Title: Poll - How did you find out about Bitcointalk?
Post by: DdmrDdmr on January 22, 2020, 07:32:19 AM
Without going into the motives behind joining Bitcointalk, I was wondering how people’s first point of contact with the forum was made. Now we may need to jog the memory here a bit, although Beginners & Help tends to have newer profiles around, making the memory lane easier to walk.

If I recall correctly, I reached the forum at the time when searching for information on Bitcoin. I probably performed a Google search for "Bitcoin forum" and made it here through one of the results that popped-up.

What was the reference driver (source, not motive) that drove you to Bitcointalk?

What do you want to know when you first hear bitcoin? How to earn bitcoin of course  :).

And then I searched it on a search engine. Voila, I found out there are 4 ways to earn bitcoin from some articles that I read.
1. Faucet (very popular at the time when I searched this).
2. Trading
3. Mining
4. Signature Campaign

And then I was researching for these 4 options, and when I went for the 4th option which is the signature campaign, I found this forum  :)

It's close between friend and social media. I was introduced to airdrops/bounties thru social media and it was the main reason why I created an account here but the first time I heard about bitcoin was thru a friend. That was before I started joining airdrops/bounties. I just can't remember if she ever mentioned about bitcointalk. I voted for friend anyway, there's no bitcointalk without bitcoin.

I got to know about Bitcoin from my friends and I learned about this forum from social media.
At first I know about this forum from various ico project ads on social media,
Most of the ico project's are posted their Announcement thread on forum, I used to read the Announcement threads thus slowly I became a member of the forum.

I remember also that I was searching on Google information about Bitcoin, about mining, about cryptography... One of the links led me here. since then, I never left, although I made the account much later from the moment I found about the forum. I think 1-2 years I used it without being registered.

Honestly, I really do not have any interest in bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency before, until one time I saw that one of my friends is getting richer and richer that comes to a point that he is able to afford expensive gadgets.

I wonder and ask him of what he is doing in order to make money online then he recommended this website. From that time, I began to take interest in the crypto world and eventually join useless bounties that take my precious time away :(. (Of course not until now)

Hell yeah, I think I found this website because of envy that I feel towards my crypto rich friend. SAD :(

I probably performed a Google search for "Bitcoin forum" and made it here through one of the results that popped-up.

It was pretty much the same with me when I was first looking into what bitcoin is. If I remember correctly, the "other bitcoin forum" came out higher on the Google search results back in the day hence I joined that first, also thinking that it was the "official" bitcoin forum lmao. I then realized after a while that Bitcointalk was far more active.

While learning about crypto I do remember that google use to show the links of bitcointalk to read but, I had not clicked to me initially that the platform was this worth. Then when we meet common friends and they also mentioned about it and then I asked them more about it.

You probably wanted to add some local rule that more or less says "If your reason is not stated on the poll options or others, please describe it by posting there. Otherwise, just select one of the available options to prevent spams etc".

When I was searching for some crypto-related query on the search engine, there were many bitcointalk topics related to that query. I landed up in Bitcointalk like this. I got inspired by the answers given by the members of the forum. Later I also opened an account on Bitcointalk and started sharing my knowledge and also I have learned many things from here.

The sample results are very small in the poll so far, and cannot in any case be conclusive of facts, but seeing "search engine" being the first current poll runner, reminds me that SEM/SEO is important in the forum’s placement and traffic generation. That not only has an English reading, but also in every single language that has a local board (/thread) on the forum.

For example, if I search on google.es for "foro bitcoin" (bitcoin forum), the first direct link to Bitcointalk appears on position number 17 (second page of search results). If I simply search for the term "Bitcoin" on the same search engine domain, I did not find a direct link to Bitcointalk within the first 18 (default) pages of results. Ok the term does have a very broad set of information out there, and paid ads and such, but I’m not convinced search results couldn’t get any better …

been a while and my memory has never fired on all cylinders anyway but..

i know i 1st heard about bitcoin in an anandtech forum post. probably just used a search engine after that.

EDIT: in 2011 (before forks and drama and such) a search for "bitcoin forum" only gave one result IIRC

I knew about the forum in 2017 when the guy I know on Facebook made his status about airdrops for old accounts. He is very famous in my local, so I created my account because of my curiosity (I knew he stated old accounts). One those days, I did not know too much about bitcoin, and crypto currency so that forum is helpful for me (I only felt it is helpful months later).

That is where I came from and joined the forum. I know you guys mostly don't want to see such boring stories but it is mine.

Probably it was on a Google search and also recommended by a friend. You know when you search a complex about bitcoin and cryptocurrency question on google and sometimes it already had a discussion here in the forum, it happened to me I forgot what is the question that I search but a bitcointalk discussion appears. I become familiar and the forum until a friend of mine recommended this site mo me since im already a bit familiar in the forum I take my friend's advice, then created a new account and then started my journey here in the forum.

Isnt this a motive and you dont have to say it because the OP has said it from the beginning. ;)

One of my friends suggested me about bitcoin in the year 2013 - 14 that it will be one of the most important revolution innovation which is going to be more bloom in the next few years but I thought that it is not going to make anything influential as he suggested but in 2017 only I realized that I did make great mistake not knowing how much change i is going to bring to the wold's economic structure.

In 2017 he itself remind me about bitcointalk to get more intensive information can be found here.

Way back last 2017 I was searching about faucets I found bitcointalk thru search engines, I was finding info about XRB faucets (now nano) I bump into bitcointalk I was just reading I didn't register yet. And then airdrop and bounties came famous I was interested and registered and that's how I started with bitcointalk. Later on, my knowledge about bitcoin grows as I read in this forum and communicate with other members it really helps me to be knowledgeable about cryptocurrency and blockchains. And I am very amazed and proud that the creator of bitcoin is the founder of this forum I am glad to be a member here.

