I am holding BTC from long time ago. And this time BTC going up can I sell now with this price? Or I can wait for more days?

You can decide whenever you want to sell because you've been holding it for a long time so it's your choice whether to sell or not. It's also your verdict to wait a little further to see if the price will increase the current we have.

As for perfect time of selling, as long as it's more than the price you've bought and you're in profit, you're in good.

Taking financial advise from complete strangers is not a wise thing, in my opinion. Make your own research instead. I would start by studying chart patterns.

No one could say when is the best time to sell your holdings, and it would depend on a couple of things.

• You need the money and need to liquidate as much as possible
• Depends on your technical analysis, when there is trend reversal
• There is profit already with your initial trade
• You want fiat

There could be a lot more reason but I think I listed already the common thing with regards to the selling your BTC.

that is your bitcoin, you have to determine a good selling price and needed by you, if you don't really need cash or fiat at this time, you can hold it until next year, I think next year the price can be more than this, but you must bear the risk yourself

Perfect time is always when you are in the profit side. Every time you profit thats the right time to sell. Dont be too greedy waiting for huge multipliers you'll just lose money. Dont ever fall for people saying hold and hold just sell and re roll your money to make more profits.

LOL, I'm sure no one here can decide for you. Of course  the rule of thumb is that if you are already in a profit then you can sell them. But the thing is that the price can go either direction and  it's really difficult to give someone financial advises here. It's really up to you to decide, take everything into consideration, profit wise.

just a suggestion.. sell your Bitcoin when you make a profit, don't sell your Bitcoin when prices go down, HODL as long as possible until it really makes a profit.  I have already HODL Bitcoin for more than 1 year, if I sell it now then I will be very disadvantaged.

It depends on your investment strategy and investment risk profile. if long term and medium to high risk then hold and use dollar cost averaging to increase. If short term, low risk then why would you invest in crypto? sell now and choose cash or bonds. Investment for the future is all about knowing what you want to accomplish and choosing the appropriate financial vehicle to achieve it. I'm 34 and crypto is only a small part of the vehicles I've chosen. However I'm also looking long term maybe 5-10 years or more in investment terms, and have a high risk investment profile. Crypto fits nicely and I won't be selling any time soon.

No one can decide for you because your decision must depend on your target goal. Upon investing, you should set a target goal and sell your Bitcoins when you have reached it. Of course, applying the basics which is to buy low and to sell high would help you earn a good profit.

As you can see the price is increasing at some decent rate today, the more it goes up the more of the amount you can get after buying from less than $7k last week. you can sell it now or wait for a few days if you want quick bucks. however, the best thing to do is hold them for long until the Bitcoin halving comes, where most of the investors will buy some bitcoins at a highest price.

I don't know when it's a good time to sell BTC because each buyer is at a different price and has different goals. So depending on the price you bought and set a target that suits it. Hold until you make a profit, never lose patience with this market

If I were you, I would sell part of it at the current price to enjoy profit. And partly I would sell it after the halving event,
even if after halving the price goes down. Not a problem I can buy again with capital from the sale of bitcoin today.

My suggestion is to wait for more days so that you will be able to see what would be the price of bitcoin on the upcoming days. Bitcoin right now aren't stable and pumping little by little so we can see what would happen to the price of bitcoin. This is only my suggestion and opinion if you will sell your bitcoin right now or wait until the year ends to see what can be the result of the final price of bitcoin this year 2019.
If you really want to sell your bitcoin right now then probably you will be able to earn some profit but not too much because as we can see although bitcoin is pumping, it is still so low compared to other months which bitcoin is around $8,000.

The price of bitcoin always fluctuates so expect that in a few seconds the price will gonna move upward or downward. When the trail stop, there are a lot of strategies that we can do if we want to sell our bitcoin. My strategy is to sell when the trail the bitcoin stop. There are raders who preferable percentage profit, for example they have tsrget price of 10%. If the price of bitcoin goes up with 10% then they will sell their bitcoin. The trailing stop that I using is suitable for me and I always maximizing the profit.

