groups/celebreties themselves. If we're talking about the company here, they sure know what they're doing. There are a lot of planning and preparations on their side before its even been known to public. The K-POP groups are probably going to be the intermediaries to this "project". And please, let's not talk about the Entertainment industry, that's a very big network. And the possibilities of other platforms like music streaming platforms, or even concert tickets and such.
3) Seriously! That's the plan!

K-Pop is a massive industry in itself, which surely has its own ordeals. While this doesn't come in as a major surprise, it feels a bit late if we have a look at all the other parallel industries coming into the blockchain/crypto buzz.

I think they come in just in time. Considering back then, K-POP Fanbase is mostly East, specifically Asia. But now K-POP is a worldwide phenomenon, the fanbase is crazy large. So them releasing this "project" now(?) is better rather than earlier.

Kpop celebs may be popular and can promote their blockchain project but it may not really help the industry to recover the loss. The volatility nature of crypto will only dip them more to the murky waters. The popularity though can make information of cryptocurrency be widely spread, Kpop are appreciated not just in Asia so the channel must be of help.

You can't say that they won't help the industry to recover. They might be an eye-opener to others who aren't believing in cryptocurrency especially that they have a large crowd following each of their moves. Believe in the power of crowd. They might be entangled in a more larger company that help cryptocurrency be known throughout the world.

Still on 50-50 chance yet we know that it might rather be a miss or hit depending on the masses if they do able to see that cryptocurrency is worthy to be followed.
Its still a good exposure though for crypto market since we know on how big or how many is the kpop lovers globally but it doesnt mean that all of things that they would
plan or tend to do would succeed. It will always matter if the masses will embrace or just simply ignore  it and just focus on their popularity.

Yes K-POP fandom is mostly a bunch of teenagers. And their exposure/understanding of cryptocurrency isn't going to be as in-depth as we could but my guess is they will try to anyways. And the other I'm curious about is that just because of K-POP has a very large fandom that other businesses would try to make partnership to the companies behind it and further developed their blockchain. I mean, to be partnered with a worldwide known reputation company by supporting their project is going to be a lot more profitable than making their own blockchain themselves.

This is genius. These KPOP starts have a broad and FANATICAL following. I know some people who would buy and do anything for tickets to sold-out concerts by these kpop stars.

This is a really good move on the part of SM entertainment and i wouldn't be surprised if it becomes an all out success for them. The only thing they need to do is to make the user interface user friendly and surely it will be a hit.

Getting your point, mate. K-POP fans  if blindly idolizing the artist will simply follow what their idols will advise them. If the entertainment company will use this advertising venue to integrate their system to blockchain,  the influence of those stars will lead newcomers to adopt crypto. Though it will still depend if how far the fans will embrace the system and how they will appreciate the system.
Not a bad idea, though. It will be a good spark to attract more people especially those young generations, preparing them for the best future to come.

various businesses can be integrated with crypto currencies.  targeting entertainment industry as a cryptocurrency ecosystem is a good idea.  but whether this idea will continue because the issue that is developing,  South Korea will fight cryptocurrency. does this busines include the cryptocurrency type to be fought.
I don’t know why we are all giving south Korea too much of power to be thinking they can have influence over cryptocurrency when they are not the world leader, in terms of war, they can make that boast but when it comes to technology, their limit does not go beyond their own space as they have no business with what other countries do with their own currency.

Even if they will fight cryptocurrency, they can only fight it in their country which the fight will be against those who has been using it in their country. Many big entertainment companies will come into the cryptocurrency space successfully and there is nothing that I think south Korea can do about that. The crypto space is growing bigger and very soon, it will grow beyond control.

KPop fans are surely willing to try it once it has been launched just to satisfy their fangirling or fanboying needs. You know, whatever it takes.

SM Entertainment is confident about this since almost all their idol groups, especially EXO, is also way too popular worldwide. So even if the fans don't understand what cryptocurrency is at first since most of the number of fans are too young or still a student, there's no doubt that they will still be able to adopt it.

I'm not sure how much impact it will have, as crypto is already hugely popular in South Korea.

I remember this stat that over 7% of South Koreans (of those surveyed) own some crypto: https://cointelegraph.com/news/south-koreans-invest-an-average-6-000-in-cryptocurrency-says-new-survey

But even if it doesn't have much effect, whatever effect it does have will surely be positive and is another welcome step on the long and bumpy road towards the integration of crypto into mainstream society.

