it was a new rank requirement that was added that needs users to have at least 1 merit to go from Newbie rank to Jr. Member rank.

What is Merit?

Merit is a new system created in order to reward quality contributions to the forum. Now to rise through ranks you will also need to acquire Merit in addition to Activity

Your account become newbie because the new merit system update to rank up Jr. Member at least must have 1 merit on your account.

Bitcointalk use merit system because to make this forum have better quality and innovative post. If rank up only have requirement by amount of post, we will se many account just spamming to get more post for quick rank up. So, merit system is to prevent from any cheater want to get rank up instant.

You should check this link to make you more understand about merit system https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4442656.0

TBH after the introduction, I found the 100 Merits airdrops to be totally unnecessary.

Those from Newbie managed to become Full Member had the easiest shortcut.

After a few explanations about merit above, I think now you know what merit is. Now it's time to find out how to get merit (even though I don't really recommend it as a goal). some members say: "You must make a quality informative post and contribute to the forum, then, merit will come to you".

Apart from this, I would like to add on that it completely depends on the user whether to provide merit or not because I have seen some of the newbie accounts getting disappointed when they don't get merit for useful posts. Please keep in mind that the post which we make regardless of insight it provides might not be useful for the one who already knows that, but if the post is really helpful then some or the other day after weeks or months someone will find it useful and give merit.

The post must not be useful to the meriter before they give merits to it, if it was to be that way then merit sources may find it very difficult to give merits to newbies, since there's every chance anything posted by them is already known by the merit sources since they are high ranked members and have been involved with bitcoin for a longer period or duration of time.

Many merit sources have stated before that they give out merits to even posts they do not even agree with. If it's useful for some and it's a good post, it "could" get merits.

What do you beginner's think about merit?

i offline long time, and now want to online again, but whats is merit? why my account still newbie??  i remember my account is Jr member

Welcome back, crackhawk!

The Merit system was met with a heavy mix of celebration and frustration. I think it's a good thing, it keeps the volume of obnoxious or frivolous posting down. There was a ton of trash posting going on so people could rank up multiple accounts to take advantage of bounty and signature campaigns. Once the system came out there was also a lot of fraud in its use - people would give merit to their duplicate accounts, it got so bad that a campaign was started to hunt these people out and ban them.

One thing i've seen recently is a reduction in people giving out merit. To any Senior, Hero, or Legendary folks reading this - we should be more willing to gift merit to good, informational posts. Let's help the Junior members among us, who are providing a positive contribution to this community, with the ability to rank up themselves. Especially as the era of signature campaigns is coming to an end.

I'd love to hear more from other beginner's on their impressions of this system.

It looks as if you were a user of Bitcoin, and dropped out. Now you have returned to the fold. It would be interesting to know why you have had this change of heart, and I'm sure that discussions like this would soon earn you some merit.

Indeed. It's interesting to know what made him go back. He stopped posting mid 2018 until 2019. Then he started coming back this year. However OP's previous posts were so short and lacks quality.
Since op isn't familiar with the merit system, it's just about giving and receiving merits when they feel like you have a quality posts that have sense and is helpful in the forum. So if you want to be active again, you have to work on giving quality posts.

We have a new merit system to avoid those members who just post shitpost just to rank up. Now you need atleast 1 merit to become a jr. Member that's why your account become a newbie. Try to post something usefull to others and you will get some merits  ;)

You can read the whole information in this thread: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5030366.0)

By the way, welcome back to the forum. The merit is design to avoid countless spam that's been brought here in the forum. I think it's better this has been implemented and the outcome is really tremendous in a sense that spam really reduced. You can get some information a lot through here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats on some posts been merited from past and the recent plus other things like who's the most merited user in the forum, etc.

I agree with you that for newbie may be difficult to receive first merit because they don't know much about bitcoin, crypto, anything.
Still, there are many merit giveaway topics in the forum and also if somebody is ready to dedicate his time and effort and learn about crypto than such person will have more knowledge and will write posts with more useful content, with more quality and eventually will be rewarded with merits.

At the beginning it was difficult to rank up especially if you target a Sr.Member/Hero or Legendary rank..
But now with the high number of merits source and a best repartition of them it's easier.
Also like someone mentioned, you can find giveaways or contest to win merits

After merits system is not a bad thing because you have less fake accounts, it's easier for campaign managers to check the quality of the user (good poster, help people, stay on the forum), so a better publicity for companies which are running signature campaigns.

But like every system, it is not perfect because you could say some people are just "selling" merits or giving merits to people just because they are well known and don"t need them anymore because of their rank.
And some people are paranoiac because of it, and maybe you will have your own Meta topic because of a misunderstood.

Anyway, just like money attract money, merit attract merit.
So go and  "earn" your first one and as a Jr.Member, it will be easier to get more.  :)

I saw your account was made in    June 30, 2011. You registered here and must have know bitcoin from the early stages. If you had posted from that time, you could easily be Legendary by this time. Now  you need to have a single merit to become a Jr Member which is not difficult to attain if you post regularly.