Your question is impossible to answer as it very much depends on personal circumstances.   The really simple answer is there is no good time to sell if you dont actually need to, so long as Bitcoin is viable product then its very likely to continue to gain in the long term.   Decide when to sell when you no longer believe BTC is viable as an alternative to FIAT and there is your answer, otherwise its a brand new product, sector that never existed before and you are lucky soul who was around to see it all begin. 
   I will always argue people should be diverse in assets they hold, hence why we dont know for sure the correct answer for you.

as others have said in this thread, it's "up to you".  but it would be nice if you feel enough of a profit then sell it.  and if you still lose hold it until you really get into profit.  the most important thing when you have benefited from the results of your purchase is not greedy, because sometimes greed damages the trading plan.  usually what a professional trader does is consistent daily profits.  different from the investor he will buy and will hold it until he really makes a profit not thinking about the daily even he can hold it for years.  so here you specify you want to become a trader what investors.

It purely depends on your situation as this is not the best time to sell bitcoin as we are awaiting for a bull run in order to do that but if it's emergency then you can sell it, or else set an auto trade to sell off if the value falls and set a buy trade as well if the value pumps back. Example if the value is 10 then set sell value for 9.90 and set buy back at 10.1 as you will be safe in terms of pump or dump.

You can clearly say that they can choose the right time to make the money means they should choose the right investment option based on coins growth and fluctuations.

i guess it comes down to this: if you sell, are you actually gonna buy back lower? most people will end up buying back higher than they sold.

Tried to look at what is best for you. If you are already in profiting, why not? But if you are still losing, I don't think you need to sell your coins( unless you need the money). The decision will always come from yours, we differ in buying price at the start then, it doesn't mean that we do selling at the same time.

Extrapolating Bitcoin's trend into the future suggests it would be prudent to hold your BTC as long as possible. I know that's not a very precise answer but I believe it's the most correct one.

I have a friend who said, "When you start seeing $20K as the bottom and not the top, it'll start making sense." Think about it. $32 was a historic long term top, but after passing that level in 2013 we never went below it again. Same with $1163 after passing it in 2017. Each successive adoption cycle is marking price up into a new trading range, and never returning below.

To me, the only way to approach this situation is to never sell all your BTC. There's a good chance you won't ever get it back.

in my opinion, it depends on the price when you buy bitcoin compared to the current price, whether you have made a profit or not, if it is then it is not a problem to sell but if not then it is better to keep holding and waiting for the right moment

I wanna know when did you specifically start to hold your btc? Did you by any chance passed by December 2017, and didn't even mind to sell some? Because that was a very perfect time to sell if you are wondering but as of today just hold. Well, we don't know yet when the market will soar but one thing is for sure right now is that halving would come, and it will surely make the price more decent.

if you are sure to get quite a lot of profit I think it's okay to sell bitcoin now and then take the profit. because bitcoin is very volatile tomorrow or in a week it will decrease. so you lose your profits. the important thing in investing crypto besides speculation is emotional control not to be greedy. sometimes people keep hoping the value of a coin will continue to rise and delay selling but in reality the coin does not increase. so if you already feel profitable, selling is the right decision.

I hope you already sold your bitcoin in 2017 because, in that year, your profit will be bigger than now. But if you cannot sell in that year, you will have another chance to sell your bitcoin in the next bull run that will come in the next year. Frankly speaking, the best time to sell is when the market is in the peak of it's price and if you are wondering when is the peak price of bitcoin. It occurred last 2017-Jan 2018 and if you are only holding for less than a year and you call it a long time ago already then you still have plenty of experience to gain in order to become a good investor.

edit: I suppose out of all the information and fors/ againsts I had digested over the years, the thing that stuck by me the most, was not the currency abilities of BTC, but its network effect/ longest chain and thus store of value feature that would be a natural outcome.

I have planning what is the perfect time for selling bitcoin, next year we will got best moment with bitcoin halving and prepare your investing with bitcoin until two weeks later for bitcoin halving you have sell your bitcoin, I think two weeks before bitcoin halving moment price of bitcoin can raise up with higher and you get much profit because I predict can up more than 70%.

As halving can help for the price to increase, but we should note the time we invested. Those who invested before the price dump  after ATH might still not reach the amount of BTC by next year. We must decide now whether to trade it or stop loss already by next year before halving happens. I'm thinking of what to do too.

