Title: How can we overcome our gambling addiction!
Post by: plvbob0070 on January 15, 2020, 03:02:09 PM
There's a story that my mom told me, it's about my uncle who once became a gambling addict that there comes a time where he sold most of their things in their house just to find money to gamble. The worst thing that my uncle did is to pledge their house just to satisfy his gambling pleasures.

I know it's not easy to overcome this situation especially when you're already in your point that you want to get back everything that you have lost. You keep on gambling thinking you can earn everything back. Actually, we're already lucky enough if we continuously win the game but even our luck has its own limitations. Without noticing it, our wins are slowly turning into losses.

I also know that some of us here will just put their attention on different things to avoid too much gambling. But in reality, it's just easy to say but harder to do. There's no easy way if you really got attached to gambling. But in your opinion or personal experiences, how do you overcome your addiction to gambling?

I've once been addicted to gambling it's a bad thing to think that gambling is the cure to earn, it's not a way of living, it's not the proper way to earn it's just a past time or let's say a recreational thing.

It's true that it's easy to say to avoid gambling and focus on other thing well it's up to the gambler if he really wants to stop gambling he/she should control himself/herself to do gambling and stay as much as possible, if the gambler told that he/she do it for fun and not to earn or to recover her/his losses an alternative is to download casino games and play using game tokens for free.

If the user desperately wanted to recover his/her losses and really addicted and can't help itself I suggest to seek a professional to this matter.

If you are deeply addicted you need help from your family and professional, I'm not that really addicted I can always find a way to not play even if I have money to play, there's a lot of things to do in life besides gambling, I only gamble at spare time and if time permit me.

How do we really overcome our gambling addiction? Simply by ignoring first some invites of your friends to play and gamble your money, but if you are already addicted on it, it would be really hard for you to stop on it maybe you need some medications or some therapy in order for you to go back on your normal life and get lost about thinking on gambling, psychology therapist is the best or the one will help you the most because there are the one who can tell you what your mind is going into and how you will relieved your addiction into gambling.

Uuhhh...  This is the section of the forum where you're encouraged to give in to your gambling addiction, not overcome it.  Lolol.  :D

which is why this is also a great board to post on how to overcome gambling addiction where a lot of gamblers can see it. but then again, gamblers will decide what to do about their habit/addiction.
but it is always great to see that there are threads like this letting people know what effects gambling addiction can have on your life and the people that close to you.

But in your opinion or personal experiences, how do you overcome your addiction to gambling?

in my own experience, I stopped or at least controlled my gambling habit before it became worse. having the will and discipline to control yourself will greatly help you through it.
but it is hard and the only reason I was able to overcome it is that I am fully aware of it and realize my responsibility with my family and the consequences that will befall if I don't stop.

You are not doing a great start, my friend, posting on the Gambling discussion? It's filled with gambling temptations here and not just the signatures but the topics as well. It might give you the urge, though. If you are serious about stopping your bad habit, you should focus on other activities. Maybe try some Art making or something recreational for you.

It's always up to the person to change themselves. It's hard to do, but it's worth it in the end. As long as you don't just say the words and do it, and you will be fine.

The way to overcome as social vice like addiction to gambling is not to get addicted in the first place. People who have been addicted and lost a lot before coming back to their senses would agree that the best way is not to get involved because there are some point that people will get to in gambling that what follows is a spiral downwards and nothing else can be done but for someone who is not there yet, the simple way out which I would continue to recommend is to start getting your attention on other productive ways to make money because the quest to make money in a sharp and easy way is mostly the motive that lead people to gambling.

First of all having the intention of gambling is to make more money from what they have should be changed if they really wanted to get away from addiction.Gambling can bring wins but not profits, means only very people can change their life with their fortune but others are keep making the gambling site or casino owners more rich.

Only the individual can change it and for that rehab centers will help them.

Overcoming gambling addiction is actually not hard, as long you surely wanted to quit gambling or to stop playing gambling. A lot of people also have stopped being addicted in gambling by just doing other things or activities instead of gambling like playing sports or working out because getting focusing on making yourself a great shape will really help you to lose your focus in gambling.

Your uncle can overcome his addiction if he really wants to change. A lot of people tried to say that they wanted to stop gambling yet you can still see them playing. Why? It's because they're not serious about it. Make yourself busy with the things you like. Work, travel, and more. In that case you wouldn't have too much time for gambling. Also, overcoming addiction doesn't necessarily mean that you'll stop gambling. It's about controlling yourself when you gamble. Why would you stop doing what you like right? When you can do it in a healthy way

Gambling addiction stories are quite commonly heard all around. I heard one such story that took place with one much known person. In my country one can end his living in a much comfortable manner with $200000. The person whom I'm talking about has lost more than $200000 in gambling. Another thing his concentration from the business got distracted, which gave him the source of income. By now he have once again started from the scratch.

I've never been particularly addicted to gambling, but even though I do agree to some extent that doing other things might be more difficult for some than others, finding new hobbies and ways to earn money in my free time was what helped me start gambling less and made me a much more productive person today. If you find something you truly enjoy and are passionate about, it can be easy to become absorbed into this activity and might help you overcome your gambling addiction.

Finding professional help is also always an option if you recognize that you have a gambling addiction but you don't quite know what to do. This can be much more effective than anything else suggested here.

The only thing that I could think that will help us to overcome gambling addiction "is to LOCKED ourselves to any gambling connection even our friends or our relatives. Cause I know it is really to get out from addiction if we still have a connection to it...but above all, it gonna depend on how sincere you are in doing this.

Actually, it depends on the person itself on how will he manage and control himself to avoid ending up into that horrible situation. Personally, I think that gambling isn't the problem, it is people who doesn't know his own limitations. It will not be easy if you're used to do it every single day and it's the reason why people should take a look at themselves and ask how gambling affects their lives. Maybe gambling is fun, entertaining and sometimes profitable but you can't literally assure yourselves that it will be worth it because gambling can guarantee you nothing. You can't just rely on other people's way of thinking to change your mind and decisions, try to explore yourself because sometimes we are the reason why we are suffering and feeling remorse.

That is very bad story of you to hear as it give much harm when your elder lose the property and then you spend your life as a poor person. I think for to stop that type of person we have to stop him in the start. He may not stop but he will not gamble openly and try to limit the budget of him for gambling and a long with that give some responsibilities to him so that he also spend time in some other works.