This is probably one of the lamest stories you will hear but I actually found out Bitcoin in a Facebook group which I actually joined right after I found an article about Bitcoin being the new "gold". When I was a total newbie in Bitcoin and the whole crypto industry I got so curious that I joined a lot of crypto groups about trading and one day a famous cloud mining/hyip site, Hashocean, suddenly vanish and it got talked a lot in the group and then one of the members linked a thread in Bitcointalk. It was that one thread that actually made me curious about the site and made me interested because Bitcoin has an actual forum. Bitcointalk itself is considerably more better compared to the FB groups I have joined combined. It was more organized in a sense that I don't have to jump to different groups just to find topics and questions I want to find the answer from. Aside from that comparing BCT to the FB groups I have joined there is actually a conversation or a healthy debate going on which makes the forum more complete, unlike in the groups where you will see some "yes" and "nos" without any kind of explanation whatsoever.

Topics like these does bring out some memories 2 years back  :P I never got to know anything from my friends and all were just self taught. I first got to know about bitcoin in 2016 and never read a lot about the same until before December 2017. I just read about bitcoin in general from wikipedia somewhere around December 24, 2017 and for the second time on Christmas, when I thought of reading about bitcoin I saw a medium article which described about bitcointalk and how this forum played a role in satoshi's last messages.

The forum never made a great impact on me for the first time. On New Year 2018, I received $2 worth of BTC for buying a new mobile from a local shop! To understand about the best wallets to store my btc, I created an account here on January 2 and certainly created a topic in my local board asking about the  best wallet in the market to store my $2 btc. This is how I got to know about bitcointalk!  ;D

P.S The topic had a short span of life and was removed by MOD on Day 2 :'(

Mine wasn't a lot different than yours, DdmrDdmr.
Actually, I heard about the buzzing word 'Bcoin Bcoin', you know the accent part. Then I asked my friend what is all this about and he asked me, Google "Bitcoin". I said, "Wait! W...what? Bit...Bitcoin?" He said, "Yes, correct."
I asked him, "What is it?"
He was also not much known to it but asked me to visit a Bitcoin forum to know more about it (he didn't know the name of the forum then). I immediately took my phone in my hands to know about this new big thing I was not at all aware about, and then the second result was Bitcointalk forum, that's how I landed here.

Prior to 2018, I knew nothing about bitcoin or cryptocurrency asides the idea that it could be mined, and also never much attention to it. I got introduced to bitcoin and bitcointalk by an acquaintance/friend, just after the fall of the bull run (hard luck). I had a few stints in a couple of other cryptocurrency websites before settling on BT.
It's been a journey since then and I've introduced a couple of people personally to this forum myself.

Everyone has a dirty secret.
Here’s mine.
Yes, I am guilty: I came on Bitcointalk because I was told by a random person of an AirDrop of a shitcoin, rewarding Bitcointalk users.
I already was a bitcoin zealot at the time, and I knew about the shitcoins, forks and airdrops because they gave me the possibility to grow my bitcoin stash, as I methodically sold each one of them at the first possibility.

I casually had already encountered Bitcointalk in the past, but it never clicked to me. I was studying and learning about bitcoin with other means (websites, telegram, Reddit etc).
But when I had to write a few posts to raise a little bit my merit status (I think I had to rake 10 merits minimum to qualify to that particular AirDrop) bang! It clicked.
The rest is history.
(All the details are in my post history btw, I never deleted shameful posts).

Great thread ddmrddmr. Remembering the first days here made me realise how long the path has gone, and how much the forum has given to me during this months.

EDIT: I went down the memory road and re-read the first merited post (my third overall post- didn't remember that):
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4545628.msg40921522#msg40921522

I can say it aged well.

Despite that it happened more than 5 years ago, I still remember it perfectly. Damn, time flies so fast... I was looking for Bitcoin forum in my native language, so I entered "bitcoin forumas" in Google search. And I was disappointed about search results, because I didn't found any decent local forums about Bitcoin.
But then I noticed this topic from "Other languages and locations" in search results - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=24339.0. Unfortunately, it wasn't very active, so I started to look into other sections of Bitcointalk. I was lurking here for half year maybe without having account, until I decided to sign up. But then I didn't made any posts and forgot about account. And then I came back here after 4 or 5 months and the rest is history.

I am grateful that a friend introduces this forum because I have really gained knowledge and at the same time earning bitcoin.

What do you want to know when you first hear bitcoin? How to earn bitcoin of course  :).

First, we're glad you're here!

Second, i always find this question - how do I earn bitcoin? - an interesting one among the newest among us. Bitcoin is just currency, money! It can be earned the same as any other way people earn money. The best way to earn it is to do whatever it is you do to make money fastest/most/best and then either (1) ask to be paid in Bitcoin or (2) use that income to buy bitcoin.

I realize that people are looking for new ways to make income and some of those ways that are typical for forum sites (like signature campaigns) or bitcoin (faucets) can be come new and novel ways to make money. Explore all the options! Just know that the fastest way to earn bitcoin is to do more work at the highest rate you can get paid to work, the currency you acquire is a separate thing to decide after you get paid for your great work!

I learned about Bitcoin talk back in 2015...it's been a long time and my involvement has been greater or lesser over the years. But the conversations remain the same, always a good education.

Cheers to the newest among you, you keep the party hip!

I remember around the year 2017 which I have this random guy in one of the social media I have which we become close since he is also into Bitcoin that year and he already has an account here, don't know who he is here, but I'm really thankful for his advice about this forum.
Although I am not really into some internet forums, few forums I already joined but they are not about cryptocurrency. That time I already have some knowledge like what is thread, section or whatsoever.

At first, there is a lot of curiosity of mine in this forum because some people told me that on this forum, you can easily earn cryptocurrency like Bitcoin so I started to browse the forum and found out that there are a lot of things that other forum doesn't have like earning cryptocurrency/money while learning about Bitcoin and making conversation with other people.
But overall, a lot of new learnings I discovered on this forum.

Back to 2014. First time to know about bitcoin was by mining. A friend of mine who lives abroad, sent me mining machines and the link to preev.com and alloscomp.com in the way to calculate daily profit.
I had started mining without to know anything about bitcoin or what is a blockchain except for a wallet i had to create in coinbase to receive mined btc.
First trouble with the mining stuff, i had to deeply search about how to solve it, and at that time there wasn't enough support info till i discover this forum and was surprised how users are so kind and helpful then start my journey with bitcoin.
Back to 2017, the forum was introduced to me by one of my friends, then i found that i already had an account since 2015.
I want to thank the destinies that leaded me to discover this great community and be a part of it.

