On this occasion, more than one number of topics has already been created. Although I myself do not have a single merit, the methods for gaining it are obvious to me. Here is some of them.
1. Share useful content
Find interesting things that touch the blockchain world and share it with the community. Who knows, maybe something from what you find will seem interesting to someone. Do not forget to check through the search for anything similar already on the forum. And in the case of copy-paste, do not forget to leave links, otherwise you may be banned for plagiarism.

2. Translate articles.
Translate interesting articles into your native or other languages. Do not forget to leave links to sources.

3. Create your new content.
If you know and know something well, maybe you are an expert in something, then why don't you share your knowledge. If not, then nothing prevents you from exploring the topics you are interested in and becoming an expert in them. The community is always happy to host new interesting content.

4. Help people understand the technical aspects of the blockchain.
The same as point 2, only here you direct your forces to help people who need it.

5. Help the moderators clear the forum of spam.
Become one of the reporters, thereby helping to at least slightly clear the forum from an endless series of spam.

6. Become a detective.
Investigate cases of merit transfer, cheating in bounty companies, look for multi-accounts and connections between wallets.

Good luck!

In my view, there are some ways.

A. Create Quality posts

  • Thread
  • Reply

Thread/topic
- Create a useful/helpful thread or topic.
- Its content should be informative, easy to understand, and clearly enough
- The sentences have a correct grammatical function and written in proper punctuation.
- The paragraphs are made in the right order, from opening to closing.
- The topic is delivered in a simple or straightforward manner. Don't make it complicated.
- Unique. It mustn't a copy-paste/plagiarism work.

Reply
- It should be on topic.
- The sentences have a correct grammatical function and written in proper punctuation.
- The idea/opinion must be reasonable, unique, and factual.
- The idea/opinion has value or something informative.
- It must be better presenting data or enclosing information sources.

B. Help others. When people asking about information related to forum, exchanges, wallet, or etc

C. Report spammers, merit abusers, or bounty cheaters

Hello, welcome mam.
I view your profile. You are an old member of this forum. But you are inactive for more than a year. My suggestion for you....

1. You have to active in this forum. Read topic on various section of this forum which is rewarded with merit. Then you can understand yourself how to get a merit.

2. Create something which is beneficial to the forum, to the other members of this forum.

3. You can start a good quality topic in any section of this forum about anything which is interesting to other. And you are honor with merit.

4. Try to help people who ask for help.

5. Don't make a spam post.

6. Don't ask for merit. Just try to do something good for forum. Merit is the reward of your work. So don't worry. When you are eligible someone must give you your reward.

Best of luck.

Tell me, what are the most effective ways to earn merit in 2020?

First of all, you need to understand that this forum is much more than one board where you spend your time and write 99% of your posts (Alternate cryptocurrencies). I personally have no interest in that board, but it is widely known that the distribution of merits in that board/s is very low because of the huge amount of spam and fact that most merit sources never visit that board.

There are dozens of useful threads that can help you with the questions you have, but generally, you have to change your approach to the forum, and if you do that be sure someone will reward you with merit/s. I check your posting history, and unfortunately, there is nothing that is worthy of merit.

OP can use Search to find what she need as well as read through those threads:
Inspirational stories from self-made promoted users (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5100307.0)
If she does not want to read stories of the others, let's look at the Merit stats center (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats) of the forum. She can find lots of valuable points from most merited topics/ replies.
  • Top-merited topics, all time (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=toptopicsat)
  • Top-merited recent topics (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=toptopics)

Post original and creative content.
Keep on posting.

It would be really good to apply some of what you wrote to yourself, because apart from 500 airdropped merits you didn't earn any. "Keep on posting" just to fill the quota of posts needed for a signature campaign is very bad advice. It's better to post nothing than to post zero value content, or to beat dead horse in mega-threads.

After the nap your account has taken for over a year, why does this become your first concern to post about?

Not to dwell on the matter, but the first thing you’ll need to look into is how to improve noticeably your posting habits. Fine, it’s not a matter of length, but a history of consistent one-liners in the Altcoin section does not denote a steady path to creating decent enough content, and that is what is basically required. Now whether creating content is innate, requires some prior research, or needs careful though, depends on one’s capabilities and available time, being this latter aspect a non-neglectable ingredient. The more you spice your posts with it, the better the outcome and postulancy to being merited.

Start by locking this thread. Then read a lot first before posting anything that you dont know yet about here in forum, simple details could help you earn merit later on if you use it on the right way.

Merits will come once you become more affiliated in forum and its rules.

Avoid posting thread such as simple one like this which you can read easily by using this Search (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=search).

information, one way or another they will notice your post, before you know it, you
will see lots of merits , that is if you are contributing to the forum, so always post something

TMAN'S guide to getting merit. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3182178.0) here is a guide for you know which are the worthy posts to receive merits.

