When I joined bitcointalk.org on March 3, 2018, there wasnt much I knew except joining the bounty campaign.

Trying to join 1-2 bounty campaign at that time is what I do without caring whether the bounty is legit or not. Without my knowledge I joined the bounty scam and nothing that I managed to get that far. Sad, but that is the truth.

Exactly a few months before I joined this forum, theymos had implemented an merit system in the forum. Although at that time I could still be promoted to become a junior member, but if I did not get 10 merit when the activities and posts were enough, I would not be promoted to the rank of member.

A few months later, new rules were re-applied. In order to be promoted to a junior member, I must get 1 merit. And at that time I was vacumm from activities because my rank had dropped back to newbi like before because there wasnt a 1 merit that I got even though my activities and posts had passed the member rank limit.

But I began to realize that, without efforts to improve my quality, expand knowledge that could be implemented in the post, I would never be promoted to the next rank.

Therefore, I decided to start concentrating and contributing mainly to the local board Indonesian by making constructive, informative and quality posts. My desire to improve quality has made me more diligent in reading and quite close to various rules.

It is time for me to be promoted to a junior member again after getting my first merit, so that my motivation and enthusiasm grow back to be better again and again. Nothing is impossible to achieve higher rankings when we can contribute to the forum, and I am again promoted to the ranking of members after successfully collecting 10 merit.

My journey still continues, precisely in May 2019 I was again successfully promoted to be a full member because 100 merit that I got through my contribution. And now I am on the way to senior member after so long trying, struggling, and continuing to improve quality so that at the moment I only need 12 more merit to reach my new rank (achieved). And now i am on the way to Hero Member and must collect 201 merit and activities accordingly.

I would like to thank everyone, especially dbshck and other merit sources who have helped me so far, motivated me, directed me in a better direction so I feel very confident to be promoted back to senior member in the near future.
Hopefully I can maintain quality and integrity until I reach 1000 merit and can be promoted to Legendary.

I want this story to trigger the motivation of other users who want to be promoted to the next rank so they can change, improve, and show their quality so they will also get the chance to move up to the next rank. I am very sure that nothing is impossible to achieve your goal ranking when you can contribute well in the forum.

Hello BITCOIN4X, I have seen you grow very well so far. Quite often see you on the local board with your good posts so I am also motivated to do good things for the good of myself and also this forum.

Getting out of your old habits and starting something new is your big achievement that deserves appreciation from anyone, including me.

You just need to be patient and keep trying to develop yourself and also your knowledge in the forum. I congratulate you on your achievements and success to reach the next rank. Senior members are in front of your eyes now, just need a little more merit and it will be yours, happy for you and what defense you have achieved so far.

Finally, I have seen the fact that everything is still possible to obtain. Now I have become a senior member less than 2 years since registering and thank you all for supporting me, have fun, buddy. It was quite fun when I reached it at the end of 2019. This is the best gift for me before the new year arrives.

I have checked your merit history, it speaks of your active work on this forum, this is really great. You have helped a lot of users (including me) on the forum. Thank you for your writing, it made me better understand the effective ways to receive merit.

The most thing I liked about your story is that you started with a small rank, and then you did not achieve many Merits, but rather you returned to a newbie after you almost became Member account ;D ;D ;D ;D.
Many members earn a lot of Merits in the first days of account creation, and after that, the gain decreases a lot.

The second thing is the possibility of rank up even if you only post on the local boards.

It depends upon which local boards. There are some big local boards, such as Russian, Turkish, Bahasa Indonesian, German.
Those boards account for 10% (Russian), 4.1% (Turkish), 3.6% (Bahasa Indonesian), 3.3% (German) of total merits distributed in the forum.

In most of local boards, your statement is right. Their percent fluctuate around 0 to 1 %.

Above all, the Meta board accounts for 14.5% of total merits in the forum.

When you want to improve your quality, then start from now or never.

