Title: [MERIT GIVEAWAY] Open to Newbies and jr members
Post by: Daniel91 on November 10, 2019, 02:44:40 PM
For some time now I have been reading and watching new members struggle to earn merit and progress in this forum.
It seems to me that the older members were more fortunate in this regard and did not have to fight so much for higher ranks in the forum.
In any case, I would like to give support to brand new members who have just registered in this forum and do not yet have the knowledge and experience about bitcoin or crypto to write very good quality posts.
So, please try to do some research about any topic connected with btc or crypto and write post on the forum, in the correct category.
After that, report your post here, share link from the post.
I don't have much available merits but I can promise now to reward 3 the best posts, by personal criteria, with merit.
All reported posts should be in English and please only publish the link, not the whole post.
The merit contest is open from now and will last for a week or two until enough quality submissions are collected.

This will be difficult and as you pointed out merit you can give is very limited.
This won't change big picture, but its little grain of sand to create beautiful beach :)
I hope you will receive decent submissions.

I support this idea, and I'd also help out on this thread with a few merits if i am to read any of the submitted posts and it's really good.
In any case, I would like to give support to brand new members who have just registered in this forum and do not yet have the knowledge and experience about bitcoin...
I think you should provide some clarity though, when you say brand new accounts, do you mean the contest is strictly for just newbies alone or accounts that have just registered on the forum and haven't made any posts(brand new account)
So, please try to do some research about any topic connected with btc or crypto and write post on the forum, in the correct category
And if newbies whom have made posts but haven't earned any merits are included, would you accept a post they made before this thread or only posts made after.

Nice idea@Daniel91

I'm not sure if my rank is permitted to participate in this merit contest but I'm dropping this here just incase.
Here is my submission from 3 weeks in the 10th anniversary art contest (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5193860.0). Got 2 merits from Theymos though.  :)

OK to clarify, I would like to support newbies who didn't receive any merit yet for their posts.
I will accept also posts made before this thread but not yet reported here.
If you received any merit please don't apply here.
So, yes, not just brand new accounts but any newbies without merit can apply.
Coyster thank you for your offer, I hope others will join as well, support with their merits, so that we can reward even more newbie users here and help them start in this forum.

It is a good thing to do in my opinion. It's really to find such newbies that have a good posts that didn't received any single merit. I think that newbies that didn't get merit but have posts that are meritable are most likely jr. members before until they ranked down to newbies after the rank requirements have changed by theymos. If only brand new accounts then mostly are still learning things.

Wow! This is generosity at it peak, and a very good initiative. We really need more people we are not just all about themselves but care about others in the forum as well. This is really good of you

That's nice of you. Yes, I completely agree that this forum is putting lots of pressure on the new accounts. Probably because of the number of spammy accounts increasing with the popularity of the forum... but i just find it 'unpleasant' to only be able to post something every 360 seconds lol.. bought a copper membership because of that. Maybe that's how this forum maintains server fees... maybe not.

I will try to post something and get back here. Thank you once again!

Ok,  I understand that newbie don't have experience and knowledge and can't write quality posts like more experience members in this forum but they also need to start somewhere,  right?
I can't help many newbie but at least I can help some of them and maybe inspire other "older " members to join and support this action with their merits.
I already see some interesting application so let's continue and help our new friends in the crypto world 😀

Nice one OP, i will join this as well.

I was a newbie few months ago, so i know how it is, and how much i appreciated early merits i got, as it was incentive for me to keep working on my posting quality so i hope this will have same effect on others.

I am looking forward to submissions, especially from those that think  they are undeservedly stuck at newbie rank for quite some time.

Title: Don't nest quotes in replies.

>..<

I started to look through your latest replies to see if I thought that any were merit worthy. I noticed that you tend to use nested quotes, and I don't award merits to such posts. Quote pyramids are really annoying, and don't really contribute to the reply. You should focus on the point you are addressing, and not duplicate the whole conversation.

As a newbie, I am very happy and really appreciate the efforts like this from the members who have a high ranking.

Previously, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mess up this thread, I just wanted to say thanks because I didn't have a post to review.

For the time being, I'm just trying to read and understand the rules of this forum in the hope that I don't crash into the rules here.

I hope the thread like this will remain until later, until the time when I have a post to review.  :)

No pressure, there are similar threads to this one which have been started, I'm not sure how many are still active. There are also other ways to gain merits; other users and sources. If you consistently post quality content, it would definitely be rewarded. Navigating the forum is very important.m especially for newbies, while we wait for the implementation of the welcome message, you can check out this suggested welcime video: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5194117.0

I have to admit I'm a little surprised here.
Given that many newbies complain about how difficult it is to get their first merit and how difficult it is to progress in this forum, I expected a lot more posts and interests.
If there is no newbie interest in this action then I would rather help other forum members and reward their quality posts with merits.
Ok, I edited the title a little bit so that it might be clearer what this topic is about, so let's wait and see.
Any newbie want to report his/her good quality post?

Maybe alot of other topics have been created after this to push it down, but I  think the new title should suffice and get the thread flooded with comments. Really good thing you are doing here.
I dropped mine as well , if you find it Worthy.

IMHO you might want to rephrase your thread. At a glance, I thought it's some wide-scale project until I realized it's a merit giveaway thread. Below is a title  example which you could apply or adjust to your preference:

[MERIT GIVEAWAY] Open to Newbies/ Jr Members

Then from there, your OP could be short but straightforward:
Quote
I'm giving up to 3 Merits to each user who links his/ her helpful posts. Just post yours if they deserve Merits

the same thing is done by our local community, help newbie get merit with some good quality posts, maybe most can try to make it in your local thread to build this community so they can help each other.