In terms of major impact, there will be none. There could be an impact but it will become short-lived if there are no major complementary developments that go with it. It is not sufficient itself to be the lone force to cause a major impact. This is not the first time that people from the entertainment industry have started to voice out or express their interest or support to cryptocurrency. In fact, this is not the first time that a certain crypto project is made with the objective of direct interaction with the fans. And so far, nothing has gone far with it.

This is surely good news to the crypto community. All that we seek is the adoption of cryptocurrencies and entertainment is one of the big industries in the world today. This would go a long way to expose the use case of blockchain technology to the world.

We are forgetting that they are also looking at blockchain more directly than just cryptocurrency. It means they are trying to build a platform where the artists could have more direct connections with the fans. Sure, there could be some cryptocurrency involved and fans who buy those cryptocurrency could basically support their favorites and all that but at the same time blockchain could connect them a lot faster and better depending on how they use it.

So, this is more about utilizing the technology better to make more profits than just adding some ICO crypto to make more money and get away from financial troubles, that would be a short term solution where they will end up where they are right now eventually, but if they utilize the blockchain better they could have a long term profit that would save them.

Can someone enlighten me how can the artists directly interact with their fans by creating their own cryptoccurency? We all know that korean wave have been showing a great impact towards people around the world. And there are a lot of fans that can really be a good thing for crypto's wide adoption. And for the fact that SM is a big company in Korea, having super junior, girls generation, exo and etc who are really famous even internationally.

But what I am thinking is if it's all about interaction, it's not a good option if the artists themselves don't even know what crypto is. SM is somehow risking their artist engaging them on something they don't know. SM is known for only thinking about money and profits. Or are they just using their artists to earn money from their fans? The management can handle it but I don't think it's good to involve their artist who are not willing to learn things in crypto.

It has a big impact in the industry not only for entertainment. It is not an outrageous matter that KPop music will also enter and involve the crypto world because a country like South Korea already recognized for cryptocurrency investments and exchanges. It adds up additional income to the blockchains and it has enormous impact for accepting and divulging crypto to the other people not only in Korea but also in other countries most especially in those countries that crypto is not yet acceptable and not yet legalized.

I think that it will have a minor impact on cryptocurrency as a whole mainly due to the fact that it will only apply to the entertainers and their fans, although, with the large viewerbase that K-POP does have it may very well prove me wrong and absolutely take off. Additionally, most of the people who enjoy K-POP are from the younger generation and therefore are more digitally savvy, meaning that this cryptocurrency does have the ability to take off within that K-POP ecosystem, especially due to the fact that these fans are absolutely die-hard for their idols.

That may be true, however, this is most likely older men and women who are investing their income. I highly doubt that those from the younger generation have much care for their future and therefore most likely haven't invested into cryptocurrency. This could be a turning point for that, especially in South Korea.

Blockchain as a platform to connect stars and fans could be huge, I don't know how it could be done, I don't know what the platform will be like but looking stuff like twitch where people literally give money to streamers to be on their screens, I am pretty sure we could have a system where fans pay celebs to get their attention. Now, if you do that via crypto that is even better, there is a connection and you can see how has sent the most crypto and the richest fan out there.

I personally do twitch myself and know my biggest supporters by heart, so of course every fan would want to be like that for their favorite celeb. How they could do it is another question, if they can do it, it will be success but they need to be careful with the system or it would be another money spent on something that failed.

This won't work because of the network effect - content creators want to put their content on the platform with the highest amount of users to maximize their audience and their profit. So, a new platform will only have small beginner content-creators at first, and it will stay that way if amount of consumers will stay low. Next, I seriously doubt that an average twitch viewer or k-pop fan knows or cares about cryptocurrency. If you make this platform crypto-exclusive, you'll seriously limit your potential users.

I think this will have no impact anything for the world of Crypto, they are only carrying out their own mission, specifically for their own fans. I feel that their tokens will not long survive in the market, this is only a play token, for jokes.
Same view for this one and we have seen that there were lots of projects do tagged up anything just to make some shitcoin which isn't really that needed.