Right, I started from a small rank and I really fell when I realized that I had returned to newbi when the new rules were applied by theymos "1 merit for rank-up to junior member". Sad, but it will be a sweet memory now because I have passed that time now.

Because of support, motivation, and desire to change, I am now a senior member. When someone realizes how this merit system works, there will be no burden for him to move up to the next rank.

There are no high quality posts that are missed by merit sources, they even ask people to report these posts to be able to distribute merit. Thank you for liking my story, hopefully can help others and be motivated to do better.

Anyway, It's so cool, bro. Not all members can change their mindset and find out the right way as you. Most of them gave up and quitted after following some bounties and got nothing. To be honest, I was ever in that situation. Even I ever think to quit because I assume no chance to rank up with new strict rules. Luckily, someone motivated me and showed me the right way. Then, I improved many things, changed my habit, and committed to dedicate my time to BTT forum.

It's almost the same as my journey in here. I registered earlier than you, I registered on january 21, 2018 and joining bounty campaigns that I don't know much. Unlike you, you did a good job and you deserve what you achieved. Well, i'm still on my journey to senior member rank.

In my opinion, now you have a good understanding of how this merit system works. You have received quite a number of meritfrom various sources in subsections.
There are three subsections that currently dominate your recived  merit:

• Beginners & Help your recived merit 75
• Local board Filiphina your recived merit 37
• Meta your recived merit 29

If you can increase your contribution to these three subsections, then I am sure you will reach the next rank faster. You just have to try harder, and never give up. When you stop, it will make you increasingly left behind.

I agree that those boards are good places to gain merits, especially local board. Most people will be easier to deliver opinions or ideas with their local languages. You also must have merit sources there, they will help every good poster like you. As far as I know, merit sources will distribute most of their sMerit on their board. Furthermore, some members usually prefer to focus on supporting* their local members than others. So, it is a true chance to gain potential merits there.

Although I know that meta is the highest distributed merit venue at the moment, the local board is the most important part for anyone who is not brave enough to give an opinion because that requires writing English. When a lot of writings and responses can not be understood by others, then most likely it will be a disaster for him. Therefore, the local board is recommended for those who do not good speak English enough.

I think almost all local parts now have a merit source, except local boards that are not active. So there is no reason for anyone not to get merit when they post well, are constructive and helpful.

I figure the lesser (in terms of number of posts) local boards may not really have a Merit Source, but many of them certainly do.

I find that earning merit on my local board (Spanish) is not currently difficult at all, due to the number of posters not being that large, and the regular presence of a merit source or two. On the other hand, the number of merits awarded per post is not large (I’m partly to blame there), so decent posters will get merited, but may take more time to rank-up in comparison to equivalently good posters on other boards.

First of all, I want to remind that it is better to set a reasonable target. I mean every member has different capabilities to reach their next rank. I don't want to underestimate you but I think don't expect too much for a new higher rank only in a month. You are better to focus on how you improve your knowledge and more active all year long.

1. I see you ever didn't log-in to forum a few months. In the next year, you are better more active. It will make you have a higher chance to rank up.

I often see how much new members complain because of merit system and claim it's unfair because other members don't reward their good quality posts, contribution to this forum etc.
But,  your and many other similar stories here prove that everybody have the same chance and opportunity here to achieve higher ranks in the forum based on the own effort and contribution to the forum.
It's important to read and learn in order to better understand btc topics.
After that,  use your knowledge and experience in order to help others.
It's simple like that.

My story is no less interesting, I joined this forum on January 1, 2018, until now. I also participated in a prize campaign with a rank newbie. Because losing competitiveness is the context of the campaign because of the small rank, so I left the prize campaign and switched to trading.
Being a beginner trader is indeed quite bitter because we are not able to predict market movements. I'm always fooled by the green chart.

Your wish will come true when you succeed in improving the quality of your posts. You have stopped doing activities for one year so you need a hard enough effort to balance your knowledge of the forum and everything in it that you missed a year ago.