Try to explore the forum there are already lot of rankup stories and how to earn merit threads are available in the first page of this section itself.

It's always the same, really.
Write good quality posts, something what can help others like scam warnings for example.
Sometimes local users can have difficulties to receive merits if they can't write in English but there are a lot merit giveaway topics already in this forum, so if you have something to offer to the forum users, you will be rewarded for it.

From here maybe it's hard to get a merit if you post on international board since there are so many things that needed to consider like posting some helpful  post and other things that can contribute well here but don't expect to get this easily since it's really get to hard those merit here since reputation will be a + so that you will be notice. But try to focus on your local section and help newbie people there and by there you will get a high chance to receive more merits.

1) Take part in contests, for example, in 10th anniversary art contest there were tons merit being given away to participants (their work was good, no doubt on that).

2) Take part in giveaway threads, there were lots on Christmas and on new year days.

I miss to join those past 10th anniversary contest and merit is raining for people who joins but for now maybe the one I see the most effective to get those merit is helping the newbies in your local section since I think the competition for getting those merits is less compare to international boards where mostly the one who get it is those people who have huge reputation and scam busters but identifying scams takes to much time of work.

I can speak for my local board (Spanish) as to that statement. It’s as you say there, but with a fineprint that will vary, I figure, from one local board to another.

The Spanish forum lacks a fervent amount of activity, and as such, those that do post there are easier to spot. The lower ratio of competitors favours those who can create a decent post, although helping out newbies is not a trend, simply because there are not that many to help. The topics are more information related and raise some debate and versed opinions around the topics.

The associated fineprint may be that the amount of merits per post is lower than on other forum boards, and so is the number of meriters. The key obviously is to have at least one decent merit source around there.

Even so, I find that, at least on my local board, the best posters are also participants in the general English sections, and have no problem being merited there (and generally are better merited on the English boards).

I don't really have much idea cause I was able to make it till my rank right now through posting a lot way back when merit sysyem is still not present. Throughout my experiences, the only way I was able to get merit was through giveaway threads which offers free merit and sometimes, I get some merits through posting real high quality posts that is very relative to the topic. I feel sorry for the newbies cause ranking up is not as easy as it was before.

Not always because merit was not supposed to give as a token of appreciation, it just to identify the good post but most scam hunters get merits but not everyone especially their effort given into finding the scammers.

As icobits says, useful post to the forum will give you merits, and if you can develop some useful tool for the forum then you will have tons of merits.

You have to understand what was merits made fore if you want to get them. This is a reward system for the good quality posts, if a user like your post he will give merits. So, do some educative and friendly posts and you will be i in the right track.

The art contest is over already, and it was productive for many users in: earning merits, developing and showing their skills etc, but who knows when another opportunity like that would come again. I don't think it's a way users should hope to earn merits, probably they'll have to wait for another landmark anniversary, they can just do good works(with effort)on the forum to earn merits, maybe not a ton like the art contest produced, but with time if they double their efforts, the little would add up into a lot(many)
Be a scam hunter or buster and merit will pour in your account.
Users shouldn't want to be scam hunters because they want merits, they should only do so to help the community, and to protect them from losing their cryptocurrencies, merits would then come at the end, but should not be the first aim.

I just found out that earning merit is the most important factor in increasing your rank. Now looking at the posts of the forum, how some people earned so much credits/merit?

I am not here for long time, that's fair. But earning 1000 merit will mean at least 1000 posts that will be highly appreciated by others.

So the point here is, doesn't matter how good your posts are. It matters how much are these appreciated by those that already have the merit to share. But what if that specific person doesn't want to share its own credits?

Not necessarily. A post could garner as many merits as long as it's informative/ useful. Some members tend to be generous, hence higher numbers. For example:

It does matter how good your posts are. That is the number one criteria for getting merits. Post quality and helpful content. It's possible to get merits for funny or quirky posts but this only accounts for a little of the total merit distribution. A quality post is subjective but overall there would be a correlation in what majority of forum member consider deserving of a merit.
But what if that specific person doesn't want to share its own credits?
Nothing can be done, only sources are lightly obligated to distribute their smerit. And much attention shouldn't be paid to who is distributing merits around. Concentrate more on who is benefiting from your posts.

They did it by putting in a lot of efforts that you didn't. Earning merits is not as simple as it seems, you need to be highly productive in your content. And believe me, airdropped merits are worth shit to me and cannot be seen as something appreciated but rather more helped.

Quote
I am not here for long time, that's fair. But earning 1000 merit will mean at least 1000 posts that will be highly appreciated by others.