Gambling addiction is literally so bad habit that can overcome a person in some points, and the only thing that you can do is just to be strong enough to not let this addiction destroy you in a lot of ways, like mentally and even financially. It's all about yourself and how much you can control yourself over this, I mean by just set up a limit for yourself, you'll be safe as far as you just don't pass it.

Please don't ask questions that have already been asked in the forum many times before. Do your research and if you have something to add, get involved in a discussion in an existing topic. For example, take a look at this topic: Gambling Addiction at its Worst! (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5200442.0) . I'm sure you'll find plenty of answers to your question there.

Hard to overcome it when you are surrounded with gambling sites online. You are not born to have a gambling problem I'm sure anyone who has addiction to gambling will overcome it when he lost it all. With not money but still manages to sell things just to gamble will result an addict to jail time. I don't know if he can gamble inside still.

we should treat gambling problems as a health issue and not a criminal one.
it's somehow funny the absurd taste of your past comment.

there's always a moment in life where people get to a place and say: "no more".

there change starts.

thats true that the number one thing that can cure addiction is to divert your thoughts on other things that can keep you busy like working because when you work you can feel that you will earn stable income and that is more better than gambling .  that was actually what i did to overcome my gambling addiction on the past because i was also jobless that time  and i need money most of the time to support my other habits  . i became addict because i want to earn money out of gambling  .

Gamblers can overcome their addiction but the problem is, they don't allow themselves to do that. And that now leads to addiction and the inability to think right.

So how can a gambler overcome their addiction? That question can only be answered by a gambler itself. Even we list some things that might help a gambler, its useless since at the end of the day, it will be their decision if they will continue to gambling or not.

This is the reality of gambling. The solution to stop this addiction can only be found in our inner self.

Yeah, its easy to say but harder to do but it is indeed possible. It would just vary on how a certain individual would disciplined out himself not to play gambling anymore.
It would just matter on ones person if he do really mean to quit or stop because if he wanted to, he can but if he do let his emotions and addiction control him
then he would end up on playing again.Im not an addicted one thats why i cant really tell about the hardship into this situation. Its very unfortunate if you do
already sold out most of your things just because you do like to gamble.

Quitting gambling will be easy to say and will be easy to do if when someone already has a strong intention to quit. Based on the story or history that you have from the story it is clear, your uncle does not have control of many factors including the mindset and greed, when your uncle is brave with a blinded heart and decides to sell all goods and even a house, then it is an addiction that really can not be done alone, because at least there must be someone nearby to help your uncle get a wiser mindset.

Once you have been noticed that you are in addiction just divert your attention to other activities that surely you will forget gambling. Yep, I know that is not easy to overcome but pursue your self or else it will probably ruin your life and become miserable once you have it. I know this topic has been already discussed so many times here in the forum in any different way but I consider since you have a low rank and probably you did not read those topics. Self-control is a must and we should discipline our selves.

That's the part where regrets will come along once your addictions already reached the peak to the point that you'll do everything just continue gambling. It's yourself will that can help you to stay away from gambling because even you read and hear every opinions if you don't have sell will then you will just keep coming back and gamble your money.

One way of fighting an addiction is by replacing it with a substitute addiction which is positive. This should only be used in extreme cases.
In mild cases, avoid casinos or areas where you can find yourself gambling, you can also delete apps on your device which makes it easier to engage in gambling. You can also draw up a personal memo of things you may have lost due to your addiction, this would motivate you to quit. Also, have a strong will.

If you can’t do it on your own then ask for guidance because its not easy to stop your gambling addiction if you already attached on it. I find myself on a broken side while gambling before and I tell it to my partner right away and luckily she guide me well and I was able to overcome it, I’m still playing occasionally but not an addict anymore we just need to be honest to ourself and think for a better solution.

Just get help. Let your friends know about your addiction. Tell your families and your close ones the problems and sufferings you are facing due to gambling. They will help you!
Don't just go to the internet and take advice from random people. There are centers out there that helps people with compulsive gambling disorder. Get yourself admitted over there and let them treat you.

Basically, if a person cannot overcome their addiction there is a struggles behind his issues on extreme gambling activities. Because of frequent bettings, it made him more eager to win and recover the lost money. Making an adjustment towards the diversions that we wanted to like other activities, isn't an assurance if you're not get used to it.
That should be done ambiguously and patiently in order to come a successful outcome in the future, and even quit gambling for life.

And there was 1 thread discussing gambling addiction stories.

I think it is clear enough that everyone has his/her own way to handle/overcome gambling addiction. We can give some advice to the gamblers:
1. Remind him/her about his family
2. Tell him/her to strengthen his worship
3. Suggest him/her trying some hobbies to make busy and forget the gambling
4. Make him/her busier in social life activities
5. Make him/her realize that gambling is only wasting your time and money
6. Any other else

*It's my humble opinion.  :)

It's a worst kind of addiction already when it already involve your house just to fund your gambling needs,.. yes it has already become a needs because gambling is the only focus of an addiction gamblers and they will do everything just to gamble.

he cannot solve it his own, he need some real help from people around him, especially his family because that's what sees him and understand him, but he needs to ensure he will submit for changes, for worse addiction, a person should be put into rehab.

There are a lot of people whom have lost so many money in gambling yet still gambles, and that was what he called an addiction. Yet, gambling often seen as curable yet it somehow was not in a way that it requires the same rehabilitation as what drug addicts do. No one can say that they would stop gambling for their family or for him to buy something big. There would still be instances that he would gamble some or even a little just to fulfill his satisfaction.

Self will and therapy is the ultimate way to go to overcome this addiction. For many people, the make a pledge to not going back but unfortunately ended up in it again. The truth is, gambling addiction is just like drug addiction but unfortunately it's can't be cured with medications. So, it's the thing of the mind. I once restricted myself to playing twice a week, then weekly. Now I am planning on going twice or thrice a month. Best decision ever.

Understand the nature of your addiction.

You're not addicted because you want to make money, but because you're addicted to the dopamine hits that your brain gets every time you gamble, win or lose. The split second of uncertainty somehow appeals to humans, so much that gambling can be so debilitating.

I suggest that you fill your time wisely. When you find a task to concentrate on and you have tons of work to go on with there is no reason for you to gamble - it's as simple as that.

how do you overcome your addiction to gambling?