You have to believe that, nothing is impossible when you have the potential to improve your quality to post, help people and of course you also have to consider local boards if you are not good enough to explore global forum.

Agree. He must be more active, but not only active, try to have more positive contributions. Here are some contributions that he can try to do:

- Create quality threads
- Help others with helpful information
- Report spam posts to moderators
- Report scammers, account farmers, or merit abusers
- Warn people about virus or malware cases
- Inform update information about forum issues or crypto issues to your local members
- Following discussions on Meta
- Etc

Are you a daily trader? Well, It is no problem if you spend more time on exchanges but you must improve your post quality as well and must have time to learn. Not only the insight into crypto, but we should also know more about forum information in detail.

Anyway, after I look around your post history, so far your posts were mostly on the altcoins section. You must know where the potential section to gain merits. Of course, nothing is impossible. You can rank up soon to Member rank. And continue to the next level (Full Member above). But surely it requires serious efforts, strong trust, and constant learning from various sources. Anyway, firstly, you are better to focus on your short-term target. It may be about more active, trying to make several good posts, improving your skill in constructing idea/opinion, and reaching member rank.

Thank you for the information, this is very useful information. I rarely go into sub-meta, there are too many legends, their discussion is very high quality and difficult for me to understand. I only attend to read, but rarely to respond, let alone make posts there.

Hello everyone, 2020 has arrived and the holidays are over and now it's time for me to return to the forum in the hope of greater success.

I am really lucky for 2019 because I managed to reach the rank of senior member where not everyone can achieve it and for 2020 I really hope to reach the hero by collecting 500 merit.

I will try to reach the next rank in the same way as 2019, and now I am on my way to hero ranking, only 170 merit remaining and I am very optimistic about getting it.

Sure. The next level (Hero) needs 500 merits, but it is no problem as long as you do continuous efforts + maintain your post quality.

If you want to make updates regularly, it is better for you to make it in a table form. Not only in reply space but it is better to have it on the OP (thread) above. So, you just need to update it on OP, then you inform people about what thing you have updated in reply space. However, it is only a suggestion.  ;)

Of course, it is already noted as your account progress history. So far you have reached Senior rank, and it seems you will be a Hero rank soon. But you mustn't stop to try reaching the next level, till getting a legend rank. Over the past 7 days I managed to get 18 additional merit. If this condition can be maintained or improved, I am sure that in February I will reach 500 merit.

This is a really good achievement by you and this is the result of your active/hard works. Just go ahead with your active work it will come soon really. there are 86 more merits need to reach the hero rank merits requirements but your activity is now 406. So if you would earn the rest of the merits in upcoming but you need to wait some days more to filled your activity requirements  :) :) Anyway good luck buddy. Hope it will come soon.

True, it will not be a problem when achievements are achieved faster than the activities required. Right now I will only continue to try my best and try new things that I can do to achieve that rank, but as long as I use the yobit signature, I think the amount of merit I get starts to slow down a bit. I know that some people may not want or forbid people to use the yobit signature, but as long as I use a signature I always maintain the quality of my writing.

I got negative feedback recently for promoting this signature, so I just want to know if the forum also prohibits yobit campaigns so that some people like to spy on participant accounts and send negative feedback ?
I will leave the campaign if this campaign is banned or they do not pay promotion participants.

That’s pretty controversial. Yobit does not seem to have a crystalline record by the looks of it on some of the threads I’ve read, and I personally do not like the campaign neither in its current form nor its prior form (and even less the shapeshipt from one to another), but the tagger is giving negatives left and right like candies to Yobit participants. By that rule of thumb, something like 80% (give or take) of signature bearers at some point since 2017 should be tagged for promoting ICOs that were either a fraud, exits scams, or tremendously crappy investments. If you are concerned about it, you could open a topic on Reputation (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=129.0), or tag along (no pun intended) in any of the already existing Yobit signature threads there.

