Title: Top 50 coin's Desktop+Android+iOS wallets . Newbies be aware about fake wallet.
Post by: sujonali1819 on January 25, 2020, 04:11:45 PM
This post generally for the newbies. Because basically, newbies have not much knowledge. And many newbies are getting hacked by downloading fake/phishing wallets day by day. For that, I was thinking to make this post. Here I am trying to share some official+third party trusted wallet source by this post. All sources are recommended by the main website of every project. I don't know how many people will be helped or not But I think it will not make bad someone.

For today I have tried to add top 24 coins according to coinmarketcap (https://coinmarketcap.com/coins/). I will update this thread with more coins...

Useful selection for new comers. I wish op to consider updating it with new wallets and new coins.
One last thing about Android & IOS wallets for bitcoin; i ask you gently to replace the blockchain wallet by another client, i would suggest Electrum or MyCelium. You know why? Because blockchain.com is a centralised compagny and its brand name led to more confusion between the blockchain [technology behind bitcoin] and blockchain [company], especially for newbies . From another side, this wallet is mainly related to the company and we can't blame it if one day the company starts promoting itself using the app or anything similar.

Well, I agree about this and also this is the thing the comes up in my mind upon reading your thread OP, I ask my self why blockchain wallet? We should care about the safety of newcomers when they are using a wallet because of most them will fall into a scam Bitcoin wallet, just like Freewallet.org which I highly suggest to others to avoid this kind of wallet. I used this app wallet before when I was a newbie and I am not satisfied with their service because I lost my coins and did not recover. Indeed, --MyCelium is good to suggest and also the Coinomi app, it is supported by a SegWit address.

BTW, is there an android wallet for USDT?

I was also thinking about electrum while posting. Ok I will remove blockchain and update with electrum. But I am now in mobile. I will edit Tomorrow. Thank you for your good suggestion. And I will ask everybody to inform me if I miss something so that I can make this list more helpful.

Edit: Blockchain removed and electrum added.

In android/IOS section of bitcoin wallet, you have suggested blockchain wallet which I guess will be very much misleading for the newbie because we have far better mobile wallet for BTC. You might get interested in my thread- An Overview of Bitcoin Android Wallet (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5202955.0)
Because blockchain.com is a centralised compagny
Although they are a centralized organization, they give you the control of your fund; private key so that you recover anytime from any other compatible wallet. Blockchain.com is a Custodial Web Wallet (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5201156.0)

BTW, is there an android wallet for USDT?
Freewallet support USDT, I guess most of the multicrypto wallet must support USD.

That's right. It's suitable to use for everybody.
But when it comes to suggest a bitcoin wallet to a public community, i prefer to choose the free open-source wallet verified by the community and not in control by any entity third-part. There is a lot of other problems with Blockchain company from different approaches and you can check some of them in the "Web Wallets" sub-board .

Afaik, USDT can be stored in different blockchain. One developed in Omni blockchain and the other is an Erc20 token and may be a third one in Tron Blockchain.
USDT is basically a coin made within exchange(s) to help traders freeze their balances during drop price then holders take also advantages from it. This is why it's important to know what kind of Tether you want to store based on what exchange you would use to sell them.
Many users use their exchange accounts to store USDT while others found alternatives in multi-currency wallets like the one suggested above. Although we have to take in consideration that the USDT supported by FreeWallet or any other alternative may not be compatible with the next receiver of the funds if he supports Tether over another blockchain.

Yes there is. If you downloaded the latest version of imtoken 2.0 you can have the two types of blockchain of USDT. Imtoken have supported for blockchain of bitcoin, eos, eth, and cosmos. As you open the wallet for bitcoin you can see that they are associated with tether(USDT with omni blockchain) while uf you use the ether blockchain the associated USDT there is the one which recently transfer as erc20 token.

