Title: Stats on active & merit status of Donators & VIPs after 10 years Post by: tranthidung on December 12, 2019, 08:01:47 AM I get the list of VIPs and donators here: https://bitcointalk.org/donate.html [1]
Then I traced and used the last merit data update from LoyceV to have some statistics: - Active status - Sent & earned merits. According to [1], there are 153 VIPs/ donators in total. Sample size: 153 cases. The percentages for VIPs and donators are 24.8% and 75.2%, respectively. Active status: The active status based on the period from the last log-in day to till today.
Generally, 58.2% of them likely abandoned the forum, whilst 18.3% are extremely inactive, and 23.5% are actively on the forum. Over groups (VIPs and donators), the percentages of abandoned ones are nearly the same in two groups, 57.9% for VIPs and 58.3% for donators. For extremely inactive ones in VIP-group are higher than in the donator-group at 23.7% and 16.5%, respectively. The percentage of active ones in VIP-group is 18.4%, that is much lower than the figure of 25.2% for the donator-group. See bar charts below for details. https://www.talkimg.com/images/2023/11/21/F5bB1.png https://www.talkimg.com/images/2023/11/21/F5K3l.png Sent & earned merits: Generally, 64.7% (99 cases) not sent / earned a single merit, 26.8% (41 cases) earned only, 0.7% (1 case) sent only, and 7.8% (12 cases) both earned and sent at least a single merit so far. Over groups (VIPs/ donators), the figures for values of merit status between two groups are unsignificantly different. See bar charts for details. https://www.talkimg.com/images/2023/11/21/F5OzW.png https://www.talkimg.com/images/2023/11/21/F5Ddm.png Other notes: Code: +-------------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Trust status: VIP group has higher figures for negative trustscores. Of course, each trust score (negative or positive) does not represent same level of severity but at least statistics below can give us an acceptable overview. https://www.talkimg.com/images/2023/11/21/F5elC.png https://www.talkimg.com/images/2023/11/21/F5WhJ.png I much appreciated help from SFR10, DdmrDdmr, and LoyceV. Hopefully we can stimulate the forum to avoid losing any more.

Thanks. Stats in OP are correct but the part you mentioned is incorrect. I made some typos but I updated OP with help from DdmrDdmr. If you know their details (userid), please give me details. And how many BTC would this status be in terms of the present?? Cause 10-50 BTC now represent a whole different value as back in the day.... Of-course we have prove that 1BTC = 1BTC but still, I think those Nrs should be revised. Title: Re: Stats on active & merit status of Donators & VIPs Post by: shield132 on December 12, 2019, 03:03:14 PM So we have lost most of our VIPs and donators. Hopefully we can stimulate the forum to avoid losing any more. As I see most people in that category were actively using this forum in past but now they abandoned it, that's sad but at some point we got new blood on this forum, new people who are very active and beneficial.Btw for me not this stats but it will be interesting to know who has deposited the most bitcoin calculated in USD amount, I mean deposit of bitcoin when it's price was high, 50 bitcoin has different value 8 years ago and 9 years ago, there was difference even in months so that's why I am asking, who was the biggest donator ever. Btw what LoyceV said is 100% right, imagine when paying 10 000 bitcoin in pizza, bitcointalk would make me depressed if that person were me. Title: Re: Stats on active & merit status of Donators & VIPs Post by: dzungmobile on December 12, 2019, 03:09:16 PM Btw what LoyceV said is 100% right, imagine when paying 10 000 bitcoin in pizza, bitcointalk would make me depressed if that person were me. If I had made it, I would have never revisited the forum. Visiting the forum, and reading about Bitcoin kill me. It gives us a likely good inference on the higher percentage of neg trusted/ flagged/ scammed VIPs, compare to donators.I don't retrieve data on trust points of all 153 users, so if you can and feel interested in, please give me the list, LoyceV. When I took data, most of donators have neutral or minor positive trust (default), whilst if VIPs have neg trusts, they are significant neg trusts. I only noted ones who get neg trust from admins / from the others AND / OR active flags There is no data when they donated so your question is challenging. VIP group has higher figures for negative trustscores. Of course, each trust score (negative or positive) does not represent same level of severity but at least statistics below can give us an acceptable overview. Notes: All values identified with trustscores

I found it.
If you donate 10 BTC (which pays for about a month of hosting), you get donator status: List of VIPs and donators likely sorted by their donating time (I guess so). The second VIPs at the bottom (above TradeFortess) is lixaolai. That VIP was inactively posted since 2014. Form post history, I guess that VIP donated in the period from July 2011 to April 2013. I bet on April 2013.It was supported by post history of two other VIPs (above and below lixaolai): The first post of TradeFortress on September 2012 (what I saw today, not sure deleted posts that probably before September 2012). The first post of mLiberty (just above lixaolai in the list) is April 2013. If my guess is correct, the forum has last VIPs sometime around mid of 2013. Probably
And how many BTC would this status be in terms of the present?? Cause 10-50 BTC now represent a whole different value as back in the days ... Badges for VIPs or donators are not only visual recognitions for their past contributions to the forum, but also a kind of recognition for very early adopter of Bitcoin. They play some roles in the growth of crypto, somewhat they brought Bitcoin to the world. But they are not only ones because there are people who did the same things but did not donated.Title: Re: Stats on active & merit status of Donators & VIPs Post by: SFR10 on December 13, 2019, 08:57:50 AM it will be interesting to know who has deposited the most bitcoin calculated in USD amount, I mean deposit of bitcoin when it's price was high, 50 bitcoin has different value 8 years ago and 9 years ago, there was difference even in months so that's why I am asking, who was the biggest donator ever. Based on the following post, "Claymore (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=306958)" might be the biggest donator [in USD]:Thanks to Claymore, the first Donator in quite some time. - Bitcoin's worth on that day = $1,242

First of all, congratulations on collecting and compiling the information presented. I really had no idea how low the level of trust among donors was. But, this was certainly the result of the hack that occurred, and the fact that these donors were not active, the accounts lost control. https://www.talkimg.com/images/2023/11/22/FKYwH.jpeg On the other hand, whenever you update the OP, make a post, so everyone can see the new data. ;) Title: Re: Stats on active & merit status of Donators & VIPs after 10 years Post by: tranthidung on November 25, 2023, 11:17:25 AM First of all, congratulations on collecting and compiling the information presented. People can change themselves in both directions, good and bad so what happened with VIP, donator members are not weird things in life.I really had no idea how low the level of trust among donors was. But, this was certainly the result of the hack that occurred, and the fact that these donors were not active, the accounts lost control. Notice that about VIP members, there are some honorable VIP members because of their contributions for Bitcoin in early years, they did not donate 50 BTC like other non-honorable VIP members. Quote On the other hand, whenever you update the OP, make a post, so everyone can see the new data. ;) After replying in another thread, I directed the answer to this topic and I had to upload broken images because of imgur.com's proxy issue. They are all old data years ago and no update at all, honestly.I will give you update on it soon as some years passed already. Title: Re: Stats on active & merit status of Donators & VIPs after 10 years Post by: wallet4bitcoin on December 03, 2023, 09:57:57 AM The statistics doesn't surprise me at all. I didn't expect people who make donations to be active with their accounts.
There is a tendency that they would not be actively involved but just want to be a part of the forum as respected members. The statistics proves this tendency right as 58% of the people with donations have abandoned their account. I enjoy the fact that one has to grow to certain levels in the forum to appreciate ranks and one's knowledge as well grows with it. I believe more in the process than the product. |
