Hi everyone !
Like every year soon we will have the ceremony of the Sscar to reward the best movie.
To start the year and maybe help some people with their resolution to earn more merits this year, I'm running a contest about it  ;)

The contest :

It's easy, you will have to find the winner of every category.  ;)

The Rules :

To join you need to be at least Jr Member on the forum and have earned a minimum of 10 merits in the last 120 days.
To join the contest you need to fill this form : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1bvTa_CAvg1hcNCfbV27HjkV7f7FObylH7ovLnTe3UnU

In order to talk discuss about the movies and the ceremony, when you post your predictions here please add a (Y) if you saw the movie OR a (N) if you didn't see it.

Of course you can edit your prediction if you respect the limit, to edit a prediction : PM on the forum of just filled the form another time  ;)

I will not verify if you earned the minimum merit required to join the contest so you have till the limit to earn merits and be eligible  ;)

To avoid conflicts or manipulation, you will also have to post your bet here, you can use the spreadsheet to copy/paste : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ppr6FA5QTNCYSxMtYnESqHm1AvMHbDa03ZRthot3LM8

I know some people will be lazy to check all the box because of the high number of category so : you don't need to  bet on every category, but more category means more points and more chance to win  ;)

Score calculation :

Simple : For every category you win, you get 1 point, at the end we will see who win.

Rewards :

1st place : 3 merits
2nd place : 2 merits
3rd place : 1 merit

The rewards are not high at the beginning but they can be increased :

If this post is merited by people, I will use EVERY s-merits to increase the reward.

For example :

-At the end of the contest the post gets 0 merit, final reward will stay the same and i will give a total of 6 merits

-At the end the posts gets 6 merit, I will add 3 merits and increase the reward. So I will give 6+3 merits.

-At the end the post gets 7 merit, I will add 3 merits too.

Limit to join the contest :

So far we don't know the list of movies so we need to wait for it.
you will have till 4 February 2020 11.59PM French Time (so UTC+1) to do your list

Questions :

-Can  I edit my bet ?
-> Of course you can, until 4 February 2020 11.59PM French Time (UTC+1) BUT you will have to fill the form again and to create a new post.
Do NOT edit your old post or you will be disqualified.

-If I win can I choose the account which get the merits ?
-> No you can't, the account of the winner will get the merits.

-In case of  multiple winners  what happened ?
-> The first people to have filled the form will win. If you change your bet many times, you reduce your chance to win.

If the rules of this contest are against the rules of the section or if a section is more appropriate, feel free to PM me or inform me  and I will edit it  :)

I wish you a good luck and will edit the post when we get the list of Nominees.

So far we can talk a little bit about here about which movie will be nominees :)
If you have suggestions or questions feel free too :)

Merit are not made to be a reward for guessing the Oscar winners. How can you contribute to the forum if you win?
Better use some crypto as a reward. You can even make a pool so the participants can also contribute to the prize.

This is just a pure merit begging :

The forum is not only for people who want to talks about Crypto, that's what there is off topic sections.
Because I don't want to put crypto as a price and do not want to create a pool (to avoid "scamming" problems ) I put the contest here.
But I agree with you, if it was possible on my side I will have put some.

Like said in purple in the post  :
If the rules of this contest are against the rules of the section or if a section is more appropriate, feel free to PM me or inform me  and I will edit it  Smiley

If you and other people have the same feeling about the contest and I can understand that, I will remove the rules and just run a normal contest. That's not a problem for me and I hope you will join the contest too.

I wish you a good day

Hehe it seems I'm the first participant :)

I filed the first form, but when I wanted to fill in the second link you provided, I saw that all the cells in that Excel spreadsheet were already filled with my responses. Is this normal?

Regarding what movies I watched, I can mention The Irishman, Joker, Once upon a time in Hollywood and Avengers: Endgame.

Ok for the best picture I think 1917 can win
Best director I think you are right too, even if I don't really enjoy "the Irishman "

If you are the only one to join the contest .. you will win the first prize by default  :D

But remember what I said in my first post:
I want to be the first signing up for this contest :) Ofc, we have to wait the nominees, but I already stated I'm in!

I was the first who announced his participation and I was indeed the first who posted his prediction :) I kept my word!

Well, it is still some time left... 2 more days  actually.

I'm curious though, why nobody else joined the contest.

I organized myself 2 merit giveaways in the Romanian board, but in 2 months only 1 applied. It seems very intriguing.

Just to add that I am disappointed that Uncut Gems (2019) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5727208/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0) didn't get any nominations. Film was finally released via Netflix last friday, and i must say it's one of the best films of 2019, for me top 3 probably. I am not a fan of Adam Sandler, but he kicked ass in the role of self-destructive diamonds merchant, and imho he deserved the nomination for his role. Directors, brothers Safdie also deserved the nomination.

I remember that two other users (algorithminer and peter0425) were earlier interested about this contest. Maybe they will join in though. I hope they didn't forget lol.