That's the hard part if you already addicted to gambling it will hard to stop. I think you can only reduce the gambling activity but totally decided to stop it will never happen so fast.

For me, you can reduce your gambling activity by looking for another game that you can be addicted to. Just like a kid that playing online games and get addicted so it will help to reduce your gambling activity.

If you want to overcome gambling addiction, you need to do it with someone else, you cant do it by yourself. You need someone to reminds you constantly that you are in the process of rehabilitation. Its not an easy thing to do, its something that needs ti be taken out from yiur system slowly until reached a point where you last a day, a week, a month without gambling.

Seek for professional attention and opinions, addiction is not something that we can solve easily. We need to know what are the suggestions of the professionals. I also became a addict in terms of playing gambling games but I overcome it when I visited psychiatrist. She limited me play and there are a lot of activities that she requires me to focus. She's opinion are effective to me and that is why. I have now control to my self.

Many people think that it's almost impossible to break away from addictions in gambling, and in my opinion it all depends on self-control and realizing the right time to stop and have consistent intentions.
and stay away from the gambling environment or anything related to gambling and move on to positive activities and if you want to play gambling, you should be able to avoid it firmly and there are many other ways if you are really serious about changing it.

Overcoming addiction is a major problem in many people, there are now gamblers who suffer huge losses and still addicted in gambling. We can only overcome gambling if our focus and goal is clear. What do I mean clear? We should identify what we want after all. If we are seeking profit then gambling is should not be only our option bacause there are a lot of options like trading of cryptocurrencies.

From your stories, it seems, your uncle has addicted to gambling. He cannot control himself and sell his house to satisfy his gambling pleasures. That won't be good for every people, and you already see how dangerous gambling if you become addicted. If your mind were losing control without you being able to overcome the gambling, you would not get anything from gambling, and even you will lose everything like your uncle.

In my opinion, to overcome the addiction to gambling, we need always to control ourselves. No matter if you win or lose, you need to stop what you did in gambling, close the tab in your browser, leave your computer, and do another thing. You need to talk with other people and let them help you to cure the addiction. But the medicine won't help you if you don't have an effort to rise from your addicting because you should act responsibly from the addicting.

They indeed suffer bigger loss, but if what's in their mind why they became more addicted and slave of gambling was due to desires to recover up their capital. When there's a lucky times of winning, it won't be fulfilled because they kept on thinking for an expectation to bet for possible lucky gains.
The scenario always becomes a redundant matter, that's why a gambler is more drowned into addiction and difficult to quit from gambling.

I am not certain if this is effective to other but it seems working totally fine in me. When I feel that I am turning into a mess I used to switch phase by reading a book. Well it was my hobby first, and it sounds weird though anyway I love reading books that is why I try to do my hobby to overcome such potential addiction. I am not saying that they need to read books as well, what I mean to say is that they might be needing to switch phase to where they find things enjoying such as their hobby or whatever it is.

Your uncle is on a very worst situation he will need to be rehabilitated and be guided by a professional, he will self destruct and lose his mind if no professional help, it depends on the level that we have if the situation is like your uncle that is alarming already and should be dealt accordingly, I'm glad I have not reached to that level and will do everything not to reach on that level.

It is next to impossible to overcome your addiction alone. Depending on the degree of your addiction, your family, friends, other hobbies and activities could save you away from that. But if it is an addiction to a worse degree, you really need to get the services of professionals. Professional rehabilitation procedures must be done.

It is true that it is easier said than done. Gambling is a habit hard to break. No one can help you but yourself, your drive to slowly move away from gambling. It might take time, but try to find other habits that would keep your mind away from gambling. People won't stop gambling not unless they are broke and realize they have lost everything. Discipline your self before it is too late.

For someone to quit completely in gambling. It needs a strong dedication but in your uncle's situation, he needs a help of professional. It's in the worst scenario where in he ain't thinking right and just doing anything just to fulfill his gambling habit. That kind of addiction is in another level and cannot fix all by himself or advice from family and friends. You cannot simply divert his attention into other habit without seeking a professional. Upon consultation, I believe he needs a continous moral support so he won't think of coming back to gambling again because if not, most probably, he will go back to his habit.

Not sure if broken people doesn't or will never continue gambling if they have lost what luxury they have before they got broke. I have witnessed a lot of average class people gambles more than those who are above them in terms of social stratification. Even those who strives to meet their needs in a daily basis find ways to gamble.
Self discipline is the main quality to completely eradicate the excessive gambling habits not the number of monetary possession.

I feel to control your gambling addiction, you need to know the reason of why do you even gamble. Is it for making money or just for personal enjoyment. If its for personal enjoyment , maybe change your circle of friends or find a hobbie to pursue. If it is for earning easy money, then there are now many ways to earn passive income..msyne pursue a hobbie which can earn for you in future.

Not most of the time because to those people who do have much more money compared to those who are on average or poor levels would really have that capability to play since they do have access on all things that they like. They have lots of money then they wouldn't care that much on how much they would use on each roll - in short theres no hesitance on spending it all unlike to those poorer were they do try as much as they can to minimize loses since they do know that they have lesser capital.

if the gambler told that he/she do it for fun and not to earn or to recover her/his losses an alternative is to download casino games and play using game tokens for free.

Agree.
Anyone who plays only for fun could just play the free versions of what they are addicted to. They could play with peers and win and lose points instead of money. I guess this will give them the thrill of betting and losing with real money

In most cases people who start as fun move forward considering gambling as a way of earning. Until it is considered as fun gambling is addiction free. If there happens a transition from fun to an earning source it is quite hard to get out of gambling further. If there happens win, then it leads to greed and if lost the person goes back for recovering the losses.

Before we decide overcoming gambling, it should be done in a step by step method. You can't do it quickly as you desire to, you might be deprived by your daily activity or that stress reliever of yours could be a struggle as you cut off instantly.

Doing it into minimal activity with an optimum time, and by adjusting your playing time along with the amount of funds. Gambling won't be easy if you first cut the funds that you usually bet for a betting game that you prefer. Seldom playing or reducing the days that you got involved with this habitual activities.

