Title: #meritislife: how to be notified on a smartband of merits and mentions
Post by: fillippone on March 02, 2020, 12:06:57 AM
#meritislife
You weren't reading this if you weren't basically agreeing on this.
So why frantically refresh your merit page and hit the "Show new replies to your post" link when you can be notified via haptic feedback and immediately revert to the forum in the rare occurrence of real life interfering with logged in time?

In this guide i will show you how I setup a very quick, easy and cheap notification machine.

This is the plan:
  • 1. Buy a simple and reliable smartband
  • 2. Subscribe to a Notification Bot
  • 3. Configure the smartband to receive the right notifications from the phone.

Let's go!

1. Buy a simple and reliable smartband.

What we need is a smartband to show incoming notification.
We are focused on the forum, so we want it to be reliable, with a long battery life (we don't want to lose notifications because we are charging it). Added features are a bonus.
My choice was on the Xiaomi MI band 4 (https://www.mi.com/global/mi-smart-band-4)

Here the specs:

I think it is a quite cheap piece of hardware at roughly 30 USD.

You can find it easily on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T4ZH692/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_51cxEbBZG5XR2).

Once we have it on our hand we have to install the companion app, pair with our phone and activate app alerts.

The companion App requires a link to a social profile (Facebook or Google) or an email activation.
If you are concerned about your privacy I suggest you to create a throwaway mail at @protonmail using it only for this specific task.

To activate App notification proceed as indicated below:

https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobaf530f3b2f88e622.pnghttps://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobda914d6fd03ea680.jpeghttps://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobc245ba9cea31de6f.jpeg

As you can see from the above image, I am at 18% of battery having charged it last time 20 days ago. Pretty good considerting I have hearth monitor and sleep tracking activated and other few notification added.

This will allow the smartband to show notification from phones.
We can now subscribe to Notification Bot

2. Subscribe to a notification Bot.

I was so used to @Piggy Bot, that when it suddenly failed, I realised how much eased using the forum.
A good notification Bot is like freedom or good health: one of those underappreciated asset you don't care about until you suddenly lose them.

Regarding the Bot to use, there are at least two main options to choose from:

https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blob79735330de04e360.jpeg?1[TelegramBot] Merit watcher and Mention Notification Bot (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5209107.msg53330085#msg53330085)  Giammangiato Bot specific instructions (#post_giammangiatobot)

3. Configure the smartband to receive the right notifications from the phone

I don't know anything about you, but I am in several Telegram channels with thousands of members.
Hence receiving a notification from every channel would be a mess, with constant notification nightmare and a really fast depleting of the battery.
So I decided to setup Telegram to cast notifications for this particular channel only.
Go to
Settings=>Notifications =>Telegram

Toggle Allow Notifications: ON

Those following customisation are optional and deemed viable only for your Mobile UI
Choose your Notification Style for The main device

https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blob731c1c5e34c5fc3e.jpeg

Then Click to the last row
Code:
 Telegram Notification Settings

to be taken to the Telegram Notification Menu.

Here, the relevant section is the first one, as the Bot is classified as a chat.
You have to disable all the notification except for the Bot's one.

Here all

All the other sections (Group/Channel) must be disabled:

In case you want to prevent being notified during sleep hours you can activate a Do Not Disturb function in iOS.

https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobcc45ce68d9f7e767.jpeg

You can read more about this function here (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204321).
With these setting notifications are disabled between 23:00- 7.00 when you can sleep concentrate more on the forum without being disturbed by notifications.

The result is the following:

Main Bot thread:
[TelegramBot] Merit watcher and Mention Notification Bot (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5209107.msg53330085#msg53330085)

How to join the Bot:

  • Open Telegram chat t.me/Btctalk_meritbot (http://t.me/Btctalk_meritbot)
  • Type "/start"
Code:
/start

I am a strong believer in the utility of local boards.
I am lucky enough to be able to express myself in at least a couple of languages, but I know this is not the case for everyone.
A lot of users post only in the local boards because of a variety of reasons  either language or cultural barriers, lack of interest or whatever other reason.
I personally know a lot of very good users (from the italian sections mainly, for obvious reason) who doesn't post in the international sections.

I think all those users they are missing a lot of good contents posted on the international (english) section or on other boards.

