Title: My journey in 2019 - 2020 (Nothing is impossible)
Post by: Rengga Jati on January 04, 2020, 10:30:41 AM
After around 2 years got no earned merits, finally I earned the first one on December 01, 2019. It became a new stage for my account improvement. Since that day, I can gain several merits in the following days. Thanks to Mr. abhiseshakana as the first merit sender for me. Well, December 2019 is really my lucky month. I never imagined that I can earn 45 Merits during that month.

Today, I have earned 250+ Merits and I am already a Senior Member. Thank you so much for Mr. dbshck as the biggest contributor to my achievement so far. Also to others that always support and appreciate my efforts. I'm lucky to have you all.

From this short story, I want to tell newbies and Junior that getting merits is not impossible. I don't know anyone, but apparently I can still collect merits. This means as long as you want to try serious efforts, people will appreciate your works. Of course, not just any trying, but there are some things that we must be fulfilled. I realize several things.

Thread/topic
  • Create a useful/helpful thread or topic.
  • Its content should be informative, easy to understand, and clearly enough
  • The sentences have a correct grammatical function and written in proper punctuation.
  • The paragraphs are made in the right order, from opening to closing.
  • The topic is delivered in a simple or straightforward manner. Don't make it complicated.
  • Unique. It mustn't a copy-paste/plagiarism work.

Reply
  • It should be on topic.
  • The sentences have a correct grammatical function and written in proper punctuation.
  • The idea/opinion must be reasonable, unique, and factual.
  • The idea/opinion has value or something informative.
  • It must be better presenting data or enclosing information sources.

Besides making threads or replies, we can do other things:
  • Help others. When people asking about information related to forum, exchanges, wallet, or etc
  • Report spammers, merit abusers, or bounty cheaters

*The list above is created based on my own opinion. If you have others, you can add it to your lists.

Back to the progress of my account, I really hope it can reach the Full member at the beginning this year. So, I'm trying my best to make more good posts. I am sure sooner or later my account will move on to the next level. And I will still do efforts to go to higher levels. I trust I can, and nothing is impossible to reach.

Finally, I want to invite all newbies/Juniors to stop complaining about the merit system and better start trying to improve your post quality. As many people have proven it, I believe we can do it as well. The point is keeping the best efforts, both making good posts and help others. Good luck for us!!

Sometimes,it will take time for our efforts to be recognized by forum members but for sure it will, keep the good work in the future as well and make the forum better place for anyone to get knowledge related to cryptos.

  • The sentences have a correct grammatical function and written in proper punctuation.
  • The paragraphs are made in the right order, from opening to closing.
Punctuations, proper paragraphing, grammar, lexical proficiency etc are all of additional benefits to a user, it definitely makes whatever you write appealing to readers and makes it easily understandable and appreciated.
But even if you do not have an impeccable command of the English language, it's never a barrier or a hinderance, as long as you can write out what anyone with even a primary school education can understand, then you can operate on the forum without any barrier whatsoever.

I have given you quite a few merits if think, and I'm sure you'll earn more from me as long as you continue doing good on the forum as you have been doing for weeks now.

Thank you, buddy. You are also great, it seems to reach Hero rank soon this year. Good luck for us!

Yes, it's true. They will. Just focus on improving contribution and our dedication, they must appreciate who take serious efforts.

Indeed. As long as what you wrote is understandable and readable, don't worry to continue posting. But if you can write with a correct grammatical function and use proper punctuation, then it surely will better.

I have given you quite a few merits if think, and I'm sure you'll earn more from me as long as you continue doing good on the forum as you have been doing for weeks now.
Thank you so much, buddy. Your support is absolutely very needed. I am very grateful for your appreciation.  :)

I just want to point this out. The replies/posts doesn't really need to be grammatically and punctually correct at all. A lot of people here on Bitcointalk understands that people here are from very diverse countries hence having different levels of fluencies of the English language, hence having not-perfect grammar and punctuation is no problem at all. All that's important is that the reply/post is understandable enough.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck to your journey to Full member!

Great testimony Rengga Jati, thank you for sharing.
Many new users often complain how difficult is to get merits and feel they deserve merits for their posts and feel angry because others don't think so.
You chose the right way, improved your post quality and wrote posts which can help others or post which contribute to the forum.
It's right way, please continue that way and other members will reward your effort and contribution.

I always tried to highlights "today's newbie is future Legendary. When I have joined on this forum that times merit system was already implemented. So I become current position by earning all merits. My merits was always greater than my activity. Even still now I have earned merit for Legendary but just lack of activity. If you do good then you will return good as well. So it's true nothing is impossible although its quite complicated for newbies but always keep your confidence that its possible.

