Mass adoption of bitcoin will never occur. Sorry! The price is far too unstable to be used as a form of payment. Businesses would get crushed if they took bitcoin as a payment due to the wild price fluctuations. Then you have to worry about the IRS on your ass to pay taxes. Is hodling worth the stress? Absolutely not. That's why women laugh at bitcoin and think it's a scam. Notice the crypto space is all dudes?

Say what you will about the US dollar, but it's still backed by a democracy and the most powerful military in human history. Accepted everywhere. Bitcoin is backed by absolutely nothing. Gold is backed by 5000 years of history of holding value, and is recognized worldwide. Women love gold. It's beautiful and tangible. A real asset worth owning.

I'm sorry, but you HODL'ers are mentally ill and are going to get crushed when bitcoin collapses in the coming recession. Bitcoin is going to get dumped fast as people need money to pay bills and survive. If you bought bitcoin early and already cashed out with gains, you are a wise investor and have my respect. If you're still hodling, your finances and reputation are on the line here. A reputation with your friends and family you can never get back. Don't risk it. #1  The US deficit is more than $20 trillion dollars. The European Union deficit is more than $16 trillion euros. Bitcoin doesn't necessarily need to go to the moon. As a store of value, it only has to be more stable and reliable than the US dollar and EU euro, both of which are prime candidates for hyperinflation and devaluation.

#2  The reason the US deficit is incredibly large involves the US military being unable to achieve goals in an affordable and cost effective manner. The only outcome of the US flexing its military muscle, is it driving itself further into deficit and debt. Military might should not be considered an expedient nor cost effective solution to issues relating to deficit, debt and financial insolvency.

If willingness to become rich is considered as a mental illness, I am happy to become one! But why do you bother?

Nah, we're fine. It's as if we wouldn't get crushed by the recession if we only have fiat. I'd rather take my chance with some bitcoins and some other assete so I'm not entirely relying on storing fiat which would be worth less during the crash.

The blockchain is what made bitcoin special. Your thinking about bitcoin is too narrow. FOMO in bitcoin is already over. How mass adoption is not possible if blockhain is permission less and transparent compared to the fiat? Our economy is evolving and we are moving towards innovation. Blockchain is the most perfect solution for the transaction issue of fiat. And bitcoin is the currency which above all coins.

I don't think you need to tell us about useless things and you say bitcoin will die in the future, how high do you understand bitcoin so you dare to say things like that, for us it's very unlikely because we've been through a lot of fun and obstacles with bitcoin when investing with it because we are very confident about bitcoin and we have understood a lot about the nature of bitcoin so we don't experience losses.

Same predictions were done about BTC in Feb this year when price went down to 3500 USD, it crossed 10,000 USD within just 3 months (if I m not wrong).  BTC is here to stay n hodl has it's own power.

Most people fear of missing out that's why they are actually holding their bitcoins for such a long time, they fear that as soon as they decided to cash out its going to either go to $20K or better yet $30K, others bought their bitcoins around $15K and selling would mean a huge loss for them so they just have to continue holding.

Quite opposite - BTC HODLers are the ones who are helping the system.

There are two 101 rules in life and economy: supply and demand and they have an influence on the price of anything.

HODLers are helping in regards to supply - if they do not sell their BTC, but instead of it accumulate more, then there are in general less BTC available on the market.
This, combined with the fact that mining difficulty is increasing and upcoming halving (so then miners reward for mining 1 block would be just half of what they get now) are the factors which limit the available number of BTC available (not to mention the coins lost for good).

This are (as long as there is demand) the clearly bullish price factors.

What you should complain about are rather the whales which try to control the market by artificially manipulating price thanks to single very big size orders. And as the market is relatively small now, it is much easier to be done than with stocks, precious metals or oil.

Hodl means you don't trade your position with every up and down of the market. I don't agree with you, even if you happen to be right, that Bitcoin could collapse one day and people will pull out and stop using it in mass droves like they did during the big bubble, which had Bitcoin seeing prices of $20,000 per coin, it still wouldn't stop people from simply just picking up a another promising coin. There are numerous promising Blockchain & cryptocurrency based projects which solve most of Bitcoins problems. It's silly to believe that "Bitcoin" is the coin of all coins. Probably 95% of the population doesn't even know what block chain technology is. Bitcoin is too complex and the price is too unstable for mass adoption. Sorry if I hurt some HODL'er feelings here. Credit card transactions are still wayyyy easier. You people need to stop living in fantasyland.