Used Mi Band 4 for a few months now. I can agree that it's a good smartwatch. The health feature is more of a gimmick obviously but the rest is good. The battery can last for 20 days or so which is definitely a plus. But keep in mind that you need to have a Mi account to log in to the app before you can use it.

You have to really like getting merit if you are getting watch notifications every time you receive merit.

I currently use an Apple Watch to watch notifications, daily activities, reminders, etc. All I need to do is subscribe to that bot. Thanks.

You could add as well like the app Done to see your progress in tracking your habits (like posting, forming a habit, etc)

          https://apps.apple.com/us/app/done-a-simple-habit-tracker/id1103961876

P.S. Battery life on an Apple Watch depends on the usage and if you have the latest one, Series 5, you could turn on or off the always-on display and save more battery.

Nice topic but No! thanks, I wouldn't be buying and wearing a smartband just to know when somebody sends me merit, it's a bit too much IMO.

This is quite cool despite being creepy AF. Makes it kinda tempting to send you merits at 3 AM, one at a time 5 minutes apart.

Wow this is great actually. In my country, robbing and snatching during late at night is common especially if your riding public transport and that's how dangerous it is. Some users might be checking their phone to see what's new or pop up on forum but with this, maybe it would be avoided such using phones in dangerous places.

But this is right. For such option would be expensive and impractical but the feature of notification is really helpful for those users who always received merits.

This is only an option to be able to see merit from various devices. Want to buy a smartband or not it's everyone's choice.

Currently, there are also many who use smartband for daily activities because of its many features and are very helpful for daily activities rather than ordinary watches.

how to see merit on a smartband can also be applied to other devices such as on-screen dashboards in cars and other devices that support Bluetooth connections and have the option to display notifications for telegram applications and other apps.

You can avoid that by adding an empty table row.  8)

You should absolutely not be checking your phone in a dangerous place simply to see who merited you on the forum or who mentioned you in a reply. That's a little too much. Also wearing a smart band might give an indication of wealth which would also attract hoodlums.
It can also give your involvement in bitcointalk away and someone could trace your identity to the forum.

I'd rather wait until I have enough free time to check up the forum and catch up with whatever I had missed.

          Aha!
Yes, I am slightly obsessed with merits.
Please note that I did this first of all because I like to tinker with all the possible gadgets and idea who come to my mind.
I deliberately overstated a few statements and sentences throughout the post to make my merit obsession bigger than it is ("sleep deprivation because of merits? are you sure?"), but It is an half-jokingly attitude.

Used Mi Band 4 for a few months now. I can agree that it's a good smartwatch. The health feature is more of a gimmick obviously but the rest is good. Correct, battery life is quite good. This was one of the main reason because I chose it against an Apple watch (price being the first, by a good distance): I want to focus on forum and merits, not charging the damn thing.
Only advice is that you can use a trow-away mail for this app.

I currently use an Apple Watch to watch notifications, daily activities, reminders, etc. All I need to do is subscribe to that bot. Thanks.

As I said, the price point was a barrier for me.
This costs less than 10% of an Apple watch, with inferior performances, of course, bar battery time, where Apple Watch is beaten big time, and the related function of sleep tracking. (even if you don't sleep very much if you are really focused on the forum.

          <...>
And for an improved formatting style, the problem why the size of the first picture in a table is too little, is a known issue.

You can avoid that by adding an empty table row.  8)

It might be a known issue, but not by me! thanks for the head up!
EDIT: Looks like an empty cell, rather than an empty row, but whatever, it worked!

          Edit:
I've also changed width to height to have the pictures in the same position.

Nah, I noticed that before, but I don't like this as it distorts the images. I am going to crop all the images to fit the perfect aspect ratio of my original image!

Merit addicted confirmed ;D. It'd be amazing if there's a bot which can show received merit amount and it's sender.
          <...>

I think Giammangiato is working to improve the bot in this way, as per my suggestion. But it requires an external scaper (Like Maggiordomo did) and apparently he was stuck on this.

This is quite cool despite being creepy AF. Makes it kinda tempting to send you merits at 3 AM, one at a time 5 minutes apart.

There's a feature in iOS to disable notifications at set times.
I use it, so you can send merits whenever you want.

Thank you all for the comments.
I am going to implement in the guide asap (Damn RL!)