It was a friend of mine who introduced me into bitcointalk. We were just having a conversation about this new trend which is bitcoin and then suddenly, he told me about bitcointalk. He explained to me the contents of it and taught me how to make an account and earn through joining campaigns on it. Afterwards, I was able to learn and I worked hard after joining campaigns which led me to great profits and amidst the crisis on the projects nowadays, I am still continuing to pursue it cause I know things will get better soon.

Thanks for the answers so far to this topic. Keep them rolling …

Although the sample is still very small, it gives some tinglings, alongside the testimonials, on how we got to know about this forum. Interestingly enough, so far, family is a tabu way of reaching the forum (I figure that Alt Account cases belonging to "Me, Myself and I" would count as "family", but they are often seen as "friends" here - kidding). The search engine is still the prime factor, and as I stated before, I believe quite a bit could be done to get a better positioning in some contexts.

Note: I will likely not give out more sMerits on this thread. I did a mini-spree here in a honeypot attempt at serving a dual porpose: getting to know something I was curious about and likely interesting for many, and awarding a small portion of the sMerits I had (conceptually) stashed in a fair manner.

I was invited to join the forum by my colleague, who invested in bitcoin one year before me. He taught me basics about bitcoin, and told me that the forum is a best place to learn about bitcoin. After that, I created the account on November 08, 2017, 06:22:57 AM. And for the early months on the forum, I simply read.

About 2 months later, merit appeared in the forum, and I was a old-era newbie when merit system began in 2018. What happened after that is my history (see below table). It took me ~ 14 months to become a Full Member (on 21 Jan 2019) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5100172.0). One year and 3 days later, I have 1212 merits that I would have never epxected in 2019, on the day I was a Full member. The last month, more than 200 merits came to me.  ;)

When i started crypto way back in 2017 i remembered those days  i got a new android cellphone in im curious what is bitcoin all about. Because a lot of saying that bitcoin can solve your financial problem so i started to research and asking to any of my friends who are already know about bitcoin. When i'm in my research i have a lot of struggle in year 2018 i get scammed, hype, losing my little funds, etc. It's because those days i didn't even know what is bitcointalk. Until one of my friend in facebook refer me to this forum. Even if he had tell me about this forum i ignore him because i thought he was joking at me but when i ask again to other people related to this forum a lot of saying that bitcointalk forum the main source of learning about crypto. And finally i created my account a couple of months ago in i'm still in the process of learning about cryptocurrency. So i am hoping that this is the right way i'm in.

I remember as if it had been at this time, a friend, who studied with me at the University, called me on the phone saying that there was a forum that referred to everything about Bitcoin and Altcoins, (this in 2017 just when Bitcoin was running towards the trend up) where there were experts, investors and the information was level A1, I did not hesitate and came here.

I started to participate in some Altcoins Airdrops, but after reading the threads, the same forum forces us to raise the level of knowledge and a simple publication is not enough, it must be supported by arguments established in books, articles, among others. All this to raise the level, at that moment the adventure began.

Frist i introduce with this forum in Sep 2017 by my younger brother. He was introduced with this forum by one of his friend. He spent all the time here in participating bounty. It was boring for me. I also open an account in this forum in Sep 2017 but it was inactive. I activate my account this month. Now i found this forum is not only for participating bounty campaign. There are so many section like meta, beginners and help, economy and also our local board to spend time and acquire much knowledge about this forum. Now i am learning more and more day by day.

I found this forum on social media(Twitter maybe) . I got a link to the project's ann thread. But the funny thing is that this project had a Scam Accusations. And the link was on their ann thread.  ;D This is where I got introduced to the forum. I realized I could share my opinion here. I can help others. That day I created an account. I did the first post. And my first post was deleted by moderator. Then I made another one post. That post was not deleted. Since then I've slowly slowly come to this point.

One day my brother was busy browsing at bitcointalk website and at the same time busy monitoring the bitcoin chart because he is starting to learn trading by that time. At first, I wasn't that interested. But when he push me to understand well that there is actually a new technology that is existing in this era which you can actually control your own money, it hooked me. I wanted to be part of that advanced technology called, "bitcoin".

By that time, he just said I have to read some threads in bitcointalk forum if I am sincere to learn. Honestly, it is not easy to understand but if have determination, we can fully comprehend bitcoin.
Now, we are both margin traders and we share some technical analysis with each other. But I must admit, I am very grateful to him. He passes his beliefs about this kind of innovation and the determination to pass it down with our nephews and niece to continue what we believe in is what I am proud of him.

For now, we conduct seminars within the family last December, we explained bitcoin to our family members.
That's how I have started here.

Almost same, though there are people who already mention it to me but I don't really give a damn, then eventually I search something about bitcoin wallet and I see it and bounties about some wallet too.

It was on January 2018 that he introduced bitcointalk.org forum to my sister, my brother and myself as well that is why my bitcointalk.org account creation is January 21, 2018. Directly found bitcointalk forum because of my brother-in-law. Submitted my vote (Relative : Family).

If Im not mistaken I saw it in a local forum site in our country when I was searching for extra online income opportunity and I saw a thread regarding bitcoin and I got curious since the exchange rate is really high at that time I think 1 btc = $300 but the thread starter to that forum never talked about this forum bitcointalk then I search on google about bitcoin and I found this website.

Previously when I was doing freelancing for adding airdrops while adding on their site for example Coin airdrops. I found one step was there where it was mentioned that there is a need to mention site name to Bitcointalk link. This made me curious about bitcointalk, I thought what is this link that is so important. Then I searched for bitcoin talk for more details in google and navigated to bitcointalk.org and I have started reading it from that time onwards I have never left this forum always feel like it is a very good community to gain some knowledge.

It was a friend who introduced me to bitcointalk. The one who also introduced me about cryptocurrency. At first I really have no idea what cryptocurrency is and even its existence. But when a friend of mine told me about cryptocurrency and blockchain I was still confused because it's not easy to understand at first so he told me about this forum. He told me to read some threads in order to learn something even the basic one.

How I am here?

