Juba is a slang word in Hebrew for money. Its origin is in Arabic. Israelis and Arabs have a lot more in common. Juba is the first cryptographic coin with a goal to promote peace and cooperation between Israeli’s and Palestinians. There will ever be ten million Juba, nine million of which will be pre-mined. Anybody with an Israeli or a Palestinian mobile phone number can receive one Juba by sending an opt-in SMS.

The distribution will begin on April 1st, at 12:00 PM GMT+2.

The remaining million coins will be mined by the general public over a period of one year. On April 1st 2015, any remaining unclaimed coins, will be given away to charities focused on promoting peace and cooperation between Israel and the Palestinian people. 50% in Israel, and 50% in Palestinian territories

Epic fail.

Just another alt pump and dump.

If Middle Easterners want to get into crypto, the only valuable coin for them is bitcoin.

Why do we need this when Bitcoin is supposed to do this already?

Put your money and dev efforts into improving adoption of Bitcoin.  :)

It's not a pump and dump. All pre-mined coins will be held until claimed or until they're given away to charity.

It is a pump and dump, those poor Palestinians will be left holding the bag with worthless Juba coins. Better get them to invest in bitcoin instead.

he doesnt have "dev efforts"". thats like calling a script kiddy a elite hacker, purely because he is handed a sourcecode and alters 3 lines of code that some forum has told him to alter. and then came up with some lame story as to some ethical reason to use it.

altcoin creators are a waste of space and dont deserve a second thought

By giving it specifically only to people with an Israeli or Palestinian mobile number, we're helping create connection between these people. These connections will help promote peace and cooperation.

They're receiving them for free. If they're worth something in one year, great, otherwise nobody lost anything. And if none are left, then it must mean that those who opted-in and got them are holding something valuable. So it's win-win any which way.

With stuff like http://coingen.io there's no need for dev efforts. It's not dev efforts necessarily which give value to a coin, but the way it's marketed, target group, cause etc. If this coin is used by the people who received it for free, then it has value because of that. As I described already, there is no gain to the project starter. All coins will be claimed or given away to charity in one year.

You should be more specific, not all alt coins are bad :P (not just talking about LTC either).

In any event, this is the wrong section of the forums.

Nice idea but not sure how a cryptocurrency will help create peace. And the poorest people may not have the resources to use the coin, e.g. a mobile phone or computer, nor the education to understand how to use the coin. And would people buy their bread using this coin? I doubt it. I mean you can't even buy bread in the western world using bitcoin ... yet.

Lets see how the Iceland experiment does first. You can learn their lessons for free by just waiting 6 months  :). And also the USA/World experiment - i.e. BITCOIN. Once I can buy a latte with Bitcoin at most cafes then I'd consider solving world peace with crypto.

What are you going to do when your effort has the Israels and the Palestinians throwing their cell phones at each other?  :D
At least that would be an upgrade from what they have now.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I am all cynical too.

I find it hard to believe they are going to be able to give way the entire pre-mine with an opt-in SMS service.

Which would be easier to achieve?
Lasting peace in the Middle East, or peace and harmony in this community?

I think we got trolled. Skipped though it, and it appears all about killing American soldiers in Iraq.