That's a cool guide. I still have may Xiaomi MI band 2 and I'm so satisfied with it. I'm playing with it right now to test the notifications. If everything is correctly set up this should trigger a notification now, if you have Band 2 you won't be able to read the content, you just get a buzz :)
          @iasenko Let's see :)

          EDIT > It's working.

You haven't subscirbe for the mention notifications, only for the merit update.
You need to follow the second point of the OP.

Just to be clear, you get no notifications at all, or only on your apple watch?

EDIT: If you don't mind, can send me 1 merit to check the message? I'll send it back to you. This is for testing, not for exchanging merit  ;)

LOL ;D I felt it was not necessary to see the notification on the Apple watch, I was active on my PC and didn't have any notifications from the bot at the time. I'm pretty sure it's a bot bug, I don't know how but the delay is too slow for me to receive notification emails. If there was a way to speed it up, it would be better than email, but not now  ::)

You have to really like getting merit if you are getting watch notifications every time you receive merit.
LOL, seriously.  And I bet if merits were just a little bit easier to earn for lower-ranked members, they probably would go all-in for a thing like this.  As it stands, however, most of them would just be wasting their time and money waiting for notifications.  But on a serious note, merits are extremely important to any member who's here for bounties, sig campaigns, or who just wants to be a big swinging D on the forum--and I bet a lot of them do constantly check to see if they've earned any new merits.

I don't need merits to rank up anymore, but I still like earning them since it provides validation that I'm still making useful posts that others either like or agree with--but I don't want or need a smart watch to update me.  That would be going laughably overboard, but OP's scheme is amusing to say the least.

Yes, I am slightly obsessed with merits.
          You don't say :P

Am I the only one who's concerned if a large corporation wants to tell me I sleep better than 93% of the people? Or how my heart rate is doing during sex workouts? Especially as a Bitcoin user, you should really care more about privacy.

You can disable hearth and sleep monitoring.
You can use a trow-away mail to link your companion app.
The rest of your privacy is linked to your general choice about yopur terminal (which are fat off-topic to be discussed here, but I guess were carefully selected).
Giammangiato-bot poses no threats to your privacy, as far as I know. The bot is the only one to know the link between your tleegram handle and forum profile. I don't knwo how much of a relevant information is, as telegram handle can be changed easily.

          Big fillippone!

Without a doubt, it is an elegance to have that device, in addition to that it attracts attention, modern, with many features, it is not so expensive, anyone can ask what it is, how it works and they will surely want to enter the forum and learn more about Bitcoin and the technology.

They're just a gimmick. Tried the heartbeat test and this smart band thing always got it wrong (at least the cheap one).

That being said, notifications via e-mail is probably safer.

Absolutely correct and I second this view.
Actually being notified on a wristband allows you to be updated without taking out your (supposedly more expensive) smartphone.

As I said, the price point was a barrier for me.
This costs less than 10% of an Apple watch, with inferior performances, of course, bar battery time, where Apple Watch is beaten big time, and the related function of sleep tracking. (even if you don't sleep very much if you are really focused on the forum.
It is a big deal to invest in that kind of tech but when you already have that, using this would improve your performance of the watch, right? There are 3rd party applications for sleep tracking, so it's okay. Do you have bitcointalk addiction? (No sleep issue lol)

I was referring to the very poor battery life of the Apple Watch, that focres you to charge it at night, hindering any sleep tracking feature.

This is only an option to be able to see merit from various devices. Want to buy a smartband or not it's everyone's choice.

how to see merit on a smartband can also be applied to other devices such as on-screen dashboards in cars and other devices that support Bluetooth connections and have the option to display notifications for telegram applications and other apps.

You seem to have misunderstood my post, I said that it was "too much" I was not referring to the price of the smartband whatsoever, it is rather the concept, and now you are suggesting even "worse" options such as getting merit notifications on car's dashboard, for me the only use for these bots is to actually help me keep up with the different discussions I enroll in.

I am so in love with the forum, but I also have a real-life to live, when I turn off my PC/Phone I wouldn't want to be notified about anything related to the internet, the idea of having these notifications 24/7 for every single merit I receive on my wrist and car dashboard is annoying, but that is just me:).