Note: The tagger is not on DT, and therefore the trust figures in Untrusted Feedback, and does not display in the Trust counters. Nevertheless, were he to enter DT somehow, this sort of trust would display in a different position.

True, actions like this are quite controversial. I realize that only a small number of yobit participants received negative feedback from them. Strangely, I think he sent most of the feedback to good quality posters or those who struggle to make their accounts better than before.

Maybe, I will make a thread about this later if necessary. Because so far I have been paid as promised, and in this form I think there is no problem. But if the forum has made the rules then I will leave the campaign without being told to and will not break them.

Really, I dont like it when someone sends their negative feedback like giving out sweets to children they like. I hope this person is not included in the DT ranks in the future.

Over the past 7 days I managed to get 8 additional merit. The number of merit that I got this week is slightly down from the previous weeks. I will not worry because if I can maintain quality and improve my effort, then everything might be easier for me to achieve.

I’d say you’ll make it to your next rank when the activity requirement is met (meaning that the 500 Merit mark will be met then too), at least that is the impression I get by looking over your posts (structure, can’t follow the content for most) and stats (https://public.tableau.com/shared/9N5687ZN3?:display_count=y&:origin=viz_share_link).

Note: Seems like the minor issue you had has been reversed (at least "neutralized") …

That is right, I have to wait until my activity becomes 480 and the merit is 500. Because that is a requirement, at least I should try to achieve both of them in the same way as I have done so far.

You are one of the many users who have watched me all this time, and I am quite grateful for that. For small problems that previously seemed to have been resolved well, but so far it has kept neutral feedback.

I think not only for you and new members but also for all members who have the intention to reach the next level. It means you need to learn from various sources and know well the forum regulation, then you can have a good understanding of Bitcoin/Crypto/Blockchain/others and don't break the rules.  

In my view, someone is not a must to master all things but surely needs to know as much as possible. The point is to know what you can explore more and master faster than others. Then, focus on it, take experiments, and create threads to discuss it together. I am pretty sure people will appreciate your works. But before thinking that step, you can begin from reading more and trying to be active + post regularly. :)

Hi mate and the bitcoin community, today is March 3, 2020 and today I must tell you all that I am celebrating my second birthday at the biggest bitcoin discussion forum ever bitcointalk.org. I feel great happiness because this forum has changed my life for the better from my knowledge of bitcoin, experiences, interactions between fellow bitcoin communities and so on until I also get additional income such as from signature campaigns and trading.

I am one of thousands of users from Indonesia who joined this discussion forum after the merit system was implemented by Theymos and this I have explained in the OP [Self-Made Senior Member] From Newbie To Senior Member & Now OTW to Hero Member (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5211323.msg53398746#msg53398746). During the two years I was active in the forum there were actually many targets that had not been achieved in terms of knowledge and experience and other matters.
The following are some of the things that I have achieved over the past two years and I hope you don't compare them with other well-known users because my achievements are so far from them and it's almost impossible for me to be the same with them.

• Improve the quality of posts for the better and more useful and reduce the potential for deletion due to poor quality posts.
• Become a user who gets 447 merit from other users over the past 2 years.
• Send 208 sMerit to a number of users on posts that I think are appropriate.
• Has the most recognized achievements based on the BPIP website which is in position 705.
• Successfully rank-up to become a Junior, Member, Full Member, Sr Member and now on his way to becoming a Hero Member (Just waiting for 32 activities and 53 merit that have not been sufficient).
• etc

