Saying, 'this user is currently ignored'.

Ignoring users at a time does not mean that we will ignore them forever, we may continue to follow them in the future. However, if we ignore a user for too long, we can forget about that. So I think its existence is to remind us that we've been ignored this user, we can change our mind the moment we see them. I think it is like a reminder  :D We can choose to continue to ignore or unignore to see their posts

it is most probably another limitation with the current forum software that you can't just remove posts and topics created by a user ignored by the viewer. so the best "workaround" would be to shrink it like that with a message saying it ignored by you and an option to show it right then and there. which is a good feature by the way.

The fact that users aren't completely ignored, for me, that is because the forum is providing a chance for you to still identify that there is an existing post from that person. And whenever you wanted to see the comment or post, you have the option to do it by seeing the displayed contents regarding the comment.

But we should also consider the fact that our forum's capabilities are limited based from the other comments provided by other users.

My idea if ever the admins will change the system about hiding comments, maybe we could completely ignore the entire post, then have a separate page that will display the posts that we hid.

This would be a great option. I have plenty of people ignored on social media...I'm not missing anything, ever. My guess...I'm sure it's possible, but I'm also guessing only Theymos and maybe one or two others code here..and that's probably a tall task to ask, and low on their list of what's needed atm.

I think you can do this via usersripts, as it can hide user posts exactly as it happens when boards are ignored.
Someone coded it so If you make a search, you will find it. You just need to search for the topic.
I'm using my phone will update it later

There is a Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey script here which will do this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1545254.msg15749798#msg15749798
I'm not sure if this is the script hugeblack was referring to. It should be possible to expand it to remove the subject and timestamp as well.

I would agree that I don't think this is desirable, however. Ignoring a user because they are a spammer doesn't mean they will always be a spammer. If we endlessly ignore individual users, then we never give them the opportunity to change their ways and contribute positively to the forum. If you are ignoring someone who isn't a spammer because you don't like their posts or disagree with their opinions, then how do you know you will disagree with all their opinions on every topic? They may very well make a post you find worthwhile in another thread.

Saying, 'this user is currently ignored'.

From time to time, the forum is somehow upgrading as the managements cleans the old and unnecessary posts that happened in the forum. And ignoring users do somehow refresh in either months or days. There are also posts that are ignored but not the users, and it is the fact a feature of the forum. But then again, what is your reason to ignore a user? This is not a social media that you can always see the comment of the user. You can do ignore them by simply not giving an attention to them. It's just a basic self-explanatory actions that doesn't require a change to the forum or a thread to be talked about.

I do prefer this implementation compared to the tampermonkey alternative though, because depending on the thread subject matter you could potentially determine whether this user may have actually contributed to the discussion. Usually, trolls or users which like to spread nonsense haven't always got no input at all. For example, you might start ignoring a user because they are pushing their narrative on an altcoin, so any thread discussing the specifics pros, and cons of Bitcoin would likely get trashed by this user. However, if its something related to the forum, then they might actually be well up on how things go, and provide useful insight. Therefore, having this "user is ignored" gives you a reminder that this user is ignored, and if you wanted to you could temporarily take them off ignore to read their response.