With that said, I highly appreciate the efforts put by fillippone, sent him a smartband merit for the efforts.

          yes this is highly cool.

but as with mikeywith, when i turn away from the forum, or any online thing, i make sure NOTHING will get through. except maybe that heart transplant message or such.

online is one thing, nature is another. not that they are mutually exclusive.

and again this does rock! dont let my personal opinion (which is worth nothing as we know) influence you.

hmmm any way to collect a total and bring that up when the watch is online or that app is active again? that might be cool.. ie time to read up on what the gang is up to, must be a lot going on as 50 merits or @'s came through in the last 2 hours.

EDIT: perhaps a number based on a rolling average? like so many mentions or @s per arbitrary period get flagged and acted upon. so as to get rid of random fluff quotes that arent really pertinent and let you know something real is up.

As you can see from the above image, I am at 18% of battery having charged it last time 20 days ago. Pretty good considerting I have hearth monitor and sleep tracking activated and other few notification added.

This will allow the smartband to show notification from phones.
We can now subscribe to Notification Bot

          2. Subscribe to a notification Bot.

I was so used to @Piggy Bot, that when it suddenly failed, I realised how much eased using the forum.
A good notification bot is like freedom or good health: one of those underappreciated asset you don't care about until you suddenly lose them.

A nice candidate is from another italian guy:

[TelegramBot] Merit watcher and Mention Notification Bot (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5209107.msg53330085#msg53330085)

          How to join the Bot:

          • Open telegram chat t.me/Btctalk_meritbot (http://t.me/Btctalk_meritbot)
          • Type "/start"
          Code:
          /start
            https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blob4c5718c30552a674.png?1

            [/list]

            • Subscribe to the merit bot with your UID
            Code:
             /uid $$yourBitcointalkID$$

            https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobd2e98dbf11f4f85f.jpeg
            • Subscribe to the mention bot with your NICKNAME
            Code:
             /nick $$yourBitcointalkNICKNAME
            https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blob3afd0f84ad13ddbe.jpeg

The bot runs every minute. Every time you are mentioned in a post, a post of yours is quoted, or you receive a merit, a telegram notification will appear on the Telegram chat with the Bot.

Now the last task is to setup telegram to properly show only the relevant notifications (only the ones coming from the forum bot, of course).

            3. Configure the smartband to receive the right notifications from the phone

I don't know nothing about you, but I am in several Telegram channels with thousands of members.
Hence receiving a notification from every channel would be a mess, with constant notification nightmare and a really fast depleting of the battery.
So I decided to setup Telegram to cast notifications for this particular channel only.
            Go to
            Settings=>Notifications =>Telegram

            Toggle Allow Notifications: ON

Those following customisation are optional and deemed viable only for your Mobile UI
Choose your Notification Style for The main device

            https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobc8c26c43a6d8d10e.jpeg

Then Click to the last row
            Code:
             Telegram Notification Settings

to be taken to the Telegram Notification Menu.

Here, the relevant section is the first one, as the BOT is classified as a chat.
You have to disable all the notification except for the Bot's one.

            Here all
            https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobc3584a9a1d31ce6a.jpeghttps://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobb4d926cd4d031d13.jpeg

All the other sections (Group/Channel) must be disabled:

            https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobafca679ccaeff243.jpeghttps://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/bloba9d3470bf83ed1c4.jpeg

In case you want to prevent being notified during sleep hours you can activate a Do Not Disturb function in iOS.

            https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/16/blobbf6efe0eb1083fae.jpeg

You can read more about this function here (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204321).
With these setting notifications are disabled between 23:00- 7.00 when you can sleep concentrate more on the forum without being disturbed by notifications.

            The result is the following:

            FILLIPPONE
            VB1001
MORE TO COME...(send me your Picture!)

Effective idea and brilliant contribution to make this forum more hitech. The whole procedure is very easy to understand I believe it may be very helpful for the forum members especially for those who spend lot of time to share positive thoughts here in the forum.

Very nice suggestion!  I was thinking of getting the new Galaxy Smartwatch, but these bands make so much more sense - lighter, less power drain and less expensive than a watch.  With the new BlueTooth, people should look into separating duplicate features on their phone/smartwatches.

I ordered one - delivery in August lol.

To me, the game changer was the notifying feature.
Being notified of only important things on my watch (merits, obv), I found myself way less fiddling with my phone all the time, that helped me concentrating on important things (writing good posts, obv).