Playing gambling is not easy to stop like if a player really addicted playing games and for the player who tried to stop never do that but they need to control their selves when they want to play and how much they need to spend and when anf how much money they need to win so they will withdraw the money. Player addicted playing can do all do have money such as selling what they have but for the one time big time player who bet big for sure the things they sell is the property which is not actually good and once you lose you did not recover it.

I think that if you really want to overcome addiction first you need to acknowledge that you are addicted and ask for professional help as a first step.If you happen to rehabilitate yourself when you come out and start new make sure you limit your payment methods and exclude yourself from all the gambling sites.

I know easier to say and extremely hard to do but this is the only option.

I will gamble when I have money that can afford to lose and I didn't expected that I have to get my money back. That is one thing to avoid us to became gambling addict. Other thing, you should be aware that gambling is not a place to gain much money or even to be place as side your income.

Because you will be expected the money that you spend must be revert again, if you do that then I will bet although you spend a lot of time to play gambling you won't became a gambling addict. So, it is depend your intention, you have to choose when you start to know gambling and you have to accept everything with its consequences.

It is difficult to overcome gambling, especially if we are involved too deep in gambling. There is no other way for us to overcome gambling without asking for help from other people because we cannot do that alone. So far, I can handle myself, and I am glad that I can overcome the addiction because I don't gamble for a long time and I don't use big money like other people.

I feel that when I gamble, I only want to feel to gamble and never think about anything else because I realize that gambling is just for fun. If you're going to overcome the addiction, you need to have the power inside yourself so that you can handle yourself without a problem.

Professional and family help is the only way that you can overcome gambling if a guy is too deep into gambling, he cannot do it by himself, there's too much addiction, and the temptation is too huge to ignore, only a professional can set up a guideline and method, where he gives it in a patient to patient.

Professional Psychologist are only important if the person is not doing right and unstoppable. But if being addictive is just that he always have losses and can control his body. The only way to that if you're normal person is to discipline yourself and stop. If you really want to stop then you should do something about. There is no other person who can teach how to stop but yourself. Doing it minimally will help you to stop gambling day-by-day. When it is still early, try practice it and keep your money for yourself and for your family.

Just like other addiction it would not be easy especially if the addiction comes to a point wherein you did something worse to sustain it.

The will to stop is needed, avoid the place, computer or gadgets that might tempt you to gamble. Its better to have a vacation in a place where you cant access an internet and you can unwind.

The support of our family is also important because thats how we can get strength to overcome this, they are the first one to understand us.

how do you overcome your addiction to gambling?

I've talked about it in the past, gamble addiction and sex addiction, drinking addiction all cause serious harm to the person and everyone close to the person. In order for a person not to become addicted it is necessary to do various things in life and have a good discipline in financial life. You need to be a person who knows how to manage your money and time so that you do not become addicted and frustrated with life.

I already had someone addicted in the family and died because of addiction and now I have another addict, so I know how painful and difficult it is to solve

it's not as easy as you say, sometimes people are addicted to ruin everything, it's because they have difficulty controlling. in my opinion if addiction is fatal, it needs a companion like a psychologist.
but if addiction is still within reasonable limits, maybe it can be cured by yourself or family, and friends around. because I also played gambling for 3 years and addiction is still within reasonable limits, to recover it comes from myself because I really can control myself well.

I have overcome my gambling addiction with the help of my family, me alone, I would not successfully solve my problem as I was already taken controlled by my emotion and my brain is not functioning well.

If we are gambling and we usually break our pre game rules like "never chase bets" or "don't deposit when you lose your bankroll",, it's a sign that we have a problem and that might put us in big trouble in the long run.

Of course, professional psychologists can help them who are addicted, but if the addicted person doesn't want to tell you about his addicting, then that will no use at all. The important here is the addicted person has a will to solve his problem, and he wants to tell other people about his addiction so he can get the right way to overcome his addiction. Maybe that person needs to set his mind or hypnotize him so his mind will not think about gambling anymore.

There are a lot of ways to help someone addicted to gambling though it is not easy.

It is said that the first thing we should consider in helping someone addicted to gambling is by being there at all times. I heard that when an addict is isolated somewhere, the tendency of their mind is to get back to the thing they are addicted to so we need to be always there to entertain them, to increase the time that you are together.

Good for you if that was the case, but not everyone who can manage to stop right away like that. Most of the time people who are into this addiction only realized mistakes after huge losses take place, when they've already got nothing left and no one wanted to help them to the point that they already sell everything and manage to stole properties that's not belonged to them. Addictions have different effects from each individuals who experienced too much engagement to this activities.

The first thing to do to eliminate our desire to gamble is to ask ourselves this question;

''Why am I gambling?''

If the answer to this question is to make money, the situation is very bad because in response to this answer it is not possible to reduce or completely eliminate gambling. But if the answer to this question is just to have fun, then you can give up this fun and you can gradually lose your gambling habit.

it all depends on the level of addiction. Are they too bad? maybe it's true that they have to go to a therapist because it has entered their subconscious mind and has to change mindset to stop gambling. and this is the most important thing, find out what triggers made him gamble? and try to overcome it without gambling.

Sometimes questioning ourselves and accepting that we're wrong is really need to let us get away in a problem we are engaging. Once we didn't let ourselves accept that we're wrong and we put other excuses that worsen the situation. We should convince ourselves and all things will be in a right path.

Overcome from gambling isn't very easy task in my opinion. I were not much addicted so I overcome easily. Once a time I were unemployed, then somehow I were related with poker house (gambling only with play card). I didn't played much but was active on management team, although it was local but for safety reason there was need management team to protect from police and from local problems. So occasionally I played there, but never won (my bad luck on gambling). Somehow I come on abroad for work purpose and still working. So I forgot about poker now. Even I don't have enough time to play gamble on online. And I believe gamblers should forced himself to a real job or business in order overcome from gambling. Thats how they will be very busy and slowly will forget about gambling. Otherwise they won't come out from this addiction.

This is a very good start to control our selves in gambling, asking a question will make us awake to the road of possible addiction. There are too many ways to overcome gambling addiction but first, we should educate our selves and have discipline on it. Always remember this in your mind that gamble only of what you can afford to lose and chasing money is not a good idea in gambling. Divert to another habit might help you to forgot gambling for a while.

It only takes a few step forward onto something that would seem to kill you as you approach changes. And it only requires self discipline.

That's a sad news btw. Had you even tried to seek him some help out?

