Title: Need 50 testnet BTC for experiment purpose, anyone can help? thanks!
Post by: coinwannabe on October 09, 2019, 03:24:23 PM
Hi everyone, I am doing some testing for experiment and academic research. I need to have around 50 BTC testnet. I tried get it from some BTC test faucet, however the allowed amount is pretty small per hour, e.g. 0.01 BTC testnet per hour.

Can anyone help to contribute? Thank you very much in advance!

Please let me know if any address I can return to you later.

Thanks again!

Either try to contact this user (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=317112) via a private message or consider using regtest mode (https://bitcoin.org/en/glossary/regression-test-mode) if you are running a Bitcoin Core client. This tutorial (https://bisq.network/blog/how-to-set-up-bitcoin-regtest/) should provide you all the necessary information about this feature.

What kind of testing and research would you need 50 for?

Every once in a while someone pops up asking for testnet coins not realizing that for the most part 50 or 5 or .5 or .05 are all the same for testing things.

I'd like 500 or 5000 for testing too. If it's all the same to you (and testnet coins have no value), maybe even bump it up to 50k or 500k. How many have been mined anyway? Maybe there's 5 million out there, the only problem is where are they, who has them, do they even have the private keys or are they lost already.

Apparently I'm not looking hard enough. I have some 0.03 testnet BTC in my Lightning wallet I got from various faucets.

I don't understand why but people do it,  people do crazy things use a lot of IP, scripts, change addresses to prevent blocking to get more and more testnet coins

This is one of many examples:

8.34076971 tBTC   1 736 transactions.

We created a testnet faucet to help developers and did not expect to encounter inexplicable greed of people.

I'm thinking either

1)For some odd reason they think they will be worth money.
or
2)To scam newbies not sure how as the wallet does say testnet, but who knows.
or
3) OK, I got nothing for #3

I have about 0.05 tBTC.  I had some ideas for a wallet, you see.  I guess I should return them to the faucet.  Are they going to be around for much longer?

The faucets? Probably. Before anyone try to build their product/service and put it live, they always need to test it to see if there isn't any issue/bug/vulnerability. And that's what the testnet is for. I myself already played with tBTC while doing some stuff with NodeJs.