@Rebelbd even though I am not aware when you have purchased your coins, I yet would advise you to hold onto your coins unless you need to sell them for sudden emergencies. In my opinion bitcoin prices should rally upwards before the halving event takes place, hence you should consider holding your coins till then.

Perfect time to sell your coins is up to you, but it should always be a time when you have made profit, although it doesn’t work out that way for some people. I can remember there was a time I never had enough money to invest in Bitcoin and when I invest the price would go down at a time when I’m in need of using that money.

I would have no other option than to sell my coins and use the money to solve my problems. That almost made me stop investing in Bitcoin. I got pissed because I was not benefiting from it, the price was always going down at a time when I needed the money and that’s how I will always end up with loss. It was like that most times until things changed and I was able to Hodl for a long time.

Honestly, there is no X price to sell bitcoin that makes sense to every human on earth, that is not possible because we are all different people with different needs and wants and wishes so the price to sell bitcoin for all of us changes. I personally want to have a million dollars, I don't care what the price of bitcoin is but if my bitcoin worth ever comes close to that I will definitely sell, this doesn't work out for everyone for example.

It's impossible to consistently sell near the top and buy near the bottom. Most experienced position traders will tell you to DCA (dollar cost average) your entries/exits in "ranges" rather than trying to pinpoint the perfect time to buy/sell. Entering or exiting all at once usually leads to significant drawdowns and missed opportunities.

In my opinion, the $6,000s and $7,000s are a buying opportunity. I believe we will reach new ATHs next year or 2021 at the latest. We can't know where the next bull market top will be; it could be $30K or $300K. All we can really do is sell into irrational bubble behavior and wait for the price to crash.

I found the best way of getting more Bitcoin without regrets is getting rid of an addiction or some unhealthy habit and dedicating the money to buying BTC every month. Just spend some of that money you'd otherwise spend on booze or hookers on BTC and you won't regret it. Trying to fish for tops and bottoms is gambling, nothing else.

I also believe that we're going up in the long run and another bull market when we break 20k won't be 25k or 30k. It's going to be 50k+ I've been watching this market for a long time and we both are probably wrong with that 50k prediction and it will sell some at that level but the price will to to 100k. I did that when we were going to 20k. Took some profit at 7k because I thought the price was  already crazy, over 7x the previous ATH, but it did not stop. That's how powerful BTC bull runs are.

Depending on your choice? Because it happens to me last time when I really need the money and I have no choice but to sacrifice and sell it even I could lose some bucks. Uhm, December 2017? JK, you can't know when you can sell for maximum profit. So, the best time for selling is when you're satisfied with the profit. If you feel this price is fair, then sell now. People keep on asking this question. When you are making decision about selling, you shouldn't rely on others because like your speculation, theirs is also not accurate. As long as you need money, you can sell at any price. If you're a trader, that can be learned when is the right time for selling. there is no best time to sell bitcoin. it all depends on which price you bought bitcoin. those who bought bitcoin ew days back when it was at 6800$ best time was to get rid of when went up to 7500$. best time for those who bought at bitcoin ATH is yet to come. thats the best we can say about selling about bitcoin.

I think selling your BTC now is not a good idea the fact that Bitcoin's value is not that high compared before, better if you will wait for more. Halving that will happen next year could possibly do some changes on it so better if you will wait. If none then you can sell your btc if you already gain profit, we cant tell how btc will progress for the coming days because it can turns up further or decline. But others prefer to wait after the halving because it might be an indication of another bull run to come.

Selling Bitcoin Doesn't rely on price ups and downs, it depends on you. When you need money then sell it, otherwise if you want to hodl it, hodl it for a long time. Depends on your target price and your enter price. If you're already on a gain now, and doesn't want any more risk, then selling is what might be the best for you. Although you could get higher rewards if you hold, the risks are also higher. There's no perfect time, as the market is unpredictable. It always depends on your intuition of the market's sentiment to the next months/years.

The perfect time to sell ones BTC is the time a trader or investor is comfortable with the profit he made through his holding or investment but it good to sell when it bull run market i.e when bitcoin halving effect take over all the crypto market.

there is no exact time specification for selling your BTC. it's only you who decides. if I suggest is you can sell your bitcoin when it has benefited. and buy again when prices fall. but if you choose to hold it longer. I target you can sell it when the price is at the peak. (maybe $ 40k- $ 100k)

I always make targets when I will sell my bitcoin and I always target that I will sell my bitcoin when bitcoin can go up as much as 40% of my purchase price. if you already feel you are making a profit then selling bitcoin now is the right decision. if you have not reached the target then you should still hold it. because in my opinion right now most bitcoin holders choose to hold their bitcoins and wait for bitcoin to pump after being reduced by half in May 2020.