Indeed i knew some families were broken because of parents having addicted to gambling too. But still, gambling in physical world is different from gambling in cryptocurrencies and digital world. It only takes a few step forward onto something that would seem to kill you as you approach changes. And it only requires self discipline.

That's a sad news btw. Had you even tried to seek him some help out?
physical gambling and crypto gambling are both same gambling so what is the difference between the too?in same game we can lose our money that is why i don't see any difference about both

it's only us who can answer that, I'm afraid. Even if you consult your psychologist about the matter, if you want to gamble, you would still gamble and no one will ever stop you, not even the lack of funds on your pockets. The only thing you can do to stop going the route of a complete degenerate is to distance yourself from gambling houses/games and resist the urge of playing. Do not satisfy your thoughts of 'getting lucky' or you will lose your money in the long run. As most addicts do, you can't do it in a full stop, so it's understandable that you will still gamble no matter what, but try to do it less frequently and you'd be surprised about the results after a few months.

Professional and family help is the only way that you can overcome gambling if a guy is too deep into gambling, he cannot do it by himself, there's too much addiction, and the temptation is too huge to ignore, only a professional can set up a guideline and method, where he gives it in a patient to patient.

professional psychologists might be able to help because in my opinion those who are addicted to it are very badly like they can't control their mentality
so they really really need to fix their maindset fan back to normal

Professional Psychologist are only important if the person is not doing right and unstoppable. But if being addictive is just that he always have losses and can control his body. The only way to that if you're normal person is to discipline yourself and stop. If you really want to stop then you should do something about. There is no other person who can teach how to stop but yourself. Doing it minimally will help you to stop gambling day-by-day. When it is still early, try practice it and keep your money for yourself and for your family.
Psychiatrist and psychologist are just giving you an order that you have to follow like a different routine to mislead your attention or a diversion so that your main attention in gambling will be channeled to others. But if the person is not willing to follow those precaution then it is still useless and they really need someone or something to control their addiction.

^ Probably once you are in critical condition, rehabilitation is a good place for you to fully stop your attention in gambling and something divert into other activity just like playing sports games. Mental illness due to addiction is gambling takes time to cure, not just only months will spend and probably it takes years before they consider that you won't back again in gambling. Nevertheless, there's no other than who can control your self while you are not addicted and something while it is an early stage that might be curable. Be responsible for our selves and think before we act.

The first thing to do to eliminate our desire to gamble is to ask ourselves this question;

''Why am I gambling?''

If the answer to this question is to make money, the situation is very bad because in response to this answer it is not possible to reduce or completely eliminate gambling. But if the answer to this question is just to have fun, then you can give up this fun and you can gradually lose your gambling habit.

Sometimes questioning ourselves and accepting that we're wrong is really need to let us get away in a problem we are engaging. Once we didn't let ourselves accept that we're wrong and we put other excuses that worsen the situation. We should convince ourselves and all things will be in a right path.

Self control is the basic things which needs to be developed over a time so that you can control and stop it when required . Another thing is that just dedicate limited money for this cricket so that once it’s over you would not play with more as limit is over .

I believe that if a person has a gambling addiction, then it is obvious that he has psychological problems originating from deep childhood.
These are shortages that a person is trying to compensate for his whole life in one way or another, unconsciously. All you need is to find a very good psychotherapist and heal these psychological injuries.

Overcoming your addiction in gambling is really easy to say but hard to do because it is hard to stay away in gambling if you always wanted to earn easy money with it. But in my own opinion, the first thing that you need to do to overcome your addiction in gambling is by staying away or avoid invites to your family or friends as soon as possible, second always give your savings to one of your family member like your wife, so that you can't spend anything, and lastly focus on other things for you to forget gambling like playing mobile games and trading with crypto.

I think it is impossible to heal gambling addiction because a person who is involved in gambling addiction, he do not listen to anyone advises. The best way to stop a person from doing gambling is to limit his money and remove his access to the money. With no or less money, he will not be able to do gambling and with passage of time his gambling addiction will be reduced.

They don't have to do that really.  All they just need is to channel their excitement to gambling to something else maybe a job. How old are these guys who had gambling problems anyway?  Gambling can be avoided especially if they are monitored by their big sister or brother.

If they are 18 and above, they can certainly find ways to look the other way when chips are in front of them.

Overcoming an addiction becomes hard when you think you can't do it even you don't do a thing about it, before you complain, do something about it, start it and then figure it our by yourself if it's really hard or it's just your brain telling lies. Of course you also need help of someone professional who could help you to overcome your addiction step by step to make it more successful, taking shortcuts doesn't count.

And last but not the least, your willpower is needed for this process, if you're always going to be negative about everything, then I am sure you can't really overcome your addiction.

If it's heavy addiction professional helps will assist the person to balance his mindsets, the help of proper diet and routine will regain or renew
the original attitude of a person. Psychotherapist is very effective when there's a in-balance with people attitudes. They'll be able to cater this

It's really hard specially if the person is not acknowledging his gambling addiction until it's too late. He is knee deep and can't get out by himself. That's why I believed that family needs to support them to snap out of his bad habits.

I overcome it when I lost my job, obviously, I don't have the means to continue to gamble and then I realised that I was becoming a statistics. So once I got up and recover, I never look back, I just play occasionally and just bring money that I can afford to lose and have some fun.

Quitting in gambling is really hard if you are too attached to it like making it as part of your everyday life.
Prevention is always better than cure, so if you find yourself in a situation where it's hard to turn your back.
A rehabilitation center is the last place they might want to go if all of the available remedies won't work on them.

When you come to those levels of addiction the only way to overcome the addiction is to get professional help, an addicted person by its own will find impossible to solve his issues and while his family will be needed in the process to get his life back in track again they do not have the necessary skills to help a person that has reached rock bottom, also it is important to talk to people that have gone through the same and that have overcame their addiction problem that way you can show the addicted that it is possible to recover.

For gamblers that is not very much addicted in gambling can help themselves. Try to check this site ( https://www.helpguide.org/articles/addictions/gambling-addiction-and-problem-gambling.htm )and you may find a way to overcome such addiction in gambling but if the addiction is worst the best way is the first one "finding a psychotherapist"

Most people think that breaking away from addictions in gambling is pretty much impossible, however, in my view it all depends on self-control and knowing the right time to stop and have clear intentions like knowing how much you can lose. And stay away from the gambling environment or anything related to gambling and move on to positive activities and if you want to play gambling, then you should be able to avoid it firmly and there are many other ways to have fun like getting involved in sports

Take a vacation instead of gambling if you want to overcome it and do it during the weekends or every rest day. This will create you another habit which can make you forget that you have a gambling addiction if you really want to overcome it.