What I believe, some people become disappointed after made some post when they do not received merits. That thoughts is totally wrong, you should not give up. Who know when merits will come? Posting intention should not for merits, post should be useful and informative. If community think that you deserve merit then they will do. I always try to spread that word, "share your best knowledge and experience with community" no matter what is subject. Even there is off-topic board, so feel free to share your thoughts if your thought something likely off-topic.

Keep it up op, hope very soon you will be Full member and if you continue your contribution it will not very hard to achieve Legendary rank. Best wishes for you & please always try to help newbies with your smerits.

Indeed. I agree that it is not a big problem as long as the post/reply is understandable. Having good grammar and punctuation is just an extra point for a poster.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck to your journey to Full member!
Thank you, sir. Your support is greatly appreciated.  :)

Great testimony Rengga Jati, thank you for sharing.
With my pleasure, buddy. I'm so glad if people can be motivated or inspired by my post. I always happy if I can contribute to help others.

Many new users often complain how difficult is to get merits and feel they deserve merits for their posts and feel angry because others don't think so.
Yeah, some people still debate about the difficulty in getting merits. However, it doesn't solve the problems. Even merit sources or sMerit holders probably bored with that complaint. So, it is better to stop it and try harder.  ;)

It's right way, please continue that way and other members will reward your effort and contribution.
Definitely. I will do my best and never stop to do efforts.

My merits was always greater than my activity. Even still now I have earned merit for Legendary but just lack of activity.
Only a few people can have higher merits than activity. Those are truly special members, including you sir. A lack of activity means your account age is still young, while your merit achievement shows that you have extensive knowledge. Incredible!!

some people become disappointed after made some post when they do not received merits. That thoughts is totally wrong, you should not give up. Who know when merits will come? Posting intention should not for merits, post should be useful and informative.
Yes, it is totally the wrong way. The focus must be on improving post quality, make it valuable (useful+informative). Merits will come when people think it is meritable, they shouldn't worry.

Keep it up op, hope very soon you will be Full member and if you continue your contribution it will not very hard to achieve Legendary rank.
I hope so. I will do my best to reach Full member this month. The next target is surely Sr - Legend. Even though it is hard, I will try with best efforts.  :)

-snip- please always try to help newbies with your smerits.
Certainly. I have a plan to make a merit giveaway for JR & Newbie only. I'm still trying to collect an adequate amount. I will make it once I have collected more than 20.

NO, don't do that, it's too early. When you will read all the boards then automatically you should find good posters. Why is it necessary to open merit giveaway thread? Yea, I know some people opening merit giveaway threads, there is some special reason. Likely they have enough merits but didn't have time to distribute that and of course there is some bad intentions for some users as well. Some users thought merit giveaway means quick merit earning method. I know your intention isn't not bad but there is so many things you have to learn.

Try to find good post by yourself, not by merit giveaway thread. Even I am a merit source but I don't like to open merit giveaway thread. Because I am around all boards, so I can find them easily. Now my source merit is empty even there is almost a week remaining to refill. So you have only small smerit, just spend it yourself to some newbies who at least creating good post. Hope you got my point.

Of course, my intention is surely to find out good posts of JR or Newbie that deserve. Will be glad if I can contribute to help a good JR or Newbie.

If you want to find good posters from newbie, you can used patrol features https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=recent;patrol sometimes you will find a good post from there. Using patrol will allow you to find spam post too and feel free to reports any spam that you find. 1 reports from you will make this forum clean from unwanted post.

Good luck :)

Thank you for this information. To be honest, I just know about it. You are right, sometimes I am looking for good posters to distribute sMerit. And it will better if they are newbies or Junior ranks. But I don't exclude higher ranks for the merit. If a higher rank deserves it, why don't to give it.  ;)

Using patrol will allow you to find spam post too and feel free to reports any spam that you find.
Cool. One tool has double functions, it seems interesting. Of course, if I see a spam post, I will directly use the "Report to moderator" feature.

It's fantastic having to see members with regards to their journey, and you didn't let merit stand in your way. There are just some people who don't want to give the needed effort to make posts that matter. Once you get to that habit of posting quality posts, you would surely receive merit for it. With everything you listed, I think it's already safe to say that you are on your way if you follow these tips. I hope the report button be used more often by members so we could keep the forum clean.

On to your next rank up, OP. Congratulations.

Yes. It is true, I have proven it. People will give us merit if our posts deserve for it. We just need to make a reason for the merit. Quality, valuable, or useful is some criteria that we must have on our posts in order to earn merits. Then, make creating good posts to be our habit, so that we have more chances earning merits.

I hope the report button be used more often by members so we could keep the forum clean.
It is the duty of all forum members. Yep, I will try to more often use that feature. I also have the responsibility to keep our forum clean.

Congratulations, you have the right to be happy now because you have succeeded in achieving full member ranking. If you can maintain and improve your quality and abilities, the ranking of senior members will soon be achieved.