I knew about bitcoin first, then the second one is Ethereum. I search (by Google, thanks for it) with Ethereum and Vitalik Buterin, and results of the search led me here, bitcointalk.org. I did not have any aims when I participated in the forum. At my first glance in the forum, and my first impression, the forum is very boring, texts, texts and texts, mostly texts. And the forum was abundant with thanks, hi, hello, one line posts some months since the day I participated in the forum. After some months, I realized that it was only short term shitshows as a consequence of altcoin booms in 2017.

Now, I am being here as a Senior member, with all of my 421 merits are earned by myself. (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5179460.0)

Thanks for the forum, the community, available topics, answers to my questions, and all admins, moderators, patrollers, you all helped me to get a lot of knowledge in crypto as well as security and privacy, that I believe I hardly get on any other forums.

For my story, airdrop campaigns brought me here. Almost all campaigns back in 2017 would require airdrop hunters to visit their bitcointalk thread and make constructive comment IIRC. Given that many of us were new back then, the constructive comments were more like spams  :D It was not the best way to start but we all learn.

I have been reading the comments and noticed two different reasons from the same account.

How I am here?

I knew about the forum in 2017 when the guy I know on Facebook made his status about airdrops for old accounts. He is very famous in my local, so I created my account because of my curiosity (I knew he stated old accounts). One those days, I did not know too much about bitcoin, and crypto currency so that forum is helpful for me (I only felt it is helpful months later).

That is where I came from and joined the forum. I know you guys mostly don't want to see such boring stories but it is mine.

That was the first time I heard of bitcoin, a friend of mine introduced me to bitcoin and bitcointalk.
At that time I was very curious about bitcoin so I decided to learn about bitcoin and the best place to learn about bitcoin at that time was the bitcointalk forum.
At that time, I had made a large amount of bitcoins, but I could not keep the patience and sold them, if I could keep that amount of bitcoins until 2017, it would certainly be different.

That's like the opposite to me. I'm quite reserved to most of the people. Especially, over the years I've had people be rather hostile towards Bitcoin or not understanding that its an actual currency, and not "play" money. I do talk about it, but it usually means that they have taken an interest, and not just me ramming it down their throats.

I really want to be an advocate to Bitcoin publicly, but I think I think when you get questioned by friends, and possibly family members it can be quite the deterrent. There's many reasons why people find Bitcoin, but I'd like to think that its because they are sick, and tired of the traditional currencies, and the systems which thrive in these environments (banking systems).

I met Bitcointalk in a peculiar way, I was on the computer one day looking for movies to watch, at that time the movie did not want to download, while I waited I bothered to read a minichat that was on that site (I don't remember the page) and they talked On cryptocurrencies, I had previously seen publicity about rewards paid in bitcoin but at that time I was almost sure it was just a scam.

When I saw what they were talking about in that minichat it started to intrigue me, especially when they tallked about airdrops, then I looked for a little more information and that's when I learned about fauset and mining, at first I was very attracted to be able to mine but The mining equipment is expensive and consumes a lot of electricity, so I opted for the fausets, but I realized that they paid very little, one of which has always been the most famous is "FreeBitcoin" is to claim a small amount of satoshis every 60 minutes.
Finally, I remember that although I put a coinbase address, nothing deposit to me, so I got a little disappointed and left it for 5 months, until I saw advertising of an airdrop on Facebook, I contacted the user and told him that I want to participate in a airdrop, it's called "DeepOnion" I registered and participated in the project. It is known that to register in that forum a BitcoinTalk ID is necessary, then that's how I met bitcointalk.

What happened later? Deeponion breached rules in Bitcointalk time later, it should be noted that that time I dedicated myself to something else and removed the signature, now I participated again in this forum with the intention of knowing more about Bitcoin, last year was a year of correction for Bitcoin, this year I see positive behaviors that will be reflected in the Altcoins.

It almost certainly would've been a search engine.

Considering this site's place in history it's pretty weird how rarely it's cited or referred to elsewhere. I've hardly ever seen it mentioned in any mainstream media, apart from Ross Ulbricht fucking up here and pizzas, and not all that often in the crypto 'press' either.

If I recall correctly, I reached the forum at the time when searching for information on Bitcoin. I probably performed a Google search for "Bitcoin forum" and made it here through one of the results that popped-up.
What was the reference driver (source, not motive) that drove you to Bitcointalk?
I have the same experience as most of the users here.

I find out Bitcointalk with the help of my friend which is using Bitcointalk already for almost a year at the time he introduces it to me. When I first time to hear this site I didn't think twice but I registered here immediately as he stated that I can learn something regarding money here. He didn't share that this is new kind of money. I asked some basics of how to learn here etc. and after few months, I have learned the basics of cryptocurrency and as of this moment, my knowledge is still increasing but I don't want to learn the complex side of Bitcoin :D. I'm enough with the basics already.

At first, I thought it was a game credit or something that they are earning but in reality it is actually real money but a digital one. They actually taught me how to create my own account in this forum and they teached me how to join a particular signature in which you can earn money by promoting that particular signature campaign but also depending on how the campaign runs, if that becomes successful or not. They are paying you their tokens they selling or in btc. It is actually o good privelege to know this and a good opportunity since I am still a student and I have not work to support my studies but now I can somehow support my financial needs. During my college life on that day when I was in school, people are talking about Bitcoin and say they will earn profit and now I am looking it into the internet until it will lead me here in the forum.

Indeed, I am happy to see that this forum is not only for English posters. I found out that you can also post through your local language on a local board. I am joining bounty at that time because that was very profitable back then even joining airdrop you can buy cases of beer. :D

I was looking for ways to make money and not just that but to be paid. I didn't have a way to get the money and I couldn't buy things online since I have no credit card and see don't. I don't want one since I don't want to be in debt. I wanted to use PayPal but they have so many rules and it was difficult to get the bank connected also I have no credit card for that either.

Bitcoin solved this and I was able to work and buy things online. I found out about bitcoin on the emoney forum I think. I still sometimes go there.

I find it in the web when searching on different gambling sites.

I stumbled when I read an article about gambling site accepting crypto which is way easier compared to the payment method I used in the past, once I am already using crypto for gambling, I then search for a forum and lucky to have found this big community where there are also people in the Philippines that time, I tried to explore the forum and the first opportunity I found is the Ponzi scheme, actually I thought it would help me financially because the return is good, but I was just scam, but good thing I was able to move on from that scam, and it gives me a lesson not to invest on a kind of platform that offers a reward that is good to be true.

sorry, I think I have told my story very detailed.. then...... I found that signature campaign gives free btc, I joined, until I was educated with altcoins and trying to participate in bounty and invested some, when I found that, it really change my life because I am one of the beneficiary of the 2017 and early 2018 bull run, and I am so thankful of all my experience in the crypto space, especially this

BITCOINTALK FORUM as it introduces me to everything I learn and have now.

