So my friends had convinced me to join their NBA fantasy league and it will be my first time ever playing in one so I'm technically new. I've seen a lot of guides and videos about basketball fantasy leagues and I have a general idea for it but I really want to know more suggestions and tips here in the forum especially from members here that are experienced with playing fantasy basketball. Our draft will be coming up by the end of the week so I'm maximizing my time preparing for it. The league type will be head-to-head based on the settings I have seen and if you want to have more specifics about my league format just tell me.

Generally I want to know answers from this:
  • What players to draft
  • What players to avoid
  • Strategy when picking from 1st to 5th
  • Strategy when picking in the middle spot
  • Strategy when picking on the 10th to 14th spot

Or any kinds of tips that won't at least make me look like a noob.

UPDATE

So I just finished our draft in the league today and I was picking 6th overall from a 14 team league that is on a serpentine format. I would say as a newbie I did a pretty good job on drafting players I like and a little bit fortunate that some teams have skipped gems. During the first round since I would be picking 6th I was hoping for one of the top five players to slip and luckily someone picked Jokic on hist 5th pick that is why Towns was still available. During the 2nd round this is where it started to get some wild picks from the other teams picking before me which made me land Kemba Walker which wasn't usually available in the 23rd pick. At the end Yahoo projected me to be the 2nd best team in our league which made me happy, or am I missing out something here? That Yahoo's projections are wildly inaccurate to base on who would be winning the league?

That's a good decision you draft their. As I can see, there are players that have enough scores for the team. Thank you for this op. In the future i'll be using this as my guide in who to choose between the players that you can choose for your draft. Honestly, i'm not good at what to do.

Update on my Matchday #1

So my team did pretty well mostly during October 23 since most of the players' games I drafted happened during this day and I have quickly won 8 out of the 9 cats. One thing to note that is Kemba Walker, my second rounder, did underperform on his first game and it was disappointing but fortunately Mitchell, Brogdon, and Towns stepped up during this day. Nobody had requested any trades from me yet but I'm expecting to receive one after a week or two of seeing how the other players want to improve their team. I personally need a PF/C so bad since all of my Centers can only play one position and this can potentially leave me one player short on some days.