And if this becomes your hobby, you will have a set of good new adventures by travelling. The budget that you will allocate in gambling will now be your travelling funds and you will have no regrets with the expenses there because you're also seeing different places.

View the purpso ef gambling differently.

Don't look at it as a way to make money, but rather, a way to entertain yourself at a cost. Just like going to any other events, you need to pay a price to be entertained. In gambling, that price is the house edge, which keeps your expected value of bets negative in the long run.

Also, think of the fact that there is no strategy to beat the house. The only strategy that can beat the house assumes an infinite bankroll, which is impossible. I see way too many people on dice chats asking for strats, when they don't help at all. All they can possibly do is make your funds last longer, but at the end of the day it's still -ev.

gambling addiction will be easily cured if the person has a strong desire to change from himself..  in another thread, I have told the story of my past who was a heavy gambler who forgot time and sold a few things at home, then I changed because I got married (I didn't stop gambling completely, only reduced it)

but if the family can't change the addict, I think there are 2 ways which the family can try, that is to get closer to religion or bring the addict to hypnotherapy.

One who is addicted first of all will never hear anyone's words. It is the situation that has made a change in you. If you aren't into such situations surely you could've experienced the addiction for a long. Until and unless a person himself decides, it is impossible to get out of addiction. Getting close to religion should not happen forcefully.

Getting professional help, and finding a new replacement for their yearning to gambling is the best course, people gambling because they want to direct their motivation to something interesting, they did not gamble out of curiosity, but they want to release an inner yearning for interest, if a professional can replace that, it will be good for the gambler.

After knowing what triggers them to gamble, it will always be the same after that, they still needed someone to be there with them. They should be able to have an alternative way to kill time and gambling should be out of those choices. The time that he feels alone, that time that he feels free and can do anything even in a slight time, their mind will go back to gambling again.

Precisely, but at least, if we really care with him, we need to talk with him personally. If we can show our express that we really want to help him, in the end, he will accept us what our means. Sometimes we need to touch him deeply in his heart, so he knows that finally, someone wants to help him. That will need time before he realizes, but that is worth to try because we need to find the right time so we can get close to him and talk privately.

Overcoming gambling addicted can be very had most especially that you've lost almost everything already. In most cases, they become very addicted and won't stop at nothing until they recover their losses and the wort part is that they will still lose and as a result, lost everything. I think the best thing to do is seek professional help or rehabilitate your uncle because if he is already addicted your advises will be useless.

On those situations that an addicted person would be more addicted was due to despair, and this is a serious issue on the emotional side of a person. It needs self rehabilitation in which a family is needed to be with him on times of crucial and uncontrollable gambling. In order for him to overcome, taking vacation or trainings in financial litteracy should be taken diversion just to eliminate the spare time intended for gambling.

your body is not looking for gambling unlike addiction in drugs or cigars, so anyone can stop abruptly, and stay away in gambling,.. in the end, people just need an inspiration to change and be cured from this kind of disease.

I'm sorry for your uncle. I'm a bit curious how he or his addiction ended up. How is he now? Does he have a family? The worst effect is definitely not only affecting the gambler himself but also his immediate family. For sure, an addiction reaching a stage like that is damaging to everyone around him.

That is true that it is easier said than done. But you really need to look for that thing that totally distracts you from gambling. With the help of your family and friends, I guess that can be addressed for as long as it is not yet at a worst stage.

Controlling gambling involves more of emotional maturity. Gambling addiction is a product of the habit uncontrolled from the early stage. To control addiction, research analyzed that you ignore the act 21 times and it will be over. For this to be possible it involves discipline. And inability to caution one's self is a clear sign of immaturity.it may be difficult to say here that some of those addictions could be spiritual too, and needs prayer.

I had a friend who was too addicted in gambling as high as he sold one of his restaurants and lost almost half of that money. Fortunately, his family got to know about this and we all helped him come over it. It was not easy and sometimes he did gambled but not for much money. I think anything which turns to addiction is not good.

Another thing is the willingness of the gambler himself.

We can't force a gambler to just stop his addiction, he needs to admit that he himself is addicted to gambling. Without him knowing, he will not be eager to fix his problem. He should know his problem so he can also push himself to be better.

This could be incorporated to other addicted things we do, in such a case that for me, I've been addicted to playing onkine games in a sense that I missed to eat in a right time, spent most of my money in comouter shops, but I found out that some recreational activities could possibly divert my attention to spend less time in gaming.

So in crypto gambling, we could aldo do it in a way that we spend allot of time in trading rather than betting.

is it possible for someone to become aware of addiction after experiencing something very bitter like something bad happened because of his doing? he should be able to realize himself because the true desire to recover from addiction is in us. but of course the guidance is necessary, but all back to him whether he has a very strong intention to change.

I had a friend who was too addicted in gambling as high as he sold one of his restaurants and lost almost half of that money. Fortunately, his family got to know about this and we all helped him come over it. It was not easy and sometimes he did gambled but not for much money. I think anything which turns to addiction is not good.

If you have an addiction it's hard to stop even I have read some news about addiction in gambling on spending money around $70k he did not realize that that much money had been used up by gambling.
But we must be able to control our emotions when gambling and also do not be happy playing gambling because if it is often or every day can become addicted because it is difficult to stop.

If you are deeply addicted you need help from your family and professional, I'm not that really addicted I can always find a way to not play even if I have money to play, there's a lot of things to do in life besides gambling, I only gamble at spare time and if time permit me.
Personal aid would be a great help in order to overcome something but sometimes we do need  professional help for us to achieve such. Addiction is really a serious thing, therefore we should give caution to other people before they become addicted into something especially in such activity as gambling in which many people are being too interested because money and profit is involved. At the end of the day, it is really ourselves who would be the biggest help in order to overcome addiction.

I don't think that overcoming gambling addiction is that easy especially if your body is always finding it.