It was my friend's recommendation. But before that, I was trying to find a decent income somewhere and our prof couldn't help but to refer a platform like solving thousands of CAPTCHA. It had been several months when we decided to take our supposedly money but unfortunately the platform itself asked some requirements we couldn't provide. However, luckily one of my friend/classmate knew bct, he then told us about but no one did dare to try except me and my classmate. Well, I knew bitcoin itself as I had read it somewhere in facebook like deepweb stuff, silkroad, and so on. I ain't know nothing about this platform but the one who recommend this to me guide me all through out till I became a jr. member here, and let me do the thing I supposed to do.

Using search engine Google, I still remember it since Ive joined during Halloween date. My friend told me that If I was looking for a good ways to ear is join that forum. He said a lots of giveaway called airdrop has been shared.

First, I really dont have any clue but the keyword bitcointalk.org already give me hint about cryptocurrency. I already have knowledge before I register but still not enough. At first, I am very fond of looking for those money makers. Never noticed a lot of boards aside from the Altcoin Bounty Section. But Ive noticed that as time pass by I become focus only to these kind of activity. Just recently I started to begin my goal to learn and somehow I realize that there is much to know and that rewards I ripping was just a bonus to the knowledge I acquired by participating on discussion. So I'm thankful up to now that I am here and continuously learning and giving also some of what I learnt so far.

The market price of bitcoin starting to be trendy because of the increasing market price of bitcoin in the market. So I started investing in the bitcoin because of this hype with my learnings on the internet I but bitcoin in a bitcoin wallet and thing go pretty well because the market price just continues to increases.

That I want to earn a lot of bitcoin and search for a way on the internet that I could find, I end up becoming interested in bitcoin mining. My story of discovering Bitcointalk is very interesting. I was looking for online jobs and work and find out about bitcoins. I started searching more about this new currency and found out that we could earn through faucets. The quest to learn more about this brought me here through a google search. I made the account and from that day i can't imagine leaving this forum.

Actually I was introduced by a friend. Who only show me how to join signature campaign. As time goes on, I began to learn more about crypto through this forum which I have no knowledge about before. Albeit the initial idea was to join campaigns and make cash out of it but there's something more to it than only money.

A new thought about this topic - has anyone thought how their life might be different if they DIDN'T find Bitcointalk.org?

I found out about bitcoin elsewhere but i didn't learn about it properly until i found this forum. If I hadn't found this forum i think i'd be one of those people that's heard of cryptocurrency and paid it minimal attention. And F*CK how clueless I would have been about how much I'd missed out on.

At times i've tried to get friends or family interested. Each of them kindly listens but none of them have decided to participate. It baffles my mind, but we can lead a horse to water, we can't make it drink!

Anyone else have similar thoughts or experiences?

I'm pretty sure I already owned some before turning up here but I would've missed out on many an alt if I didn't turn up. Maybe that's a good thing. Not sure.

It's interesting seeing how many people have never turned up here. I quite often see people elsewhere on crypto sites mention they've never been here. I couldn't imagine having that little engagement or curiosity.

Ah, the nostalgic moment. I found this forum because of Claymore miner. The ETH pump and the story about making money from GPUs redirect me to the Claymore thread.

I'm a silent reader at first, then got suckered into ICO bounty and Bitcoin because of random signature, lol.

I just read through my first 5 pages of posts, and for the life of me, I can't remember how I heard about Bitcointalk! Perhaps it was mentioned on one of the bitcoin podcasts I used to listen to, probably "Let's Talk Bitcoin" or something. Most likely I found it via Google search and signed up after doing some lurking.

My first post on the forum is no clue at all -- just asking about where to find nodes for an obscure and now defunct altcoin. I remember I was so enamored with the idea that I printed a fancy, decorative paper wallet for it and kept it in my actual wallet, ready for the impending day that BonesCoin would finally be accepted at Starbucks!

Well, things haven't exactly progressed the way I once envisioned. I stopped keeping a mobile Dogecoin wallet about 2 years ago, and now do all my BTC transacting from my PC. Cryptocurrency just isn't really for brick n mortar retail spending it turns out, which is fine, as its proven to have other uses.

Actually I've just seen a few ads on the forum I used to lurk in but what really pushes me to go through was some acquaintances as well on that forum and they recommend that you'll earn money there. Honestly, that's the motivation that gets me here but as time goes by and start learning things here sometimes I put it aside from the learning I get here and one more thing this forum made my written communication with English quite improve since the set out to venture the bitcointalk space.

From the High School  time I was very interested in the internet. When I go in Intermediate life I brought a Java phone by my own earned money from agriculture work . From then I search how I can earn money from internet. Since the phone was a Java phone so it can not help to find a good results. After two years I brought an Android phone by doing tution. That time I was able to discover some works like ptc, hype, revenueshare site. But I was not able to invest any site for that I have tried to do work in PTC site.  After tried many sites One day I got a payment  maybe it was 10 cent  ;D only. I was very happy that time which  I can not share in word.

So after earning 1-2$ try to search a buyer where I can exchange the dollars with my local currency. And found a man who asking people to work with him and he will pay. He offered to do captcha works for (Past Raiblock XRB now Nano) project. Do some job he paid for that. Then where I find a buyer for only 2-5$ but he was finding buyer for exchanging 50-100$ in facebook. One day I asked him how you earn this dollars? He told me about the bitcointalk. I visited but I can not understand how this site became a source of income ?  This a simple design site. Just text and text only ;D
So stop to visit. After 2 months again asked him the source of earning. He again tell me about bitcointalk. Again I visit and try to search the way of earn. Find some works in service section which will pay 10 cent for works. From that Time I am in here.

The kind person is now a Hero Member of this forum. I wish may God bless him.

Sorry for long comments.