So based on your theory, I should have at least 2335 merits with me because my post count is 2335 (including this one), right?

Quote
So the point here is, doesn't matter how good your posts are. It matters how much are these appreciated by those that already have the merit to share. But what if that specific person doesn't want to share its own credits?

Your words speak. And they show what you are and what level of knowledge you possess. The same thing can be seen in your post that you have got no determination nor dedication to become helpful to this community 'and you cannot become helpful to anybody because of your way of thinking'. It is anybody's right to keep or share their sMerits to anyone they want/don't want, you cannot put all your eggs into one basket and the same rule applies here.

Stop what you are mostly doing that keeps you from getting any merit. Try doing something new would help you earn merits. 2020 or not does not mean the chance of getting merit change. It is entirely up to you whether you post creative reply or post to help those in need of help or not. Do some research to avoid asking a question that has been answered many times.

One of the most important ways to achieve Merit is to know how to make relevant comments. Posting that genuinely benefits others, or creating topics that many may benefit from. Everyone who posts consistently well is well-respected. Merit is not everything. Learning and teaching are the main purposes of the community. If you can do the work of teaching and giving it carefully, then you will get more merits from community users.

I have been saying this a lot, and for sure everyone too. It's about the quality of your posts and topics. Ways of earning merits from the past year aren't different from 2020, it's still the same. If it's worthy of receiving merit, someone will give you. Most people here are kind when it comes to giving merit, you just have to make sure that you are deserving. But most of the users are looking for quality content, the one who gives information that can give additional knowledge here. Some are also looking at the attitude towards other users. So basically you just need to be you and give a contribution.

Very good explanation.
In my local Croatian board we have topic where users can report good quality posts which deserve merit.
As I see,  mostly posts which share some crypto news,  warn about scams or explain something receive merits from users.
For local members can be difficult to receive merits if they don't write in the English part of the forum so it's important to have more local merit source and I think theymos understand it.

I have been saying this a lot, and for sure everyone too. It's about the quality of your posts and topics.

This is the only reason people should focus with. Impressive merits you receives from your post I think everyone who read your suggestion would definitely get inspired. Youre just upgraded from Full member last time I checked and now almost near the senior rank level. Congratulations to you, newbies should imitate the efforts youre doing to have merits.

Getting Merit is becoming increasingly difficult, people are very greedy and do not want to share.  :P

What does it mean that people have become greedy? I looked at your profile. Are you from Russian locale? Why don't you look at the topics that the Russian meritsource Ratimov offers? There are some very interesting suggestions. Do not whine and do not complain that now it is difficult to achieve merit. You need to become useful for the forum. And then your reward will surely find you.

Just like what everyone had said, all you need to do in order to procure merits is through making quality and informative post. Provide contribution that could be helpful for everyone in this forum. And always remember to follow rules and never beg for merits because someone eventually will send out if your post or topic is truly worthy. For further info you could check out his link for merit FAQs https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0

Care to elaborate?
I figure you’re not really talking on behalf of your account strictly, since you’ve barely made 13 post with this account, bear 2 earned Merits (from April 2019), and have not sent any sMerits (you should have 1 in your account).

It is not increasingly difficult really. Being there less competitors now than some time back, anyone that stands out a (wee) bit and is persistent will be merited without having to wait for too long.

I guess that you do fully understand the difference between Merits (non-sensable) and sMerits (sendable). Just because you see a profile with a bunch of Merits (say 250), it does not mean that the account has any to send (sMerits).

One of the best way for me is; never hurt for merit let the merit sources get to you by your posting quality. Many have been here but. Couldn't make more merit as they desire because they lack the attitude needed to earn merit. Merit will locate you in your deep when you aren't looking for merit, that was my secret while growing my account back then. Be helpful to other forum members and you will.be help with merit to rank up. Wishes you merit rain into the future.

Since the introduction of the merit system, a lot of time has passed. Tell me, what are the most effective ways to earn merit in 2020?
In my experience here in the forum it is really challenging to earn merits I think the best and most effective way to earn merit is :

Make a constructive post and threads that could be useful in the forum and always aim to help others in the forum most of the time a lot of forum members are going to give you merit if you help them with their problem or topic. I make constructive posts and threads that is where all my merits came from, I started doing it and continue earning merits until.

Just because they don't merit your post it doesn't mean that they are being greedy. Besides, it doesn't work that way and you have to understand it. It's a reward to a person who cares to share valuable post to enlighten their fellow members, they are worthy of it since they make some time and effort to help others. It will be hard if you never change your mindset, why not try improving yourself as well as your post? in that way you can make people realize that you deserve it too.

Thats the most misstake that some Users making , they try to make a few posts and the post is only done because they expecting Merit,
and thats the wrong reason for doing it , and they get greedy when they dont receive any merit.