We don't need to have this K-pop crypto for what? They don't offer something new and we wouldn't be surprised if this one easily dies down even after a few days on launch.
Main motive is either on accumulating funds or just trying to join with the hype for adding more exposure.

Sound likes a bit silly but that is true. They don't help the market through the price situation but yet they contribute to making bitcoin have exposure and that's it. Well, we can consider this is a part of good news though

Are K- pop  that popular that they are confident that it will generate support,

currently i think K-Pop very popular in the world because they already break the most 24hours view for Music Video with total views 74.6 Million

I don't even know if all the K pop fans are into Cryptocurrency, they should instead adopt a Crypto currency first and observe it's success before they launch their own,

i believe if SM Ent. Make their cryptocurrency with a lot of bonus or benefit many of K-Pop Fans from all the group that SM Ent. has i think it will be bring many people to buy their coins and using it on their platform

besides how many K-pop superstars they have in their stable because I'm not a K - pop fans.

i think there are a lot of K-Pop star under SM Ent. and if you want to see maybe you can read it here SM Entertainment artists (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SM_Entertainment_artists)

I'm certainly not a fan of conspiracy theory, but in my opinion K-POP will soon take over the whole world. Of course, I have nothing against it ;) But if to speak seriously, K-POP now is a strong branch of the entertainment industry, which is based in a fairly developed country, so I think it will have an impact.

It is not far that even the showbiz and entertainment industry will be using cryptocurrency. It could be a good way to promote and expose crypto to the mass which could help in mass adaptation. Knowing that Kpop is somehow know around the globe.

Yes they are really known around the globe and they have a huge community of people who really love K-POP and other type of Korean creations. If the K-POP companies will really use the cryptocurrencies then it will become the start of the revolution of cryptocurrency around the world since it will give a lot of exposure for cryptocurrency that could lead into adaption.

Will definitely bring a major impact the the artist under the SM entertainment and that includes the KPOP fans aswell, but not really for the world wide. Maybe it's just their last effort to save their company from bankruptcy. I haven't followed the news about this company but it seems that they have some kind of urgent circumstances and facing a big problem that forces their investors to withdraw from the company and the company itself the capital to keep on mantaining its operation. If this become a success for the company, I'm pretty sure that the other company that works in the same field will follow the strategy and then basically there'll be a crypto specialized for KPOP I guess.

I also read that even Boxing star already created his own version of crypto coin, PAC Token was named after Manny Pacquiao a well known boxing champs.
With this new additions of K-pop industry and if the trends will turn according to it's plan, we will expect more celebrities and well known big names that will also embrace the chanin and begin to work with blockchain technology.

This is indeed targeting out to make money into their fans but well this isn't our business though.

For more info, refer to these articles: Korea’s Biggest Entertainment Company to Launch Its Own Cryptocurrency (https://cointelegraph.com/news/koreas-biggest-entertainment-company-to-launch-its-own-cryptocurrency) and K-Pop Music Giant SM Entertainment Is Planning Its Own Cryptocurrency (https://www.coindesk.com/k-pop-music-giant-is-planning-its-own-cryptocurrency)

It will have an impact on K pop industry but I don't think so in the Cryptocurrency, I hope they did make a feasibility study because K pop is not a big industry and I highly doubt it will have volume in the market, because it will only serve a small industry, if they are sure of it then why not we have seen Akon creating his won coin for his countryman and Pacquiao too is going to launch one, but coins coming from popular figure will not last long, we have seen in the past how people create coins for popular figure and they are not around anymore.

They're just gonna sell rabid K-Pop fans some shit coin that would quickly become useless faster than the average K-Pop aspirant's career.

In general, it's wise to stay away from celeb coins, they usually have nothing solid to stand on aside from the celeb's popularity and even that is not a guarantee these coins would hold their value.

Maybe that's your opinion, but this will be a breakthrough, of course, because the KPop is scattered everywhere. especially South Korea already uses a blockchain system.
they seem to be focusing on developing in South Korea and several countries that have a fans, this doesn't rule out the possibility of reaching out globally and that will be their great success
Yeah, if this thing gonna happen it will be a great PR for cryptocurrency, other countries will see this and they will think this as a good idea that can help them to earn more. I love it when popular influencers get into crypto-currencies, they have a lot of popularity and they can easily get their own fan-base into these projects as well, and it's actually the most popular form of marketing nowadays just due to how much influence these people have.