Honestly, from all that I have achieved above it might not be meaningful if there is no help from all of you and I hope and to try increase my contribution in this discussion forum and become a useful user for other users. People are missing the main point about knowledge and even after you achieved this rank you said 'Hopefully I can maintain quality and integrity until I reach 1000 merit and can be promoted to Legendary.' tell me what will happen when you turn legendary? you are already evolving day after day so rationally thinking your goal should be thinking about new ways, perspectives, source... to acquiring more useful knowledge that will be beneficial to you and others. you subconsciously selected a materialistic goal which is having more merit and as a result, having more knowledge, so the main goal will be getting merit and as a result, one will acquire knowledge, and the system made you, and many others turn the thing upside down. No, acquiring knowledge was never like this, even now peoples are choosing their orientation based on the job they can have after graduation. we are becoming more and more materialistic. It's true this merit system has many positive things but let's say it didn't exist many peoples wouldn't be here and we can also argue that without it we wouldn't achieve certain degree of knowledge so it can be a two-edged sword, one should not put too much focus about merit to not get caught in materialism because knowledge achieved through a materialistic view cannot exist without the presence of a reward.

After the merit system is implemented, every user who wants to achieve a higher ranking must strive to improve the quality of posts to be constructive, informative and quality. Because theymos implement this merit system aims to encourage users to make quality posts so as to minimize spam in the forum. and if someone is able to make a post as intended then that user deserves a service to move up to the next rank. One must be proud of what he has achieved and not have to be arrogant when he succeeded in doing it and if one day I managed to get 1000 merit and become a Legendary then I am still the same user but with some success achieved.

I will not say that what you say is a mistake because there is no need for all of us here to have the same perception and in this case I choose my own way to improve the quality of posts, post something useful, and I have to learn a lot because of knowledge will only increase through learning and experience.

I must say that the knowledge and experience we gained will affect the quality of the writing we make, therefore learning something that aims to improve quality does not seem wrong. When our knowledge and experience can be implemented in every post that we make, I believe merit will come naturally.

Hi friends, mate, or whoever you are. I am a user born after the merit system has been implemented. So if I want to be a higher ranking user then I have to try to give positive things ranging from improving the quality of posts, doing something useful and most importantly I have to try not to allow myself and my habits to make posts categorized as spam.

So far I have managed to get 453 merit and I will soon be promoted to a member of a hero if this number becomes 500 and my activity becomes 480 or more in the next 20 days and must say that this achievement is something great for me and certainly not all people want to do the same thing and you will also know that there are hundreds or even thousands of my local users who have remained in the same rank since the merit system was implemented and a small number of them have to complain about this system.

So I think you should tell me why you consider my habits to look like someone who has a materialistic goal (without me noticing).

This is a really good achievement by you and this is the result of your hard works. Just go ahead with your active work it will come soon really.

This is a journey, I am very sure that if we want to try and provide the best for everyone then we will have the opportunity to be promoted to the next rank with the merit we receive.

Today is exactly where I have to announce to all of you that I have collected 500+ merit as one of the conditions to become a hero member but I have to wait until tomorrow because the number of activities is not enough Reached.

Really this is an amazing journey I have taken since I decided to contribute to forums and users by improving the quality of posts and other useful things. This achievement is a journey that requires a long process, day, month and even more than two years since I joined the forum. Improving the quality of posts is an effort that I must make to reach this point and maintain consistency is a suggestion that I must do.

On this occasion I would like to thank all members of the forum who have made many contributions to my achievements, especially those on the local Indonesian board. I know that without you, I would never reach this point. I hope this doesn't count as a celebration of what I've accomplished during my travel on the forum. This is my first 1000 post since I registered an account. I know this isn't something to celebrate, but for me it's a great start to keep going and growing.

So far I am one of the many users from the local who have been successfully promoted to hero member some time ago because they reached the 500 merit and are now trying to keep fighting toward Legendary member. I know that I still have a lot to achieve and develop in the future and one of them is my interest in bitcoin because bitcoin is the reason why I am here. This is a challenge that I have to solve well although I have to do it consistently and gradually.

1000 post, 540 merit is a sign that I can do much better in the future. I have a long way to go and I will not give up on getting there. I really hope that I can always help anyone with the positive contribution I have to the forum and its user. As long as it's good, I'll do it. Thank you community, you have taught me many valuable lesson to this day.