Emm, mentally ill? I don't think so because I hold my bitcoin after I sold almost all of my bitcoin in 2017 so I can buy back Bitcoin at $3,000. I am sure that is not greedy because if you bought bitcoin at $3,000, you would make a huge profit if you still hold from that time and sell it right now. You don't have to hold bitcoin for a long time if you cannot do that, but you can sell it if you can see the profit. Maybe you need to learn more about how to buy and sell bitcoin, so you don't say like that. Many of us learn from our mistakes and hope that we don't make the same mistake. It's normal to regret what we've done before, but we still have a chance to fix the mistake and take the profit.

Bitcoin is in limited supply and is backed by a real technological advancement called the Blockchain. I am sure people will still want to accumulate and also trade this asset, just like many other digital currencies/currencies/commodities/sticks and other are traded. The U.S dollar is at the moment growing with debt due to quantitative easing practices and since it was un pegged from the gold standard thanks to President Nixon, it has lost a lot of face value. As sensible investors though, it is god to hedge your bets and have a basket of assets, fixed and liquid, not just own Bitcoin or USD for example.

You are saying something nonsense.  Take a look at the history of Bitcoin, the volume of transactions, and the world's understanding of Bitcoin.  Currently, some big countries like Australia, Netherlands, France, USA ... have included Bitcoin and Blockchain and in their curriculum.  This shows that Bitcoin and Blockchain are socially accepted and students will continue to develop it in the future.

I think as long as we can use bitcoin to search for money and we can get that money, we don't have to say that bitcoin will be useless in the future because time will tell what will happen in the future. I would generously agree with you that for sure Bitcoin holders can be mentally ill, thankfully there can be no enough medical facilities to house us if we are going to be diagnosed as such and if the government will decide that all mentally-ill Bitcoin holders will be transported to the government-mandated facilities somewhere. Now, having said that, it would be our consolation that many of the people who changed history and who change the whole game were also accused of being crazy. So in case you want to be a part of the history and be pushing for something that can make all people of the global go crazy, then be a part of the mentally-ill Bitcoin club.

Here's what I think why it seems you misunderstood the essense of cryptocurrency.
First of all, it wasn't created as stable coin. That makes bitcoin special because it is volatile.
Second, we are not in a hurry for mass adoption. People are started to learn about bitcoin, started to become curious, started to use and patronize it. From that, I believe it is a first step for adoption.
Third, being greed and other emotions you have mentioned is part of us. It isn't considered as mentally ill. I mean your point of view is so pessimistic and opposite from what we believe here.

I agree with many people keep holding their bitcoin or altcoin assets because have chance at next time on higher price, many investor keep trust with bitcoin and altcoin back to higher although with not support condition where bitcoin and altcoin keep on lower price, I think better keep hold your bitcoin and altcoin assets without care what people said and they want to make you give up to sell bitcoin and altcoin with lower price.

Probably to create some FUD and whether he'll be able to convince some so he can buy back BTC at lower price. This post may trigger some newbies and believes him, but nonetheless it will be based in our decision whether to sell or hold and not just because someone told us were ill. I'm still holding some BTC and I'm proud to wait, while I'm trading some alts. It will all depends on how we can manage to still earn even the market sometimes not in favor with us.

No we aren't. And my latest realization has given me insights that hodling is the best strategy. Looking at the price of bitcoin now and again would make you unsatisfied. You may look at it and say the price has crashed from last week but if you look at the long term, the price is still a larger than the average price of bitcoin this year. And much more higher than last. If you keep on hodling, you'll surely get a good profit one day. Just stop calculating your profit or loss everyday. You'll have no profit or loss unless you sell.

I believe the OP is the one who dont understand the what bitcoin is and the reason why crypto currency was implemented in the first place. However, chart are for making predictions and everybody in the cryptosphere knew that predictions are not always right.

I'll tell you my story in short. I got interested in this as a form of hedging against my government and banks snooping into my account and having the ability to freeze my assets. I needed something that wouldn't get blocked so I bought some Bitcoin in 2013. I'm a stubborn guy so when it was going down I held and when it was going up I kept selling a bit from the top to have some fun with it. So I had like 30 BTC at first, sold some in the GOX bubble, then held all the way down through 2014, 15 and 16 buying a little bit every time it broke the support and went down. I told myself I'd never sell below 10k again and so I am holding. Even if I go down with the ship it's been one hell of a ride.

I don't think I'm a bag holder. I see the value and the potential in Bitcoin and it's serving my main purpose which is holding value and being safe. The profits are a nice addition to all of it. My BTC would have to go back to $500 for me to be holding a bag, but even then my realized profit would be 100 times higher than my investment in 2013.