I don’t know where you live, but where I live Amazon delivers it on Monday.  Might be a stupid thing to check there? (I didn’t include amazon link as it sounded like a promotion of the shop and being region-dependent).

            I just love this forum!
I am pretty new but this feature sounds awesome and the DIY Directions are spot on.
The MI Watches are pretty awesome (I had one at the time they didnt have the screen).

I was looking for a way to see replies to my posts since I didnt want them to go unanswered and well I was looking for a smartwatch along the way.

Perfect for me to read this!

Will be buying myself one now and implementing this feature.

Thanks for the detailed instructions, very much appreciated!

Ah thats a nice idea to get bitcointalk on your wrist now and be with you everywhere.
I hope my friends won't call me nerdy whenever I will be keeping an eye on my wrist band just to check if Im having any merits thrown my way or not.
May be this is good one for those who are all into this stuff 24x7 of their lives!  :D

Anyways, I am in my pharma gown for the 6-7 hectic hours everyday, cant even get my phone inside so its not for me. Rather I would just come to my lappy and check them out.

But for others its useful. May be you can also add a code which will notify about the last reply on your thread too. Lets say that can get your attention to an interesting comment and get engaged with it sooner.

No significance of this addition as such I believe but if you are anyway having it for merits then why not for comments as well.

But until now, I still haven't had the chance to take any photos of this bot's notification  ::) It is absurd, I often get merit at times when I am not available to take pictures  ::) I want a picture to show off here but it's hard  :P

Little bit of off-topic, but here is question, how long it last the battery of this Mi band 4? My old one Mi-band 2 is still working great, checked it now, last charged was 8 days ago and it's on 76% still. This is for 4-5 years old band.

On topic the notifications on the Mi-band 2 are working perfictly :)

Really depends on the amount of notification you get, but I usually squeeze 20 days out of it.

            Hey!
If you are wearing the merit notification smartband, you definetly have to post a picture!

Ahah it is definitely the worst picture!!

Are you sure you have to catch notifications on the fly?
I don’t know how the 2 works, but in the 3 I can scroll to the notification menu and tapping on it I can “replay” the last notification... so it is pretty useful to take picture without staying hours staring at your wrists! ;)
We are having fun with this think after all...

EDIT: Wrist added to the gallery!

MB2 is a bit crippled, you get only telegram icon as notification. In addition with the last firmware update the screen brightness was reduced too much so you barely see anything. I'm using it only when I'm out working in the garden or do something to the house, basically for dirty work.
I can take a pic of my Huawei Watch if you want that will be a bit better, but since you started the thread as for a smartband notifications I though I may use my old band :P

Nice, don't worry, you are a legit contender in the hairest wrist on BitcoinTalk!

Anyway, news is MI Band 5 is coming. Time for an upgrade!

Update: May 15, 2020 (10:30 AM ET): The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 could be about to launch soon. As spotted by Indiashopps, the Taiwan National Communication Commission (NCC) just certified a Xiaomi device with model number XMSH10HM. The model number of the newly certified device is similar to that of the Mi Band 4 which comes bearing model number XMSH07HM. This indicates that XMSH10HM could indeed be the Mi Band 5.

Given that the Mi Band 4 was released in June last year, the Mi Band 5 could also drop around the same time. In that case, it’s certification right now makes all the sense in the world.

Besides the possible Mi Band 5 listing, Indiashopp also reports that it spotted a wearable called Mi Smart Band 4C on the website of Indonesia’s telecom authority. This product has the same model number as the Redmi Band which was recently launched in China. Therefore, it’s possible that Xiaomi is prepping to launch the Redmi Band as the Mi Band 4C globally.

Could both the Mi Band and Mi Band 4C launch simultaneously? We’re not sure yet, but we’ll keep you posted as and when we know more.

I added in the thread the instruction to use a new Bot available here on the forum:

[TELEGRAM] Yet Another BitcoinTalk Notification BOT (merits, mentions, topics,+) (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.0)

@TryNinja is doing a great work with his bot it already has a smooth interface but it's  constantly improving and adding functions (my guide on how to configure it is a little bit redundant actually).