Gambling addiction is very hard to overcome for some reasons. Your mind always says that you must gamble whatever happens everyday. Curiosity is one reason why people are getting addicted into gambling. Their playful minds are thinking that they must try gamble until such time that they will get addicted into it.

Aside from that, desire is another one. They are desire to win money in a short amount of time until the time will come that they will get addicted. Revenge is another. Gamblers who are losing everyday will try to get their money back until the time they are addicted.

How to overcome this? For me, the gambler who is addicted must seek help from other people like the experts and his family. They will be a great help for him. One way that I see too is that don't give him money at all :D.

it all depends on the level of addiction. Are they too bad? maybe it's true that they have to go to a therapist because it has entered their subconscious mind and has to change mindset to stop gambling. and this is the most important thing, find out what triggers made him gamble? and try to overcome it without gambling.

That is the thing.

He may realize that, in my case I did, that is why I agreed on going to therapies, I promise to be in the house after my job and be with my wife's side at weekends. It is tough, I cried every night regretting those money wasted in my addiction. Though, I have my wife comforting me, she helped me a lot.

Your uncle has a deep addiction and only professional help can map out a plan to get rid of that problem, although costly, he must be under the care of a professional help, or he will eventually ruin himself and his family, and he might go crazy I read stories of people losing their minds because of gambling.

I don't think that overcoming gambling addiction is that easy especially if your body is always finding it.

It always start with mind conditioning, if a person already condition his mind in gambling, the body will follow.

I remember my grandpa who is old enough and he is not really feeling most of the time, but comes Sunday as his schedule for cock fighting, he will then feel so healthy like he is still at his young age, .. that's how gamblers feel, and some does not even play sleepy when playing cards because of the excitement and fun they are getting.

You should think yourself to be small because you cried. You cried because you are human and because you care for your family. It is important to realize what is important your family or your endless desire to make money? Just remember that during our lives the first one is always more important and what makes a human happy even if their total income is small.

With gambling going out of control one should think of their family and decide twice whether they should gamble or save up the money.

Think of how much bad they would feel if you lost money and would not be able to feed them. It takes time but gradually you gain control over your mind and body.

Honestly, best case would probably be to have people that count on you and thinking about what you are doing to them. Professional help will take you so far but if you have absolutely nothing that ties you down to this world you may go back to gambling in the end.

I found being married humbled me down a lot and I learned what humility is, that is why now I either do not gamble at all some times when finance doesn't permit, or even if I have enough money I only gamble within my limits, all thanks to my responsibility towards my wife and not spending the money I could spend on her. You can do stuff for your house and your lives together with that money instead of gambling, considering "house always wins", why wouldn't that house should be mine and my wives by way of not gambling at all.

I could say I was also a gambling addict, from using money from my work salary, borrowing money, I also had to sell some gadgets, laptops, and other stuff. But now I can overcome that by controlling my emotions and no longer borrowing money and selling things to play gambling. Also, reduce my gambling activities.

Well, it is really hard. My family suffered enough, and they are the reason I stopped my addiction. I did not complete my sessions, though I can control myself in gambling. I still gamble to be honest but I know now when to stop. My priority is my family, my wife that took care of me and will take care of me in the future.

Agree it's easy to say but it's hard to overcome addiction in gambling. I don't know if there's someone who can overcome gambling addiction on their own. But this is my own version on how to control myself. When I lose the bitcoin deposited in my account, I'll stop betting and control myself not to deposit again.

I just quit smoking, and after that i found out that in the similar fashion, it's easier for me to control other things too. Like in gambling, i am putting high restrictions to myself in what i can do and what i can't. It feels like i am in control again in everything. All it took was i had to take a control back on something i thought was really hard. Now i want to take a control back on my other addictions as well.

Agree, I think gambling addiction could easily be stopped if you restrict your self and discipline your self. Sometimes we are just letting our self in it that's why we continue to be addicted in gambling but if you made a complete decision I think you could easily stop it. A lot of people will say that it's not easy because it is an addiction but I think you just need to surrender it.

Yeah, I think as you get more mature as an adult you are starting to think about the future and become responsible for your family with that you could easily stop your habit or addiction to gambling.

It's been a lot like that in my area there is also someone who is addicted to gambling to spend everything and sell some of the assets of people without him knowing it, can be called gambling is very cruel if it is already addicted because they will do whatever it takes so that he gets money to gamble.

A progress is still a progress, I salute you for lessening your addiction in gambling, you might overcome it totally if you will continue to dedicate yourself in quitting gambling, instead of still playing gambling, though you reduce your activities on it, as you said, try something that is not like gambling at all, because there is still a chance that your addiction would come back at you running fast if you build up too much confidence in gambling by winning big on it.

Why not try to travel with your friends, family, or even yourself, go out of town and disconnect to the gambling world for a bit, maybe you'll realized something.

Good to see that our Family is helpful in stopping something which is Hagel for us so to avoid addiction I use to spend time with my friends and I play with kids that bring me happiness and gamble only when I want to make money with it otherwise I avoid going casino and don’t want to be addicted in gambling as I saw so many people being poor because of this addiction.

Yeah right, there's people who will do everything just to please this kind of vice to the point that they've willing to do bad things or illegal things
to keep ongoing and play. Overcoming this kind of mentalities already need to have some help from families and friends or if possible with expert

not only killing time mate but also Buddy's that can be with them for those time they are struggling to win over gambling because this is not that easy as we say, because the eagerness to play and bet is always there and we alone cannot win this, but with people who can be with us and divert our mind into good things aside from winning money(or losing much better to say)i have known some people that forget addiction because of their family who does not leave them in times of trouble and always guides them towards reality that in gambling there is always one winner and that is the house.

Another thing is the willingness of the gambler himself.

We can't force a gambler to just stop his addiction, he needs to admit that he himself is addicted to gambling. Without him knowing, he will not be eager to fix his problem. He should know his problem so he can also push himself to be better.
Right in gambling we can not force anyone to gamble or to stop gambling because they might consider as hater or jealous person so keep trying to convince a gambler not to be addicted but it’s totally in gamblers own hands that’s why we should gamble in free time only and when realise we are getting addicted try to stop it and spend time with your family.

But it was just my pass time for most of the time no one influence me to play this I just play gambling because I want to earn a profit. But selling all your wealth just to gamble it is already a thing for addicted gamblers. They all wanted to change and undo their addiction but they just always getting carried by their emotions. You could always focus on other thing if you have other responsibility or priority this gambling addiction could easily be forgotten slowly and by practices step by step.

