Title: Bitcoin Testnet Faucet? i can pay for thath
Post by: maurobera66 on February 07, 2020, 12:39:41 PM
Hey guys, I'm trying to get 10 bitcoin to do some experiments. Is there any faucets that pays big? Most of them are just paying like 0.001 which takes forever. It's energy consuming Sad If anyone could give me 10 btc, that would be great support for me

I used to mine on the testnet a long time ago, and have 100+ tBTC in my testnet wallet. I use this tBTC to fund my own faucet (https://tbtc.mocacinno.com). I could potentially LEND you 10 tBTC for a while (no intrest), but i would take some collateral which you could get back after you return the tBTC.
I'm not interested in selling the tBTC, since i use it to fund my own faucet, but i don't really need the funds for at least a couple of months (depending on wether my faucet gains popularity or not).

So my terms:
  • find a trusted FORUM escrow, or, if you trust me: give some decent collateral directly to me (it should be enough to rent sufficient hashrate to mine 10 tBTC + something for my efforts).
  • After the collateral is secured, i'll transfer 10 tBTC
  • Within 1 month, you return the 10 tBTC to me, after the returning transaction is confirmed you get your collateral back
  • You pay all fees (escrow, tx fees,...)

If you agree, please accept this deal on this forum (not in PM). I'll be online for the next 2 hours.

I have no idear to be honest... Like i said, it's been a long time since i mined on the testnet. tBTC is without actual value, i guess the equivalent of $50 in BTC, LTC, ETH,... would allow me to mine 10 tBTC in case you'd run away?

I have no idear if this is to much or to little, it's just an incentive for you to give the tBTC back once your tests are finished ;)

It's only collateral by the way (not a sale), if you give the tBTC back within a month, you'll get everything back (minus transaction fees offcourse).I would also be OK if you chose some other trusted member of bitcointalk to hold the collateral, i really don't mind as long as i trust the person holding the funds.

Sure, $20 as collateral for 5 tBTC sounds OK to me...
You can either pick a trusted forum member to hold the collateral, or you can fund this bitcoin address:

bc1qp0ugpnscaeszzjxd6cgas7a528f52jrwdecw3v

As soon as either the trusted forum member tells me the collateral is secure, or if the transaction funding above address has 2 confirmations, i'll fund ms3Q8h3KhBQ9cEomjmMvRa66AV7RdwMasd with 5 tBTC

As discussed above:
I want the tBTC back within 1 month and (transaction) fees are payed by you when i return the collateral...

The pay rates of the faucets I know are currently more like 0.005/0.01 tbtc by claim.
If you still need tBTC I can send you one or two for free without collateral but I want you to send them back to me within a month.

How would that work?
Obviously he can't give you ALL the tBTC back, if he does some testing.
Because there are fees in testnet too :)

So you would only get back 5 tBTC:s minus testnet fees.

PS. While I understand you want them back, the collateral is awfully close to selling.

Well, i actually assumed the OP needed 5 tBTC fast to do some testing, but he has a whole month to give me the tBTC back... So if he spends 0.1 tBTC on fees, he has all the time in the world to claim them from one of the 3 or 4 working testnet faucets.
Even if he doesn't, and he returns 4.9 tBTC, i wouldn't be mad... It's tBTC, so he's allowed to use it to test stuff :)

As for the collateral: i can assure you that it is not my intention to sell the tBTC. I'd rather have 5 tBTC back than $20 in BTC, it's a real hassle to mine tBTC. I do hope the OP feels the same way, but we'll wait and see. If the OP would run, i'd keep the $20 and use it to mine on the testnet once my stash runs out, so my endgoal would be to walk away with 5 tBTC, not to trade 5 worthless testnet coins for $20.
On a sidenote: I only asked for collateral because the OP is a new member with negative trust, if he was a > full member with positive trust, i'd probably lent the tBTC without collateral, the collateral is just an incentive for him to return the tBTC once he is done, nothing more, nothing less...

This ^^^ seems to be directed at me, but AFAIK I have never spoken with you, unless you're an alt of the OP?

@OP: the month has already passed... I'd like to get my 5 tBTC back, I actually expected a PM from you asking for an address to send the loaned amount back, but since no PM came, here's an address you can fund: 2My1JoNGXhsfn2qfrSdWX99PLrqCocN8eSY

If this address remains unfunded for more than 48 hours, i'll have to tag your account and keep the collateral... But i'd much rather have the 5 tBTC back so i don't have to go trough the hassle of setting up a miner to mine tBTC...

I am looking for a few TBTC, I am willing to send you a little BTC for TBTC.

Or if you just want to hold BTC as collateral.

Thanks

I was gifted some testnet bitcoin ( a fraction of a bitcoin I hasten to add) by LoyceV.