You can find instructions to configure his Bot for our purpouses at the end of the OP:  TryNinja Bot specific instructions (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5229697.0#post_TryNinjabot)

I found it by chance, while you see the notification, click at the bottom of the screen and the notification stays longer, so you can read the content or take a photo more calmly if you want.

I have been using this bot for a long time, it always works correctly, but lately, I rarely get more notifications even though I get quoted a lot in other topics. I go back to a few topics, I see that there are many topics that my post has been quoted, but I only get 1 or 2 notifications for that every day. I think it has been slowed down. Or its mechanism of action changed, I'm not sure, but it was what I felt. I hope someone can fix it  :D

Yes, I have been observing a few malfunctioning too lately.
I think the best thing to do is letting giammangiato know about your problem writing in the bot thread I linked.
That’s the best place to discuss those issues rather than here.
I linked also another option by the way. You can give it a try too.

I have been using since a few days,  look and feel is almost the same as the old model, screen is bigger, but it really it is a best fit of the previous form factor (lesser bezels). It has almost hte same feature, plus a few nice attition, but not a revolution, only a step evolution.

I can summarise a few finding for the moment:

            PRO
            • More precise sensors
            • Much more easy charging
            • Remote camera shutter

            CONS
            • Battery life seems to be reduced due to the much more precise sensors
            • Extra cost

For our purpouse the two versions work absolutely at the same manner: I cannot recommend upgrading only for this and the preference is due only to the extra cost for the few feature it offers.
I think it is fair to let the choice to individual preferences.

After a few months of usage I can say I am satisfied with the upgrade: the display of the MI5 is way better than the old one, the sensors are more precise and the overall feeling is better.
Are those improvement worth the extra bucks? My tentative answer is yes.
Also, a long overdue (hairy wrist picture) picture.

Yes, there is a merit related madness slowly spreading over the forum.
In addition to that, you must know that the thing also gives an haptic feedback when the notification fires.
So when you send a merit, I physically can feel a vibration on my body wrist...

Before anyone start doubting I wear my smart and on my wrist instead of other anatomical parts, I want to reassure you the vibration is not THAT powerful.

The vibration is not audible to anyone even standing by. Of course ai immediately check what’s happening but that’s another part of the story!

Regarding the Mi-Band 6, I am tempted for the bigger screen.
Sometimes I struggle with the mention notification on such a small screen as I can't see the whole message.

Looks like no one wants to use Apple products here, namely the Apple Watch. It seems quite expensive and inconvenient to not be able to connect to devices other than Apple, is that why it is not loved here? I am using an Apple Watch series3 that I bought many years ago. Merit announcements have always kept me excited. My friends also told me that they wanted their Mi 5 to have a bigger screen when compared to me. Don't know if Xiaomi plan to fix it? I mean increase its size  :D

Just want to update a bit, lately, the bot is not working really well. My post have been quoted many times, but only a few of them have been informed and showed. So I missed other people's posts. I don't know if the bot developers are still active? I forgot to link to their post  ;D

Which bot are you using? Majordomo is offline, @giammangiato is very good, but I think it is not constantly mantained.
You should consider switching to @tryninja bot, whic is by far the best one I ever used.

Oh boy!! I am the only one different in the hairy wrist notification party. I've got a circular shaped smartwatch  :D

This is actually from my dad's unused Amazfit Pace smartband that I used to set-up in order to get that notification from TryNinja's bot. Fortunately, though, now is the only time I got the snapshot for the merit/mentioned notification. The only downside of using this amazfit pace is that it is not supported by an AMOLED screen which makes it looks dim especially during daylight.

You'll just need to use zepp by huami to be able to customize the setting of the smart swatch

LoL, admittedly, it was hard for me to save the picture once I received the notification. As a fate, every time I get a notification, I have to be doing something that I can't get my hands free to take a pictures  ::)

I used Tryninja's bot as your suggestion, and great, I caught this moment when I was free. No latency in bot announcements, it's really cool, it's different from all the other bots  :-*

I've just got Mi Band 6 less than a week ago. I like it, but I guess that I'm missing something in the settings.

The messages from the Telegram bot come to my band twice.
WhatsApp messages are, on the other hand, not doubled.
            Any idea why's that?

            PS. Thanks for the tutorial!