The truth is - no one is going to force you to make use of Bitcoin or invest your money in it, it's a thing of choice. You only invest in Bitcoin if you want to and no one is going to tell you what you are meant to do. And the truth is that it doesn't work for everyone, I have seen a lot of people that lost their money from investing in Bitcoin, so it's not a must. Maybe the price will not grow again, I don't know for sure, maybe it will remain stable. But one thing I don't miss is opportunity. I don't invest in bitcoin at all times, I only invest when I want to and most of the times I only use it for transactions.

Investing in bitcoin was surely a big risk in your money. But as we know bitcoin was a real digital currency it is a cryptocurrency and it has its value in the market.
It is not a Ponzi scheme as we know there are already a lot of people that become rich because of bitcoin.
Watching bitcoin market price was surely stressful especially when you could see your investment falling apart but as we can see today bitcoin already reach almost 20k$ in the market in the past years and today playing at a price of 7k$-10k$ what makes you think that bitcoin has no potential in making a profit.
If you are not into investing in bitcoin you should not do it anyway, also it is not recommended to invest all your money in bitcoin it will not hurt your brain if you still have enough passive income anyway.

This is a natural concern for people who bought into bitcoin as a Get rich quick scheme. People heard from a friend about a friend who bought them and sold during the 20K ATH. Then they decided to invest into it with a zeal that should only be reserved for things you understand.
The fault lays with those super enthusiastic posts about moon and lambos on twitter and Reddit There was a lot of manipulation too. There are lot of people who will advice you to buy but the best way is to get involved, Stack Sats and only invest the surplus. Use it if you understand it and it benefits you.
The early adopters who held on during wild swings only have themselves to give credit to if their patience paid off. That is true for any investment. Irrational hatred towards them is no use. I do wish though that these so called "millionaires" did more to promote actual economic activity than building their own fiefdoms.

the history of the previous halving is the same as now, where before halving happened, the price decreased, but in fact what happened? after halving the price going to the moon. I think this only came from a few parties who wanted to get a cheap price before it really went away when halving happened. let's see 2020-2021 the time for history will repeat itself.

I have been dealing with the bank for the past week sorting my account out since I somehow don't seem to receive all transactions going in. All it proved to me was that bitcoin is far superior. I don't have to phone a dumb ass bank and deal with idiots that actually don't care if my account works or not since they just filling in the hours and getting paid for it. They don't care if I lose business or can't do something because I do not have fiat in my bank account? I had access to only $25 for this whole weekend because of the bank. I was meant to get a deposit last week. I barely use my bank account and only use it basically as a wallet for when I need to spend fiat. I hold everything in crypto and as soon as I can use crypto to pay for food and the bills I am shutting my bank account the hell down because it is a disgusting experience and I have to have to rely on some other person.

With bitcoin, I am the bank I am in control. I fix my own account. It is my money after all so I want full control over it. No government in the world will take my crypto nor tax me on it. They can !#@# right off.

If you are going to give reasons for not holding at least try harder, if the US dollar is being backed by the US military and gold is backed by history then we can say that bitcoin is being backed by its technology and all the computational power that miners use to secure the network every day and that is worth something, your argument about bitcoin been a Ponzi scheme doesn't make sense either because if that was true then every single stock and investment that you make follows that very same logic and should be considered to be a Ponzi scheme.

What loss? Most of us long time hodlers bought BTC below 1k. Wake up man! Bitcoin is 10 years old and only about 3 years trading for more than 1k USD. I had Bitcoins when they were worth 300 USD per coin, what cutting losses are you talking about?

As always - go against the tide, during panic sells you buy, when greed blinds people you sell. And buying when the breakfast tv is fuelling the hype is the worst decision you can make (unless you will keep BTC in your wallet until the next bull market with new all-time highs takes place).

Of course this is not the most effective way of investing in BTC, but it works if you have little trading skills.

It's been really painful holding bitcoin for more than 5 years. Back then, it was worth about $100 to even $200 per one full bitcoin. I can't hold on to it forever. Let it go. Let it go.  The cold doesn't bother me anyway.

Patience is required while doing holding but the problem is people still holding their bitcoins even the market is now proving that they are wrong. What I mean is they have a lot of hope and it is the reason why their portfolios are gradually declining.

This is what I want to know. We have had the value of the bitcoin paid back to us a long time ago and now we are reaping the reward. I feel for people who sold at 4k. It did stay down at 4k for a long time even I worried.
I still held. I just spend more bitcoin when the price goes up and then I work more when the price is low to replace what I have used.