From my experience with K-POP fans, they almost idolise their pop stars and try to do whatever they do, these moves will definelty influence how much support crypto will receive in the future.

South Korea has large numbers of crypto users its not surprising that some major companies wants to get involved in the trend. It is a brave move for company to jump on high risk but a high reward ecosystem, they really saw potential of the blockchain and applying it to K-POP could be a game changer also would influence their fans as well.

This has become very frequent now. Whenever some company faces internal revolt or low stock prices, they use the cryptocurrency as a tool to stay afloat. First it was Facebook, which came out with its Libra cryptocurrency in order to retain its stagnant user base. This K-POP company is the latest one. I am tired of seeing crypto being used by these people for their own vested interests. In the end, we will get another worthless shitcoin, and it is going to do more harm than good for the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

It will definitely bring a huge impact since the Kpop industry is too huge and they will also attract a lot of fans to invest. Big names making noise in the crypto industry would surely be an advantage in the market. It might not be successful but we could still consider it as a good way to catch the attention of the public with crypto. Kpop's popularity would bring crypto into the mainstream again.

You could be right. But the thing is, back then, Bitcoin isn't mainstream as well. Considering the Age bracket of the fandom of K-POP, its going to be a lot of people. Not just a lot of people, but people with money, who will pay any amount they can just for their favorite artists.

Well, I think they really find out that they can really earn a big profit in crypto and the reason why they are planning to make there own currency through the blockchain network. This is a very big help to them to be able to become more popular because cryptocurrency is very popular and for sure their fan will also invest in what they had planned. Not directly help bitcoin but the entire crypto will bring popularity.

After reading replies on this thread, I've received mixed opinions.

I think at first, this will only help the company and the artists. Considering the amount of fandom they have(?) it's gonna be big for sure. Then, eventually, the fans will be more familiar with blockchain, cryptocurrency. And who knows, maybe by then, there's going to be something else like incorporating it to video live streaming or fundraising but this time with the use of cryptocurrency. I'm quite sure there's going to be lots of possibilities surrounding this project.

I can no longer find the first one that quoted me but my take on this is, if it's simply a K-Pop related altcoin, it'll be very niche and might not have much use outside this industry. That's why I thought it'll likely just be for these companies to collect funds.

Now it they are going to integrate it with other apps, then it might have a future. Maybe not only can fans get coins by buying with cash but maybe they can earn it on events, then they can spend it on merchandise. Of course it's best if it'll be like an actual crypto that can be used for purchases in other platforms.

It should really have that usage where everyone would benefit out.If these greedy bastards would end up on the common path then im sorry for the potential investors or die hard fans on this one.

Of course. Since it hasn't yet taken into effect or rather it hasn't yet made an effect, we can just wait for its results. It's quite obvious that one of their goals is to help the company, then the artists--and everything that comes next. In the beginning, you might feel that way but when supporters/investors actually care for the project, it will bring lots of opportunities. Now I don't wanna be called "optimistic" but I'd rather treat this as a "growing bud"--that when carefully tended and watered right, will bloom into a beautiful flower.

I don't think SM Entertainment is that stupid to just milk the fans--and the fans might be blinded to the fact that they're "supporting" their favorite artists, but I also think they're not stupid not to notice if they're being bamboozled. In addition, the way this planned out was actually brilliant. Taking advantage of the number of fandoms could take this project to places. It's not that they're forcing the fans to "buy/exchange" for their crypto, but if an idea comes to mind--I might think this is just like fundraising.

well that's right, of course the benefits people will increasingly trust crypto and many who use it. because k-pop fans are so incredibly enthusiastic that I know.

Well, same here. I want a project to be successful for once.

It's great to see that cryptocurrency is getting more and more relevant and known to the public. These projects introduce them the system and how it can be an alternative investment. Given that it's an entertainment firm and their fanbase is huge, not only in Korea but also around the world since they do tours, this 'may' have an impact. But I don't think it would be significant as of now, it's still too early to say if this would become successful or not. Either way, it's still good to see that crypto isn't falling but rather, growing slowly, and sooner or later be accepted worldwide.

