USA has changed to 27.6-37.6% if china made 27.6  if cuba or korea 37.6%

and 2.6 % if mining gear is from other countries then the ones above

and was always 2.6% if over 2500 and any old thing from anyplace.

plus your state if it has sales tax wants a piece.

in NJ it is around 7% on any import of

any kind = some exceptions are clothes.
any price
any place.

Not true. It's 2.6% and Section 301 ruling still 25%. What minefarmbuy referenced previously that showed 35% was for goods from Cuba or North Korea.

changed it.

Still  27.6%  plus 7% for NJ = 34.6%   a lot of coin to pay the government.

For Canada. The 5% is only the base rate and what is expected for a business or importing to a business, that is the GST {Goods and Services Tax}. Everyone has to pay this on import. A registered business is exempt from paying PST {Provincial sales tax} on the items they purchase for their business - that or they make a claim for reimbursement.

So for any personal purchases you get hit much harder in most provinces, which varies by province. See below the additional % you can expect to pay for personal import of mining gear. Some of the provinces below use an HST tax system so I'm unsure how they go about handling this portion of taxation but I always assume the officials will get their dollars from you at some point.

Alberta                                   0%
British Columbia (BC)                        7%
Manitoba                                   7%
New-Brunswick                               10%
Newfoundland and Labrador       10%
Northwest Territories                        0%
Nova Scotia                               10%
Nunavut                                        0%
Ontario                                      8%
Prince Edward Island (PEI)              10%
Québec                               9.975%
Saskatchewan                            6%
Yukon                                       0%

My personal experience has always been that I pay a lump sum to whoever the carrier is before it leaves their warehouse for delivery.

You guys can update this for Romania,it is 19% VAT rate, and NO additional duties. They wanted to do -1%, making it 18% for 2019 but that went out the window ,we`ll see what 2020 will bring.
Can confirm this 100%
Cheers  :D

EU VAT you can usually claim back (or not pay) as a EU VAT registered company.
Not that it helps miners with the power rates all over the EU...

Same here in Serbia, but not every miner has company under his name or wants to be connected to company. Also, there is a lot of laws that might make it harder for you to do that or even forbid you from doing that. In Serbia, miners are categorized as machines for gambling (even though they are not that per se).

I imported 3 PSUs and 2 ASICs via my company and was able to claim back VAT (at end of the year) for 3 PSUs but I couldn't claim it back for ASICs and it made paperwork a hell of a mess that year.

For individuals however, you cannot claim back or skip paying VAT in majority (or whole) EU and Europe even.

Thank you for the updates all. I'll check and adjust the first post this week.

I'm also working on a de minimis list but my data is a couple years old, hopefully I can get more recent info sort term for a new thread on that.

Not that it matters for asics as much since there was no exemption, but most US tariff exemptions have ended in the US as of Jan 1st, likely you'll see increases in pricing for other equipment relevant to mining.

It is worth mentioning that, as of July 2021, all orders originating in countries outside the European Union are subject to the payment of VAT, regardless of the value of the order.

Value Added Tax. The amount of VAT all depends on which non-US country you live in. The USA only has the Trump Tariff.

Is anyone aware of any current tariff information regarding China vs Hong Kong origin?  I recall Hong Kong previously being declared autonomous from China, and the 25% tariff not being applicable to items originating from HK.
I got shipping information from Bitmain today and tracking shows it originating in HK.  Which offers a glimmer of hope to avoid tariff.  But I also recall possibly seeing information that rules changed, HK being declared "not autonomous enough", and items from HK needed to be labeled as made in China.

Anyone have actual knowledge or recent experience, or am I just gonna wait and see?

Hong Kong has very few component production companies or assembly factories and where the major production of sub assemblies and final assembly occurs is what matters. In other words most of Bitmain miners are Made In China. Not sure if BM still runs any Malaysian factories that they used to get around the tariff regulations.

Yer just going to have to wait and see.

Units arrived today, after I was contacted by UPS yesterday.   And the answer is..... YES.  I did have to pay the 25% tariff.

Country of orgin is what matters, location of shipment is moot concerning declirations on import.

Bitmain puts $150 as the value of the miners on the shipping invoice that goes to customs, so the 25% tariff ends up being around $37.

I highly doubt that as it creates a huge risk for them. Prove it.
Them doing something like that is highly illegal and if caught doing it WILL result in them not being allowed to ship ANYTHING to the USA.
Everyone here in the the Forum that live in the USA has had to pay the tariff.

I too will confirm that Bitmain would NEVER falsify the value. Doing that is a great way for not only the US but pretty much any other country's Customs folks put a block on all shipments entering their country. Remember, the EU also has a hefty import tax -- VAT -- that is also based on declared shipment value.

Btmain nor any other manufacturer or distributor would risk that.

Just dos search using "Brazil import tax".
one result is https://www.privacyshield.gov/article?id=Brazil-Import-Tariffs
another is https://santandertrade.com/en/portal/international-shipments/brazil/customs-procedures
A quote from that last one
Quote
Rates usually vary between 10% and 35%
Later on in the search you come across numbers as high as 60%.
Ouch!

It's more than 60%, it seems the Brazil customs charged twice :(
The first time they charged 60% of the total value(Miner value plus shipping cost)
The second time they charged 25% of the total value plus the first tax.
For example, if the miner value is $800 and the shipping fee is $200
The total import tax is : ($800+$200) * 60% + [ $1000+ ($800+$200) * 60%] * 25%=$600+$400=$1000

The rate of GST varies from 5% to 28% depending upon the category of goods and services, the general rate of tax being 18% in india. Additionally, for certain goods a Compensation Cess is also levied at various rates prescribed by the  India Government.