I guess that is happening in many countries too. Many people don't know how to overcome gambling addiction until they can find someone that they can share their experience in gambling. They can ask help from other people to solve their problems while they can learn about controlling themselves in gambling. But selling everything to just playing gambling is not solve the problem, but it will add more problems to that person, so in this case, you need to have control for yourself.

We cannot we can only ask for help, there's always a denial stage, but once you realized that you are very much hooked on gambling, you have to do something on this, or you will be in a quicksand until everything is late, your family is your biggest foundation, they should be the one to help you out on this.

Or sometimes somebody needs a situation that will finally change his mindset towards gambling, and most of the time it is the worst situation in his life. It is him alone that can change his path and truly change for the better. If you are a gambling addict that wanted to change your life, I guess professional help is one of the best options to look at. And also, contemplate on the real reason why you are having that kind of life, address the root cause of it and understand yourself. Admit that you have a problem and needs help in changing your lifestyle.

personally I have never met an addicted person like you tell it (your uncle). all I know is that my friend is addicted to gambling and he just forgets to take time for family and often gets angry when he loses but my friend can still be told and can control emotions in other words the type of addiction is different from your uncle.
I myself also feel addicted to gambling but I never think about selling goods or debt, everything is still under control.
if the addiction can not be stopped, then the way I overcome it is by proposing rehabilitation to a psychologist.

I'm a moderate gambler, I have not experienced any issue on how I gamble, I can only recommend a psychologist who specialize in human behavior to address the issue of excessive gambling, gambling addiction is mental disorder must be healed because it can ruin a man's life and that includes his family, it can lead to suicide if it is treated the earliest possible time.

What if time comes and we don't have families to rely on? With that, I probably think that the most effective way to overcome our addiction is to spend time with people who really doesn't play gambling until we totally help ourselves to limit our gaming rate per day. But it is impossible if it was online because no person would have an idea that we're playing, so with this, we should learn to do other things such as trading cryptocurrency, which also involves risk, but definitely lowered down the risk that we need to take in order to make a profit. In addition, it is somehow controllable (profits) unlike gambling where you definitely have no idea if you will win or not.

Application, willingness and will power is a must if someone wants to overcome gambling addiction.

Easy to say isn't it but if there's no application and there's no action being done, forget about the goal of overcoming the addiction. You actually don't have to quit, you just have to minimize and reduce the exerted time.

Good point, the only person who can truly self the addicted gambler is themselves, no matter what you do, what advice you give them, they will not appreciate it or they won't care so long as they themselves don't want to quit for good. Addiction is all in the mind, if you have strong mind and strong control over yourself then you will not end up being addicted.

I agree that each individual's psychology will be the best medicine for the complete treatment of gambling addiction, although everyone's advice is quite helpful and gets straight to the point but most of these tips only come from people who aren't addicted to gambling, and when we're not in someone's situation, don't understand their mood, that advice would never be helpful and ingrained in their minds. Another problem, even if we have a strong mentality, don't let this arrogance ruin our lives, so many confident people have fallen into gambling addiction.

I don't about that since addiction is not that easy. If they can stop it by themselves, I can day thay it is not really an addiction but something like a vice or a past time. If he is really addicted to it, I don't think he can do it in his own. Its been years but I still can't stop gambling, though I can control myself now, I still can't stop gambling.

In the world of gambling, we all know that it is easy to earn money because of having excellent skills and knowledge in different games. But the main problem is it is too hard to leave the world of gambling even we already lose a lot of money, the reason why because it satisfies our desire to play the game and to earn money. Sometimes if we already win a game, our passion wants to play more because we know we can get more profit. On the other time, we will experience losing money, and then we want to play again to get back our money with or without profit. Always be conscious of what you are doing in gambling because you need to control your self to avoid loss of money and also having a massive amount of debt because of our desire to play a game if you want to play just set an amount of money that you can use to play.

Well, I am not very sure if this will be effective but I think you should let totally get out from it, leave all behind what you have in gambling and don't ever play again.  I know it seems impossible but you can make it feasible through the help of your family. I doubt that you can manage it alone, diverting your attention to something else by yourself would not totally get you out from it because I do believe it is a human nature that once a person devotes himself to something he wanted to do it would be impossible for him to quit. Thus, support from his family would be essential to move out this harmful iniquity.

If he is really addicted to it, I don't think he can do it in his own. Its been years but I still can't stop gambling, though I can control myself now, I still can't stop gambling.
For me, there's a different kind of people that handle addiction on different way, just like what you said; You can control yourself but you can't stop gambling. Well, it's become nature for you for sure to gamble especially you have extra money.
But just like what OP said, the gambler who become addicted was selling some things to just able to gamble and achieve his/her gambling pleasure, that's kinda scary.
Well, it's good for your you can control yourself.

Application, willingness and will power is a must if someone wants to overcome gambling addiction.

Easy to say isn't it but if there's no application and there's no action being done, forget about the goal of overcoming the addiction. You actually don't have to quit, you just have to minimize and reduce the exerted time.

If you will only reduce the exerted time you put when playing in gambling, then how could you say you overcome your addiction, this will only become "minimizing your addiction", if I'm not mistaken, and then what, after a while, you're going to berserk again in gambling when addiction kicks in because your body misses the feeling of it. Minimizing will not be able to help you to overcome your addiction, just quit it completely by distracting yourself whenever you have the urge in playing gambling again.

Well, sounds familiar to me. Not just only PUBG also we can make good odds in CSGO and that was very common here in our place.
There's an internet shop who had always conducting tournament on that game, so, if your self diverting to another activity that might you forget gambling addiction much better to overcome. But if you are not alone, for sure there will someone else willing to help you and cure you of that miserable level of life.

Unfortunately, everyone is searching for the easiest way to get a lot of profit in a short term ( easy money ) and of course that gambling is the one of the worst fields that leads to a massive and contunies addiction.
So how to overcome this addiction?
Simply, we need to change the way of thinking especially when we are in trouble. I see that your uncle has a positive thoughts in gambling, that is the issue despite he literally
lost a lot of money. Otherwise, try always to anlyze your situation in different ways ( postive and negative ) and then make a comparison after that you will probably take the right decision.