Wow, what a great question! I found this beautiful place through a friend. This friend kept talking about it, asking me to check it out. His enthusiasm was curious...like someone who's discovered this really cool thing and they want to share it with you.

I finally logged in, registered, etc., and now i'm so happy that i did! This forum was my first glimpse into the cryptocurrency world. I can't imagine how far out of the scene i'd be without that one friend. I haven't transacted much here but i've thoroughly enjoyed my time, the talk, the opinions and perspective of others.

Thanks to all of you for opening your world to me!

At first, it was bitcoin that was very famous back then up until our class had a discussion about gambling and my classmate dropped plenty of gambling site which are very unfamiliar to us. As our confusion rises, we began to ask him about bitcoin and how much does he get from winning in gambling and it was quite surprising. Afterwards, he told us about bitcointalk, he told us that it is where everything started from him. He told us plenty of ways on how we can benefit with oue bitcointalk accounts which led us to earn large amount of money during the peak season last 2017.

The last month, more than 200 merits came to me.  ;)

Due to the mandatory requirement to post proof of participation (authentication), I was advice by the airdrop manager to created an account on bitcointalk and drop a post on the airdrop (project) announcement thread, which I did back then in 2017 since airdrops were still hot cake and if you were passionate about it, you can easily make few bucks participating in them. So basically due to an altcoin promoting, was the reason why I opened an account on bitcointalk, I couldn't find any related option on you poll so I haven't voted. Since I wasn't contributing positively, i didn't see any reason to stay active on the forum so I became inactive for quite sometime but later regain interested after I researched on ways to make extra income as a cryptocurrency enthusiast apart from training, mining and investing.

Then, I can across the forum once again which was presented by the article as a multi-purpose forum where you can leverage on the platform to sell your services or work as a promoter of projects through signature campaign. I picked interest again, I remember opening another account before I realized I had previously opened an account on the forum and luckily I could still remember my login details, started buidling up my account after going through series of clean up and here we're today.

Unlike many people in this thread, I knew about Bitcointalk pretty late. Early 2019, I accidentally read an article about bitcoin scam on a local magazine (I didn't even know about bitcoin back then). Curiosity made me do researches about it and yet another accident, I found this forum and realized that it's the place I could find knowledge about bitcoin at the deepest, most complete level. But I was just a wanderer on this forum at first, reading only. Not until June 2019, I decided to register an account. But seemed like my fate with Bitcointalk was thin, I moved to a new place and started a new job a few months later. I was too busy getting along with new life to log in. However, things are better now. I can online 2 - 3 hours/day to join with you guys.

What was the reference driver (source, not motive) that drove you to Bitcointalk?

I am here because my friend introduced me this. He first then asked me to interact with the forum members. TBH, I don't know how this forum works back then. I was just like hanging my profile up as I though the longer you stay, the bigger you earn. But then I asked him how do people earn in here? Then he said just post with high quality construction and with a pure sense. Then that was the start I've had motivation to further learn, not the Bitcointalk and its system alone, but also how the Cryptocurrency works in every aspects of its capabilities and features.

I only know Bitcointalk is from Facebook. Some people share a airdrop but in that form, i must fill a Bitcointalk account. Then i search in youtube about what is Bitcointalk. Now, i know Bitcointalk is the place of crypto community.

Haven't known that Bitcointalk was endorsed on Facebook back then (or I'm just really that introverted person LOL). BTW, Bitcointalk isn't just a place of crypto community, by time to time it evolved onto somehow a social media that connects crypto enthusiasts and business-minded person to interact. By staying here, I've seen users whom had been friends around the world and some had arguments of numerous ideas by different users' perspectives. Therefore, this forum ends up being a superhighway of online interaction, and the boards was the cities, and us being the cars whom drives along the superhighway and somehow contributes onto it.

Unlike many people in this thread, I knew about Bitcointalk pretty late. Early 2019, I accidentally read an article about bitcoin scam...

But still, being late is better than not knowing this at all. Soon you'll also realize (like me) that this forum is far better than any social media sites at all, whom had a lot of bombarded fake news and ideas. Keep contributing with quality man!

I haven’t seen that many polls reach a 100 participations here, and although ideally we would need a fair share more of responses to be more certain of where we stand, it seems clear that search engines and recommendations from friends and acquaintances are behind 2/3 of Bitcointalk’s discovery traffic. Another 23% comes from referrals made by social media and websites. It’s more or less what I has in mind beforehand from an intuitive point of view.

In addition, family recommendations are not that significant. There could be a myriad of reasons there, ranging from the "I don’t want them to know what I’m doing here” to the “I don’t want to recommend and then see them stumble and blame me for it". This is perhaps easier to tackle with friends than family.

My friend told me this site years back then. It was just when the time I do need a part-time job to at least somehow fulfill my necessities, as I spend too much at my teenage years. Well, Bitcointalk went from gold onto diamond.

Gold, back when the days that knowledge are unlimited as doubts continues to grows in every aspect and sides of both technology and cryptocurrency, and as money comes with the hardwork here in forum when signature campaigns are legitimate and high-paying.

Now diamond, as everything turns the opposite. One must really need to work hard to reach the top or dig the deepest hole of the diamond mining, then a little salary would be better than having nothing, and whereas the knowledge and threads are repetitive and most doubts had been answered.

Well, we have the same year, that year for me is the most unforgettable year so far. Before that i know nothing about any of this, even the word bitcoin or cryptocurrency is non of my vocabulary. Not until i was a senior and almost all of my new friends are really into this. Of course seeing all of your friends in this makes me curious what is happening to them. Then one day i ask, then that is when the magic started. As i knew more of these, i became more curious and i always read some articles and news. Then my friend told me you should go to this forum and you'll see what we are always doing. Then they introduce me into signature campaigns and all of these. But after that I've become busy in my studies i almost forgot that bitcoins are existing. But then this year i going to be active again for sure.

My friend introduces me to this wonderful site to learn about bitcoin and other stuff related to cryptocurrency. But when I'm trying to register, my email has already been used and when I click the recover password my surprise that it really does and I do really have an account here. later on, I remembered that I had a task back then on some online job by signing up in 100 forum sites and Bitcointalk was one of them, last 2017 as you can see on my profile. I came here in March 2018, when merit was already introduced. I like that when I came here we have merit requirement to rank up so that real contributors to this forum will get known and spammers will not catch up to the real constructive posters.