That is up to each person to decide and there are many different opinions about it, but at least I think that many of the long term holders will agree that this is not the right moment to sell their coins and get out of the market, the price is still very low, it could have been better to cash out in July when the price was above 13000, but there are others that do have a goal and as soon as bitcoin reaches that goal they will sell.

But there are other holders that question whether or not it is even a good idea to sell your coins, if bitcoin becomes as successful as projected there will be no need to cash out at all and we could use our bitcoin freely and anywhere we want.

Before investing with bitcoin or altcoin we have know what risk, many people already know bitcoin can increase investing with higher profit but never ready when bitcoin come down and have lower price, how ever we need for waiting and become holder after our assets investment have lower price, its can be mentality to know what have to do when assets have lower price.

I think, in this regard, it's interesting to explore what is the difference between buying something with BTC and simply cashing it out. It's obvious that there is a chance that the seller will cash out a big part, if not the whole amount, right after the trade is done. But can we estimate how big that chance is? In my opinion, in most cases, seller will keep at least a part of the amount in BTC, in hopes of cashing out when the price is higher.

Identify what kind of hodler are you? Are you the one who hold bitcoin in a long time and you will keep holding it if the market crashed? Or are you the type of the hodler who I can say that a trend follower where you will only hold bitcoin if the market is bull. A trend follower is a type of hodler that we should do because the chance of winning is high. As my personal experiece, I lose money in holding due to the bearish market and it is now not good to hold bitcoin if the market is in downtrend.

You are entitled for your own opinion, but better to share some info here to help us understand your insights, don't just create FUD and tell people that Bitcoin will die, because they already know what they are doing and as we can see that the number of users still continuously increasing, so I doubt that you are telling the truth, but you are just here to manipulate weak hands.

Holder mentally have been strong because many investor not ready when bitcoin have lower price, they will frustrated when looking bitcoin have lower price because buy bitcoin with higher price, just few people and investor have ready for investing with bitcoin or altcoin and ready faced with moment when bitcoin have lower price because every investing have risk.

mentality is indeed important when making an investment, because when we do not have a good mental state, there can be losses when investing. because in investment, especially crypto which has an unstable price, definitely requires a stronger mental than investing in other fields

When the price of the bitcoin is still not reached thousand dollar per each, I can say that holding is good. Today there are many hodlers who still have enough patience even though they lose a lot of money from bitcoin. I know it is hard to let go into something that you have high hope. Hodlers should have limitation and they should be aware on cut loss for them to minimize their losses.

We are Bitcoin enthusiast but we are not hurt if you wanted to hurt us. But I guess, you need to understand how Bitcoin works and Bitcoin hodling is common and we just need to encourage the Crypto people to circulate or spend their Bitcoins so that Bitcoin will be healthy and active. It is also the same as fiat sometimes when in terms of money circulation.

It's still too soon to say any of these. Just a few years ago, it was below $200. Now it's at least above $7000. Even if it goes down to $5000 or $4000, that's still much better than a couple years ago. Understandably, people want it to go back to ATH or beyond.

You can't do hodl forever. Hold does not consistently win. You need to make a plan. Sales are needed when the right time comes. If you do not sell at the right time, there will be very bad results. Hold has no meaning.

I completely agree with what the OP said, I been there done that since bitcoin was at few hundred bucks, seen what I had to see and I'm out.

Everyone has their own opinions but always stick to your opinion if that what makes you feel better.

p.s, bitcoin helped me alot moving funds from country to country but that's not the case, I'm not gonna feed a whale Private jet trips because I put in 20k investment or even a million dollar investment

everyone has a different opinion about bitcoin, some reject and some accept. but you shouldn't say rude that bitcoin holders mentally ill are very rude.
if you don't believe in bitcoin it's your right but don't insult those who believe in bitcoin. many people can achieve financial freedom because of bitcoin investment. although bitcoin doesn't have strong support like usd but it doesn't mean bitcoin is weak. bitcoin has survived for 10 years and currently also has a good development every year more and more governments and companies are accepting bitcoin. so I'm sure even though the current value of bitcoin is going down in the future bitcoin will pump again.

Exactly, besides you don't need to place all of your funds in Bitcoin that is why they always said you should invest only the amount you can afford to lose. Way back 2009 Bitcoin was almost priceless in fact I think 10,000 is just worthy of a pizza, what am I pointing out is that you never knew the market and even the Bitcoin is unpredictable you can either gain profit or loss it, you take the risk.
