Title: Post count issues going in forum?
Post by: 2double0 on December 15, 2019, 02:22:53 PM
Your bitcointalk profile link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=153776
Your current posts count (including this one): 2246
Amounts of merits that you earned in the last 120 days: 24
Your correct BTC Address: bc1ql4gn6r75sydqwe99qz6nc44mvkzcfc4hqwqn3y

I know this is an application and has nothing to do with this thread, but it can work as a proof here.

Including that application post, my post count was 2246
During first week of my participation in this campaign, I could only make 4 posts which tallied to 2250 (check the sheet here (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1c3TqgcXRXY1I22qq-uYAS3SujM7vCtfvQgPmVpsiSf0/edit#gid=2025161549))

Now, I made around 7 posts this week totalling it to 2257 but 1 of my posts got deleted and my post count is now 2256 (after this post, 2257 again) but if you check my post history, scrolling down to this application, you will see that this application is on #9 (will be on #10 after this post) but according to my post number, I should have 6 posts this week instead of 4 posts based on my post count number. I don't know which 2 of my posts are missing for this week but I think there is some issue with either the number of posts the forum is showing or my posts are missing. Are you facing the same problem?

Probably that was deleted and you did not receive a notification from the forum. It will notify you if the deleted reply comes from a self-moderated thread or a deleted by the MOD's. If MOD's delete a useless/spam thread the entire replies were also deleted(including your reply/post) and that is the reason why you did not receive even notification and your post count will become lesser. I also encounter this and I saw the topic here in meta discussing regarding this issue but I don't know where to find it now.

I guess he is referring to something else. After his application to the signature campaign, he made 10 posts. When he applied the post count was 2246, since he made 10 posts, his post count would be 2256 or less (if he got some post deleted) but his post count is higher than expectation.
I guess it is a bug from the forum or some of your deleted post has been recovered by moderator/admin.

~~~
I have experienced it before, but cant remember it maybe several times because I dont mind. What I can understand from the problem you are experiencing is the reduced number of posts that you make without notice. IMO, This is possible because the moderator deleted the thread you posted earlier. Such deletions are usually not given notice. I think you can understand it.
There are enough threads that should not have been made, but had to be made. Avoiding this type of thread is something that you must do if you, I, and others do not want to experience the problem you have described.
...snip...
Probably, you did not get my point there.  ;D
Before diving into a topic, you should carefully read the matter inside, dear.
I wrote about my post number:
According to my post history, my application was made on Dec 4, 2019
The posts were 2246 including the application post, READ CAREFULLY.  :o
After this post, my post count will be 2259.
2259 - 2246 = 13 posts and 2246 was my application post number. Now, check my post history.
The application post has shifted to #12, but it should be at #14 based on the difference. So, 2 posts are missing in between. This is what I'm not getting here.
Exactly this.
Obviously, it's a bug. Now, at the time I am making in this post, there are 2257 posts in your post history while your post count is 2259.
Sorry, it's my bad. Yeah, It's looks like a bug. Are you sure your not mistaken writing in 2246 post count in your application?
If you have posts or topics made on Serious discussions board (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=250.0) same as on Ivory Tower (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=251.0), then that's the case since posts on that board are not counted.
- Posts in Serious Discussion only activate a potential-activity period. They do not increase your post count.
Or something like this happened. Though much better if mods can explain here as well.
Maybe you posted something in thread which has been moved to "trash can"? Technically your post still exist but it is in section you can't see, that would explain wrong numbers.
Seems that you misunderstood the OP.
The issue is that the post count is higher than number of posts made.
Has it ever happened before? I am still seeing the number higher there, or may be my posts are missing? I think I made 2 posts in one thread 'the same one', so if that thread goes to 'trash can't, my posts will also be gone. But why didn't the number got updated here? Do admins or mods need to see into this issue? I mean is it serious?
I think that if moderators join in, I can get the answer I am looking for.
Posts made in threads are deleted to trash can will force the post count decreased. In that situation, posters are not received message for deleted posts, but post count is surely dropped.
I don't know if that explains your problem, but I see 3 of your recent messages (December 13th) in the trashcan. All 3 are from the topic:"TO THE MOON GAME | A Game Uniting Trading & Gambling" (topic id : 5208815).
Make it simple, if a thread moved into trashcan all the reply will move same as thread. So if you made post on such as topic that were moved into trashcan then it will not count with your total post and you will not receive any messages from forum. Because moderators moved whole thread, not only deleted your post. And @Halab already mentioned where you had made the post. So it's normal as far as I know and it has been happen with me as well. Most likely we will receive notification if any of our specific reply/post got deleted.
Thank you for reminding me of the thread I was looking for.
I told about this earlier that I made 2 posts (didn't knew it was 3), but why did the post number not update yet? Did I face off with a bug here and is it for the first time? I think I should get a bounty here for reporting this.  :P
This [highlighted part].
- Perhaps you can only wait for the next recount to fix it...
- There are a few rare mod/admin actions which change your real number of posts but neglect to update your post count.
- Errors can occur which can cause it to drift from the real value.
- If your account is fairly old, then previous post-count recounts will have counted your MOVED: redirection topics, even though these are not counted when you make them. I fixed it this time so that these topics are not counted, undoing the previous erroneous recounts.
I did a global recount of user posts starting yesterday. Your post count had been inaccurate.
I did a recount of post counts earlier today. There are several bugs which cause the post count to drift from its real value over time. The current count is the accurate one.
I do recounts from time to time.
Did I face off with a bug here and is it for the first time?
There has been other similar bugs [to an extent] ;D
Nearly a week ago, one of my posts was deleted and I noticed the post count decrease but only received the deletion message 2 days later.
Nearly a week ago, one of my posts was deleted and I noticed the post count decrease but only received the deletion message 2 days later.
The problem I faced here was that I did not get a deletion message of those 2 'or 3' posts from the thread 'TOTHEMOON' which moved to the trash can. And then the post count.
@theymos, when are you going to do a recount? Is the interval between recounts more than a year each time?