Don't worry OP, I'am the third participants
Here are my predictions of Oscar 2020 winners:
...
I think that you missed this requirement

To join the contest you need to fill this form : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1bvTa_CAvg1hcNCfbV27HjkV7f7FObylH7ovLnTe3UnU

As i don't see you on the spreadsheet.

I didn't see "uncut gems" but thanks I will watch it !

It's definitely worth watching. Just to warn you that film is very fast paced and kinda chaotic with bunch of dialogues going on at the same time, but it serves the purpose.

I just opened that document and I see his prediction there... Maybe you missed it somehow? Although it is hard for that to happen as there were only 2 posts, lol.

Otherwise, maybe he filled the document after seeing your reply (meaning after the time expired)?

Yeah, it wasn't there at the time i wrote that post, i guess he missed that requirement, and he added that part later. At least there are 3 of us now haha, definitely looks better now then it was with only 2 of us predicting. I hope that  OP  accepts his submission even though deadline passed, as there are only few of us participating, and i surely don't mind.
Imho, OP should also share his predictions, just to see his opinion.

I really expected more interest for this, people here are not interested in Oscars , or in movies in general?

I really don't know, nor I understand. I am a great fan of watching movies, many movies, like thousands, since I was very young.

I even started 20 years ago to make a list with the movies that I liked the most. That list has over 1400 titles and I'm still updating it.

I also have another list, this one with upcoming movies, wich goes until the year 2115 (not kidding here), when will be launched the so-called movie you'll never see. It is a John Malkovich movie, named "100 Years (https://m.imdb.com/title/tt5174640/)", which will be launched in November 2115. Can't wait to see it! :)

As for Jawhead999's late fill of the document, it is OP's decision.

not that i think mate, maybe it is harder for others to join since there are form that needs first to fill up while in some events here the choices are given already in the OP and what needs is to just choose the desired candidates.

i think it is a easiness of the game makes it attractive from the prospective participants (or i might be wrong also}

I didn"t open the spreadsheet yesterday and saw it this morning.
I was thinking about accepting you to have at least 3 participants.
Others seems fine with it so welcome.
Filled the form if it's not already  done  ;)

Sad to see people don't like movies here  ::)

about peter0425 : Because we was one of the first people to reply here :

-The 3 participants the choice is yourse, if the majority agree, peter will join the contest BUT remember,  I can reward 3 people .. so if peter is joining the contest .. maybe one of you is not going to win  :P

- If you agree about it, I will give you the possibility to edit your predictions after peter's one (just to be fair).

What will you choose ? Act like players and add him or act like merit's guys and reject him ?
That's your choice  ;)

...

This was just a spam, all this was already mentioned in the first post of the thread.

for a change lol,all of them chooses 1917(in which i also love)but there must be another choices and also i love the concept of once upon a time though Brat Pitt seems to be a truly extra(sorry for the word but that is what i find him in movie)while Leo is showing Great acting Brad does nothing.i am a Big fan of Brad from Troy,mr and mrs Smith and in ocean movies and other movies he comes as Main character but in this one?nah

I personally don't think that 1917 is the best film of  2019, but i think it's the one that will most likely win an Oscar.  When i made predictions, i went with what i think Academy will choose, rather than who i would like to win. For me Marriage Story was the best one, but i doubt it will win an Oscar for best film. Since i mentioned which one is the best for me in 2019, i might as well mention 9 more that make my top 10 of 2019:

2. Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7131622/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)-this was the tough call, to decide whether i liked this one or Marriage Story the most. For me this is one of the best Tarantino movies so far, i really enjoyed the film, it was a bit different than usual Tarantino style, and i liked the change.

3.Uncut Gems (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5727208/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)-i expected a good film, knowing that Safdie brothers are capable directors, but this was even better than i expected. Extremely fast paced and anxious film, that gets us right into the world of a hardcore gambler. It will not be a everyones cup of tea as it is kinda "attack on senses", but it's worth checking it out.

4.Parasite (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6751668/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)- another very good movie from Bong Joon Ho, and interesting mix of genres. And one more with strong message, like in his previous work.

5.1917 (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8579674/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)-beautiful film to watch in cinema, i really enjoyed this one. Tehnically perfect, and one of the best war movies i saw since 2001 and Black Hawk Dawn.

6.Joker (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7286456/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)- I am not a fan of comic based movies, so i liked a bit different take on known villian, with great performance by Phoenix.

7.The Lighthouse (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7984734/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)-second film by Eggers, guy who made an excellent horror The VVitch few years before. This one is definitely not for everyone, as film is made in style of 1920 German cinema and great F.W Murnau, with a  bit of Greek mithology. Dafoe and Pattinson did great job there.

8.JoJo Rabbit (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2584384/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)- serious theme made in a different way, reminds a bit of Life is Beautiful. Taika Waititi is simply not capable of making a bad film.

9.The Two Popes (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8404614/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)-i am not really a religious guy, but that didn't stop me from enjoying in this one. Pleasant surprise, and very good Hopkins and Price in leading roles.