I expected a lot more posts and interests.
Me too, I have been keeping an eye on the thread since the day you posted it, as I promised to also give out the few Smerits I have if I find good newbie posts, but only about four newbies have till now dropped links to their posts, I'm disappointed at that number and I'm wondering if the reason is that this newbies lack good posts or are too lazy to drop a link to their good posts, when many times we see threads from them asking how they can earn merits.

I actually gave merits to @kinggta10,  because i think he really put work into making that post, it's all about consistency, if he only he continued to make good posts such as that, he maybe could have ranked up a little.
If there is no newbie interest in this action then I would rather help other forum members and reward their quality posts with merits
That is not a bad idea, and also, trying to help newbies rank up, should not also stop you from giving merits to other forum users(other ranks).

I really hope that reason why only a few newbies reported their posts here isn't because others have nothing to report or they are too lazy :)
Any way, we will see what happens next and if more candidates will report their quality posts.
I also rewarded user @kinggta10 with merit and I'm really astonished that he didn't receive any merit for his really good post since last year.
Even if only he used this chance to report good quality post and finally receive well deserved merit and become jr. member, I think this topic fulfilled intended purpose.
Good luck @kinggta10.
Now waiting for other newbies.

Very interesting and detailed.
Honestly,  when I started this topic I expected much more applications from newbie and jr members since they always complain it's difficult to get merits and progress in this forum.
But,  because there are no applications I consider to lock this topic and use my merits to support more my local community.

If you have some other posts you can report it here and I will check it out.

Hello there,
I posted my link since forever and you didn't even give a comment about it , you just neglected it. Well I think it is only normal you give the next available person since people didn't turn up as expected.

In my post , I talked about ways to be free of scam projects which has been plaguing the ecosystem.

If you still don't find my post worthy, no harm as you are just trying to help. A good heart you have got.

Godspeed.

This (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5194483.msg52844510#msg52844510) is the post you're referring to that was neglected right, while the post may not be too bad, neither is too good also, but I would advice that if you really have any plans to earn merits for yourself, you must decide if you want to rank up or if you want to continue with your social media bounties, because thats what I could find when I went through your post history.

I actually reviewed it, hoping I could find some other posts other than the one you linked, but I could not, maybe thats why you have not earned any merits on the forum, the merit sources and users who give merits most times check post history before they do so, especially if it is a newbie they want to give merits to.

As @Coyster said, if you focus on other parts of forum other than bounty section, and if you continue writing ok posts, merit will find your way soon and you might learn new things in the process.

Well,  I checked your post already first day and in my opinion it's not something what contribute to the forum or help other users.
I have certain standards and criterion for merits I share and I just didn't find that your post reached that standard.
Sorry about that.
I want to help newbie and jr members with merits here but it's not unconditional.
Every merit source have responsibility to reward  really good quality posts and I'm trying my best to fulfil this big responsibility I received.
Hope you can understand and accept it.

So, please try to do some research about any topic connected with btc or crypto and write post on the forum, in the correct category.
After that, report your post here, share link from the post.
I don't have much available merits but I can promise now to reward 3 the best posts, by personal criteria, with merit.
This will be difficult and as you pointed out merit you can give is very limited.
This won't change big picture, but its little grain of sand to create beautiful beach :)
I hope you will receive decent submissions.

I think it's a great initiative by senior members of this forum to help newbies. This will also help in  discouraging the trading of merits. I hope many more senior members will start such threads.

I like your art work you made for the contest so I gave you merit for it.
I see that you already received a lot merits for this work so I hope that you will receive even main reward 😁
Thank you for all suggestions.
Boss,  I'm sorry but I don’t feel that your post is good enough for merit.
Waiting for the new suggestions for merits.

Merit giveaway is still open so hurry up!
Still waiting for new applications.
I would like to see suggestions for good quality posts from newbie and jr members and reward really good posts which contribute to this forum or helping others.
I can't say how much more merits I can give this month but right now I can promise to give at least 2 more merits so really hoping to see more suggestions for merits here.
Thank you for understanding.

Very good posts AirdropNotifyer.
I'm happy to see that you, as young member on this forum, already fighting against SCAM projects, and in doing so you are also helping other users in the forum.
Congratulation for very good work.
I gave you merit for the first post but I may review also your other posts again, if no new applications for the merits here.
Any way, this Merit giveaway is still open so I'm waiting for new applications.

Ok since no new applications for merits I rewarded also your second post here.
Very good scam warning,  thank you for that
We should always be careful and read testimonies from others.
I really expected much more applications here for this merit giveaway since I know that usually new members struggle to earn merits and progress on forum.
Not sure if I should still keep this topic open if no interes for merit giveaway.

OK, I originally intended this merit giveaway for good quality posts from newbie and jr. members.
Unfortunately, contrary to my expectations, the application is almost non-existent, which really amazes me since I know how difficult is for the young members to progress in this forum.
the01crow, you really have very good quality posts and because newbie and jr. members are very silent ans shy here, I decided to reward one of your posts with merit.
I hope to finally see applications for merits from newbie and jr. members here.

I'm sorry to say that but I will have to lock this merit giveaway topic since almost no applications from the newbie or jr members in tze last a few days.
I know how difficult is for new members to make progress in this forum and that's why I really expected a lot applications and a lot more interest here, with many suggestions for posts which deserves merits.
But since that has not happened and the topic has been inactive for several days, I don't think it makes sense to keep it open anymore.
It will be much better for me to support young members elsewhere.