            Really Strange.
Are you using an iPhone or an Android paired with this band? It never happened to me with both Mi Band4 and 5.
Try deselecting the  notifications and turn those back on, probably the phone is sending twice to the band because two channels are activated.

Anyway, I am mumbling about upgrading to the Mi6, just because... you know.. this thread!

I can't advise on that, I usually buy stuff when I need it or the old breaks, not because it's new (or new version) :D

I have Android phone, an older Redmi, so the compatibility should be great (I hoped). Just it's Android 8.1
I've stopped the notifications for Telegram and one came onto phone and not band - good.
I've started the notifications again on the band and .. they're get doubled again.

Oh well, if anybody finds out why, please write and add my name so I get notified (twice!).

I am stating the obvious here but: did you updated the miBand firmware to the last version? You can do that trough the accompanying app.
I couldn't find anything on Google about this, apart from suggestion of installing shady apps, or,  updating the firmware (something you should do, anyway).

As soon as the companion app got installed and the band got paired, the update has started. I don't even remember if I had to approve/acknowledge/click anything for that :D
Just I don't remember which companion app did this because I've installed Xiaomi Wear, then Mi Fit, then Xiaomi Wear again.
So I think I have the last. I have V1.0.0.34_android160

            An interesting update:
            * a post of mine was removed because an user got nuked -> 2 notifications
            * your post where you quoted me -> 1 notification (!?)
Obviously, both are after the stop/start of notifications.

I don't think that's the bot, since in the actual Telegram I get the information/text only once.

Update after 32 days of use:

            Notifications:
            * The duplicate notifications for Bitcointalk/Telegram no longer happen that often, especially after the last update of Xiaomi Wear app
            * More annoying "duplication" of notifications happen with the e-mails (they keep coming until I remove the notification from the phone)
            * All in all, it looks to be a bunch of bugs in Xiaomi Wear app, not with the bot or the other apps

            Overall use:
            * I like its faces and colors, you can play with them, but still the default few ones are easier to read (+)
            * The transfer of data between the smart band and wear app is slooooow and only happens if you open the app (look into it). (-)
            * Continuous hearth rate check is interesting to have, but unfortunately blood pressure check is missing.
            * The battery lasts some 6 days, but I usually charge after kinda 5 days already

From a band 3 I've seen, the step forward is clearly noticeable, but I cannot tell that it's <so> big... It's just a smart band after all  :D

PS. SPO2 is "on demand" and I've used it some 5 times all together. Didn't look too accurate either...

            Thank you for the update.
I can confirm the data transfers from and above all to the smart band are painfully slow.
I didn’t experience issues with the double notifications, or any major issue with the associated app. Hence I find puzzling you actually seeing a worsening situation. Maybe this things, born to be simple and cheap, are becoming too complicated and cumbersome…

If this doesn't happen to you, then it may be an incompatibility between the bracelet and my phone which is 3 years old, although also Xiaomi.
And maybe I wasn't clear enough; it's not worse than one month ago, it's better, excepting basically only the e-mails which I may exclude from the band's notifications.

Unless I am misunderstanding your point Silver80, we are risking off-topicness.. .which could result in our posts to get reported and or deleted if we go on too much about this kind of a topic in this thread..

Just as a pointer, my understanding is that the expression #nohomo (when used in the forum) is meant to be a kind of joke that kind of disclaims when member of the same sex (guys presumably - and even though we might not even know on the interwebs but just presume every member is a guy even when there could be 25% or more gals participating in the forum?  I am not sure.. just throwing it out there.) are showing too much potential liking for each other to suggest that their liking is not meant to be sexual in nature.. but at the same time, the expression sometimes gets used in other contexts too (maybe too much as well?).. just to maybe send a kind of joking message too.. like lol or jk...

So as far a disparaging or cultural ramifications or any of those kinds of potential implications, we might not want to get into that kind of a discussion here, but either take it to PM, if you want or to another thread that is about that topic (perhaps in the political section?), even though I tend to hang out in the forum for mostly bitcoin related topics rather than anything too much political or social justice in nature, even if those topics might come up from time to time in some of the threads, especially in the WO thread.

This notification bot system is very nice because most time you might not use your phone when charging it. You only use the Smartband to know the incoming merits . But the Smartband might not work in all the localities because some places might be out network coverage or weak network connection. And also you can not use it to reply comments and type post. But can only be used to observe the  inflow merits. These are some of the Disadvantages of the notification device. It is a such potable device that can be used to save time and Events.