Check images below:

BTC wallet with USDT (Omni blockchain)

Eth wallet with USDT ( Erc20 eth network)

I have noticed that Atomic Wallet is suggested for many coins. For example for Cosmos and Vechain you suggest using Atomic Wallet as the desktop client.
Vechain has Sync as the official desktop wallet. https://env.vechain.org/#sync
The Cosmos website was difficult to navigate but instead of Atomic Wallet I found Lunie, a wallet to store and stake coins. https://lunie.io/
I have not tested any of these and I have no idea how they work.

I remember there were some negative press about Atomic Wallet in the past about people using access to their coins in different weird ways, hence the suggestions.

I have noticed that Atomic Wallet is suggested for many coins.
At first I have tried to find out the official wallet of each coin. But when I did not find the official wallet then I put here some wallets which are recommended by the site. And some official wallets has not downloaded more+ less good feedback on the play store where I put some Third party wallet which is recommended by the official site.

For example for Cosmos and Vechain you suggest using Atomic Wallet as the desktop client.

Sync wallet added for vechain desktop wallet. Thank you for your suggestions.

An interesting eventual add would be to add a column for Ledger and Trezor, indicating if those hardware wallets support, although they do have various models and perhaps (I’m not sure) a given hardware wallet brand does not support the same coins across all its devices.

Note: As usual, regardless of the poster, one should verify links to wallet downloads to double or triple check they are correct before placing any assets in them.

One the EOS part. I noticed that you didn't include available EOS desktop wallets. There quite a number of EOS desktop wallets but I personally have experience with two of them, that is
1. SimplEOS Wallet (https://eosrio.io/simpleos/)
2. Scatter EOS Wallet (https://get-scatter.com/) (This is much more popular)

Its nice of you gathering these coins and their respective wallets to avoid fake or possibly phishing. As a newbie, we need to be careful. I have my own way to avoid these fake wallets. I go to coinmarketcap click the coin I want to find the wallet and then click website and from there you can find the wallet from their official website. If the coin is not listed on CMC I go to their social media and look for their official website but be aware there are some fake social media accounts.

We have different ways on coping up such problems such as doing our own research and exploration regarding that specific wallet. Having your own research is extremely useful and helpful because it will help you choose which wallet can assure you that your funds are well protected from hackers, particularly these days that fake wallet existed to deceive and take advantage of people especially those who doesn't have enough knowledge. Based on my experiences, it helped me a lot when i'm still new on finding a wallet that suits me because I tend to lose my funds. It's great to see some valuable information that can enlighten newbies minds for new learning regarding on the wallet that they should use.

Yea, First time I did not able to include the EOS desktop wallet. Thanks for your suggestion. Just add the simpleos wallet as an EOS desktop wallet.

Nice way to be aware of fake wallets and everybody should follow the way like you. But many newbies try the easy way to find the wallet. They just search on google and play store to find the wallet instead of visiting the official website. there are many fake wallets are on the internet and in the play store. Hope this topic will help these newbies :)

Electrum is not available on iOS yet. OSX is MacOS which is the operating system used in iMac/Macbook's and not iPhones.

I would suggest listing Bluewallet  (https://bluewallet.io/)(LN supported) or Edge app (https://edge.app/) instead.

I guess Bluewallet hasn't developed iOS version. I might be wrong though. When I tried to find out wallet which support LN, I didn't get any for iOS version. I have checked through the wallet list suggested by bitcoin.org, would love to have suggested a LN supported wallet for iOS if any.

My bad, I wanted to say Bluewallet don't have lightning network but somehow said they didn't develop iOS. In bitcoin.org, the data isn't updated. When I tried to filter the wallet for iOS operating system, the lightning network option is disabled. That's why I thought Bluewallet don't have lightning network on iOS. Check the image below. That's what I get when I filter with iOS operating system.

Thanks for your updates. With this, newbies would have ample of good wallets and coins to invest. When it comes to wallet, I have used and tested AtomicWallet on both Android, desktop and iOS devices. The wallet is a cool one plus the fact that its user-friendly and secured to use. The wallet also is a non-custodial wallet that provides assess and ability to storing multiple cryptocurrencies and blockchain just in one wallet.