If you doing a helpful post or thread for help other Users or share your experience without expecting to get Merit that should be the Spirit.
Sometimes you get Merit and sometimes not . move on and keep helping and at some stage its possible you get a Merit.

Since I have recently ranked by earning merits. So now I am sharing some little things that helped me to earn some merits.

1. Follow/read other high reputed member posts.
2. Think Again and again before making any post.
3. Keep in mind that forum is 10 years old so already many things are presented here, you have to find anything which is unique than others.
4. Creating helpful/unique/constructive topic help more than a helpful reply to get more merits.
5. Don't be hungry for merits, Relax and move. Don't create any pressure own self  to make post.

This is my personal opinion. I don't know how many people will agree with me. But I think should be.

Create good post then you can get merit. Posting like this, then no one will give you merit. With the mindset of helping others, you will definitely get merit. If your post is not informative, you will not get merit, simple . You have to give something good to the community, which is important for the members of the community. I have seen many members use different strategies for getting merit, but they fail badly. So spend time on the forums and post some good post. The community must reward you.

Well to be honest, in earning merits, you do not think about EARNING them. You just share on what you know about cryptocurrencies or make a discussion about a topic that seems controversial or highly debatable. If you aim is to earn merits in this forum, you will definitely have a hard time gaining. What you need to think about is on how you can be an asset to this forum and the merits will be a by-product along the process.

If you are really determined enough to earn some merits, then make a useful thread along the forum and help newbies on their queries or questions on the forum. Helping one another and providing details about a certain topic may earn you some merits.

Presence
Yes, this thought came to my mind when I stopped coming on the forum due to some personal reasons I have faced during these days (months I mean). The more you come to the forum, the more topics and discussions you will explore where you will learn on some instances while you can share your knowledge on the other. Merits are not an easy task to gain, but there are users who have become a kind of fragrance of this flowered forum, their presence itself speaks for them as whatever they talk is appreciated due to the fact that they speak what's needed in the discussion and not shit. You decide when would you like to have your presence be noticed, but I guess if you're serious, the time is now and you should start looking for topics where you think you can say something that you know about (and the condition is, that thing must not have been said already or yours will be considered spam or repetitive post).

Popularity
On one hand, your presence gains you both knowledge and ways of sharing it, on the other hand it gets you popularity between people who start to follow you. This is one another way and it works like a charm, but there is one thing you need to have if you want to be popular - discipline. Discipline will get you the power to talk constructive only and no bs from you will surely earn you darn amount of merits. DdmrDdmr is the guy to follow, he's the best example of how you can be super constructive for the community. You need to get out of your comfort level to speak in various forum areas if you are looking to earn a lot of merits.

To get merit in this forum you have to post with useful words. When anyone will be benefited from your post's then they will rewarded you with merit. Otherwise there are no new tricks to get merit in 2020. So try to make useful post ,merit will came to you without asking.

You just said we all need to post good quality in order to gain merit  but also to post any new information that actually benefits them later. Before posting  there are different places to come and new strategies that can help others in the work. Also the forum gives more time and can open new trade.

actually to get merit is not easy because it takes a long time and you only need to make quality posts or make people impressed with your comments then you will easily get merit. I personally have never get a merit since this system was launched, because maybe my post was not good quality. but for you, make it good and quality posts so that you can achieve the highest rank. ;)

I want to highlight a point to you this maybe help you to realize why you didn't get any merit yet.

From scrolling through your post history you never really engaged into a discussion on any thread, simply posting on a thread and ignoring them forever will make you be another shit poster or bounty hunter.

There are some ways to accumulate merit  Earning talent was very easy within the past, but currently supported your ability  merit is given you would like to form good helpful posts in order that others like your post and obtain help  don't post any spamming or copy so you'll lose your ID  attempt to help people give new updated information which may be a lot of fun.

It seems to me that some people will always complain about merits and how difficult it's to get them while others will simply invest their time and energy in positive things, share their knowledge and experience with others and get rewards in merits.
It's all very simple, people who don't complain but try to help others, contribute to the forum, earn merits and respect from others.
People who complain all the time can't expect to receive respect from others.
Newbie should really invest their time and energy and educate themselves about btc and crypto first.
After that, use your knowledge and experience to help others and your community and other members will start to respect you.
I do not distinguish between old and new members when assigning merits, and I even have lighter criteria for new members, but what matters to me before I give merit is to recognize the effort and hard work of a member and the desire to help others with knowledge and experience.
I think it's the same also for others.

Each born with specific talent and know something unique that other don't know. Explore your possibility. Regularly engage with the community. Reply fast and accurately with content, link, quote etc.