I don't know if my story can be categorize as funny or inspiring idiotic stories?

I found out about this forum in September 2017. Precisely after i bought some D3 machine from bitmain. That stupid & greedy company (CEO) was late in shipping, it takes a long (longggggg) time to get an answer from their customer service. So I intend to find a forum to express my disappointment and resentment. My browsing activities finally ends in this forum. And from this forum I find out how stupid i am when i made decision to buy those antminer from bitmain.

Hey Ddmr, I found the bitcoin talking with some strange in a bitcoin casino, he told me this forum was a nice business opportunity, so, I decided to give it a try, my first post was made in the service section and after some hours i earn $100 for a bitcoin fast job.

At that moment I understand why he says it was a nice business opportunity, it is like a money forum with tons of people trying to make business, just madness, I just feel like I was at home.

To be precise, on 28th December 2018 a colleague of mine came around my section to have a discussion, in the process she told me about this trending technology called Bitcoin but at first, I feel reluctant because I wasn't sure of such digital currency to be in existence due to her explanations. With some time, I  gradually learned many things from her and became a member of Bitcoin Garden. Then, on some occasions with other friends on Bitcoin Garden, I learned there's another forum "Bitcointalk.org" which was more of information sharing concerning the technology, then I opened an account on "January 15, 2019, 03:36:21 PM".

From the day of my registration, I found out there is more information about my questions regarding Bitcoin which friends were unable to give. I couldn't imagine my humble self being an educator to those who introduced me to Bitcoin Garden. Many reached and still reaching out to me for some information. Since I joined here, I become a Bitcoin preacher in my little way. Thanks to Satoshi Nakamoto, Theymos and Forum members for the golden opportunity to learn from them.

I was first introduced about Bitcointalk on October last year by my roommate Tamanna. We are studying in same college. We live in a room in college hostel. But I can't pay attention because our exam is knocking at the door. After finishing exam I join this forum and still learning from here and there. My friend helps me a lot in my learning.

I got recommendations from friends or acquaintances to be part of the forum because at first I liked trading. I need to get more information about trading because I am a trader with small capital. To benefit from my activities as a trader, I must always get information and news, so I arrived at the forum and registered it on January 17, 2017.

And of course, this forum is where I want to carry out my activities as a trader. But over time I also tried a number of efforts and joined the campaign and the results I got were used for my needs and capital. Maybe this is a short story why I am here, and hopefully the presence and contribution that I made today can help other users.

I found a link from a Facebook post that lead me here . I signed up , spent a few hours confusing myself stupid trying to browse round the forum . I’ve got to say it wasn’t the easiest forum to use as a newbie . Then I forgot about the forum for 11 months and logged back in and slowly eased myself into the mechanics of the forum . Now it certainly has an addictive quality,  perhaps too much :)

I was searching online for how to make money but no good result. Later, I looked for how to earn bitcoin. I saw few means like:
Mining
Trading, like day trading, scalping, swing trading and arbitrage
Lending
Pay per click
Holding
Faucets
Bitcointalk signature.

So, as I was saying, mining is not easy to start as it is capital intensive and mining reward is reducing. Aside that, also mining difficulty is increasing. So, I look for another means and I choose faucets.

I tried freebitco. I was given 22 satoshi in one hour after solving one captcha for each. I was really tired and frustrated. I later thought of trading or holding, but, no money to do such and I read it was risky. So, I further to look for alternative means. So, I joined bitcointalk.

That was how I got here. For now, I am not earning but I am posting articles and replies because I know one day, this will turn good for me as I will make it here on this forum. And all I know now it is time to plant and later after a year, I will start reaping.

I like this thread so much. It makes me remember how and when I started on this forum,  Bitcointalk

I was introduced to bitcoin by a scammer. I was using my Facebook messenger one day and I saw a message from unknown person. He posed like a female and we chatted. She asked me to send her money the second day of chatting and I knew she was a scammer. She told me to send her google gift card later or send her bitcoin to an anonumous address when I do not send the money, nut still, I did not. But, during the time, I found out about bitcoin. I love bitcoin and a week after, I found out about bitcointalk on google too. I later joined the forum lately and I have gained knowledge from bitcointalk forum.

Fortunately I only invest little, no problem I lost a bit, I hope I can get back it later :'('

Because of that's I can know about bitcoin and bitcointalk (bitcoin forum)

*sigh Ahhh! Memories bring back. I always feel how blessed I am every time I reminisce the time I entered here. It was way back 2017 (I'm 3rd year college I guess) when my classmate/friend introduced this forum to me. I am not new on forum websites way back then that's why I don't believe in him after he told me that you can earn money here. I thought that it was a form of scam but as time goes by I realized that I'm all wrong ;D.

I finished my degree and got my license already and yet I'm still here lol. This forum became a part of my daily routine and I can't leave it anymore. My heart is drawing near to it already :).

This thread makes memories come back to my mind ;D At that time, a friend of mine shared a forum on his social media, he said that this bitcointalk forum is a place to discuss about bitcoin and can also get money as an additional result, that's where I was interested and joined in in 2016 and studied for a long time too because there was no guidance from others just looking for themselves how to post on this forum.

Honestly here I get a lot of benefits about extensive knowledge.

1. Bounty 2017 is the highest income for me because it is the bounty's heyday (maybe no scamer)  :D
2. 2018 a lot of scamer happens so that the bounty cannot be relied on anymore, but I still survive and that I have considered normal if I get a scamer trap on a project that I follow.
3. Now I am more focused on the signature campaign because here I can determine the best post quality.

And that is my experience while on bitcointalk.

Now I'm back here and getting and sharing a lot of information about the world of crypto.

So many interesting stories in this topic. I'm jealous with a lot of people here for not knowing this forum sooner. My registration date is 01 Apr, 2020, one day after I incidentally read an article on my favourite local forum, which is translated from and refered to Bitcointalk.org. The thing that I really like about BCT is its clean and simple white-blue interface, which is very similar to my mentioned local forum (it used vBulletin and recently migrated to XenForo). I found many interesting facts originated from this forum, like 10,000 bitcoins for pizza (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=137.msg1195#msg1195) or hodling (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0) mantra. I think I love this place and I'll make it my second Internet home.