I dont think that complaints can help us get promoted, without effort and concrete evidence we will never achieve them. I have seen that you have been quite active in posting great things lately, there have been many sacrifices you have made and maybe you have reduced your daily rest time to write as well as possible.

I feel the same way as you, spending more time when I want to post because almost all posts are made as an effort not to be categorized as spam, junk and low quality. Your journey is still quite long, I hope you do not stop here and continue to try to provide the best for the forum and community.

It is indeed that the implementation of merit is very useful for starters who push their limit in order to become a valuable member in this community. We admit that developing this kind of posting behavior is tough especially when a user is not dedicated in helping himself/herself to grow.

Adding from the list of factors you have mentioned, I think this kind of daily habits of reading and listening to podcast and reading technical books which I myself do will help your learning curve to expand exponentially as this is the common denominator of old and high ranking members in the community.

Keep aiming high and help people as much as you can. You are doing great.  ;)

Everyone has the same opportunity if they want to become a member with a higher ranking after the merit system is implemented in the forum. Many users have proven that this merit system will not prevent members who have quality and useful posts from rising to higher rankings. I am a user who joined the forum after the merit system was implemented and I managed to prove that if we can make quality posts then we will have the opportunity to move up to a higher ranking than before and now you have also proven it.

But I get good advice from someone about merit "never make a post just to get an merit because such behavior will only make people think that you are a materialistic user and focus on posting something useful so that people will respect you".

Dont say that. Instead make his achievement your inspiration. Envy will only lead to your own frustration, even though he ranked up on a very short period of time its just mean that he is really outclassed some users with the same level or rank but there are lower rank here that even good when it comes to discussion than most high rank. Try to improve and youll be there in no time. In addition, if your gonna response, or create new topics, dont expect merit will come your way but just continue it. Im sure many will noticed your perseverance and effort.

That suggestion should be a top priority when we contribute to this forum, I myself have done it without thinking of anyone giving merit to me.
Most importantly I try my best to make posts or threads that are useful for other users.

Without me realizing exactly four months to this day, I have obtained 550 merits.
And I realized that was part of my effort and enthusiasm to contribute well.  And I still want to try even better.

Exactly, many others have proven it and even the number of merit received has exceeded the amount of activity. Merit is an absolute requirement if someone wants to be promoted to the next rank after sufficient activity. The purpose of implementing a merit system is to encourage users to post something that is quality, constructive and free of spam and I think the merit system has a positive impact on the forum.

It is possible that some users have different perceptions about users who have been classified as most merited, so they will assume that every post made is aimed at getting merit from other users. But if our posting habits (quality, constructive and useful) aim to actively participate and contribute in minimizing spam and other useless posts in the forum then I think this should continue and ignore the scorn of other users towards us. Are there other ways to avoid ridiculing users ?

Agree, a lot of members have proven it. They can reach Full member, Senior member, Hero member, even Legendary member. So, no doubt that the new merit system doesn't limit our chance to have a high-level rank. Now, it depends on us whether having the intention to rank up & doing harder efforts to make quality posts or just complaining & doing no efforts.

"never make a post just to get an merit because such behavior will only make people think that you are a materialistic user and focus on posting something useful so that people will respect you"
Yes, that's the key point. Don't make a post only for merits (personal purpose) but make a post to help others (public purpose).  :)

There is no need to say any more words about your story that reflects very well in OP and comments above mine.

Your growth on the forum is surely an inspiration to other forum members and would encourage them to keep contributing as they would eventually get to rank up.
Consistency is the one important factor here on the forum. There are a lot of good posters that do not get to rank up at all or can not go beyond a certain rank as a result of a lack of it. You have been consistent in the forum for a long time now and you should be achieving your goal of being a hero member in no time.

You're welcome, buddy. I am so glad that you put my thread in the list. That's a big honor for me.
Yep, the main purpose of this thread is indeed to motivate lower-ranks and my self. Sure, I will continue and dedicate what I have to the forum.

Thank you for your appreciation, buddy. However, my journey is still far from the end.  :)

Consistency is the one important factor here on the forum.
This is something harder than improving post quality. You are not always in good condition and sometimes just have limited time in the forum. That's happening because we have a lot of activities in real life. But as long as I have time and it is possible to access the forum, I'll try with my best.  ;)

you should be achieving your goal of being a hero member in no time
I don't expect too much about it. Just try with my best and see what the result. For me, success isn't always about reaching the target but how you can learn many things through the process.

Congratulation you are now ranked up Sr. Member rank and I know Hero Member rank isn't hard for you to achieve for your next journey. I remember since the first time I saw you when you are making this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5209948) and you merited my reply. But now, look at you, you'd quickly earned merit and rank fast. That was an inspiration to others especially newbies that start to zero merits and you proved that the merit system isn't a barrier to rank up.

Keep up the good work mate, you really deserve what you had achieved now. You and @Rikafip are doing a great job and both the same campaign.