The wristband is not only to observe Merits but also for decent dressing and wrist fitted. I really appreciate for your well riched Information to help humanity to grow in knowledge and also giving the awareness to the ignorance. When one has not given information he or she will be deformed. So information is life. Now you have given to people.

Those wristbands are not standalone devices but are meant to be connected to mobile via blue tooth. So you are correct they are prone to network issues when coverage is missing, but that would happen anyway. Also correct, they aren't meant to be used to reply to messages.

I just realized this thread, :D but I've seen reviews about the use of Smartband on youtube, what are the advantages, it looks very interesting, of course as an added value it can notify merit and mention our account, I need to try it and have seen it in several online market stores the price is affordable so I need to try it to do this.

Maybe after I buy and subscribe to the guide bot above I will return to this thread to give my opinion about using Smartband as my main is merit notification and mentions. :D

Don’t forget the most important part: the submission to the hairy writs collection!

Actually i never come across any of these before but base on what i can see here its worth giving a try, the whole system has been developed to make it easier in getting notified even without being with the mobile phone anywhere and anytime, i think it's also a water resistant band, although the one I've seen people using in my locality here is the smart watch which also give notification on social media but i see this smart band more effective especially when dealing with bitcointalk forum like this in which you can't afford to miss out any vital information or update.

I thought someone reposted the same thread but different author and of course that includes the hairy collection as what I call it when I take a glimpse of the title. There are some smartband doesn't have telegram so I wasn't able to do this guide on how to receive notification about hairy collection I mean the notification when someone mentioned you or when you receive a merit but my smartband does receive facebook notifs.

Even more, you can "talk" with the bot.
I use now and then /menu for various things (like ignoring users).

The full list of commands is:

            Commands:
/start - to start the bot or unstuck it if anything happens.
/menu - shows the cool menu.
            /alt X - set an alternative username.
/setMerit X - corrects your cached merit count.

Maybe you go to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.0 and read more, maybe I've missed something.
Also: make sure it works first on your Telegram (on your phone), seeing the notifications on the smartband is a second step.

Did you go to /menu and checked whether mentions, merits and deleted posts are all enabled?
If they are, next step would be to ask in the bot's topic, maybe your non-standard username causes problems.

How and where can I do that please

As I wrote in my first answer to you (I mean here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5229697.msg60687141#msg60687141)), you can go here for more info: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.0
I guess that you didn't, since you would have noticed that it starts with

The BitcoinTalk SuperNotifier "V2" is now out!

And indeed, that topic (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.0) is the topic made by the bot creator (TryNinja) to announce the bot and to get contacted in case something is strange/wrong.
So my advise is to go and tell clearly (even better than you did here, if possible) your problem in this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5248878.new#new).

Your special username with "(-)" isn't supported for the regex detection. I'll see what I can do to fix it.

You weren't reading this if you weren't basically agreeing on this.
So why frantically refresh your merit page and hit the "Show new replies to your post" link when you can be notified via haptic feedback and immediately revert to the forum in the rare occurrence of real life interfering with logged in time?

I jumped into this thread two days ago while doing my normal research to find out about and learn from things I was unaware of.
I tried it out using my Telegram account with the steps-to-steps drop by @fillippone. It works perfectly well for me, and now I am being saved the stress of searching and going through all threads, for which I have to drop a comment to know if I am being mentioned or not.
It's really helpful just by using Telegram alone, having my notifications set to always on for the bot, and having my phone by my side at all times.

            Your welcome.

Bitcointalk still uses SMF 1.1.19 © 2006-2009. So it's understandable that there are some bugs, such as when the preview is OK, but after posting, it doesn't match the preview. So, you must use a trick, for example, by adding specific code like the example above (by adding a simple empty column).

I just tried to create a thread (which contains a quote from your post) on Simple Machines Community Forum (currently using SMF 2.1.4 © 2023):
https://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=586841.0 using the original code without any additional code.

Just to update you on a small project for this thread.
@giammangiato bot is not working anymore, and our fellow user has no plan to put it back in operation.
I am going to delete that part of the post then in the next few days.
Wondering if the various translation will adopt this modification.