10.Doctor Sleep (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5606664/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0)- sequel to Shining, made by the Stephen King book of the same name. We all know that Shining is one of the best horrors ever made, Kubrick's masterpiece, so i must admit that i was really skeptical about this one, but it turned out to be good film, thanks to Flanagan who is an experienced horror movies director(he made few good movies and an excellent series, The Hunting of the Hill House). As long as you don't expect the same style of movie like Shining, you will be good.

Few honorable mentions: One Cut of the Dead, Dolemite Is My Name, Togo, The Art of self-defense, Arctic, Dragged Across Concrete, The Kindergarten Teacher, Dogman, Shazam!, Dark Waters, Ford vs Ferrari, The Wild Pear Tree, The Mustang, Birds Of Passage, Pain and Glory..

Anyone else interested to share their top 5/10/whatever while we are waiting for Oscars? I am always on the lookout for new films! ;D

Dear padawan:

Read carefully!

From all of this thread you seem deserving my list! If you want it I can email to you! This is my last 20 years work!

I'm  the greatest film fan ever (watching movies since 1930 :) ). Just let me know if you want the list! + Or anyone else :)

While we are waiting for @Tramirostronix to announce official results, i checked a bit and unless i miscounted, this is what i got:

Rikafip 13/24
Jawhead: 9/24
peter0425: 5/24
GazetaBitcoin: 3/24

I am definitely surprised by Parasite, as it's the first time foreign film ever to  win best picture award, but i can't say it's undeserved as it is undeniably  quality movie. It might be easier for other non-English movies to win best picture Oscar in the future, now when Parasite broke the ice,  especially for  South Korean cinema  as they had even better movies than this in the past, Like Memories of Murder, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring, Oldboy, Mother,  etc..

Hum I just look on my page the highest mark so it will be :

j'accuse
joker
once upon a time in hollywood
avengers
the dirt
grace ΰ dieu
and after i don't know aha

Interesting choice. I have j'accuse and grace ΰ dieu  on my watchlist, i will definitely watch them  when they come out.

i have not seen parasite yet because i am not really a fan korean film(just my own taste of movie to watch sorry for the fan here)but i am shocked how they win 2 categories right?and the controversial is that Best Picture award in which for the first time foreign film get the oscars.

Congrats Mate seems that you are the highest scorer, you are really a movie enthusiast ..

Hi guys , sorry for the delay .. I have no wifi in the place i am currently .. and my phone is almost dead so almost no data at all....

But it should be done today !

I was also surprised by parasite but about the best movie Oscar ... A small part of me think it's because of the "Oscar are racist .. only white people win "  ::)

I think this should Be Changed  Accordingly to Updated Rank Requirements. To a Member as Contest entry requirement or if you need Entry to be Jr member those 10 merits should be removed to atleast 1 Merit with 30 activity which is Jr member Rank status , it kind of confusion when you look to updated ranks Requirements.

Rank   Required    Activity  Merit Required
Jr Member             30        1
Member                60        10

(To join you need to be at least Jr Member on the forum and have earned a minimum of 10 merits in the last 120 days) 10 Merit is Member Requirement

The requirement means that you should be Member and Not Jr as written it suppose to be clear for anyone to understand

Indeed, the contest did not allow Jr. Members, nor Newbies, but it was stated in the OP.

However, as a funny fact, I just realized that I didn't take any look (of curiosity) at participants' eligibility regarding merits: to have earned at least 10 in the last 120 days.

According to this criterion:
- GazetaBitcoin registered in the contest on Jan 29th, 18:12:02. According to loyce.club, I had earned at that moment more than 10 merits in the past 120 days, thus I was eligible - http://loyce.club/Merit/history/1285797.html

- Rikafip registered on Feb 3rd, 10:40:11. According to loyce.club, at that moment, he had also more than 10 merits earned in the past 120 days, thus being eligible - http://loyce.club/Merit/history/2658890.html

- Jawhead999 registered on Feb 4th, 12:24:50. According to loyce.club, at the registration he had also earned at least 10 merits in the past 120 days, thus being eligible - http://loyce.club/Merit/history/2578892.html

- peter0425 was signed up against his will ( :) ) on Feb 6th, at 17:02:42 and, according to loyce.club he had earned only 7 merits in the past 120 days prior the registration (http://loyce.club/Merit/history/950952.html), thus being not eligible for the contest. However  in his case the criterion is irrelevant, as he was dragged in, instead of registering himself :)

With other words, the contest and its participants were 100% legit!

The contest is already over... Don't you know that Oscars were already awarded?

If you ask "if you could have been eligible", the answer is "no", as you did not have 10 merits earned in the past 120 days prior the contest.

you don't need to point up merits earned by JR.MEMBER because even the account received more than 10 merits but "lack of activities" he will remain as JR Member rank so His ranked won't complicate the rules since he can still gain 10 merits and remain as His rank.