Unfortunately, the Eclair wallet for both main-net and test net on my mobile phone have become buggy and those funds never arrived.  However, I do have some other funds, so I'll match what LoyceV sent and send that to your testnet wallet address in a couple of days time once I have fished out the previous thread and worked out how much he sent me.

Hope your project works out.

Thanks for your kind words and the tBTC offer  :)

Full disclosure tough: i used to mine tBTC for a while a long time ago (when the diff was low and the reward was high, it was because i was developing a service and i needed a moving testnet blockchain, but i was the only one mining back then), and i do have a stash of >100 tBTC on my ledger wallet because of my historic mining operation. So i do have a stash that will sustain my faucet for a relatively long time, if you need your tBTC for anything you want to test, you don't have to donate it (offcourse)  ;)

The reason i'm "hoarding" and hodling tBTC is because right now, it's really hard to mine any meaningful amount of tBTC at current testnet diff (10.5M) and block reward (~0.39 tBTC/block), so any tBTC i "lose" is very hard to replenish, and i do need a stash to keep my faucet running (at least for a while).

I do loan out tBTC in bigger chunks to anybody who asks for it (with collateral for anybody i don't know/trust, or without collateral for anybody else), so if you ever need any tBTC you donated back for tests, you just have to ask ;)

I am looking for a few TBTC, I am willing to send you a little BTC for TBTC.

I don't sell tBTC. If you need smaller amounts, you can claim them from my faucet (or from the other ~5 working tBTC faucets). If you need bigger amounts for any kinds of test, i do loan out bigger amounts without intrest, but because you're a new (unknown and untrusted) member, i'd need a big chunk of collateral. The collateral i'd require is MORE than what the tBTC costs to mine because you NEED an incentive to repay the tBTC... I'd much rather have the tBTC back than see you default and keep the collateral, cause even if i can keep the collateral, i'll have to use it to rent hashrate from nicehash or miningrigrentals, setup a tBTC pool, mine,...

tBTC is worth exactly $0/tBTC, but it's quite expensive to mine nowadays due to the high diff and low block reward, so if you want to continue this path, tell me how much tBTC you want to loan, and i'll give you an estimated collateral
Don't freak out when you see the collateral amount, you'll get the collateral back AFTER you return the tBTC, minus the transaction fees, minus the potential escrow fees

This is important to know @killthebanks. You offered a small payment for Testnet Bitcoin, but you're not supposed to pay for them, as they're not supposed to have any value:
Testnet coins are separate and distinct from actual bitcoins, and are never supposed to have any value
~
There have been three generations of testnet. Testnet2 was just the first testnet reset with a different genesis block, because people were starting to trade testnet coins for real money.
Paying for Testnet Bitcoins will ultimately lead to another reset.

but it's quite expensive to mine nowadays due to the high diff and low block reward
That means many people are spending quite some money on mining testnet. I didn't expect that.

That means many people are spending quite some money on mining testnet. I didn't expect that.

Indeed... I remember the time where you could just spin up a testnet node and run cpuminer with one or two threads to solomine tBTC, but as it stands now, the diff was pushed to 10.5M with a block reward of only 0.39 tBTC/block. The time between 2 blocks is often ~20 minutes tough (at which point the diff drops to 1 for the next block), telling me that the person who pushed so much hashrate on the test network has since turned of his ASIC.
That being said, there's still somebody with an ASIC that's being active on the testnet, since i've tried mining with my geckoscience stick and my server (8 threads, old XEON's) and i can't hit a single block, so even at diff 1, somebody is hashing at such speeds they beat me to a diff 1 valid block long before my cpu or stickminer finds a valid block at diff 1.

10.5M means that somebody was mining with about 75 Th, it also means that an "old" S7 (for example) would generate:
(((((Hashrate (hashes/sec) * average block reward * 600 * 65535) / 2^48) / Difficulty) * 6 * 24)
(((((4700000000000‬ * 0.39 * 600 * 65535) / 2^48) / 10500000) * 6 * 24) = 3.51 tBTC/day

This while burning 1.25 KWatt * 24 hours * 0.3€/kwh = 9€/day

So, if you have an old S7, and you run it 24/7, 1tBTC would cost you ~2.6 euro's to mine because somebody tought it was funny to mine with a total hashrate of 75 Th...

I, for one, would applaud resetting the testnet once again... Hopefully this time people won't push the diff to such heights... It's a testnet for pete's sake... It's worthless, the dev's can pull the plug at any moment... I can't imagine why anybody would want to push the diff to a height where a simple dev can't just solo cpu mine some tBTC when he needs to test something...

Try using regtest to generate as much TESTNET BTC as you need.
It only takes a few seconds to be done because it's a preset low difficulty.

More information / detailed instructions here: https://bitcoin.org/en/developer-examples#regtest-mode

This should let you do any testing you need.

I created my own multi-coin testnet faucet if you need some coins! https://testnet-faucet.com (at the time of writing, I'm still syncing the Bitcoin testnet)