Hmm, not only electrum but also many wallets are looks like the original wallet. The name and the logo too. There is no way to know the original one if We don't redirect from the original source/websites. Before installing any application we should find it from official website. Many people’s mainly newbies made some mistake like this. So this thread for these people.

Yes, coinomi also good and user-friendly multi assets wallet. But it is not a official wallet for any coin. And mainly mostly I inserted the official apps which is recommended officially. But coinomi also can be suggested for rest of coins when I will make an update in the OP. Thank you everyone.

I often use the online one, myetherwallet and I think it's recommended.

But before the google play store can nail it, it already had some downloads which might have made some people get scammed. I can also see that there also are dummy websites pretending to be the official source of the wallet but it might never be the real one. You should always check for the website original details from whois backup and you would spot the real and dummy wallets much easily. They mostly are identical which makes them similar to the original source and that is what might make the newbies stand at risk.

Most of the people might even trust the wallet just because of its logo as the logo we see are usually stored in our unconscious mind and anytime we see something similar to that logo our brain would recall it from our unconscious brain and we would feel like it is the original one.

Hi,

there can be a few reasons why your friend can't log in to the wallet. In the first place, we always recommend making sure login information is correct.

If your friend reached out to our support team, he must have gotten a reply. Can you please share his support ticket number?

This is a nice post for newbies who wants to find good wallet to store their coins and the links are working too, but I would like to add a fact that not all wallets on play store can be trusted, I prefer the official link to the website and download from there

This thread would surely be helpful to a lot of people. Most of the newbies try to download any random wallet from any source just because they might trust each and every wallet but most of the wallets might fake out. This thread would be best for such newbies.

There are a lot of coins which most of the newbies tend to hold but can't find specific wallets and hence might store those coins onto some exchange or random wallet. This might endanger their funds and the chances of newbies getting scammed are usually much higher into the decentralized world. There are a lot of newbies who do get scammed each day and these kind of innovations might at least keep some of the newbies safe.

Nice post, it will be very helpful for all the new comers in this forum or in the crypto world, it is the basic knowledge they should have when they going to enter the crypto world. This should be known by everyone who is planning on investing and trading because it will lead them to decide what to invest and what to trade, if they know that the bitcoin is the most valuable asset then for sure they will choose it especially for those who really want to make more money but for those who are not a risk taker, they should choose some other cryptocurrency with loe value like litecoin, ethereum, etc. but I suggest and I prefer the bitcoin because what is investing if you are afraid to do so.

Extremely helpful for newbies who want to try and test different wallets that suit or whatever they want to use, I used to use MEW in browsers then shifted to Imtoken but unfortunately my account had been hack several times then switch to trust wallet which is I think more convenient other than those two previous wallets I used. I never know that there are plenty of wallets for certain coins, I thought most the coins created was just an ethereum based coins.

Although I'm not newbies, I also consider it a very educational thread for other members of this forum - to have a list of wallets in one place. I use many of them as well. You made a very good post.

Thanks for the wonderful post OP, as for me I have a thing against desktop wallets, they aren't safe, you will connect to the internet to sync blockchain for sure and that's the danger awaiting, too many ways to infect a PC, mobile wallets are just way safer

I don't know how many people will be helped or not But I think it will not make bad someone.

This is a very nice topic for beginners. They will learn a lot from here. I suggest you to add some information about Polkadot (DOT) in this topic. Because Polkadot (DOT) is now rank 7 coin (according to CMC), rank 6 coin (according to CoinGecko). So many newbies are interested in this coin now. And I think most Newbie knows very little about this Coin. So they can be easily scammed.

Great job, thank you, I got acquainted with some multi-currency wallets thanks to you, now I use one constantly, I don't think this is a very safe option, but it is very convenient.