I'm happy to be with you all on the bitcointalk.org forum from march 2018 to now and whenever. Now we are at the end of 2021 which will enter 2022 which is only 2 days from now, meaning I will be 4 years old in March 2022 and that is good for me.

Today I just want to say that I haven't completely failed to reach Legendary rank in 4 years as I still have at least a few months before March 18, 2022 to get this amount of lost merit. I've managed to get 861 merit from 2018 to the end of 2021, so I only need to get another 139 merit to reach Legendary because my activity count has already been reached.

Of course I thank everyone who has supported me all this time, I am so grateful to have you all here. This is the strongest community I have come across in my online life. Here are some forum stats I have from 2018 till now. Glad to share my experience and knowledge with you. Happy new year to you all (soon).

True, my activity count is more than enough for a Legendary but I only need 134 more merit to reach it. Don't know how easy or hard it will be for me to get the current merit until Legendary is reached because I just want to enjoy every bit of it.

So far, your journey on the forum has been pretty good. Precisely on April 7, 2020 you have reached the rank of Hero Member. Being able to be promoted to a higher rank is a good achievement. To reach Legendary rank it takes another 500 merits "of calculated from Hero rank". Now that you are almost there it takes another 59 minutes to enjoy the highest rank.

Efforts to improve the quality of posts and expand knowledge in forums are clear evidence that you can enjoy every rank you achieve "promote to the next rank" even though it's a bit late.

I believe, it's never too late to reach a new rank, as long as you want to try sooner or later you will reap the results of the efforts you pioneered.
Bonus merit from few threads that you make will be a beautiful journey that is hard to forget. I hope this thread can be seen by other users whose rankings are still low, so that it can trigger their enthusiasm to make constructive, informative and quality posts so that they will also get a chance to move up to the next rank.

Thanks for all the compliments and best wishes, you both have the same opportunity as me and I'm sure you will too soon. I also found you guys on the road, I support it. I realized that after a Legendary is achieved, then merit is just a statistic in numbers, it doesn't affect much unless we are a source of merit or people who want to contribute to the community. I believe merit is one of the systems that has succeeded in increasing the quality of discussion from many users despite the fact that there are still quite a lot of users who don't care what the goal is.

Honestly I am very grateful to all the users who have supported me so far with motivation, direction, constructive advice, merit and many other things. All of which lead me to believe that there are no barriers whatsoever to ranking when we are willing and able to do our best by studying. In the end I was almost able to prove to everyone that the merit system never prevented me from achieving the highest rank in this forum. Soon, I'll get the 57 merit again to qualify as a Legendary. I'm not going to preach about it, but I have to admit that it's been great proving in 4 years.

Merit is needed to rank up. The merit system has eliminated spammers and useless posts. Giving merit to productive members is not an obligation, but merit can provide motivation for members who want to try to improve the quality of the post to be better than before.

The merit system was set as the new ranking requirement, so any low-ranking users still needed merit to earn their rank. The merit system also doesn't completely eliminate spammers and low-quality posts as there are thousands of users today who still don't care about the quality of their posts and never get merit, but the 100% merit system manages to prevent spammers and low-quality posters from getting higher rank.

I just want to tell you all that I managed to reach this Legendary rank in 3 years, 10 months, and 9 days. This is my great achievement while being active on the forum since March 3, 2018. I have proven that I can also rank up to Legendary to everyone who ever doubted and ignored me. Even though it took longer to reach it compared to other contributors, but I'm happy because in the end I enjoyed each ladder with pride.

There's not much I can say right now, but I just want to thank everyone who has helped me so far. Without your help, I don't think this Legendary can be achieved in 1411 days. I can't do it for you one by one, but your every merit, support and motivation means a lot to me. Specially The Pharmacist, all other merit source and all of you which gives me merit, you are really special to this day and I think I should do the same to others in need.