You'd be surprised this forum layout is pretty outdated. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see the version (SMF) roughly 10 years old, just like Bitcoin .

Maybe that could be the reason why theymos doesn't want to upgrade it :D

I know the forum layout is old. As I said, I've been using a local forum for years. It was once based vBulletin platform with layout very similar to Bitcointalk. But in Mar 2020, due to security problem, that forum upgraded to xenForo. I think you know the feelings when you move to a new house. Even it's bigger, nicer but you really miss your old house at the first time. And then I found this forum with same oldschool style. That's how everything went. You can find my favorite local forum's old layout in below pictures:

Gotta jog my brain for a bit here. Iirc, it was one of those days in our school library where one of my friends were telling me that one of our classmates who was a tech geek was mining Bitcoin in our Library's PC. Curiosity got the best out of me and decided to look it up and that pretty much got me into it. I talked about my friend about what BTC actually was in the past and stuff like that. A few months after I managed to stumble about this site. I was kind of an in and out guy back then cause I was struggling with my studies back then but I'm pretty much free recently and have managed to finally balance my studies and life making it a lot less hassle to handle.

I think there are also a lot of people who found out about bitcoin through a friend. Well, I'm no different. A friend talked me it. We were in school that time. We were classmates. He encouraged me to try it because just by posting, I would be able to earn money. He even patronized me for being a student-journalist and that posting there would be easy peasy. It sounded good to me. But I hesitated. My answers were full of excuses like we don't have a stable internet connection, and the typical thought that it was just a scam.

But few months later, he was already able to buy himself a new phone, and new things in school. Like, what?! So I was wrong. It was not a scam. Then I finally asked him to how to join. Now, I feel kinda sad that I didn't believe him that moment. And now I wish that I should've entered sooner.

Well, the important thing is that I'm here now. My father is the one skeptic about this when he knew that I'm into crypto but my earnings was able to buy some of our household needs. Guess he won't be skeptic anymore. Besides, I have no plan of stopping being a part of this forum. This has helped me a lot in so many ways. ;D

I get to know about btt from through a friend. Each time we are together, you'll see him getting much occupied with this forum than giving me attention. Because of that, I was moved to ask him what this forum is all about. He lectured me for about a week about bitcoin and how this forum gets related to it (how it works) before he finally open an account for me. Ever since then, I keeps falling in love with btt. Although he has given up on btt because scam project, while am still here "standing firm"

If we do an honest job of analyzing the market before investing in Bitcoin we will prevent scams within the case of bitcoin investing it's far better to remain stable therefore the price will always go up and down, so you've got to attend and see. I also learned about Bitcoin through my friend. He opened the ID on behalf of me and taught me the work Now I even have learned tons and traded Bitcoin.

Couple of years back my friend was talking about the crypto currency and its usage and the way it is going to be the future of the world. This took me a lot interest to understand about it and know many other things. He suggested me to visit this forum as it like the wikipedia of the crypto where you will get all the information required and all the help if you are struck or have any query. People on this forum are very helpful and impart various knowledge and also a knowledge warehouse. I stared understanding and reading various sections and then realized that I was quite late to come to this forum as people were already part of this forum form long back. But yes, never mind after that never looked back.

I was 17 yrs old when there was a good samaritan introduced me this forum. Honestly, I am not a typical user here who knows everything about cryptography or even have backgrounds in computer. It is hard for me to get things in my mind because I have no knowledge when I was a newbie. That's the reason why I was stuck with my rank before.

In fact, I thought before that this forum is just for money. Then suddenly, I realized that learning is more valuable than shit tokens we've got. So, I decided to study everything until now.  I don't know where will I start. But I was determined to improve myself.

My mentor who introduced me this stuff also inspired me. Because he have nothing before but right now, he is already a millionaire with a lot of knowledge.

That's why I am really thankful to him because without him, I will be an ignorant in total with cryptocurrency until now. I didn't make money for the last few months. And I can't improve my speaking skills as well.

I really acknowledge him a lot because without him, Nellayar doesn't exist here.

Edit:

Oh I forgot why he shared this stuff to me. It is because we visited their house and this was opened to him. Fortunately, I was there to ask him about how to join. He saw my curiosity and of course he want to help me. And that is the time that he introduced me this forum.

I can never forget how I find out about this forum  ;D
Back in 2016 I was working for a company and they had some financial issue. So, they paid me my payment in BTC and I knew nothing about Bitcoin. After searching trough internet I found this forum. So, I came here and wanted to sell all my bitcoins. I found someone and sold him 2.7 BTC for ~1.6K USD.
A few months later I saw bitcoin trading for more than 15K USD! I was feeling regret for selling my bitcoins. So, I returned here and start to learning about this new currencies to avoid such new regrets in future.
Sad story, But made it start learning about it.

I am sharing my true story about how to know that Bitcointalk. You can also call me greedy because one of my friends has earned a lot by working from this forum. I am the son of a middle-class family. Always looking for how to earn a little extra. So after hearing the story of his earnings in the mouth of the friend, I went after greed. Then I started searching Google on this and tried to learn something. But there was no profit. Then I found out about YouTube. Because my friend didn't want to teach me, I couldn't even learn anything behind him for a few days. Still, he did not give up. I finally learned Google and YouTube and learned more about the forum. That forum is not just a means of earning.

Finally, I created an account in the forum and now I am trying to earn some money.

In my case, this happened back in 2014. At that time, I just started doing mining and did not really know anything about bitcointalk .
However, when I encountered a problem with my GUIminer on the mining.bitcoin.cz I began to look for a solution that brought me to bitcointalk to "mining support" branch.
As it often happens, I found not only a solution, but also a whole community that helped me dive deeper into the world of bitcoin and mining, as well as find answers to the most difficult tasks.
And to this I am infinitely grateful. ::)

In the past I've came across this forum once but really I don't see any reason to join forums and talk to members about coins, I was so damn hooked with my mining setup thinking it's the only way to make money, I started hearing rumours about bounties in December 2019 from a home town boy who claimed he made some good money, was hard to believe until I started doing some research on past bounty campaigns, I feel it's way more better than mining, all it requires is just time and energy unlike mining, where electricity is the biggest enemy