I guess we will sell the bitcoin at any price in the market, especially when we need money. But although we sell bitcoin when we need money, we still trying to hold the other bitcoin because we want to sell the bitcoin when the price increase so high. If you're going to sell at $16k, you need to be patient for a while, and maybe you need to wait until the next year to see bitcoin will hit that price. This day, the bitcoin price finally increases, and we see that the price reaches $7307, so we can hope that in the next week, there is something change in the bitcoin market.

You can sell it anytime, when you realized your profit, or when you want funds right away, but if you are looking for profit to sell your Bitcoin, I don't think this is the right and best time to sell, you can delay it if you have read all the news right now, experts are predicting  for a better price in the second quarter if you don't need funds, delay it for a few months. 

If you are holding your btc for very long time, then, why are you now deciding to sell your holdings? But on my end, as long as you are already in profit from the original price of what you bought, that's fine already. It is you who can finally decide when to sell your btc -depending on your needs and priorities.

For me as a long term holder, the best time to sell is at the peak if a price bubble. Of course it’s hard to time the peak so something at 75% or more if the peak would be acceptable to me for selling.

Set a price at which you will sell 10% and then every time price doubles that price sell 10% more. This way you always have Bitcoins so you never miss out if Bitcoin will be worth millions. But you also get some money out to spend for whatever you want. Maybe buying back  when bitcoin will be worth millions :P

So if you are greedy, you might miss the best opportunity to sell.

Most importantly, we just sell our Bitcoin with profit, not just by simply losing it. This will sometimes happen in common for panic sellers, they'll never look into the price they could lose but they just thinking of saving their assets. How was bad but that's their decision, saving their ass is not their focus...they just want to sell as they want to.

No one knows for sure whether the price of bitcoin will go up or down, so I can't give any answers to your questions. but I will give advice to you to hold the bitcoin that you have at the moment, I'm sure if next year the price of bitcoin will increase slightly from this year. the decision is yours  :)

If you are thinking like that then you will see a time when the bitcoin market is stable, the market is volatile from the start and booking the profit depends upon the profit you have as target and considering the halving in sight no one will sell the coins now rather would hold for a year to reap the maximum benefit.

I presume that you are already in profit now, so why not wait for days, you might loss that chance to sell and be smart and not be greedy.

I do not think that there is anything about greediness, yes it is true that he is now in the profit but think about that if he has hold his bitcoin uptill now in bad as well as in good situation of market, then there is no hurry to sell it now, I will suggest that he must wait until for the halving because everyone here is very hopeful for the good price after halving, so being patient is a good decision.

i have a wallet. i call it "wishes". i write my wishes. for ex. holiday, buying a new phone, electronic devices (like ps5, nintendo switch etc). when i got my salary, i m buying some BTC. and calculating cost of my wishes need. if i reach to do that, im selling. thats my perfect time to sell.

^^ Spending is one thing but while still working its reasonable to only sell Bitcoin when you consider you have a better asset class to hold.  I think its reasonable to sell out of BTC if you think its price has accumulated a good amount over your time period of holding and you need to pay off some of your house mortgage for example.   In that way you are not spending anything but reducing your outgoings which in turns over a longer time period will result in more available cash to spend.
   Thats really the best way to retain wealth, clear the debts first and reduce outgoing costs where possible so you left just with discretionary spending i.e. fun stuff.

I think the right time to sell bitcoin in your wallet is after halving. it's still about 5 months away, but I think it's close. There is really nothing to be gained by dumping right now. The downside risk is very low in my opinion since the $7k support has been tested 2-3 times now, and it has held up decently well each time that it has been tested.

While the upside is high, since you've seen how BTC can rally extremely quickly when markets get reason for optimism with its ascension to $14k earlier this year. Obviously, that was unsustainable, but you do get the point.