I think crypto currency is still used, especially if they discount anyone who uses crypto currency to pay for tickets to their concerts and world tours. It certainly has a huge impact on crypto especially bitcoin as many kpop fans today are also millennials who should adopt bitcoin to increase support and pass this knowledge on to their friends.

Yes, it's still all suspicion that this might be like most cashgrab since there's not much info yet but who knows, they might surprise us. I've heard about Klaytn, who knows maybe this coin can be a part of that.

This is a business that utilizes the currently popular K-pop industry to engage in cryptocurrency to apply it to its fans and for those who are crazy fans will definitely apply it because they don't want to disappoint their idols and encourage to buy related merchandise in the K-pop industry to use cryptocurrency or other things, this is one of the developments in cryptocurrency for millennial adolescents because most of the K-pop industry is the majority that supports millennial youth throughout the world, especially in Korea.

This is actually very cool considering how many fans they have around the world , the altcoin would go up really soon but at the same time like any other coin , they are bound to go down .. I think most of the companies and the industries are trying to benefit from the cryptocurrencies by launching their own , instead of supporting the existing ones, that could be more sustainable and could work more.

The big question here is whether they are doing this as a result of their love for cryptocurrency, or due to their greed for money. And from what I could see, it is the second case. They are dishing out their own cryptocurrency. So we will be having another worthless shitcoin, on top of the 10,000 or so old ones. They expect their fans to purchase these coins, and they can get rich from the sales.

Any project of cryptocurrency that is being released now may not have effect on the market immediately, but it will be a factor for future effect when they eventually start functioning very well, because any project that is newly established will still have to go through the face  of actually winning the heart of people to get them to buy the coin, and after which there is another stage of getting them to constantly be visiting the project, but that will be determined by the quality of project that they have.

This type of project is really a good one, entertainment industry is a sector that can really take use to that level that we want., there are few entertainment projects that we have now, and I am sure that this one being one of the first will really have the hype and get their project to be successful.

Actually both. We can't neglect the potential of this project and the amount of money they could possibly gain. And unlike the other "10, 000 or so old one" projects, this one actually has the fandom/supporters others could never have--even combined. I believe they're not going to abandon the project as they are a renown entertainment company. And they would lose a lot of investors of the company if this project will result just like the others. And I think they've planned this out carefully so that their investors/supporters, as well as the fans, wouldn't be disappointed. And I'm sure the fans would respond to this as well.

If you're curious about who is SM Entertainment, I suggest you pay them (https://www.smentertainment.com/) a visit.

KPOP want to adopt bitcoin and altcoin?  I think very good ideas if KPOP become part with bitcoin and altcoin where they have many fans in the world, how when they sing a song and use bitcoin or altcoin as platform promote I think many fans of KPOP will invest with bitcoin and altcoin.

i am still confuse with correlation between KPOP with bitcoin.how they will adopt bitcoin in their show.except as payment in their concer, there is no rellation again between both of them. Maybe if they build aplication for their fans which is have content about their artist and pay with bitcoin , in my opinion it will make demand rise imppresively.but if theh developt their own currency and used it in theie ecosysten it also will has positive impact , more korean fans will know about cryptocurrency.

I do not see anything surprising in this, given that everyone who is not lazy is now joining the cryptocurrency hype.
Cryptocurrencies provide quite a lot of potential for the development of the future, this is a financial system that may well replace the current, or may not replace, but somehow it has a significant impact on the processes taking place in the world today. Due to the fact that a very strong interest in cryptocurrencies has already been created, the development of the technology itself continues without stopping, more and more people are accepting the idea that cryptocurrency is possibly our future. Even if the cryptocurrency does not receive maximum distribution in the future, it has a certain potential. Therefore, the largest companies are afraid of lost profits and they will maximize their influence in the cryptocurrency sphere in one way or another.

This is really new to me. Like cryptocurrency is way to different from KPOP thingy but they're making way just to connect it. I mean, it's a good thing that they're trying to adopt cryptocurrency. It means they're seeing the potential of cryptocurrency. But would it really help for mass adoption? I mean, their fans would give care about this? Or it's just another hype at first but won't really give much impact after. I don't see most fans will be interested about this. A lot of fans were actually still young to be interested.
I want to know the updates about SM Entertainment and their plan with regards to crypto.