If we are going to base on the previous halving, it takes four months before we can finally see some semblance of a rally. But I wouldn't immediately jump and sell everything after halving, because if we're going to see similar pattern as the previous one, it will takes more than a year to get to a new all time high.

So we need to be smarter now, we just don't dump because the price is good, we need to wait till the price is ripe for the taking. It might take years, so it's better to hold, you're not losing any if you will simply hold your bitcoin in your wallet.

You are right! Each people do have reference on when they do consider a perfect time because if we do talk about profits then each person do have their own target or goal.
Some wont really be that contented on long term profits yet it would really be just small compared if you do actively trade with it.If you do hold up for how many years excluding that 2017 bull run
then you are still in profits but if you do able to buy on peak or ATH then you know on what kind of situation are you in for now. lol

It depends on you mate, if you think it is profitable to sell your bitcoins now then why not, it just depend on what your goal is. The best time to sell bitcoin is when the price is it’s highest but with today’s situation it seems that the next AHT may think some time yet to happen so you might need to hold for a little longer but if you already see that you still can get profits now despite the current price then might as well take the opportunity while it last because we don’t know what is going to happen next.

Depends on when you bought, personally, I'd advise against selling BTC at any price without having to recoup your initial investment. However, it's also important to have an investment strategy before coming into crypto (hence it's a crucial beam in the DYOR maxim).

Lol, whenever you feel you have made enough profits upon  your principal amount but i would advice that no matter what never sell all your BTC holding because you never know when the bull run of bitcoin will set in. So my plan is always to have $500 worth of BTC stored in my wallet, i don't mind losing this money hence i choose to keep it despite all the fluctuations. I agree with this when you say the perfect time to sell at least you will know that your profit was there and then sell for it as you want. No one probably sells their bitcoin at a lowest price from the time they bought it. But if I were you, dont sell your bitcoin as long as you don't need, sounds like greed but let us talk about reality. Just wait until it will be doubled or triple the price.

I'm struggling with the same ... my brain says, initial investment plus 25% is already stretching it (since I started DCA'ing last summer, I am not at break even point yet), but of course there's the little voice that says "what if it would rise much more?".

may i know when you buy it? if you buy 5years ago, you can sell it now, but if you buy after last halving, better you waiting the bitcoin halving this year, and sell it in december 2020. i think the price of bitcoin will be rising after haling event.

I will advice you with general things. If you are going to do short-term or mid-term trading, you may look at the technical analysis or the chart itself. You can do it like weekly chart or monthly chart to get a safe Investment as Bitcoin isn't always moving significantly at the moment. In other side, if you are going to do a long-term trading, you may look the 4 years chart as you may know one year after halving is always a good time to sell your Bitcoin or making money through ping-pong game. For now, I would recommend to do long-term trading and watch the price closely after the halving but it is all your decision. Last but not least, don't be greedy! Sometimes small profit is better than putting too much risk for doubtful big profit.

You can follow them as you want but you should also have your game plan and don't depend to them most of the time. If it's just for selling, it can be done at anytime as you wish but the timing and profitability depends on you.

And it is because of this reason I do not like to base my decisions on my feelings, as traders we are always going to want to make more money if we did not had that desire then we will not be interested in investing in any market.

And this still leaves the question open, how to know when to sell and for the most part I let the market tell me what to do, if it begins to go down there is no point for my to keep holding a position that is already profitable and I will sell my coins.

Here's some possible answers.

1. The best time to sell is never. Many of us are not traders and we do not buy BTC, but earn it. Some of us would prefer to spend it then sell it.
2. Sell it when you are at a life-changing profit. For one of you it will be a profit allowing you to buy a dream car, for another  to start a company, for someone else to start a business.
3. Sell it when you are certain there will be no regrets. If you feel like another 10% might be important for your financial future, don't sell it.
4. As long as you have fiat money and nothing to spend it on don't sell. Don't go all fiat just because you're scared, or because you feel like fiat is better, that's dumb. Go fiat when you have something to spend it on.

I think its when the value start rising again and the best target price to sell at $10,000 and we need to make sure that we'll not be left behind of bullrun. That's one we need to always have a target price and stop-loss in case the price plummet suddenly.

And i think the value of Bitcoin will surely rise until the day of halving.

There is no perfect time to sell any asset and that is the reality, it all depends upon individual cases when you invest and the target you have in mind, which mean for anyone to invest in any asset you need to have a target and if you have that basic understanding corresponding to the market you will not be having this doubt  .

You can sell bitcoin "if" you gain a good return but if still lose then continue to hold your bitcoin yoir question is depend on the case pf the person who own bitcoin. In my case since I buy bitcoin at $7k now I gain a good return but I stil holding bitcoin and waiting for the 2020 halving.

The perfect time is when you have to and have the genius to know BTC pricing will be in a negative trend.   I really have doubts to come to that conclusion right now, I previously thought we could drift sideways neutral to negative in effect as many will sell a do nothing market but at least short to medium term pricing seems to be more positive so far in 2020.

On this break above 50 day average, I've noticed a higher rate of volume.  Its purely just one look at an indicator of some strength to the price but it seems to be one less reason to be negative on the pricing even while we can pull back, often a pull back can be a kind of positive for gains to come after that.   This seems to be an increasingly positive meta however I need the long term to also come round and so till then I do believe we remain in a cycle and selling is possible just as much as buying after gloom and falling prices is.

So we've broken away from the 50DMA but also some negative trends from July from my view.   I would guess for a range currently upto 200 day average and possibly 8000 to 8500 needs confirm as a base for future gains to be stably occuring.  
Blue line on the price chart is a roughly week average price, lowest blue line is OBV trying to gauge strength of the move and as I said gradient is quite aggressive reflecting volume.

Wait to sell until after the halving.  That's when the price will probably start to make a decent increase.  Hold on as long as you can after that to make the most profit.

That would be an ideal thing to do but in reality it's hard to see those up if we see some certain dumps gonna happen even though the halving will occur but if your patience is long then maybe it will be a perfect fit but try to extend your creativity to earn more and accumulate more volume and profit.

Most wise investors chooses to accumulate while the value suffered from dumped and sell it up when seen good opportunities then buy it back
and continue the process. Though really tough to predict and anticipate but experienced dictates with some experiment with your strategy then

sell now it's okay if you already get a profit, the price when you buy is very low and now it's 10x from when you buy. if not, try waiting until the halving bitcoin is finished later and see if the price of bitcoin will be the same as the predictions expected by everyone here.
if there really is an urgent need, selling your bitcoin right now is not a problem in my opinion. so whenever you sell it is the right time because you have made a decision.

What price did you buy Bitcoin? And until now you have made a profit from buying bitcoin, the price has reached $ 8700 and is still increasing.  I personally prefer the special days of bitcoin to do something like this. I mean I don't like to sell at any time and I keep my coins safe as much as I can but if I really "have to" sell I would rather do it on special occasions. Usually bitcoin doesn't care about those occasions and prices doesn't change too much but people get hyped about it so much that they buy it beforehand increasing the price and I hold it until the date and sell it right at that date before everyone realizes nothing major happens and they give up. Just to give an example I will probably hold all my coins until halving and at the day halving will happen I will sell my coins and wait for people to realize price is not skyrocketing and than sell and drop the price in which case I will buy back more bitcoins.

If you're holding bitcoin for long term you might specify for how long I should hold my Bitcoin, is it for 5 years, 10 years or so. But if you're holding Bitcoin for short term you should sell them once the price is going up, yeah buy low and sell high. I personally hold Bitcoin as a long term investment, even if the price is going up I don't sell my coins because I have specified the period for holding Bitcoin. when the time comes and the price is skyrocket I will sell those coins.

It maybe we are different, I consider myself as a short term holder and just like what you've said...I sell my Bitcoins when seeing profits on it and buy back again. That was what I usually do and also I feel that it helps me to generate more gain rather than to be a long-term holder. It is subjective, all of traders have different strategies in terms of selling. I oftern using trailing stop and target profit. What is trailing stop, it is the time where the upward movement is finally over and I will cut my position. Target profit is about I setting up a potential rewards which is most likely between 10%-20%. It depends on you when is the best time to sell bitcoin. For me, I think you should hold your bitcoin for now because, halving is coming and it might affect the price of bitcoin as per its supply would decrease and when it happens demand would in return will increase causing a possible pump. But, it is not bad to have other investments other than bitcoin to diversify your investments in case the plan goes sideways.
